I'd want to determine the reason the lever popped out to begin with -- and correct it. Worn part? Out of adjustment? Something bent or damaged or missing?

I have the same mower my lever on the right hand side for the clutch blade will push down and gets the blade roating just fine but that plastic lever just comes up and won't stay down?

My belt keeps slipping off my pulley and I’m not sure what is causing that. It’s getting worse and worse (happening more frequent, quicker). Does the belt just need replaced?

Do you have a belt size Part Number? The belt looked very loose. Thanks

My drive knob was still there but that spring was gone. Had to order the spring from John Deere.

I had to replace that very same spring on all three of my John Deere's over the last 25 years. The John Deere part # is M92029 for those that are curious.

I dont understand what engages the that clutch arm. The spring seems to hold it in neutral. Is there something on the body that pushes on it to engage it when you rotate the gearbox ? I think i have a part missing.

The clutch control cable attaches to the clutch arm which should protrude above the deck when properly assembled. This acts against the below deck spring. There is a spring at the end of the clutch cable that attaches to the clutch arm. When dissembling and reassembling it is easy to accidentally bend the control arm so that it can bind on reassembly, so watch out for this too.

any thoughts on why my belt always releases and gets out of the pulley? I replaced the belt with a replacement one (original finally snapped) and this replacement one is routinely slipping off the pulley.

An incorrect size belt or misaligned belt guide could be the culprits. See the description for the correct belt part number. Look for any bent belt guides. A stick getting caught in the belt could bend a guide.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. The only non-factory modification is I had to jury rig a strap for the starter battery from coat-hanger wire after the original strap broke. The battery hasn't been installed for some time since the mower starts up easily enough manually.
