1955 they would have already been having issues and barely speaking to each other, yet the emotions conveyed in this song show how much they still cared for each other. Yes, you can say that skits were planned, but they worked off of bare bones ideas and things were rarely scripted. They would have known they were going to sing this song, but it wouldn't have been choreographed
I AM crying!!Soooo sad. To be honest you can see a sadness in Jerry's eyes here. You can tell he really loved Dean. Side note: didn't know jerry had blue eyes haha
@@loisseiwert9180 Better is Dean's birthday in 1989 where he tells Jerry he loves him, puts both hands on his face, and kisses him on the lips. Usually it was Jerry who did that... it was lovely. Any issues between them were dissolved with such love...
Toni Wilson to misses Wilson. Did Jerry sung on Mister Dean's funeral? can I please ask you the title of the song? Have a Nice day. kind regards from Belgium Fabienne

Of Crouse I can't prove it I wasn't there but it was reported on one of the news cast that he was there and he did sing at his funeral. I would love to know what he sung. I will try to find the clip that talk about this. Have a good day
I find it so hard to watch this as is it wasn't long before they split for good. You can see Lewis' need for Martin's approval and love. The boys were already in deep trouble at this time. If only they had shook off the hangers on who were spreading seeds of mistrust between them and stuck it out, but it wasn't to be. Having said that, Lewis needed to be more creative and Martin needed to get out from Lewis' dominance. Nonetheless, thank God so much of this golden partnership still survives on film. They really did belong together.
As much as we hate to say this, I guess the breakup was meant to be. And I say this in a very positive way. It was a blessing in disguise for both of them. As you know, Dean was an excellent singer / crooner, while Jerry was his usual self ( the clown if you will) and as you know, they were great together but all good things though not always, come to an end. Just like this relationship. Dean went on to expand his career as did Jerry they got a taste of producing, directing, writing, etc. etc. In other words, it was a blessing in disguise for both of them they expanded their careers and had a chance to do a little more other than the same old routine which was making great movies, and making people laugh with their usual stuff. And being seen on television for special appearance etc. And like they say, opposites do attract. Dean the straight man, Jerry the funny man, Dean slightly older, and Jerry was slightly younger of course, Dean with a great voice, while Jerry had the wacky singing voice for the films of course. If you pay very close attention to all of their movies, he never smoked unless it was part of the script. And the same holds true for drinking. Then when they broke up the partnership, Dean had to reinvent himself. So what happened was while singing, he looked a little stiff kind of like a robot. So Harry Mills from The Mills Brothers said to him one day, hey you need to loosen up here. Why don't you light up a cigarette have a little drink or hold one at least and it will automatically give you some confidence you'll never be nervous cuz you'll have something to do with your hands and it wouldn't hurt if you have a little drink so that's what he did he took his suggestion and tried it. It worked so well, he kept using it. But what a lot of people don't know is, that 95% of the time he didn't drink in real life. Oh sure, he would have a drink from time to time while having dinner I've heard and seen interviews when he was 100% normal without acting silly and said he would only have maybe a glass of wine for dinner every now and then. But on stage, it was always Martinelli's apple juice ( because it sounded a little like his last name. (Though his real last name before he changed it to Martin was Crocetti ) I heard Dean in an interview pronouncing his real last name to be Crow-set-tee. And NOT Crow- shetti. The reason why he would have Martinelli's apple juice on stage was because it would give it the illusion as if it was bourbon or some kind of liquor in his glass which was part of his act. He went on to say in no way shape or form, would he drink on stage especially being on stage for about an hour and a half, to 2 hours at a time that no one would be able to stand up at that point. And besides, no casino or television show or wherever he was appearing would allow someone such as an alcoholic to drink on stage. It's a liability risk. Like he, and I said, it's part of the ACT and he did it so well, that he would convince everyone even the people that knew better that he was really drinking when he was not.
@@donaldperez7981 It's still hard... I wish they could have done their own thing, and then performed once per month... Too much press, too much hangers on, too much popularity and they needed to step away, take a deep breath, do their own thing, and come back together in a more limited fashion. Still heartbroken and I just found out about Martin and Lewis three months ago. Was not alive during their time. Timeless, rare connection; timeless comedy.
I always knew Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, I discovered their movies together in the 90s but had never seen their Colgate comedy hour appearances or their nightclub act until recently thanks to UA-cam. I never knew how special they really were until now, they really break your heart. I wondered why the feeling people had/have for these two and I came across an interview Jerry did with Larry King and he asked Jerry that very question and Jerry replied “love”. People love to see people together that love one another and if you think about it, it’s so true. Dean and Jerry adored one another and it certainly showed. They were the best I’ve ever seen. Nobody compares and never will. Long live the boys!♥️💔
It hits you watching their greatness what the difference is between their era and today's celebrity culture and what passes for "entertainment": then, it was the pure joy of what they were expressing through song, dance, and comedy. It was meant to impart that joy to the audience, nothing more. Today, everything has an overlay of political correctness and nothing has a purity to it anymore. Today, their act would be scrutinized for anything "offensive," and they would be part of a culture that lacks the joy and spontaneity they gave to the world - and still do - and at least we have that.

@@Donazify Yeah. They talked, but there were lots of tensions. How mad! They should have just got through it all and stayed together. However, we are STILL talking about them and if that doesn't tell us something very important about this partnership, I don't know what does!
They were together constantly and closely for 10 YEARS! That's a big chunk of their lives. Hardly what i'd call 'didn't work out'. People change and grow, especially in that business. They did well doing 8 shows day and night plus films for so long. Dean did what he wanted, and no one could tell him what to do, even Sinatra. He was 9 years older than Jerry and tired of doing such physical stuff and being less popular than his partner.
I believe what Dean said during an interview in his later life saying that he just got tired of it and it was time to move on. I think Jerry wanted to hang on and probably pissed Dean off in the end hence the 20 years without speaking.
I love it when Jerry puts his head on Dean's shoulder at the end. Such a sweet and genuine moment.
And now they are, Have fun in heaven together Partners

Jerry didn't sing at Dean' funeral. He just read a prepared speech. Rosemary Clooney sang "Everybody Loves Somebody."
