I’d just like to say I’m recently getting into booktube ( I did not know this wonderland existed) and you are by far my favorite booktuber 💜
I would also suggest: Hailey in Bookland, jessethereader, and readbyzoe.
Dixie Reads Books it’s like you read my mind I watch all those booktubers
Emmmasbooks is one of my favorites too!
@@dlynnemgirl8870 Merphy Napier is a good one too
me too:)
i don't even read contemporary YA and i still watched this vid cuz ILY ❤️
readwithcindy I love you toooo 💓
Yey! Thanks for this Hannah! *adds books to cart*
Summer time is contemporary time ❤️☀️
The fact that this video is 20 minutes long warms my heart 😍
All the books to get lost into💛
you always come off as so genuine and passionate in your videos which I really appreciate. My absolute, absolute favorite contemporary of all time has to be Radio Silence by Alice Oseman, it's a beautiful quiet story about friendship, struggling with your future, allowing yourself to be uncertain, and making your own decisions and mistakes. I'm sure you would love it!
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" is definitely for you if you liked "To All The Boys I've Loved Before", Jenny Han is such a genius !!!
Who do you like more Jere or Conrad
THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END BY ADAM SILVERA IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOKS YOU HAVE TO READ IT
Kay Ravioli YES
YES AND IT'S GOING TO BE A SHOW NOW CAN YOU BELIEVE IT
i just bought it !
Omg! Yes❤
😭😭😭 HONESTLYYYY
This video is a blessing. I have been in YA contemporary mood lately and you just added so many books on my reading list. Much Love!!! ❤️❤️
Rishika Dembani yayyy!
I read the To All The Boys series because of you! So good 😊
Kahlia Flores IKR
I bought "Eliza and her monsters" after your recommendation. I loved it soo much! As a person, who writes, I found so many inspiring quotes 💕💕💕
hi hannah this is a bit off topic BUT first of all you’re the first booktuber i ever watched and still remain my favorite 💓 part of that probably has to do that our reading tastes are practically same altough (until literally a few days ago i thought) minus the contemporary on my side bc i really just read fantasy, sf or hf. that being said - until a few days ago - when i after watching your video where you mentioned you recently fell in love with the ‚all the boys i’ve loved before‘ books watched the trailer 2 days ago and fell in love. i immediately started listening to book 1 on audio, finished it on the same day and was BLOWN AWAY. it really spoke to me and made me emotional besides being a fun story. i started book 2 that day and finished it yesterday and - well of course - started book 3 and at this very moment i’m a little over halfway through. these books already changed my life in a way and once again because of YOU. i’ve discovered so many wonderful books through your recommendations (most recent one ‚the night circus‘ and omg LOOOOVE) and i’m truly thankful. 🧡 you bring me so much joy with your videos and your recommendations never failed me. so now i’m going to watch this video and probably start getting into contemporary which is until now so out of character for me hahaha. so thank you 🧡🧡🧡
also omg i love your shirt hahaha
I just bought To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before because of you!
Bente Boffin this makes my heart happy 💗
I definitely recommend Radio Silence if you are looking for a more emotional contemporary with a wonderful friendship dynamic.
I read "Turtles All The Way Down" and I love it so much. The reason are because I'm have too OCD, like Aza, and i have too anxiety, so i'm felt so identify with her.
P.S.: I love the video, you're the best.
I have read Dear Martin and it was a phenomenal read. I have also read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Tyler Johnson was Here by Jay Coles and every single one of these books made me cry due to the fact that there is still no equality in this world and I feel as an African American woman we as a people should stand up and use the voice that we have in order to stop police brutality, police shootings, and so much more. I just feel that this world has the potential of being amazing :)
I literally just bought The Poet X two days ago and now I feel more motivated to read it! Love your channel xx
The Poet X was such a touching story. I appreciate the Afro-Latino representation and how it handles the issues of religion within the Latino community.
I’ve been dying to read Dear Martin after reading The Hate U Give because that was such a good book that I fell in love with and I feel like I’m going to fall in love with Dear Martin because I heard it’s almost the same
I just finished reading Dear Martin and it's my favorite book of all time. I've never cried while reading. I just wanted to know what you thought about it?
No goddamn lie....i was wishing for this video YESTERDAY hannah ?? seer.

A Clockwork Reader legend
Too afraid to read History Is All You Left Me after reading They Both Die At The End. Still crying inside.
sheisuchalauren it is so good! definite content warnings for homophobia, suicidal thoughts, and depression, but it was exceptionally written. totally worth the tears.
I do love Adam Silvera's writing style and the emotion that went into They Both Die At The End so when I need a cry, I'll give it a go!
I've only read They Both Die At The End but yes, I've heard they are all tear fests
i enjoyed history is all you left me more than they both die at the end i recommend it so so much but i started crying on like page 50 and didnt stop for the rest of the book
I felt like I was running out of good books to read, but then, out of nowhere your channel pops up in my recommendations and I’m so inspired omg, I’ve added so many new books to my reading lists, thanks 😊
i’ve finally gotten out of my 2 year reading slump, so stumbling upon this video is a LIFESAVER. i have added almost all of them to my 2021 read list so thank you !!
I'm currently reading The Astonishing Color of After and the writing is so beautiful!
your video’s always make me so calm when i’m stressed or distracted. it feels so warm and cozy and this is just why i love books and reading. love from amsterdam xoxo
The astoniching color of after was fantastic . I read Eliza and her monsters this year and I agree! It's the best contemporary book ever. I related so much with Eliza.
Also loved The Boys I've Loved Before! Loved how much space the sisters got and how well thought-out the characters were, even the small ones.
Hi Hannah, I just finished reading The Astonishing Color of After. And I'm just blown away. It was so beautiful and it left me utterly speechless. I loved it just so, so much. Thank you for the wonderful recommendation :)
Why am I sooooo in love with To All The Boys I've Loved Before??!!
I love it. I love it. I just love it.
i've never felt so represented with your description (and your emotional journey) on to all the boys i've loved before! i had the same thoughts before and after i've read it! will totally read your other fave contemporary reads because of this, thank you hannah!
I think you should definitely check out Jenny Han’s Summer trilogy “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “It’s Not Summer Without You,” and “We’ll Always Have Summer.” I absolutely adore these stories and I’ve love to re read it over and over again. Also for a darker tone from Jenny, I’d also suggest the Burn For Burn trilogy.
great author! but never read that trilogy. ill check it out
yesss literally dropped my math textbook as soon as i saw this video! Contemp books are some of my absolute favourite and i'm so gladddd you are liking contemporary books more now.
Wintergirls is a long time favorite of mine. As soon as you held it up I got so excited because nobody ever talks about it! I read it for the first time about 5 years ago, and since then I have read it at least 7/8 more times because it is just that good. Glad to see that others really enjoy it as well. x
I can’t believe you just finished to all the boys I’ve loved before !!!! That series is amazing 😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️. I’ve read that entire series at least 3 times !!! This book is everything you want from a contemporary book and more !!! It got friendships, family, romance and so much more !!! 😭😭😭 ahhh I just love this book . Lara jean is just so relatable. She is just so funny and awkward. 😂🤭
Your profile picture ❤❤❤
The cover The Astonishing Color of After is so beautiful! It sounds like an amazing read that I should get to it soon.
You're so beautiful ❤ Love your videos. I've had so many of these on my list! History is All You Left Me, Eliza and Her Monsters, and To All the Boys I've Loved Before were soooooo good in completely different ways ❤
I love fantasy but contemporary has this grounded sense that helps me out of slumps and often makes me cry.
I always get so excited when you post!
Every time you talk about _The Astonishing Colour of After_ I'm fiercely reminded of _We are the Ants_ by Shaun David Hutchinson, which is one of my favourite books of all time. It's like the sci-fi equivalent of magical realism and it's about this boy called Henry whose boyfriend committed suicide, and Henry is depressed. And Henry gets abducted by aliens and told the world is going to end in 144 days unless he presses a button to stop it happening. But Henry isn't sure he wants to press the button. It deals with suicide and depression in an incredibly raw and real way, but, much like you say for _The Astonishing Colour of After_ , it has an incredibly hopeful overtone. Please read it, it's so great.
Some other favourites include Release by Patrick Ness (again, magical realism) and I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson.
Karkat Vantas OMG YES! I love that book so much😭💕
Love we are the ants so much!
literally dropped everything when i got this notif lol
Turtles, Eliza and Her Monsters, and The Poet X are definitely on my favorites list as well. They were just all so beautifully written in their own ways.
I am in the mood for contemporary and I know I can always count on good recs from you!!! Thank you.
I love To All The Boys I've Loved! I agree it makes you so happy you cant help but to love Laura Jean. The whole series is just adorable and I couldn't help to reminisce about high school and high school love.... I love those books
I first started watching your videos for book inspiration and the more videos I watch the more I relate to you. I also think you have a wonderful taste in books. I have read many of the ones you recommend and love them! So thank you for making your videos🤗
I TOTALLY agree on turtles all the way down 😍😍😍 it is my favorit book and you have to read holding up the universe and all the bright places they are just😍😍
I loved To All the Boys I've Loved Before! I underestimated it at first, but was blown away once I started reading it. I loved the relationship she has with her sisters. I'm excited for the Netflix movie!
Thxs so much for making this video I will definitely be reading the astonishing colour of after and turtles all the way down.
I agree with everything you said about Wintergirls. I just read it a few weeks ago and I was blown away!
I met Laurie Halse Anderson a few years ago at a writing festival in New Zealand and I can say she is such a sweet and funny lady. At the time I was going through my OCD and after her talk about Wintergirls and her other books I went and talked to her. She listened to me about my own issues and I still can't BELIEVE I haven't picked up any of her books yet. I guess now is the perfect time since that aspect of my life is over.
Have just finished reading a pile of YA contemporary and needed new ones to read!! Thank you for uploading this!xx
Oh my God I just finished reading the To All The Boys I've Loved Before series and was looking for more contemporary books to read so this video came at the perfect time. I'm glad you liked the book too.
I just started To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before because of you and I’m already addicted!
The Poet X is next on my TBR! Knowing it's written in verse makes me even more excited to read it. If you're looking for more books in verse, check out most of Ellen Hopkin's books! They're older, and collectively have every content warning I can think of, but I still love them.
I don't really read too many YA contemporaries, but I recently read Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman and it was fantastic. It was hard to read at times because of the subject matter, but it was a very good book.
I read Eliza and Her Monsters because of you and it's one of my all time favourites now. Thank you for that!!
I am not really a YA Contemporary books kinda person, but looking at those recs, I am diving into few, especially, The Astonishing Color of After 💛
My god!! I looove you and your videos, you inspire me soo much!! Love you girl 💛💛
I had no knowledge or expectations going into The Poet X and was completely floored by it. I ate it up in a day!
Also, even i read to all the boys i have loved before series recently! And God knows i love it so much!!! 😍😍❤️
I knew you were going to talk about most of those books !! It just prooves that I loove you so much, you are such a blessing ❤️❤️
I just read to all the boys I've loved before and didn't think that I'd like it either. Romance isn't my thing, but I am IN LOVE with this story.
Hannah, I don't know you, but I think that you are so beautiful, both inside and out. Whatching your videos really makes me happy! Thank you so much for the effort you put into them and for your enthusiasm, I know that they help so many people read more and share your passion for books!
xxx♡
to all the boys & eliza and her monsters are the best contemporarys i've ever read. i love that you liked them just as much as i did! 💕
I heard The astonishing color of after's audiobook and it became one of my favs too. I had so many feelings reading it... Completely loved it! Thanks for recommending it!!
I feel the exact same about To All The Boys I've Loved Before. I love that book SO MUCH
Since you said you were into deeper contemporary books, I highly recommend Hatelist by Jennifer Brown. It’s so good and involves the topic of school shootings and the aftermath of someone related to the shooter. It’s amazing and discusses lost, hope for a better future, and forgiveness. I definitely recommend giving it a try.
i’m on the last book of the “to all the boys i’ve loved before” trilogy and i’m like so excited to see the movie!
Gabby Mortellaro. *hands you a box of tissue* Good luck stranger.
i’m 16 and turtles all the way down is the book that got me into reading bc i completely fell in love with it
Your bookcase is my dream room ♥️
If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend Ready To Fall by Marcella Pixley. It’s heartbreaking and funny and inspiring. I loved it!
Your suggestions are always spot on! For anyone who loves some of these books, I recommend Because You'll Never Meet Me by Leah Thomas and the sequel Nowhere Near You. The relationships between characters are absolutely fantastic, and they've become two of my all-time favorites, even as someone who is lukewarm about most comtempories.
I'm currently reading To All The Boys I've Loved Before and I didn't expect to love it so much!!! 💕 I didn't bother to pick up the book before because it seemed really cheesy but I was really curious when I saw the trailer for the film adaptation and now I don't regret reading it. Anyway, this was a great video and btw I love your book faves/review videos. 💖✨
i fell in love with the To All The Boys I've Loved Before movie and then moved on. but your endorsement of the book just gave me the incentive to power thru all the three books this past week. i loved them. thanks for pushing me to read them.
Turtles all the way down!!! U mentioned it and i took it off my shelf to read it again right now. Its just so good.😍❤❤
You pretty much name-dropped most of my favorite contermporary books, especially Fangirl which I love and Eliza and her monsters which definitely was like Fangirl 2.0.
Along with those 2, I also love:
Elenaor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. Love so much. Highly recommend.
Let's Talk About Love by Claire Kann which is really underrated
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe thanks to you
Monday's Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson. So heartbreaking but so damn good
When Dimple Met Rishi. That book was too damn cute
Create&Dream Eleanor and Park was so good!
I adored Monday's Not Coming! People don't talk about it enough. It was such a gorgeous book.
YES LOVE WINTERGIRLS
Everything is just perfect with your videos. The books are incredibly interesting and you are such an amazing person❤️
I read *Foolish Hearts* by Emma Mills recently and this book took me by surprise so much! I loved it and I want more people to read it so I can talk with people about it. It's so so so good!
We Are The Ants or At The Edge Of The Universe, both by Shaun David Hutchinson, are two of my all-time favourite books. They're contemporary novels with sci fi elements to them and they both include diverse LGBT+ characters and they're just beautifully written novels. I cannot even express how much I loved them. We Are The Ants pulled me out of a 2 year reading slump, and stuck with me so much that I had a quote from the novel tattoo'd on myself.
I actually JUST picked up Love and Other Carnivorous Plants, I know that you won’t lead me astray so I’m even more excited to read it now that you’ve praised it!
I don't really read that much contemporary books but I can really recommend "Sweet Bean Paste" by Durian Sukegawa. This story is very different, but just beautiful and hopeful but also heartbreaking and sad. The friendship in this books is really well written and it's just a wonderful book about the meaning of life, I would say. There is also a very good movie to the book btw :D Anyways, you added a lot of books to my wishlst with this video :D
I love your videos! You helped me realize it is actually cool to be nerdy!⭐️⭐️📚📚
OMG!!!
I was right!you’re Iranian
You know the first time I watched one of your videos I was like wow she’s giving me so much Persian vibes like she’s got the purity and peace of a young Ariai girl 💁🏻♀️🇮🇷
I’m so glad that we have the same nationality!like you’re one of my favorite booktubers❤️
I've personally never read any YA contemporary, but these recommendations sound great! Thanks for sharing your favs!
I love love love To All The Boys I've Loved Before!! I can't wait for the movie so freaking excited!!
I fell in love with The Poet X! Picked it up because of this video and the praises you heaped upon it! It’s one of my all time faves now! Continue to spread the book love!
Lots of love,
From India ❤️
I’ve been switching back and forth between this video and goodreads adding books to my wish list :)
I remember seeing Love and Other Carnivorous Plants in Barnes & Noble and was captivated by the cover! I'll read it and film a video just for you :D
I read History Is All You Left Me a few months ago and I 100% agree! It was so heartbreaking and I shed a lot of tears. It was so worth it though.
Wintergirls is such a good read, probably my favorite Anderson book besides Speak. Hadn't heard of Down & Across but sounds interesting & added to the TBR. Countless by Karen Gregory & Paperweight by Meg Haston are other great contemps featuring ED issues. Paper Butterflies by Lisa Heathfield & The Last To Let Go by Amber Smith are also fantastic reads.
omg so many book recs!! i've only read three books on this list so i'm excited to get to the rest you mentioned. but like TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN !!!!!
I’m obsessed with your eye shadow 😍🙌🏻
I love down and across too! I didn’t know anyone else like it too!
Sydnee McConnell loved down and across one of the best books I read this year
I LOVE the astonishing color of after!! I feel the same way you do! When I started it from like the 4th chapter I knew it was going to be a new favorite!! I just read The Poet X it was so beautiful! And I’m so glad you mentioned it! You should pick up Ellen Hopkins if you want some more verse books!! ☺️
Love that copy of History Is All You Left Me! Reading a book at the right time, to me is what makes reading worth everything! We love when the gods choose our TBR!! 😂😂
Side note: I love your shirt! 😉💜
I love Ellen Hopkins books!
This video came just at the right time for me!! I was looking for some new books to read so thank you! ❤️❤️
Can’t wait to purchase and read down and across, it sounds so great🤗😁.
I love this video!! Such good recommendations:)) why does booktube give me motivation to read?? Ahh can’t wait to start reading
Your bookshelf is actual goals. ♥️
FINALLY got around to watching this video. I absolutely LOVE so many of the books in this video The Astonishing Colour of After really hit home for me and I really connected to in such a deep and personal way. I absolutely loved it. And I absolutely LOVE Adam Silvera. He’s one of my all time favourite authors and all his books were 5 star reads. I would actually say History is my least favourite, though it’s still exceptional. They Both Die at the End is one of my favourite books of all time. I absolutely adored it and I really really hope you love it just as much!!! As always, this video was an absolute delight. Hope you’re doing really really well Hannah. All the love to you. 💙📚💫
I loved Eliza and her monsters!
Eliza and her monsters is on my nightstand... I'll get to it soon
I honestly highly recommend All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. The story has such a strong message and I genuinely couldn’t stop crying. There is suicide within the narrative so there’s a warning but I honestly cannot fault this book.
I read this recently and although it didn't make me cry it did make me tear up and it was so good! I also highly recommend this book but def look up tw
