Such a great video! I only have knit the Oslo hat by Petite Knit so I can't speak to her garment patterns. However, I totally get looking for other designers that seem to take a more basic pattern and just elevate it in some way. My last two garments were new-to-me designers and I had so much success with them that I'm excited to knit more from them because the fit was so great.

Oh I love the substitution ideas. I think an additional video on some "funkier" patterns of classic models would be great too. 😊

Just found your channel. I feel pretty much the opposite. My style is very minimalistic so I often dislike any "special details" that designers put in to make their patterns different/stand out. I knit A LOT and I do knit from many other designers on a regular basis but I often find that I like Petiteknit's version of a garment the best. It's about the simplicity and the fit. And her designs tend to fit my body perfectly. To me her designs are understated, effortless everyday style/chic. I don't love all her patterns but many. Luckily there is so much choice so everyone can find and knit what they like! I am sure some other knitters find my pieces absolutely boring but that is fine the same way that it is ok for me to knot like theirs. As long as we are being kind and are not hurting anyone feelings! 😊

Hi, thank you for sharing your thoughts so kindly. It's great to hear that you enjoy her patterns and that they fit into your wardrobe so well. Its as you say that knitting has so much choice for everyone to find designs that suit their own personal style. For me, its all about finding pieces that give me joy both in the making and wearing. Enjoy your knitting! 🥰

Thank you. I totally agree. Never made a design of hers. Its great that so many people got into knitting through PK patterns ... consider exploring my patterns 😊

I am 100% in agreement with you. No shade on PetiteKnit, but I’ve been there and done that, and it will be a long time (if ever) before I choose to knit another basic stockinette tee-shirt on 3mm needles. Considering that the designer has inspired thousands and thousands of project pages on Ravelry, I’m sure she’ll continue to prosper despite my defection. Thanks for your thoughts on this topic.

Thank you for your videos - I love them. Can you tell us about the cross stitch one day? I’m knitting the direction loop sweater -coloured stripes version😊

I feel I must challenge you about your focus in this podcast on not choosing petite knit patterns. I don’t know if you’ve been offended by her in someway or by her patterns but that is the only reason I can see why you would spend most of your podcast in dissing petite knit for meeting a market need/desire for basic knitwear designs. While I like so many have bought her patterns, I’ve spent as much and more on others. I understand your efforts to encourage others to explore new and funky patterns but I don’t think you needed to highlight her designs for criticism. I’m disappointed

Hi, thank you for sharing your thoughts. My intention with this video was to initially highlight how much I love the knits I have made by PetiteKnit but that as my journey in the knitting world progressed I learned more about my own personal style preferences. The fact that I personally haven't made a PetiteKnit pattern for a while doesn't mean I won't ever make one again. Even within the few years I've been knitting my style has changed and at the moment the things I am attracted towards are a little "funkier", but I may at some point migrate back to PetiteKnit. There are so many incredible designers and patterns out there and deciding on one to knit is so hard as I wish I could make them all. The opinions I expressed are subjective and based on my own personal style choices and patterns that make me excited. I hope you find joy in all your knits ❤

Petite knit patterns are very unflattering. Look like maternity wear or wearing a trash bag. Also representative of a designer not knowing how to properly size and slope the pattern for example, so its not all bunchy near underarms which most designers dont seem to know how to do. By people buying these patterns you allow the continuation of mediocre designs.

@@user-kp1ju5mx7h I bet other designers would love for their mediocre designs to be that successful.

@purlsbeforethyme I find that you expressed your critique in a polite and objective manner and it always worries me that everyone becomes so sensitive when someone expresses a simple opinion about taste especially because it's just knitting.

Did you watch the whole video. She doesn’t appear to be offended or dissing. She says how much h she wears the ones she’s made. But she enjoys patterns with more design interest or unique elements, which is true of many knitters. She doesn’t say it’s wrong to like petite knits but I like that she highlights alternatives. For those of us who like to try new techniques or be challenged, then I’m with the presenter. No shade to you if you prefer the comfort of a standardised approach. Goodness, she clearly says how grateful she is to petiteknits for fostering her love of knitting.
