Not to mention, the pit stop to Neldams when I d visit my doctor up the Hill, they used to call it Pill Hill back in the day. I will miss all the iconic restaurants that I enjoyed during most of my life. My mother passed on 2019 but I know she’d be sad to hear of this beloved bakery closing down. It’s just one more reason to look for another place to calm home because everything that I loved is no longer her familiar anyway. Thanks for the wonderful memories Neldams😢😢❤❤❤

Inflation, cost of living, high rent, taxes, high prices is a part of it but It's also crime. These days most people only go out when absolutely necessary because you don't know when you will be in the wrong place at the wrong time and end up a crime victim. The folk that run Oakland and some of these other cities just don't get it and some just don't care. If citizens are unsafe, nothing else matters.
I believe they are getting kick backs from the big companies. Just goes to show you what really matters to the Democrats. But I'm sure that there are some Republican rinos also. But I doubt you will find any of them in the bay area.
Street crime (and the constant stream of panhandlers) are what put the final nail in the coffin of this once fine establishment. I started going there in 1973, when I got a job at the hospital just up the hill, Merritt Hospital. Merritt used to buy most (if not all) of their baked goods from this place; it was a winning arrangement for everyone. The employees used to stop in on their way to work, or on the way home, depending on the occasion (pot lucks and birthdays mostly.) When Merritt changed management due to the mergers, the baked goods were no longer bought locally, but from some mega-bakery in another to zip code, or time zone, but not just down the street. That was the first nail in the coffin, and it showed right away. It was Merritt Hospital that kept Neldam's bakery financially solvent. Summit Medical Center (Merritt Hospital's newest name) is still a first rate medical facility, but the times have changed, and we are being changed by the times. They made the BEST Marzipan Crescents!
My mom used to take me to that bakery when it was call NELDAMS , I was 5yrs old. My mom pass this year at 80yrs old. Some how that makes me a little more sadder to see that it would be close for good.
How sad. So many small businesses that have been around for so many years, obviously because they take good care of their customers and their products, are going out of business for reasons that aren't because of retirement. These are the places that make every city, town, community and even a state special. So where is the help they need and should get? They are really the backbone of keeping communities alive and create jobs. There should be some ways to keep those. businesses around and succeed for the long term. Just looking around there are so many empty buildings. More each month. Soon, there will only be corporate businesses and they have real no vested interests in their communities like small businesses. Especially those businesses that have been around for decades.
Okay then if we accept that what you say then you will accept that the tragic elementary school shooting in Texas the competence of that Force that's a republican ram state so those Republicans policies of crime in Texas and so on Republicans should be held accountable as well right? The Bakery Employee is asking the right Question: What is it about the economy that is causing the businesses to lose 50% of their revenues? Well, normal people don't have the time or inclination to follow the Rube-Goldberg way our economy is built. But here is what is worst: The counter-productive monetary and fiscal policy which is driving us off the edge of the cliff; this is work of our Politicians. This week, Janet Yellen (Secretary of the Treasury) just floated a proposal that will inflationary, accelerate dollar devaluation, and negatively affect the Full Faith and Credit of the US Gov This is in response to a unstable US Treasury Market (which every economy in the world is priced off of) (e.g.the Treasury market went no bid because nobody want to buy/fund US deficits) The proposal Janet is floating out is: Treasury sells Treasury Bonds and Fed buys them E.g. create money out of thin air, and make Modern Monetary Theory official policy of the US gov. So on one hand, our illustrious government talks about how they are fighting inflation, while at the same time being inflationary by creating money out of thin air Oh, by the way, we had zero inflation month or month last month And we are not in a recession because we re-defined recession You can't make this stuff up Well, you get what you vote for.
What happens when Fed buys Treasury? The Fed's primary tool for implementing monetary policy is to buy and sell government securities in the open market. When the Fed buys (sells) U.S. Treasury securities, it increases (decreases) the volume of bank reserves held by depository institutions.
Does the Fed buy US bonds? The Fed purchased longer-term securities on the open market, including U.S. Treasuries and mortgage-backed bonds. These investments in securities (typically in the fixed income market), add liquidity and reduce borrowing costs to encourage economic activity through more lending and investment.
Where does Fed get money to buy bonds? Federal Reserve System income is derived primarily from interest earned on U.S. government securities that the Federal Reserve has acquired through open market operations.
