There's a mistake on the Mana Ko. The treads are meant to be facing the other way so it can aim downwards with its punches--easy mistake to make tho', I did the same thing when I first built it. It also makes the set easier to tip over so I prefer it to the correct version.
Good eye, you're correct! I do apologize for that. Looking at it, it certainly doesn't change my feelings on the model, but I appreciate your observation regardless!
Manas ko hand's are supposed to grab onto something and than stay closed so you only get one go per hand per game. and the tilting of the head makes it easier to grab the masks like the standard manas game
NERD!!! JK!🤪 thank u for the info...
Originally Pohatu was meant to have a third Voodoo Ball on his chest. You can actually see it in the grainy picture of him in the Akamai instructions, along with Onua's original glow in the dark eyestalk.
Kelsey Raabe Onua was to have glow-in-the-dark eyes?!
Nani?
Did they ever make the glow-in-the-dark eyes at some point?
I'd love to recreate it.
@@WakoDoodle No, unfortunately it's one of the many prototype pieces that never made it out into the wild.
@@WakoDoodle That's what 3d printing is for
This is basically how I play with Bionicle sets that I missed out on
Me too kinda
SAME
I remember using a letter opener to take out the eye stock pieces when I was a kid. Ended up cutting my fingers pretty hard an embarrassing amount of times
Imagine slicing your fingers open to build a spider, then realizing the instructions lie about which sets you need
Shockwave Geez
@@JohnWilliams-wl9px I was a reckless kid
...I am hugely impressed. I was a clumsy child with a strong jaw, and I found that my usual methods were entirely ineffective on the eyestalks.
@@clockworkkirlia7475 Ohhh trust me, when my jaw wasn't enough, I'd resort to all sorts of ridiculous solutions
@@Shockwave677 all kids did 😂
Eljay: "Getting the eye-stalk out of the head is a Herculean task"
Me, who's removed the eye-stalks easily: "Maybe I am a demigod"
You didn’t have to do this, especially after you said you wouldn’t way back.
I appreciate this so much because of that. Thank you.
I sincerely got delayed in this and have spent nearly the entirety of the last two days working on this video. Kinda messed up the back of my hand in the process. Your appreciate makes a lot of that worth it. I am super glad people have enjoyed the video, so thank you!
Not all heroes wear capes
Eljay 2013: I WONT review the Combo and Alternate Models!
Eljay 2019: Heres a review of the 2001 Combo Models
Though PLEASE say you wont review the 2007-2010 Alts/Combos the poor Lime Green Pieces.....
Also "A Kaita is made of 3 sets a Nui of 6 sets" another liar with Makuta Nui it seems
That is accurate from a lore standpoint though (Makuta Nui isn't a combiner in-universe).
2020*
@@GhabulousGhoti Did it even have any in universe appearances?
@@cowboybarbaryn1302Its super hard to get used to the fact its already 2020
@@eightcoins4401 No, but it was confirmed to be a possible form that a Makuta could take on (as they are shape-shifters).
Really wish lego re-released some bionicle characters again as part of a bionicle aniversary series.
The mc'toran would be perfect since they had a limited run and would be a good reason to remake them as a 1/2 way between the mc'donalds and movie versions.
Maybe make those throwing arms posable.
Imagine like a combo of Toa Mata + Turaga + McToran, one for each element
Those molds are long out of production. It would cost hundreds if not, thousands of dollars to bring those molds back into production. I really wish it would happen too but... yeah...
Well, we've got a system version of a mctoran-style takua now.
I’ve been on a big BIONICLE kick since I watched LEGO Rewind’s video a few days ago, so this couldn’t have come at a better time for me!
Nice new series!
Love the new intro music!
PS: 10:07 you can remove the eyesocket from a mata head with the end of a new brickseperator, still not the easiest thing to do, but it workes
You can also make a little contraption with a hand connector, a two long axle, the head and brain stalk, one of those three long beams with a pin hole in the center, and a 3+ length axle.
@Sunset's Channel you just have to put the flat end of the newer seperators (included in most big newer sets) between the transparent piece and the head
There’s a kid on UA-cam who found an easy way to remove eye stock piece. Here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/h92QZHmjjAk/v-deo.html
Imagine owning one of those brick separator pieces. ;-;
I’ve been wanting some type of combiner recap reviews since 2015- so this is amazing to see! I love the intro music too 🤩
👐👐👐FIKOU SPIDER👐👐👐
The manas combiner's hands are supposed to snap shut when it grabs onto something like a toa, mindstorms did it as well.
Now this pleases my world.
Love this! Glad to see you get to the combo models! Maybe my long awaited Ultimate Dume review will finally see the light of day?
Must've hurt putting that G2 mask in the logo.
Nope. 2015 Mask of Jungle is possibly my second favorite iteration of the Miru.
One positive thing G2 had were the sets, the sets were amazing. Especially Gali, Tahu and Kopaka 2015
I think the 2015 Mask of Jungle looks similar enough to the Miru but still looks like it fits in with the rest of G2.
Came to finally watch these after watching through Nak & Jay and hearing how much hard work you’ve been putting into them! Great work, these are all really interesting to see examined, they’re at the same time extremely bizarre and extremely fascinating
I really appreciate you making these videos - it's honestly very interesting to watch and helpful. As always, your reviews a great resource for this community. Also, the production quality is really professional and excellent!
Is it just me or does Eljay sound like he needs a drink through this entire review
It's been a long week.
Are we talking about alcohol, or he's just thirsty and needs water?
@Makuta Miserix water
On the Fikou- I believe pohatu included a third ball joint in-canister.
Yeah he did
Thank you for these amazing & detailed videos, you really add a lot to what’s left of the Bionicle community & I can’t thank ya enough
I think eljay just wanted an excuse to say "It's time to remix them!" over and over.
Dear god I pray for 2007-2008
Wow, it's taken me till this video to realize that the Matoran Kaita and Toa Kaita use the same elemental combinations in their combined forms. It's a small but nice detail that I appreciate.
Also loving the new series! It's an unexpected but pleasant surprise that you're doing each year's models in one video rather than individually. Definitely works to the series' benefit. But... WHAT ABOUT THE BOARD GAME REVIEWS!?!?!?! (joking ;) )
(Also, I've never noticed that tail on the Kuma Nui before. Neato!)
For the fikou, Pohatu Mata came with an extra voodoo ball piece. As hinted by the parts inventory in the beginning of the kaita instructions or on his canister
Yessss, I have been waiting so long for you to do reviews on the combination models (since about 2016 I think). Thank you so much for your dedication to the Bionicle/Lego fandom. I'm still slowly learning the lore behind Bionicle (G1 specifically) and have been really wanting to see what the combination models from the story look like in a review or some high definition pictures. Thanks again, Eljay! :)
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This is so awesome Eljay, great job and thanks for suffering through a couple of those builds for the greater good lol.
Also I had no idea those ball pieces were called voodoo balls. That blew my mind.
Vorovaxx
Bionicle was originally called "The Boneheads of Voodoo Island"
Yeah the third "voodoo ball" was an extra in Pohatu's set. So you'd need to OWN the set, like straight out of the canister.
Since the comment section isn't crowded, nor is COPPA a factor, I'm just going to say...
Thank you, TTV. The last four or so years, you've been a massive influence on me and despite the lowest lows, I stayed subscribed. I'm still going to support y'all in the coming decade, and hope that COPPA doesn't hamper this brilliant, and charming channel.
Not out in 2019 before the New Year? Disappointed.
In seriousness, I'm super happy to see you review these builds, especially the Kabaya ones! Looking forward to the rest of the year as these videos slowly come out.
The proper equipment for taking off the eystalk from a mata head is just a standard lego brick separator... Too bad they weren't around in 2001
I think I know how to explain about the Fikou having three ball pieces when Pohatu and Onua only have two. I think it's based upon how Pohatu originally was going to have three black ball pieces instead of two based upon the instructions for the Toa Kaita where Pohatu had three black ball pieces. I don't get why they took it out, though.
The Kahu gives me "Giant Claw" vibes.
thanks. I always enjoy watching your reviews and it's great that there's always more material for you to go over
As a kid I always just used a butter knife to pry out eyestalks. Probably not great for the plastic but I never broke anything that way.
1, yes one of the reason i want bionicle to come back is for you to do more video reviews, thanks aj for the many years of reviews i actually got my bionicle collection allmost finish thanks to you i knew wich ones i missed,
You know what? I dig it! This was a fun episode. Looking forward to more.
Well done Eljay! I was waiting for this, but I no longer need to! Nothing will beat the toa kaita for me 👍
Good video, very high quality.
That new intro tho!
Thanks so much for doing these recap reviews, they are really great!
I do appreciate that the designers fleshed out the world further with these creatures. I know for me growing up it inspired me to take apart my sets and build some wacky rahi.
I love the touches in the intro.
The only saving grace for the combo tarakava is that he can smoothly pull off that T-pose.
zoLeetvan that instantly makes it the best one
Comments are still up :3
For now...
Fitting that you would end the first video of the Year of the Rat with a rat-like Rahi. I see what you did there. :3 Also, yay, Eljay's back! I watched your Recap Reviews all the way from 2001 up until 2008 (still need to watch the 2009 reviews, maybe), and I loved every single one of them! This makes me so happy to see you've returned!
So when are we getting the McDonald's happy meal figure revjews?
So incredibly unlikely that you might as well ask eljay to host bio-tube blood sports
Augh! That intro is amazing!
Man it's been such a long time since I heard that opening theme...
I used to watch every single video
another great episode. i look forward to eljay maybe for real this time. finishing off all the bioincle reviews. i will look foward during the year for the year of the remixed reviews. this just makes me have an even longer list of items to get. but once again amazing production value and i look foward to these continuing ( got some robo rider episodes to get up to date on which ill get done soon)
Eljay isn't allowed to stop his reviews
I can stop any time I want to.... Really!
There's a trick you can use to get the eyestalks out, can't remember where I came across it, but:
- Find yourself a long axle (8L is a good one, depends on the size of your hand)
- Attach a nuva shoulder to the end with a socket piece
- Attach a 2L axle into the eyestalk and attach a mata neck piece so that the pinhole is sideways
- Attach the longer axle with the nuva shoulder on the end through the front of the mouth
- Hook your index and middle fingers around the back of the jaw of the mata head
- Use your palm to keep pushing on the nuva shoulder and drive the axle into the mata neck piece behind it
- Keep going until the eyestalk pops off
This CAN weaken the axle connection on the eyestalk over time but otherwise it's a reliable method
That Kahu looks like it needs something to eat
Comments still exist for now? Good. Anyways CHEST FOOT!!!!!1111 he can kick you without having to lift a leg
19:00 rats, rats, we're the rats.
We prey at night, we stalk at night, we're the rats.
I'm the giant rat who makes all of da rulez!
Let's see what kind of trouble we can get ourselves into.
Didn’t expect to find you here.
The third voodoo ball was included in Pohatu. It was a spare piece. Ya know, like how you always get an extra black pin, and stud and other small pieces? Still, spare pieces are not official parts of the set, so yeah. Not good.
Edit: I was wrong
@@LouieFromPikmin Yes but the Fikou uses 3.
@Benegoo Wait, really?
Ah, it was on Brickipedia I read. Of course it's inaccurate.
That was your first mistake. =P
@@TheTTVChannel My mistake was not remembering where I read it. :P
Thank you for keeping Bionicle alive.
9:50 I remember seeing the cow build in a Lego Mag. My brother and I were super excited until we saw the brainless head. We gave up on it until we got a Turaga and just used one of the brainless-heads (the Turaga's feet). We did the same thing for the fikou spider. Once we got a couple mask packs, we decided not to connect the brain pieces to the heads the set came with just in case (some are still not connected to this day).
Looking forward to watching one of these each month! Please include details about if/how each combo model was used in the story
This is awesome, always wanted to see the combos in detail
I can't wait for Ultimate Dumea and The Shadow one
im glad this video exists, thanks bro :)
This is amazing! Can’t wait for next month!
3:44 ‘It looks the kind of thing, where someone at Lego, is just about to go home and sitting at his desk, and his supervisor comes round and says: ‘Hey there I need you to build a combo model for us by the end of this shift.’ Can you do that?’ Yes! And then mashes all them up and created this.’
Eljay really stepped up his presentation with these videos
Woah, combiner/alternative model reviews
The manas ko combiner model reminds of the motorized Voodoo Head model/prototype
Getting 2001/2002 Brian stock out is hell
Never mind.
I love the price remover
At 11:25 i got an ad wgere the first word was "remix". I've never had a more fitting ad in my life
This is a great channel it should have around 150k Subs
Nice! Super happy to finally see these!
Any chance these'll include some of the weird alt models, like the Destral Cycle?
Already filmed that one.
Eljay is just like that Tarakava Nui. Just when you think it's over, it keeps going and going!
Actually, either Onua or Pohatu included a spare ball joint that could be used on the gear function instead of the grey bushing, and that's what the Fikou uses. :)
Combination sets huh,
You'd said you never review them due to the later years,
doesn't matter though i'm really excited
Lego should bring back the first 3 years of bionicle because they were the classics
Great video and a good continuation to the series.
Oh God, Tarakava Nui. I remember spending a literal ENTIRE DAY building that thing. My legs cramped soooo bad (I always sat on the floor with Lego)
One note though, later on I did figure out that if you didn't pin together the "trigger" part of the arm movement system, you can actually punch only one arm at a time. It's tricky, but doable. IF you really want that play function.
Since I got the Nui-Rama set for the first time this past month, I've re-arranged them into the Nui-Kopen and back several times. Honestly I want to get a second copy of the set just so I can keep one of them as the Nui-Rama and one as the Nui-Kopen, but switching them back and forth is half the fun.
Takua is also a combination model between jala and the nui jaga
Love the new intro!
Didn't Onua have an unused ball piece included in his set? Could've sworn he had one
Finally, these things are great. Love the intro
Wairuha: Water cycle (Lewa was originally meant to be Air if anyone didn’t know)
Akamai: A fricking volcano
I don’t think anyone here is uninformed on G1
Haha, I was literally just wondering if you'd ever do these! I haven't watched much of the new Review series', but I guess the algorithm got that psionic upgrade. Good to see that the sketches are still hilarious.
8:40 did he actually just make a jojo reference with the Toa Kaita or am I looking into the pose too much
Yes
Could you show the leftover pieces?
I considered it, however I will not be showing the leftovers.
17:26
It’s a tread dinosaur
I see dinosaur too. Like a doofy dinosaur
I had no idea that those small Rahi combiners existed! I would have loved these goofy animal creatures as a kid.
It has begun...
btw love the music Eljay very epic.
OMG that cow was a thing? Wish I knew about it in my childhood, looks great.
I'm going for a full collection of sets/collectables/combiners, and I'm nearly done my 2001 combiners. I still need the Tohunga ones (cannibalized my spare Tohunga to create other villagers), the Toa, the Kabaya Turaga (I likely won't be creating the alt forms of this one since they're all pretty much the same), and the Tarakava Nui. I think you can understand why the Tarakava have been my last Rahi to obtain a spare set of, given the abomination that they combine into.
Hope to see more of these in the future.
Nui Kopen is like the only combiner model I have on the shelf, seeing as it's both canon, but also the best combiner in my opinion
I don’t now but the part we’re the manas ko is punching got me so hard I laughed soo hard
Love the new Intro
Here we goooo again!
Wait, it’s possible to take the eyestalk out of the mata head? (Yes I know it’s extremely difficult to do so, but I’m asking if it actually is possible, because I thought it was impossible to do no matter what you tried)
I have a bit of a suggestion, I think when reviewing each model you should mention Canonicity, because I realized that I forgot whether the Matoran Kaita was canon and do know for a fact that some combo models like the Makuta Nui arent canon. So I think that information would be a cool quick addition!
That Dikapi needs a better beak/head, but the rest is pretty good! They needed to use a mask who's top part curves around (like the metru did later) but despite having masks that can do it, they probably were limited to 2 figures for the build and well... you need both of them for the body and wings, so they probably compromised.
I personally prefer the look of the Manas Prototype over the final designs. The prototypes looked more monstrous and their hands looked like actual functioning claws that could grab. Here is a picture in the link below
