Eva is really into big draft horses, one day she maybe even wants a really big one and today we were going to try out one of the tallest horse breeds..

I have always loved Percheron's and I have to say that Napoleon is an absolutely magnificent example of one. Especially his head and neck. Doesn't he have beautiful kind eyes!!
Nice to see a horse like this in good shape. Usually people believe heavier horses should be fat, but it is much healthier for any horse to be in good shape, with muscle and not to much fat..
Anne Nielsen That's what I was thinking. Someone commented he looked ill as too skinny. Just shows the lack of knowledge or just common sense doesn't it. He looks perfect to me.

the reason why he looks so good is probably because he was only gelded after having a few foals and when they stay stallions until a older age they usually don't carry much weight in their stomach, more in their shoulders and a little bit more in their butt but mostly their shoulders. the mares actually carry more weight in their lower body, their stomach and bum, and people have interacted more with mares than stallions because the stallions are just...stallions. i really hope these people used him, because the percherons REALLY need to be bred. there are only 8-10,000 worldwide

I used to ride an old Perch x Shire gelding, Dark Bay, 17.2 and I think around 860kg.He actually did Dressage when he was much younger but was mostly a school horse later on and also used as a therapy horse occasionally. Riding him really was like sitting in an armchair, and the canter was so different to when I rode things like kwpn , Irish or tbreds.He really had the temperament of a man's horse, not cuddly at all and always demanding more space and respect than most other geldings, but he had a very sharp mind, a great work ethic, and a real ability to teach anyone who rode or handled him. Sometimes he could really test people, especially the newer riders, but everyone loved him dearly. I was lucky to ride him several times a week for 2 years, and one of the last people who regularly rode him before he finally retired and passed a year later. I still count him as the horse who has taught me the most so far 💗

He's very muscular, and has large feet and a big head. However I have to wonder as to the girl's height, because her feet seemed to be around the appropriate placement. Maybe he is just wide? She did kind of insinuate that she is tall when she said she never looks small around horses. I'm curious how a draft horse rides, now.
Sophia Eventing Morgans are kinda average for the riding world. Not sure how old this guy is or his height, but I bet he's bigger and stronger than even a good size Friesian and they can hit 17 hands.

Percherons were originally short and stocky and could go all day working. Now like everything else (especially in USA) bigger is better. My Percheron was 16.2 hands, very small compared to the 18 hands that everyone wants. She was wonderful!
Aw percherons are so sweet and big! I used to go to a ranch that had percherons and they were so sweet and patient!

I Absolutely Love Percherons! I was lucky enough to have two beautiful black Percheron mares at my university, UC Davis! I was even one of the students in charge of running our draft horse and driving club. It was such a wonderful experience and really made me fall in love with draft horses
I actually work with percherons during the Christmas season! We do sleigh rides and they're very hardworking and intelligent horses 😊
Yay!! Drafts are the best!!! I've rescued many Belgians, and they are truly gentle. Napoleon has a very kind eye. "If it's not a draft, it's just a horse."
It was such a wonderful surprise to see you, Eva, on a horse, because in your friend's videos you are only walking. While Napoleon is tall, you appear to have height also. To learn more about Percheron horses is exciting. Where I grew up, Brookfield Wisconsin, there was a six horse hitch of Belgian horses and I would see them every day as I went to school. Now living in Arlington Virginia I see Arlington National Cemetery's caisson horses periodically. My dream would to ride a Lipizzaner as my Mum talked about watching them train after WW2 while stationed in Vienna. Somedays I wish I could ride again... Cheers, Eva!

oh my gosh I saw and was able to pet- scratch a percheron gelding at a house I was looking to buy. OH MY GOSH he was Gi-normous. He was absolutely massive. Taller than this one and black. Love them!!!!! So glad you got to see one. They are worth seeing in "person".

I had a Percheron x TB gelding. He was jet black. He was very comfortable and we used to ride him side saddle. He would shuffle up to a big five barred gate in a sloppy trot and just pop over it. We couldn’t keep him in any field, but he didn’t go anywhere!!

I love the draft horses, so calm and steady and kindly. Feels when riding like you are doing the sideways splits though.

I have ridden 2 percherons, one of which was a physical therapy horse and the other was an amish farm horse. I was bucked by the farm horse, but she was quite upset at what she had done and came back to ask if I was okay after! haha We then went for a nice gallop across my aunt's field. It does feel a lot like riding a giant rocking chair when they move anywhere from canter to full-speed. It's beautiful. They are such sweet, gentle beasts.

I used to own a Percheron, quarter horse mix mare. Most versatile, calm, gentle, smartest horse I've ever had. They are A LOT of fun. I did show jumping, barrel racing, pole bending, Western pleasure, and hunt seat pleasure with her. Never got sick, never wore shoes. Easy keeper. I will one day get another Percheron mix.

I rode a full Belgian draft for a little while. . .most comfortable horse ever. My mare is half Belgian, half TB. She got the big feet and bone of the Belgian, but the spirit of the TB. You need a drafty Eva! I'm so sorry to hear Napoleon passed away. :(

My friend's horse whom I've been riding every week is a percheron mixed with a QH! He gets the lovely face and big legs of the Percheron, and he's a grey paint tobiano!

When I was younger there was a white percheron horse in the neighbourhood, tucked away behind an old barn. The owner was an old man (in his 90s) that couldnt care/ exersize for her properly. Whispers was HUGE, hooves big as plates, I could just touch her shoulder when I stretched ny arm out and her back was about a meter wide. But she was a giant sweetheart that would come racing across the field when she saw me and my friend, who took over her care. About 7 years ago the owner passed away and whispers disappeared. I'll always remember her. Ive since never seen a horse so big and powerfull, and I dont think I ever will.
So happy to see this video! The horse of my life was a Percheron cross, I lost him a year ago, and still miss him more than I can explain. Percherons were at one time crossed with Arabs, and you can often see it in their more refined head, and their snappy gait, different than other drafts. They are called GENTLE GIANTS for a reason, if well treated they don’t have a mean bone in their bodies. My guy weighed 1580 lbs and stood 17.3 hands. They make excellent dressage prospects.

What a beautiful, extremely well cared for horse! It's amazing to see the gentle nature in a horse of that size. The skill of the rider has a lot to do with it, no doubt.

We waren een paar jaar terug op een camping in Frankrijk en daar hadden ze ook 2 prachtige percherons die ook echt werden gebruikt voor het houthakken en het slepen van de bomen. Dat waren echte krachtpatsers!
Owned a beautiful black Percheron for 21 years...the most wonderful horse and ride. I showed her dressage and western and her specialty was trail riding...she loved it! Unfortunately I lost her in December 2018 we believe to complications of Lymes Disease. Hardest thing I’ve ever done to see her for the last time and my heart is still breaking.

Percherons are everywhere in America! A very popular breed here. Used by a lot of people as work horses! You cannot drive anywhere in my area without driving by a field with a team of Percherons hooked to a plow, working hard!
My neighbors used to have two 18+hand Percherons and they were incredible! Such gentle giants. 😍
