Evelyn Hugo and Truly Devious are really high up on my TBR. I can't wait to pick them up! I'm also so happy you mentioned Rebecca, that's my all time favorite book! :)
Your comment about reading Wintergirls "IF you're in the right place to read it" was extremely appreciated! I have tried to set my emotions aside to read heavy books and it never ended well. Thank you for taking a few seconds out of your video to remind us that our mental health should come before books. They will still be there when we are in a better place and I think we often forget that.
I read “Truly Devious” when it first came out, and it was completely amazing!! I would definitely recommend it. I actually just finished reading Rebecca today for school, and it was ok. The beginning of the book started off pretty slow but the ending was amazing.
OMG I absolutely love Rebecca! I was always so reluctant to pick a classic but this really changed my perspective about classic books! Highly recommended!
Oh Hannah! I wish I could just show u how happy and hopeful this video makes me. Almost overwhelmed. And then sad cuz I won't really find all those books. Still loved this.

OH MY GOD I SO LOVE REBECCA!!!! So much so that I wrote my thesis about it! (about identity and Gothic modern literature written by women) You convinced me to read Her Body and Other Parties ;) Wintergirls is in my wish-list, and has been for such a long time! I should read it! Thank you for this video!
i've been in a looong reading slump and this got me in the mood to read! idk if it's the way you describe the books or the books themselves that sound so appealing to me, idk, but thank you!!
Here’s how my life went today Me: *gets home from school* Me: *Doesn’t wanna start Homework* Me: *Checks UA-cam before starting* Me: HANNAH UPLOADED? So long, homework
I loooved Wintergirls!! I didn't think it would be as triggering for me as it was, but I found that I recognized a lot of myself in the book-- but it was something I really needed to discover. I'm so glad I read it when I did.
Thank you so much for your indepth look at each book. I usually buy a selection of books for my granddaughters middle school library. There are several, well really all of them that I think would be excellent additions to the school library. Thank you again.
I've been following you for quite some time and I have been so inspired to read again. I had this really loooooooonnnngggg hiatus in reading and now I'm back! The way you talk about the books you've read felt so real and I also felt how much you love reading. Keep it up!😊👍
truly devious is a MUST READ! the characters are personable and the way maureen johnson describes and writes about ellingham academy makes it feel so real. it’s a total page turner. it took a minute for me to get into it but i read 200 pages today at least. the vanishing stair is the second novel in the series which i already have checked out and the third book (the hand on the wall) will be released on january 21st which i’ll be asking my librarian to pre-order. i can’t describe my love for this book. the cliff hanger is making me crazy. anyways, 100% RECOMMEND!!!
Omg I LOVED your comment about Milk and Honey and the « simplistic » poetry vibe going around these days! It annoys me so much when I hear people say that it’s not real poetry because its too simplistic but what they dont understand is that the topics are far from being simple and so important and heavy. I think that its way more impressive when a simple sentence makes you feel so many things, rather than a longuer sentence that doesnt make any sense in the end... 😊
I haven't read any of these yet. Several are already on my TBR, but I'm adding the rest because you made them sound so good! And I love rec videos of all kinds!
I feel like if you haven’t read Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone you’d really enjoy it! It’s a story that covers OCD and anxiety (though I don’t have OCD myself, I really related to the anxiety parts as someone who does experience it!) and it’s just such a wonderful story!!
I read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for BookTubeathon, and I finished it on the 4th or 5th day. I consider that a major accomplishment, and that book was a roller-coaster that also guts you. Man!! I was speechless for like a whole day. I enjoyed Truly Devious, but it didn't stick with me as much as I think The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo will. I already forgot most of the things that happened in Truly Devious.
I read the Astonishing Color of After last month b/c of your recommendation. It was so beautifully written and I loved that it dealt with suicide without making the entire story feel really heavy and dark. And the relationship she developed with her grandparents was so sweet!! Also, a book club for Her Body and Other Parties would be awesome. Every person I’ve seen that’s read it says it a lot to take in but I haven’t heard anything negative about it yet.
I love Evelyn Hugo and I think it would be really cool if you did more adult books that could bridge the gap for people who are only or stuck reading why YA but want to try out more mature themes because we all become adults at some point. I also think it would be a great series to start doing random book selections because every book doesn't fall cleanly into a specific genre. I literally call it the Genreless Books Collection on my shelves, it would be a disservice and I would never be able to find the books because I'd be looking in like mysteries but because it's got like a sci-fi and Gothic horror element it with those books but I'm looking in mystery because it also mystery and that's all I can remember at the time. No this is the Factionless books. 📚
Gah! I need to read so many of these still! seven husbands of evelyn hugo, astonishing color of after, everyone's a aliebn, and her body and other parties! I have read Wintergirls and absolutely loved it!
Hi, I was thinking off including a list of the books you talk about. Because it's so much easier to search the book that you want to search after watching your video. Just a tip:)
I am listening to the audiobook of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo right now, and I am enjoying it so much! It's totally out of my comfort zone, but it's sooo good. 💕
Oh myyyyy! I’m hoping to read Evelyn Hugo very very soon and I’m so excited! I also have been wanting to read Everyone’s An Alien for a while now as I love simplistic but emotionally to-the-point stories and poetry as well! (Recently read Princess and couldn’t stop crying!!!! 😂) Also, if you’re looking for more adult books, I recently read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. I absolutely fell in love with it and I think you would too!!! This video was a joy to watch. Always makes my day when you upload! Would love to see more random recommendation videos from you in the future. Hope you’re doing really well Hannah. All the love to you! 💙📚💫
I read Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and I have to say it was one amazing read. I liked how the writing was super lucid and reading the book felt effortless because of the way it was written. Moreover, my favorite character had to be Harry Cameron though I think he was written in the way that it was the easiest to like him. Yes, the story was from Evelyn's perspective so I'm not sure if she was a reliable narrator. Though I'd like to believe, she put out most of herself. The heartbreaking part was that most of the characters die after you have become fond of them. All in all, it was a very interesting read and once again, thank you for the recommendation :)
'Everyone's an Aliebn' was so amazing. I know exactly what you mean, it is hard to describe but so powerful and definitely not talked about enough! I read it for booktube-a-thon and i'm so glad I decided to pick it up, I did not think it would be as deep as it is but I loved it.
Eight books recommended by me ( not in any particular order) 1. Forget me not 2. The fault in our stars 3. Everyday 4. The Pistachio prescription 5. Wonder 6. Ninth ward 7. So b it 8. Out of my mind
you have the best channel ever. When i found your channel i right immediately fell in love with it. Because of you i start to get alot of books & find books more intresting & i also got furyborn & im excited to read it & i want to get the "the seven husbands of evelyn hugo"& "the astonishing color of after"! thank you for all the good book recommendations!! Love you💛😊
Hmmm. I wonder if I can come up with seven books I consider necessities. Let's try. Gotta start with the best book I've ever read. *Wonders of the Invisible World by Christopher Barzak* is about a boy called Aidan Lockwood growing up in a small rural town in the American south. Aidan doesn't really have any friends and he's just sort of drifting through life. Then his best childhood friend, Jarrod, returns to their hometown and tries to rekindle his relationship with Aidan. But Aidan can't remember the things Jarrod tells him, even though he definitely should, especially the strange supernatural phenomena only he could see. Aidan and Jarrod decide to try and get Aidan's memories back, and along the way they discover the secret history of the Lockwood family. It's a story about loss, sacrifice, revenge and consequences. Plus it won a Stonewall award, so you know it's gotta be good. And then it has to be *We are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson* . It's about this boy called Henry Denton, whose life is kind of hell right now. He's bullied at school, his brother is abusive, his mother is distant and his grandma has alzheimers. The one thing he had that was good in his life was Jesse, his boyfriend. And then Jesse committed suicide. As a result of all of this, Henry has pretty severe depression. On top of that, he gets abducted by aliens and is told the world is going to end unless he presses a button to save it. But Henry isn't sure if the Earth is worth saving. He has 144 days to decide. I know you would love it because everything you say about The Astonishing Colour of After reminds me of this book. It deals with suicide and depression in an incredibly raw and real way, but it has an incredibly hopeful overtone. For something completely different, the next recommendation has to be *Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy* . Skulduggery Pleasant is a bestselling (though sadly not in the USA, owing to the American publishers losing confidence in the series, giving it terrible covers, and subsequently only publishing the first three books) Irish children's fantasy series about a twelve year-old girl called Stephanie Edgley whose uncle Gordon dies, leaving his vast fortune and his estate, much to everyone's surprise, to Stephanie. Circumstances conspire that Stephanie ends up alone at night in Gordon's house, placing her in terrible danger when a man breaks in looking for a key. Before anything happens to Stephanie, she is rescued by Skulduggery Pleasant, a detective who just so happens to be a reanimated skeleton. It is the best children's series of all time with amazing characters, incredibly sharp dialogue, and a masterfully woven, intricate plot. The series also gets darker as Stephanie ages, venturing into full-on horror at some points. The first book is titled Scepter of the Ancients in the USA Staying in the same vein, *The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud* is a children's fantasy series set in an alternate universe version of Britain, ruled over by magicians who enslave spirits to do their bidding. Bartimaeus is a djinni who is summoned by a young boy to steal the Amulet of Samarkand from the house of the notorious and powerful magician, Simon Lovelace. Things don't quite go to plan. Despite its fairly simplistic premise, the books go incredibly deep, and examine ideas of classism, abuse of power, slavery, loyalty, friendship and love. They are some of the best books ever written. The first book is called The Amulet of Samarkand. Much in the same style as Bartimaeus, we have *The House of Mountfathom by Nigel McDowell* . It's set during the Irish civil war and it follows a boy called Luke, who is the son of Lord and Lady Mountfathom, the most powerful wizards in Ireland. The story follows Luke as he grows up during the escalating war. It's mostly about the life lessons Luke learns, his relationship with his parents and the other wizards, and with a peasant boy called Killian, and the role of wizards in a world that no longer needs them. It's a truly unique book. Then there's *Death or Ice Cream? by Gareth P. Jones* . Death or Ice Cream? is a series of absurdist horror short stories, set in the town of Larkin Mills. It's also about the history of the town, and the war between two powerful forces that struggle over ownership of the town. It offers some commentary on the ideas of religion, omnipotence, and of course, good and evil. But even apart from that, the stories themselves are incredibly entertaining. It's just a good, fun book. And finally, *The Dark Lord of Derkholm by Dianna Wynne Jones* . The world is owned by Mister Chesney, a man who uses his power to cross between dimensions for profit, and sells "pilgrims" from our world the chance to have a real fantasy adventure. But Chesney's "Pilgrim Parties" devastate the land, and the people have had enough of Chesney's rule. They want to rebel, unfortunately, Chesney keeps the people in check with the threat of his demon, a creature more powerful than any other. They resolve to end the tourist trade once and for all by ruining the latest Pilgrim Party. To do it, they must appoint the most incompetent wizard they can think of to be the Dark Lord. The responsibility falls on a man named Derk. The book is mostly a commentary on the dangers of extreme capitalism/corporatism, and abuses of power. The sequel is also very good, and presents a satire on education and the school system. I managed seven!
This is the first video in the booktube community I've ever watched (I'm late to the game, but I'm so excited to be here!). Thank you for your videos! You have inspired me to get back into reading YA books. Your Ravenclaw House books are exactly what I've been looking for. :) I've been reading nonfiction for so long and I'm excited to start reading fiction again! Thank you again for the inspiration!
I recommend the App El Libro Total. The book that contains everything and everyone will be very beneficial to you, and remember that those who love reading have everything at their fingertips.
I have only read the astonishing colour of after because you recommended it and I really love it a lot ! I really like the books you presented and I hope you do another recommendation one soon ! Love you Hannah💖
My favourite book is a book no one really knows about but the plot, characters and humour is on point (for me at least). This book is called *Lockwood and co* I could not recommend this book enough! It’s like a detective, sci-fi,horror ghost story type of ordeal. There are 5 books in the series and it’s complex and it’s plot is incredible. The plot twists have made me gasp and I finished the final book yesterday. The characters have a very similar humour to mine (sarcastic dry British humour 😂). I swear everyone can relate to a character in these books,by book 3 all the characters are incredibly well developed and you can see all their relationships grow and flourish. I could not recommend this book enough! Books: Lockwood and co:The Screaming Staircase Lockwood and co:the whispering skull Lockwood and co:the hollow boy Lockwood and co:the creeping shadow Lockwood and co:the empty grave Author: Jonathan Stroud
Yess!! The only 2 books I’ve read from this list are between my most favourite books too. And Rebecca is already waiting for me in my shelves. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the beautiful edition you have. Sooo... adding all the others to my TBR asap.
all the bright places is one of the most problematic books about mental illness that i've ever read and it's not even ownvoices so if she wants to read it she can but she should know that it has terrible rep and is quite harmful (it triggered one of the worst nervous breakdowns of my life) so please, hannah if you decide to read it i'd suggest you look up the trigger warnings ! if you want to read good mental health rep there's under a rose tainted sky or my heart and other black holes which don't romanticize mental illness and are own voices novels. nothing shameful about loving ATBP though, just wanted to warn the future readers of this novel.
I took your recommendation from the Contempararies you recommend and I read Down and Across by Arvin Ahmadi. Let’s just say it sorta changed my life and the way I look at myself. Thanks for being an inspiring icon! #GirlNerdPower
I've Read Wintergirls when i was 16 and it was the first book that made me want to write stories myself. The poetic and unique style it is written in is so beautiful and inspiring! I've Read it many times since then and it will always have a special place in my heart :)
I love the book Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson I don’t know if is was just me but the ending was shocking. I am also so happy that you started reading the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series I have truly fallen in love with it Lara Jean is a realistic character that I can understand I just wish John Ambrose McClaren was with her instead of someone else not trying to spoil anything for anyone. Everyone says I read too many books but I don’t care they are interesting thank you so much Hannah every UA-cam video you do is amazing!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR RECOMMENDATION. I just finished reading Evelyn Hugo. And just like in the words of Monique Grant, I feel like I know Evelyn more than I know myself. I was so immersed in the story that I can't help feeling like a voyeur peering through the private and raw window of Evelyn's world. I can't wait to recommend this to others. Thanks and much love 💕
Hi, Hannah. I hope you're well. Thank you so much for this video. The time couldn't be better. Thank you for making me feel better. It's been a weird and tough day, mentally. Lots of love. 💕

pavani siliveru What really? Guess I should read it then because I absolutely love the Kite Runner.
I loooved Wintergirls!! I didn't think it would be as triggering for me as it was, but I found that I recognized a lot of myself in the book-- but it was something I really needed to discover. I'm so glad I read it when I did.
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier was on my school’s required reading list and now you’ve recommended it I’m so excited to read it!
Thank you so much for your indepth look at each book. I usually buy a selection of books for my granddaughters middle school library. There are several, well really all of them that I think would be excellent additions to the school library. Thank you again.
Me clicking on this video “this better not just be the Harry Potter books”
Me too! Not that i dont like the harry potter series just nah im over them.
Me too, I don’t find the Harry Potter series to be something I like
😂😂
I've been following you for quite some time and I have been so inspired to read again. I had this really loooooooonnnngggg hiatus in reading and now I'm back! The way you talk about the books you've read felt so real and I also felt how much you love reading. Keep it up!😊👍
You absolutely sold me on The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo!!!
theworldofbooks same! just ordered it😂
Wintergirls was honestly an AMAZING book that dealt with grief and everyone who has lost someone understands. Speak was so awesome, too.
I've seen several Booktubers praising Evelyn Hugo. Normally I probably wouldn't think it was my cup of tea, but now I'm interested in it.
Did you read it? How was it?
truly devious is a MUST READ! the characters are personable and the way maureen johnson describes and writes about ellingham academy makes it feel so real. it’s a total page turner. it took a minute for me to get into it but i read 200 pages today at least. the vanishing stair is the second novel in the series which i already have checked out and the third book (the hand on the wall) will be released on january 21st which i’ll be asking my librarian to pre-order. i can’t describe my love for this book. the cliff hanger is making me crazy. anyways, 100% RECOMMEND!!!
Hannah you literally the only booktuber that can make me love every recommended book before I even read it. 😁
I love your recommendations! So many of the books on my shelves were purchased because I knew you loved them!
Your recommendation literally pulled me out of reading block
ShadowQueen reading block? That's a new onee
Reading block is reeeaal! Dead terrifying.
Same!!!
Wow, that’s great!
Do u mean reading slump? Cuzthats what i’m used to!
You're the fifth person to recommend Rebecca. I love classical lit, so I would really want to check out that book.
I was planning to binge watch random shows but this video inspired me to dig into the two library books sitting on my shelf! Thank you.
I invite you to download the App of the digital library El Libro Total, which is free and become part of that literary journey.
Also, if you’re looking for more adult books, I recently read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.
I want them!!!!
I WANT THEM ALLLLLLL
'Everyone's an Aliebn' was so amazing. I know exactly what you mean, it is hard to describe but so powerful and definitely not talked about enough! I read it for booktube-a-thon and i'm so glad I decided to pick it up, I did not think it would be as deep as it is but I loved it.
“I didn’t think I would like it so much”
*me to literally every favorite book of mine*

The first book is titled Scepter of the Ancients in the USA
Staying in the same vein, *The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud* is a children's fantasy series set in an alternate universe version of Britain, ruled over by magicians who enslave spirits to do their bidding.
I managed seven!
how do i bookmark comments asdfghjkl
I mean you could copy and paste it?
Thank you for your recommendations! Your comment was very in-depth and I appreciate that you shared these books.

Can i live with you so that i could read all this every dayy !! Much love x
please do more book recommendations! i love hearing you talk about books that you love-you always seem so genuine and passionate :-)
I love books that start conversations any other recommendations?
I recommend the App El Libro Total. The book that contains everything and everyone will be very beneficial to you, and remember that those who love reading have everything at their fingertips.
I have only read the astonishing colour of after because you recommended it and I really love it a lot ! I really like the books you presented and I hope you do another recommendation one soon ! Love you Hannah💖
My favourite book is a book no one really knows about but the plot, characters and humour is on point (for me at least). This book is called *Lockwood and co*
I could not recommend this book enough!
Books:
Lockwood and co:The Screaming Staircase
Lockwood and co:the whispering skull
Lockwood and co:the hollow boy
Lockwood and co:the creeping shadow
Lockwood and co:the empty grave
Author: Jonathan Stroud
I will definitely read this and the book I recommend is Perry Marios and the Maroon Stone
I read “An ember in the ashes” because of you, and I loved it! It is now one of my favorite books!
I think you should definitely do more videos like this. A mystery themed one would be great.
Perry Marios and the Maroon Stone is the one you will definitely love
Yess!! The only 2 books I’ve read from this list are between my most favourite books too. And Rebecca is already waiting for me in my shelves. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the beautiful edition you have. Sooo... adding all the others to my TBR asap.
Please read All The Bright Places 💛💛
Sammy Lee yesssss she really should, its amazing
its one of my favorite books
Yes, I loved that book so muchh
I'm reading that rn
all the bright places is one of the most problematic books about mental illness that i've ever read and it's not even ownvoices so if she wants to read it she can but she should know that it has terrible rep and is quite harmful (it triggered one of the worst nervous breakdowns of my life) so please, hannah if you decide to read it i'd suggest you look up the trigger warnings ! if you want to read good mental health rep there's under a rose tainted sky or my heart and other black holes which don't romanticize mental illness and are own voices novels. nothing shameful about loving ATBP though, just wanted to warn the future readers of this novel.
I worked in a library and i found your channel and thanks to you now i can read good books and give great recommendations thanks.
How do you always look so flawless
Hi, Hannah. I hope you're well. Thank you so much for this video. The time couldn't be better. Thank you for making me feel better. It's been a weird and tough day, mentally. Lots of love. 💕

Jennifer Edward lol yes it will be at least 2 hours!
I just got Dante and Aristotle Discover the Secretes of the Universe and The Terrible and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender from the library from one of your other recommendation videos and I am sooooo excited to start them!
I wish that I had a house big enough to have a whole room dedicated to my love for books and reading...
I have really bad anxiety so sometimes I can’t sleep because I’m so worked up and worried and your videos always calm me down❤️❤️❤️
