OnePlus Open Honest Review - In this video we discuss everything you need to know before deciding if the OnePlus Open is for you! OnePlus Open is now live for pre-order with an open sale tomorrow 10/26/2023 and it goes for $1699 or $1499 with a $200 discount on any smartphone, you can also do higher value trade-in to reduce the price further! Share your thoughts, questions, and comments, and enjoy the video :)
Never settle... except for wireless charging and IPx8 water resistance. 😂 But seriously, FedEx just delivered mine... can't wait to dive in and see if it can replace my Pixel Fold. 🤞🏻
Great phone review! You take the time to open apps and show the nuances of the OnePlus Open, such as the different settings and system apps. You speak and use the phone at the same time, which allows you to show the interface, animations, etc. I've seen a lot of videos for the OnePlus Open because I'm considering buying it, but given the price, I want to be sure. Your video is one of the best I've seen. Most videos just show B-roll footage of the phone sitting on a table doing nothing.
Thanks for sharing your feedback! I try to give as much detail and show as much as I can in the shortest time possible but also delivering all the details! Glad you enjoyed the review!
It does have tent mode, play a video, and then set it down in tent mode. There is a setting to help with the fingerprint sensitivity as well. I just wish it had wireless charging.
Neat trick: go into the camera mode where you use the cover screen to preview the shot, then swipe up to go to your home screen. Kind of a hack to use the front screen while the phone is unfolded.
I pre-order also I'm trying to get information about the trade-in because it says within 30 days for the offer but my phone doesn't come till November 23rd so if I trade my phone in I will have no phone
Same here! The Fold 5 was a boring update. Excited about this one even if I think it is a risk being their first entry(Oppo's experience with foldables helped push me over the edge to do it!)
Few days ago we were talking about smartphone technology came to a saturation point and we can hold a smartphone 3 to 4 year without loosing so much functionality, but after release of one plus fold and watching Qualcomm summit , 8 gen 3, also 8 gen 4 with that orion architecture, its like damn! What I was talking about?
this is a amazing foldable but don't know why you said this phone is arguably better then the competition uh noooo the fold 5 is the best foldable phone of 2023. the one plus open is the second best foldable i have seen all the foldables that are out and if you say point out every foldable and what feature that sets each foldable apart from the rest. the fold 5 is the only foldable that truly has standout features and thats s pen support and samsung dex not to mention the fold 5 has the best software optimization of any foldable
Like samsung phone have Samsung pay where you can use your phone as a card and pay anywhere by NFC touch. Does one plus have started with the same, atleast in one plus open ??
Just received my unit and ok with it. The hardware is great. Although, the UI is a bit basic compared to Samsung. Haven't had much else to complain about besides the fact i must go to a 3rd party for insurance. Lastly, the trade in deals are slim to none. Great review, btw. PS. Limited phone cases 😅
Convenient how people havent mentioned app optimisation on the inside screen. Its a more rectangular screen, so qpps like social media will surely look stretched?
I have never had a foldable before but I ordered the Open last night after a few drinks. If i trade in my OnePlus 11 its basically $850 with the one year replacement service included. Im stoked and as an AV technician at a university I am beyond stoked that it has an IR blaster!
Thanks for the info and the review Nick! I personally like the fact that the OnePlus Open is sort of a nice middle ground between the Samsing Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Google Pixel Fold.
Every new 'Flagship' that comes out, I always want to know what Nick thinks about it. All because his reviews are honest and he covers all the essentials. Great review. Ive never tried a 'Folding phone' thinking of trading in my S23 Ultra for this, because anyways I will go in for the S24 Ultra when that phone is released.
Great review, it does look a stunning bit of kit, the photos look impressive as well, the zoom performance looks great. I've got one arriving tomorrow, very excited about it! This will be replacing a Pixel Fold.
I'm a Z Fold5 user and I pre-ordered the Oppo Find N3 (its Oppo equivalent) just for the software experience alone. That multitasking is the real deal man
Would you consider selling this? I have never owned a foldable, as a matter of fact never owned an android and would love to try it. Appreciate the content from you my brother
Wdym it's looks beautiful are u on 144p Or smt 💀 or do u mean the boat image it's the 120x zoom the more u zoom the blurry it gets everything looks beautiful in every photo expect for the boat part ofc
@@venom0366 Not sure if you're serious but starting at 18:54, all of those pictures are blurry. I'm definitely watching on 1080p and compared to other OnePlus Open videos, the photos here look horrible so I'm not sure if the author used the wrong camera setting or something.
They are not blurry these photos were taken in fully automatic mode. I didn’t tweak a single setting besides a turning the grid lines and level on. These images with the boat and a few others where I zoomed past 6x go into a digital zoom and produced more grainy results because they are past the optical range. This phone takes excellent photos that are sharp and color accurate.
Would you please tell me about that white banner and the info on it (OnePlus Open, Hasselblad ecc) at the bottom of the pictures you have taken. Is it a preset mode for the photos app? Do we have the option to don't have that white space wkth those info on it ? Sorry, I have never had a OnePlus before and I ordered the phone, so I'm very curious about it. Thank you! Great review!!!
Hello there! This is a watermark and you can place the watermark on your photos if you like in the camera settings when in the camera app, you can also take it off if you don't like it. I enabled this so you could see what camera was used during this review! That's awesome that you ordered! I think you will love this device! Thank you for watching the review! Appreciate you!
I'm super conflicted on this one. I got mine today. I've been on the fold 5. I don't like the software but I love the feel and look of that hinge and way better than that of the z fold 5. 👽
I didn’t love the software at first, but take some time to customize your icons and system and give it a shot for a few days you might come to be okay with it. The hinge is quite good on this one 👍🏻
it's a amazing phone but its not better then the fold 5 every fold that comes out everyone says its gonna be better then the fold no its not what sets the fold apart is s pen support and samsung dex and amazing software
@raifordkenneth15 Some will say that the Oppo Open has pen support. Probably the same people who have been whining about the Z Fold not housing the pen internally, but now they're willing to pay $140+ for a pocket pen. But suddenly, that's not a deal-breaker for them. 😏
We all have different opinions and to me this device is head and shoulders above the ZF5. Of course Samsung excels in some areas. I came from a ZF4 to the Open and I'm not going back unless there are significant changes.
Unfortunately, here in Europe, the Oneplus Open is MORE expensive than the competition. Current price is about 300 euro more than the 512GB Samsung Galaxy Fold 5. So much for this first try on a Fold flagship killer. What I read about it, it's arguably not selling well here
Huh I put mine on order last week UK based sold out already. Got it for 1500 one hundred pounds off and free earbuds. Z fold 5 1850 pounds for the 250 gb version.
@@kevinjones3900 Yes, last week they were still in preorder discount, but now it's up to the regular price again. Anyway, I was talking about EU prices.
Had a galaxy fold 3. Returned it after a month when I had micro cracks on the mid screen. I would love to get this phone. But that is my only concern with fordable phones.
why do people care about wireless charging so much... its slower and worse for the battery since it makes the phone hotter cable eill charge so much faster
Replying to a disappeared posting abt lack of wireless charging: Yah thanks for pointing it out. Should have been mentioned for a balance report. For those not aware, wireless charging for other foldable phones is standard at 50W, so just taking minutes longer than the wired charging at 67W. And it is very convenient too, just put the phone onto the cradle, no need to fiddle with the cable and plugging in. Just a much more comfortable way to do charging. And it is also why this phone is lighter than the competitors, sacrificing a useful feature. That is also why Magic V2/V2s and Find N3 can be lighter. So is up to consumers to decide if this is what they want. What you want does not mean other users will prefer it that way.
Samsung fold Z fold 5 has 15w wireless charging (133 minutes for a full charge) Pixel fold has a whopping 7,5w wireless charging AND a bigger battery than Samsung so we are probably talking more than 4 hours for a charge... so it can't be these state of the art flagship folding phones you think of, when you say that wireless charging is standard 50 watts on folding phones?
Personally I prefer faster wired charging and lighter and slimmer body. Wireless charging I gotta spend more for the base which is more expensive than cables, it's slower and runs hotter than wired, I can't use it while charging, and I am okay with fiddling for cable; I guess I'm just use to it since I've never used or cared about wireless charging due to aforementioned points. But I assume for many that are already use to wireless charging, use it frequently and already have accessories that use wireless charging, then it is a bummer not to include.
The only advantage of wireless charging is that if you are in a Starbucks or any other hospitality outlet where the table you are sitting at has built in wireless charging than you can top your battery up. It useful when you are on holiday somewhere and you use your phone for navigating and taking photos a lot, so the 4-5-6 hours of screen on time does not mean a "full day of battery" for you, but rather a half day. But in everyday use it's generally slower (neither of Apples, Samsungs or Googles) phones support fast wireless charging - they don't even go above 45W wired - and as others called out, besides being slow wireless charging generates more heat, which is bad for your battery health. I would never use wireless charging to give my phone a full charge, the only use-case scenario as mentioned is either in a restaurant or in your car for a top up - but that won!t be fast either as you have to keep it on the plate for 20-30 minutes for about a 20% top up...
@@laszlosohajda7897 For foldable phones from China, a few already supprted 50W wireless, which is only a tad slower than 67W wired. I am not sure about their availabilities in your country thus the lack of awareness. Fold 5 wireless only 15W iirc thus very slow. Anyway to each his own. I only think it is right to be transparent about it.
I was replying to a posting and could not get it sent. Then I gave up, and after checking, realised that the posting has just disappeared! Seems here can only post the good stuff.
You settle because no Water resistance and no wireless charging in 2023! I Love how the rear Camera looks and the bice green. But Im glad i have my Pixel Fold. Great Cameras, wireless charging, great multitasking, and better front screen as it is still the widest. Which means Flex mode is bigger screen.
i think it's implied that every review is honest. Not sure why people see the need to put "honest" in the title. I have yet to see a youtube review titled "dishonest review".
Just got mine today and theres quite a bit i dont like about it not the least of which is no 5g there isnt even an option for 5g in the settings. It will go back unless they can resolve this
Yes S23 U is one of brightest and best display. i see pixel 8pro vs S23 U and S23 U is brighter i dont understand how others " cheating" they specs and they but numbers what is not true in practice 😂 i keep this S23 U and waiting One ui 6 stable ❤️
Nah man, you can't get your phone from a manufacturer and then call this an "honest review". For it to be honest you gotta spend your own buck. Otherwise you'll be filtering what you say so you don't get blacklisted. Keep it real, man.
I'm not understanding why all the reviewers want Samsung to change their design. It's like telling OnePlus and pixel to change their design as well. The one-handed operation of Samsung is awesome to those that want or need that one-handed, OneUi, form. Software is better and plus Google and OnePlus will be the same for years also.😮
Because is so easy be critical without think first. It's like the cars. 20 years ago all of them been different with their own personality, now if you see almost all cars has the same design unless lights and not much more. Just think for example in 2001 the seat leon, ford focus, old mercedes a class, or seat ibiza for put few examples, and see the same models now 🤷🏻♂️
@@andyhookigs4586 It feels a bit hypocritical for you to say this, as I feel like you've prejudged and haven't understood why people don't like the narrow outer screen. Many have come from and are more use to the traditional, wider slab phones mainly found in the market today, or many aren't concerned about one-handed use (or their one handed use is fine on wider phones). Also, images/videos are tiny on the outer screen when they don't want to use inner, many say it's difficult to type on because of its narrowness, and sometimes app compatibility issues.
@@andrewbui1351 first look in the dictionary what is hypocritical, because i could be like that if i am critical with someone for example and i am like that person who i am critical with. Another example is if i am critical with someone who cheats the partner and i do the same. But in this case i am only telling that each manufacturer works different. Someone can like more Samsung style or one plus, or iPhone for example, but that's not reason for to be critical telling that someone can learn from the another. And what i said about the cars is absolutely true. I am working with cars 20 years and inclusive without work in them absolutely anyone can see the difference between the 20 years ago cars all different and much before like Renault 21, Peugeot 405 or Citroen BX that being same kind of car were absolutely different. Can you tell the same today?? Starting with that before in the same brand each car was absolutely different. For example in Citroen the Ax, the BX or XM all of them were different inside and outside. Can you tell me the same with BMW for example in the from of the cars or inside today more far than small differences????
@@andyhookigs4586I'm pretty sure I'm using the right word, because you are doing the same thing when you say 'Because is so easy be critical without think first' by not putting any thought into why they don't like Samsung's narrow outer screen. The only benefit I see for the narrow outer screen is the one-handed use/reachability, but if Samsung were to provide another benefit, such as being the lightest/slimmest bookstyle foldable, due to have the smallest inner/outer screen and battery size out of the bookstyle foldables, I would definitely prefer Samsung's narrow outer/inner screen. I have no idea about cars so I can't give my opinion on that. But I can guess that maybe because when one product has a positive feature that consumers like, other companies will follow and replicate that feature/trend, until all products from various companies become similar to the point where it is hard to distinguish or choose from one from another.
The hype is justified because it provides what people have been not liking from other foldable smartphones, light weight, good cover screen, low crease visibility, flagship cameras

Pixel Fold is nice as well. Thanks for sharing your take!
Pixel fold is terrible
@@helterskelzer3883 no it's not. I doubt you own one lol 🤣
@@ronbrooks6547 it really is
i think it's implied that every review is honest. Not sure why people see the need to put "honest" in the title. I have yet to see a youtube review titled "dishonest review".
I don’t believe a lot of UA-cam reviews are honest, that’s why I title it this way.
@@morenickackerman Fair enough. You aren't the only one who has, just so happens it was your page where I made the comment.
incrível 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤗🤗
Just got mine today and theres quite a bit i dont like about it not the least of which is no 5g there isnt even an option for 5g in the settings. It will go back unless they can resolve this
There is. You just got no clue where. Mobile network --> SIM1 --> Primary network 5G/4G/3G/2G (Auto) or whatever it is in your country.
why s23 ultra still brighter??? if only 1750nits
Yes S23 U is one of brightest and best display. i see pixel 8pro vs S23 U and S23 U is brighter i dont understand how others " cheating" they specs and they but numbers what is not true in practice 😂 i keep this S23 U and waiting One ui 6 stable ❤️
That's a good question
Beautiful.🙂
Why does everyone dont notice the C to A adapter inside the box😂
Oh I noticed that I just didn’t mention it
Nice
I love one plus
I really like this phone. Im a Samung girl.
I just feel like the shots are too soft, but maybe I've been using Samsung phones for too long lmao.
I got this for $507 with fold 5 trade in
When the dishonest review coming out ?
Bible widget ✊🏿
The Bible says that Jesus is not white
Nah man, you can't get your phone from a manufacturer and then call this an "honest review". For it to be honest you gotta spend your own buck. Otherwise you'll be filtering what you say so you don't get blacklisted. Keep it real, man.
Actually I can man because I am not following a script this is the same things I would say and feel had I bought it man.
It’s unfortunate that the one plus never holds its value
Couple months the selling price is gonna cut below 50% off
So I’d wait
Review? It's more like a lecture 😂
Ir blaster
Do people really care about the unboxing experience?
This. If the OnePlus is so perfect, why does everyone want Samsung to build it? 😏🤔
No wireless charging, no water resistance, no reverse wireless charging, no 4k@60fps on the front camera, no pen support. Never Settle? Really?
Icon shapes and folder shapes are different 👎👎
I think the phone is good but its way over hyped its not that different than samsung
Samsung still has the upper edge with being more premium
The hype is justified because it provides what people have been not liking from other foldable smartphones, light weight, good cover screen, low crease visibility, flagship cameras
This phone has alot of what power users want.
This is an excellent device and has set the bar for form factor and performance.
The phone WILL develop a crease in time. Samsung gives u the expected crease out the box.😢
Lol no
tryout for $1400.00
Big deal
Pixel Fold buyers are literally kicking themselves in the head now.
