I watched your video several times and have just finished spray basting my quilt. it certainly is much easier than pinning on the floor. Am 80 years old and my poor knees can no longer take pain of floor pinning. Will let it dry completely overnight and start my top stitching tomorrow which will be the true test on how this comes out. Am confident that all is well !!! Will keep you posted on the finished results. Again, thank you for the video....was most helpful.
This is so helpful. I have been table basting but struggling. The way you have folded it makes so much sense. Thank you.
Your technique blew me away! Thank you thank you!
OMG…Thank you do very much for this tutorial. I’m 79 with a horrible back condition and this will make sandwiching so much easier! I will share with my quilting friends…Thank you again Erica♥️
Very good demonstration. There is not much of this step in quilting out there. So this should be very helpful for beginners. Thanks ❤️
Just came across this!! Dont know how I missed it! Thank you for making it! Very helpful!!!
Oh I'm so glad for this. I have a queen size quilt that I need to baste and I was absolutely dreading crawling around on the floor. I'm getting to old for all that.
This is one of the most usual quilting video I’ve ever watched. I’m a beginner and followed these instructions on my first 3 quilts. Works like a dream.
I love this video!! I've never basted on my table before, but will try it next time! My back and knees will appreciate it!!! Thanks so much!
I’ve been floor basting, but my old knees can’t take much more! I like to thread baste. I don’t have as big a table as yours, but I’m planning to do smaller donation quilts now. My family says they have enuf big quilts lol. I’m gonna try the pool noodle method which should be good for my smaller quilt sandwiches. Thanks for your inspiration!!
When I need to baste a quilt any larger than lap size I take all the materials down to my church and use the tables in their community room. Anything lap size or smaller I use my full size ironing board. I just plain don't have room anywhere else. Works fine, just inconvenient to have to travel a Q size quilt, batting, backing and pins or sprays. Very, very helpful tutorial (as always!) Thank you!
Erica! I am so excited to see this! My back and knees kill me when I’m basting my quilts and this is perfect! Thank you 😊
So much easier than crawling around on the floor! My knees thank you! I always enjoy your videos.
Thank you, Erica! You made it look so easy and fast! Basting is my least favorite part of quilting since I have to crawl around on hardwood floors to do it, so I will definitely be trying this! One tip…I find a cat “helping” works better than clamps 😹 Take care, Erica!
Thank you sooo much for this video. I couldn't believe how much easier and quicker the basting went.
I am new to quilting and I made this quilt last year! I’m always amazed at how smooth your quilt tops are! Quilting was something that I always found to be so cool. It combines my love of puzzles and blankets. 😝 Your videos have been a great help and as imperfect as my Christmas quilt came out, I absolutely love it! Hoping that the more quilts I make, the smoother my quilts come out. Thank you for all of your content and tips!!
Thank you for sharing!
Very nice! I thought you were going to use a needle and thread for basting. Lol. I'm a beginner. Love the video! 🌸
Great video! I’m to old to be crawling on the floor!
Great tutorial! Thank you 👍
Hello! I'm still trying to catch up watching all the videos that posted while I was away visiting the grandkids. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead! Thank you for posting and sharing your talent.
Thank you so much 👍
Thank you!
I was just waiting for Jax to jump up there. Didn’t have to wait long.😊
Wow! This was very nice of you to show us how to table baste. I just finished my first layer cake flannel quilt top. I was going to send it out to get quilted. Now that I've seen how easy it is to baste I think I will just straight stich my quilt. What frightens me is squaring it up. Practice,practice,practice...right!?!😉
Eureka! I use the pool noodle method which is very similar BUT your version looks so much easier...I have to use too much brain power for the noodles...I'm going to use your method for my next quilt. THANK YOU ERICA!
You did a fantastic job but I am a bit over this stage of of what you have demostrated. I am nearly 72 and I have been quilting for 45 years . I have to quilt without all that moving around. I really like to lap quilt but now I Quilt As You Go. I fine this works great for me.
Now saying all that , you show people this very good way to do this table quilt !!!!!
And..I love the fact we can iron this batting!!
This video is immensly helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for your video! I have had both knees replaced and table spray basting is the way to go! Now I am ready to quilt!
Thank you for posting this. As we get up in age our knees seem like the first thing to give out..lol. Great video!
OMG, Erica. I needed this so much! My last quilt almost killed me. I didn’t know which way to turn. I’ve seen several options but I’m thankful to have found this. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much for your kindness in sharing your videos with us. I just spray basted a quilt this way and it was so easy. Thank you again. Have a great day. Rhonda
I go over to our church and set up 2-3 tables to do my spray basting since my cutting table is only 3 x 6. This folding and spraying looks easier instead of taping down etc. Will try it today.
My sister and I have been table basting for several years. Love it!
Wie immer, wunderbar erklärt. Danke für diese wirklich hilfreichen Erklärungen
What a beautiful quilt x
OMGGGGG!!!! Thank you!!! I really want to know how you tie off and then restart
i have a full size bed that sits kinda high so i use it for my layout and basting station. i prefer fusible battings but i have curved pins and I use basting sprays too.
Thanks.
I do this same way except i start with having the backing down first, then the batting. Then the quilt top. I also press both sides
Why didn’t I think of this? Thanks for this tutorial. Your hair looks too😊
Great idea I've always done it on my floor and it's getting harder to stand back up ! Love your colors in your cute quilts!!
Thanks so much for your tutorial! I just had to watch to see if your method differed from what I have been doing! I do the table top but I use pool noodles to roll my fabric batting and top all on separate noodles…..❤️
Very timely. I was just searching for a tutorial on how to baste a table runner a few days ago. This looks way more doable versus the stretching technique someone else had a tutorial on. Thanks!
I love 505 spray! I use it whenever I quilt it myself. I use painter’s tape on the outside edges and do it on my kitchen table. I can’t do the floor anymore either. It kills the knees! Thanks for another great tutorial
Your tips always help me out!
So much easier. Thankyou for a great video.
Thank you. Very helpful.❤️
I’m totally with you on basting on the floor and I live in a small house so don’t have much room for table basting but I am a pin baster and have looked for an easier way and while using basting spray is so much easier, I cannot due to my asthma, even with wearing a mask. Sometimes on a small project , I’ll take it outside and use a vinyl shower liner to lay it on and spray baste there which works well but I will say that my machine does not love it. It gums up my needles and since I densely quilt - I’ve only used this method for smaller projects. One thing I have done on large quilts is to pay a long arm friend to load it and baste it for me and that has worked really well for me, although I will say that she was NOT happy with me this last time since I double batted with wool and 80/20 (Hobbs) and she could not get it under her hopping foot without adjusting something major.
That was a very helpful method Erica. Thank you.
I need a table like yours. Love the red trucks!! Thank you for this video.
You can see how I made it here: www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/blog/2022/03/2022-updated-sewing-room-tour.html
I also use a table for my sandwiching, but I layout my backing, then batting, then quilt top so all three layers are smoothed and ready. Then I pin. I like pinning over spraying. Easier for me, but your video gives me another option. Thanks, Erica!
Great tutorial! I usually get on my knees and pin, but I will be sure to try this method too!👍👍
Wow ! Looking so beautiful...
This was a great tutorial. Thanks for sharing these awesome tips
Thank you Erica- this helps me a lot!!!
Thank you! This is great! I need to try this right away and start finishing my quilts!
Great video! I learned so much from this. Love the clamps idea.
Love this! When is the next block of the month coming out? I’m so excited!
The 3rd Thursday of the month :)
Awesome! Thanks so much! I really think I will be doing this basting method!
Super helpful! Thank you!
Thanks for this Erica - I just can’t get down on the floor anymore either- the price is just too great to pay LOL. I do this for small projects I quilt myself, table runners, baby quilts, etc. my big quilts go straight to the long arm quilter.
Interesting! I love seeing how you did this! I’m a big fan of Odif as well. I don’t have a big table but I have a double bed in my guest room. It has become my place to put my quilts together. My only complaint is that I tend to get some of the sticky spray that settles on the furniture. It super hard to get off my wood dresser. I probably won’t stop using this method, but I wish I knew how to cut down on the overspray and how to get it off surfaces.
Great tutorial!
Great tip. Thanks!
Ive always worked on my tables never on the floor, but this was a good idea as I pin, no basting spray cause its sticky and its hard to get off floor or table. Im gonna try the spray and see how it does.
I always use pool noodles. Work great
great idea!
Loved the tutorial! I have a question about a quilt behind you. It is the pumpkins and leaves in turquoise and pumpkin colors. Where is that video? I can’t find it on your site and would love to make it. Thank you for all your quilting tutorials! They are so helpful.
Hi! That is called Farmhouse Fall and you can get it here:
store.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=farmhouse+fall
@@erica_arndt Thank you!
You sold me on spray basting with 505 spray and I still use floor, for now...but soon I will need a table.
I know I might not get an answer, but what kind of table are you using? I really like the size and would like some details about it. Love how you basted this on your table. I did the same one day at a park and used a big picnic table and I did find it so much easier. Thanks!
Oop, got my question answered in your sewing room tour video.
Hello Erica....thank you for sharing your tips....have you got your sew simple box yet?...I cant wait to see that tutorial.
Coming soon!
Three pool noodles. Wrap back batting, the top…
L.but your way seems to work (especially with a cute at helping)
Giant binder clips
Great video, as always! I've been in search of a great table for my basement studio. I'd like to know about yours. What size is it? Where did you get it?
Hi! All of my sewing room furniture info is here: www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/blog/2022/03/2022-updated-sewing-room-tour.html
I am curious how this would work when the quilt is much larger than the table. Your table in this video is wide enough to handle the quilt width, so it's only falling off on two sides instead of all four. I do not have a large enough table to baste a queen size quilt (like the one I just finished). I ended up moving furniture and rolling a carpet back so I could lay everything on the floor, and getting extra paper for the sides so the spray wouldn't get on the furniture or floor itself. That was an ordeal and certainly makes QAYG look a lot more attractive.
Thank you for this tutorial Erica. There is no way I could get down on the floor & do this so I will have to try it. Do you know if I were to hire out the quilting down by a longarmer if they would accept this method of basting?
Hi, if you send your quilt to a long armer, you will NOT need to baste your quilt. They will do it for you on their machine.
Can you show how to load a quilt onto the quilting machine?
Love your videos. Where did you get your table and the cutting Matt? Your quilts always look amazing.
Here's all of the info on my mat! ua-cam.com/video/kZAh_-IqiLE/v-deo.html
Thanks Erica! I had no idea where to start on this step! So before you take a quilt to the long armer do you have to do this step (I know you do your own) 🥰 but I would be taking mine out to be done. Thank you!
Hi! You only need to baste your quilt if you are quilting it yourself. If you're taking it to a long armer they will load it on their machine so you do NOT want to baste it in that case :)
Thank you! Great to know!!!♥️
Interesting video. Will try it. Is the spray really strong smelling?
No it's not bad, but I do open the windows and sometimes wear a mask just to be safe.
Once you’re finished spray basting, do you also use safety pins before quilting?
no, I don't pin at all anymore :)
The tips are great...but how did you quilt it? I am trying to quilt a small lap quilt and it is still shifting terribly.
Hi, the spray basting has helped me tremendously with fabric shifting! I do have a video on free-motion quilting on my Juki here: ua-cam.com/video/ZCHLA1P43gw/v-deo.html
This was great and very helpful. I love your table, where did you find it??
www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/blog/2022/03/2022-updated-sewing-room-tour.html
Love the folded quilt behind you. What is name of pattern and where did you get it. PLEASE AND THANK YOU.
Hi! That is Vintage Christmas 2: store.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=96&products_id=604
Do you have a video on your sewing table? Wondering what size it is and if you made it or ordering info?
I do: ua-cam.com/video/LMoWbbiquh0/v-deo.html
After you spray baste do yo pin baste or thread baste
No, I don't pin at all, just spray with the 505 and haven't had any issue with fabric puckering.
Do you have trouble with the spray getting on the floor, or furniture?
I like this process better than pinning. Thanks for the video.
I do get some on the floor if I'm not careful and sometimes my table. But it's very easy to mop up and wipe off the table.
I like this but how about basting a king quilt???
I basted my king size gingham quilt on this table too, it just hung over the edges, so I had to pull it side to side as well. Wasn't quite as easy, but it works!
Very intersting idea. I like it. One question because I have never heard of spray basting before... Will spray basting work with hand quilting?
Like you said basting on the floor really kills my knees and frustrates me. Lol
Yes! I actually think it's easier because I don't have to worry about my quilt shifting when it's crumpled up on my lap :)
@@erica_arndt that does make sense. I usually wrap it around myself to keep it taught. Lol thanks much for the reply
Thanks for showing me what to do. I’ve always sent my quilts out because I can’t get on my knees or on the floor anymore. What size is your table?
It's about 46" x 78", here's info on that: ua-cam.com/video/LMoWbbiquh0/v-deo.html
This was a great video Erica 😊 What brand of table do you have ? How big is it ? Thank you for sharing 💖
Ikea, here's the info: ua-cam.com/video/LMoWbbiquh0/v-deo.html
Hi Erika. What kind of table do you have for your table top basting method? I can't seem to locate one.
Thanks!
Donja
Hi! I have 2 Ikea table tops pushed together, you can see more on that here: ua-cam.com/video/LMoWbbiquh0/v-deo.html
Thank you for a great video. Very helpful. I have wanted to try spray basting. What is the fall pattern behind you? I often iron (low heat) the wrinkles out of batting before pinning.
I don't iron my batting because it seems to stretch it out of place and make it wavy. But it might just be because I use the cotton batting. The fall quilt on the wall is Vintage Fall, and the one on the ladder is Farmhouse Fall. Both are linked below the video, or in my store.confessionsofahomeschooler.com
@@erica_arndt I don't iron it like you would iron a shirt more steam the wrinkles out where needed
why don’t you like the purple and white can of Spray N Bond? That’s what I have used and had no issues
I think it's too sticky, and then I still get shifting, but it's just personal preference. 505 is my favorite.
i do have to get better about clipping threads though.
Do you ever have problems with the layers puckering while you are quilting? I have tried pin basting and spray basting, but no matter what I do, when I start quilting the layers get wrinkled up. Especially on the back. I am using a standard machine with a spring loaded quilting foot.
I had puckering when I pin basted, so I don't do it like that anymore. I only use 505 spray basting and haven't had any issues.
Would this also work with a queen sized quilt? I don't have a table that's long enough for the width of my quilt, but doing it on the floor is such a pain.
yes, you just have to move it side to side as well
I have always table basted with pins BUT I can't do the spray basting..I have tried it several time and have had total disasters
I am brand new at quilting(started teaching myself during the pandemic shut down). Where can I purchase a table or how do I make a table big enough to easily spray baste my quilts?
My table is from Ikea, details are all in my sewing room tour here: ua-cam.com/video/LMoWbbiquh0/v-deo.html
"Big enough" to baste is going to vary based on what size projects you normally make. My table is 46" x 73" and as you can see I have to move my quilts around a bit, so you can make your table work. I've also used my dining room table, and even my kitchen island!
@@erica_arndt thank you for getting back with me. I will have to keep looking for a table. IKEA wants over $350.00 for shipping!
