Really breaks my heart that we can’t preserve long standing businesses in various communities.
This brought tears to my eyes. I make special trips there for my mom and I. She just passed two months ago so to see our favorite bakery go after all these years is heartbreaking. I don't know if I will ever find a German Chocolate cake like theirs. I am going to miss A Taste of Denmark.
I work for Matt and Nat Bakery in Signal Hill Ca and I love working here. I couldn’t imagine my bakery closing down. Heart breaking to hear this.
On willow street ?(
I now live in Las Vegas and I haven’t found a bakery like Neldams.. I grew up going to Neldams.. I was raised in the Bay Area…I am no 71 years old..Will forever miss Neldams 😢
This is so sad, I remember going to this place with my grandparents when I was little.
Yep, blame the pandemic - it may have been the final nail in the coffin, but don't think the cost of doing business in a dysfunctional, corrupt and crime-ridden city didn't have something to with it as well.
I’m surprised they didn’t cut out the “have to replace a broken window every 3 weeks” part out of the interview
It's always the same excuse. Blame the pandemic. That shit is long over and 90% was all fear mongering.
The insane high rate of crime is forcing many businesses to shut down and leave for good.
Thank the liberals and democrats you voted for.
@@ImUrZaddy it was missing from another station's intervew,,,kron 4 I think
The lock downs was always about destroying small business.
This is so sad - we just featured cakes from A Taste Of Denmark at Family Support Services annual fundraiser😢
man i just ate there when we was working on the street. really good bakery
That is always sad when good things disappear.
Oh no, this is very sad.
What a loss to that community!!! I wish they rally and helped that business stay afloat. 93 years is such a long time to be open, just to close due to covid. I bet they would have eventually recovered. So sad!!!
i loved their danish!!! im so sad!
Pandemic was over a while ago...it's crime.
Why be sad? The people of the community didn't support them enough when it counted. And the city doesn't want to do much to protect local businesses. Broken windows every few weeks.
Good point and well said mostly the people supporting the business where not locals and the local community hardly went by. It seems like a ghost town with homeless tents everywhere.
Taste of Denmark can’t get the taste of Oakland out of its mouth
Replacing the broken windows is costly but who will break their windows. Who is so cheap to break and steal pastries and cakes. Hopefully they relocate to à better location.
The wealthy and many politicians got a PPP loan, the money they received wasn't used for those purposes they put on the application. Those loans were forgiven.
I’m sure it was more of a broken window thing than the pandemic. We watch these news clips everyday and see these cities turn to chaos. Stay tuned and watch as all these businesses board up and leave as our civilization heads down the downward death spiral....
Dumb people wanted to rewrite the rules and defund the police! REAP WHAT YOU SOW DUMMIES!!
There's a saying in small business "death by a thousand cuts". That being said, the lockdown, not the pandemic, killed more small businesses around the nation than anything.
Darn !
I had my first Bornday (Birthday) cakes from there back in the 1980s.
If you are going to start a commercial retail business, put it where "they", ain't... And then hope it's a lot of years, before "they" get there... 😏
fence em out.
You know that feeling you get when you’re watching a story and something sounds not quite right….
the bakery originally was named !!! NELDOMS !!! My mom got all my cakes from here !!!
NO. THE ORIGINAL NAME WAS "NELDAMS".
real bakers, make a lasting impression for the community. fake bakers cause drama but refusing to bake cakes for marginalized communities.
Heart ❤️
Catering should have gone up...not down.
How is it closing for good? What part of the closing is good?
"Closing for good" is an expression meaning "closing with no intention of reopening." It does not mean that the closing itself is a good thing or a bad thing. Its a rather strange English expression.
For instance, you could say this bakery is closing for good. You can also say that a concentration camp is closing for good. One of these is a sad event (I imagine the locals will miss the bakery). The camp on the other hand, I don't think anyone would miss. But the phrase "closing for good" can apply to both.
*That Neighbor hood is so Rough even the police station front door has a peep hole!*
Why was it called a taste of Denmark ? Not one product on those shelves looked authentically from Denmark, especially the bread, it was just factory white bread.
Was it because they thought of Danishes ? The don't even come from Denmark...
Neldens, yes, I remember.
The original Danish sold-out many years ago.
Oakland is dead.
🙏🇺🇸🇲🇽🇬🇹💯⭐🌏 I used to work there night shift
Now it’s time to setup some hood bakery 😂
the coconut crack cakes are to die for!
@Wes Studi Pam and Trudy Donut Hoes...er, Holes... Donut Holes... LOL
No one from the hood wants to work.
Is very sad to see all these old company closed down because of this shitty covid pandamic! Even many of those i never been to but is just sad to see them closed. Best Wishes to them all!
Very good pasties
“We Get Our Windows Broken Every Three Weeks ?”
Wake Up
What a Disaster U R ….
NELL-DAMS!?!? Oh dear, she does not speak week!!
System is gonna build a gas station there xD
Nordic house closed 10yrs ago. Its just white hate right, imagine if it was a soul food place. The taste was the only last real bakery in the east Bay. I hate Oakland so much. I grew up there it has gone insane. Was a jewel just a few years ago. Thanks Gavin...
Nordic house actually closed last year. I went to the last day. It moved its place of operations.
If was me I will do the something who want to live and work at Oakland ghetto city smart move.
Most owners care about themselves and how much money they make
Not the workers or the community
That’s a fact
They worship money
Struggle to stay afloat even after the pandemic
I blame democratic city leaders for this
It’s sickening what the rich and Wall Street has done to America sickening
Talk to me man, inform me; what do you mean?
It's sickening that idiots like you deflect the blame from the real issues, which are the rampant criminality and the high cost of doing business in the SF Bay Area.
🤣🤣🤣 It's the crime and rents in Commiefornia.
Democrat Utopia…
so many maskholes. ah, there you go 1:43
Since the "plandemic".
Bye Liberals 😂😅😂
Vote Democrat!
