As a Vikings fan, this season has been magical and they've won so many games with so many clutch plays and unbelievable moments. As for the point differential and stats, it honestly fits this team and their history, that they make absolutely no sense as to how they fail. However this time, it's how they've been able to succeed, and how they'll hopefully succeed farther than any Vikings team before them. SKOL!!!
I came up with a stat that evaluates teams over the regular season, and ran it on every team since 1941. It found the Vikings to be the best team over the regular season four times (1969, 1970, 1988, and 1998). It finds the team this year to be slightly below average statistically, but not terrible.
@@ckendall67 Looking at the 98 team, they were amazing offensively (Moss, Carter, and Jake Reed in particular), and above average on defense overall (most prominently John Randle in the interior). But arguably only average for who they played against the run. In the 98 NFC Championship Game, that run defense had to face Jamal Anderson, a guy who had over 1800 yards rushing on 4.8 yards a carry. In the context of the actual NFC championship game, the Gary Anderson missed field goal cost them, as did Chuck Smith’s strip sack on Randall Cunningham before the end of the first half. But if they had a better run defense, then they may have taken Atlanta even with miscues like those. As for the other three that show up on top by my stat for a regular season: The 1969 Vikings had a darn good offense (most points in the NFL that year, Joe Kapp was a decently efficient game manager, and they had a couple pro bowl linemen and Gene Washington was a pro bowl receiver), and a defensive season that is probably as good on that end as the 98 team was on offense (in particular, all four defensive linemen made the pro bowl, they had the all time interception leader Paul Krause, and their two cornerbacks Bobby Bryant and Earsell Mackbee combined for 14 interceptions). The Vikings would have a similarly prolific season statistically in 1970 with Gary Cuozzo (who had been Kapp’s backup) at quarterback. The 69 team lost Super Bowl 4 to Kansas City, and the 70 team lost to MVP John Brodie and San Francisco in the divisional round. And as for the 1988 Vikings, they essentially had the same roster who knocked out the 49ers in 1987. On offense they had a serviceable quarterback in Wade Wilson who on lower volume was third in passer rating in 1988, a couple very good linemen in Hall of Famers Gary Zimmerman and Randall McDaniel, the latter a rookie, a very solid receiving corps in Anthony Carter, tight end Steve Jordan, and Hassan Jones, and an inefficient running game, but one that was good for touchdowns. This was the Vikings team that preceded the Herschel Walker trade. That trade wasn’t justified at all, but when I look at their roster, I can see why they did it. On defense the 88 team was very good. They had a defensive tackle who was a year away from being named defensive player of the year in Keith Millard, a Hall of Fame defensive end in Chris Doleman, a pro bowl middle linebacker in Scott Studwell, a first team all pro safety in Joey Browner, and another pro bowl cornerback in Carl Lee. In particular, this defense held the opponents they faced to a passer rating of about 25 points lower than their average. One of the highest totals ever, and they allowed a passer rating of about 41. The lowest total of the 80’s. After beating the Rams in the first round, these Vikings lost to San Francisco in the divisional round, and in one of the most overlooked performances of his career, Joe Montana put up a passer rating of over 100 against that same defense that held its regular season opponents to 41. Minnesota hasn’t been great in the playoffs save for a few moments, but they have played some very good, often overlooked regular seasons, including those four.
As a very passionate Vikings fan, I just want to thank you KTO for making this perfectly made video and breaking it down. There were so many games where my heart rate was way higher than it needed to be but its weird. We aren't a team that other teams will fear but you definitely don't want to keep us in a game.. also, that Buffalo game this season never gets old.
As a huge Vikings fan, the past few years have been tough, but I would love to see us make a run, especially with the emotional roller coaster this year
From a Giants fan the Vikings definitely showed up in clutch time this year, that 61 yarder was on the money. I know that either way our rematch is gonna be a highly interesting one to watch no matter the outcome
That was the most objective and accurate assessment of the Vikings I've seen all season. Most media and content on the Vikings is skewed and trash. This was spot on. Well done. SKOL Vikes!
I knew they weren't going to do anything in the playoffs when I saw that point differential. They even got best case scenario by playing the giants who also have a negative point differential and still got bounced
I feel that no matter how this season ends for them, there's no denying that this 2022 Vikings team was special for the reasons outlined in this video, and gave us some of the most captivating football content we've seen in recent years.
I'm a Giants fan too, & honestly, this game could go either way. They played a pretty tight game in Week 16, Vikings won it of course on that 61-yd FG but the Giants hung around. Could see a similar type of game in the WC round. If that happens, the G-Men might stand a good chance. But Vikings are slight favorites, their 13-4 record isn't anything to snitch at, and they're capable of winning close games as they've displayed this season. Either way, it should be an interesting game for sure.

Fun Fact about the Vikes: They are the best franchise to never win a Super Bowl. They’ve been there 4 times and coming up short of the big game around a dozen times.
The Vikings defense is somehow even worse than their points allowed per game would suggest. They give up 5.9 yards per play which is T-3rd worst in the league, and 6608 yards overall on the year which is 2nd-worst.
There was a tweet before the final Bears game that said if one of their receivers got 1400 yds in that last game, he'd break the single season record. All I could think was "That's probably possible against our defense".

This season is truly crazy! Great video by kto!! Keep up the good work!!🔥
Born n raised in Jacksonville. Now live in Minneapolis. Jags fan for life. Proxy Vikings fan. This season was wild.
"Odin alone would chose the day they would enter Valhalla"
Season in a nutshell.
@@fortynights1513 That '98 Vikings team probably should have won the Super Bowl that season. But I guess we all know how that ended.
As for the other three that show up on top by my stat for a regular season:
The 1969 Vikings had a darn good offense (most points in the NFL that year, Joe Kapp was a decently efficient game manager, and they had a couple pro bowl linemen and Gene Washington was a pro bowl receiver), and a defensive season that is probably as good on that end as the 98 team was on offense (in particular, all four defensive linemen made the pro bowl, they had the all time interception leader Paul Krause, and their two cornerbacks Bobby Bryant and Earsell Mackbee combined for 14 interceptions).
That's one Beautiful catch by Jefferson in the outro!!!
Amazing summary!!! And that catch will stand the rest of time.
As a very passionate Vikings fan, I just want to thank you KTO for making this perfectly made video and breaking it down. There were so many games where my heart rate was way higher than it needed to be but its weird. We aren't a team that other teams will fear but you definitely don't want to keep us in a game.. also, that Buffalo game this season never gets old.
excellent content, as always. 👊
This video aged well I think. RIP 2022 Vikings
I feel that no matter how this season ends for them, there's no denying that this 2022 Vikings team was special for the reasons outlined in this video, and gave us some of the most captivating football content we've seen in recent years.
14 very entertaining and drama filled games and 3 pathetic displays.
coming from minnesota and being a vikings fan my whole life... yah. just yah. life of a vikings fan.
As a Giants fan, I wish the Vikings good luck in our game against them.
As a Vikings fan, I wish the Vikings good luck in our game.

Thanks, g. Hope your guys stay healthy 🙏🏻
@@ckendall67 thanks, but as a Vikings fan your G Men will be watching the playoffs from the couch after they lose to the Vikings.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👌💤💤
Love your videos, love the song at the end! Great job, sir!
As a Vikings fan it can be stressful. You turn off a game cause you’re down by 33 next thing you know you’re in overtime
To be fair, MIN did pull off some of the most miraculous [call it what you may] endings to a game in one single season. Any other fortune (or misfortune) would have them ATLEAST 3 games down in the win column, so this analysis is quite fun to think about
as a vikings fan i have had so many heartattacks this season
As a Vikings fan, this has been fun but 1998 and 2016 was Better. They had better Defenses both years and had many convincing wins!
@@jimnfl7134 yeah I would agree on that
@@GoVikings21 Find NFL Rellated Videos (1 Bills Hype, Greatest NFL Comeback, Worst Super Bowls) Jay Leno Headlines and more iny My Channel. I meant 2017 Season!
Craziest season I’ve ever witnessed as a Vikes fan! From watching the bills game to being at the colts biggest comeback, it’s been a ride. If Minnesota manages to stay in the game til the 4th during the playoffs I like our odds
We are now in (effectively) Week 19, and I'm still not sure how good my Vikings are lmao
You are the perfect man to do a video on Brock Purdy and his story
It's as been the most Rollercoaster kind of year I've ever watched as a vikings fan I don't if my heart can handle this anymore 😂
The last minute of KTOs videos are always the best
14 interceptions being your career high is not bad at all, tbh
When you're normally a game manager like Cousins is it is.
@@ryanchase9332 What does that term mean, and why is Cousins one?
@@fortynights1513 a game manager is a QB who well, manages games. His job isn't to win games, but instead to not lose them. It generally refers to a QB who is good enough to be a starter, but doesn't elevate the team in a way which an elite QB would.
Kirk Cousins is definitely one of the better game management QBs, but he's rarely ever if at all in the conversation of "best QBs in the league".
Kirk cousins throws a ton of passes a year even as a game manager.
@@kneesnap1041 I typically see him ranked above the middle, but not by much.
So most good game managers are probably around 10th-16th in the league I’d take it?
The outro song with the Jefferson catch is such a fire combo
So happy to be a Vikings fan
I've been a Vikings fan since '97, and I've never seen a team so frustrating, yet fun to watch. My series of emotions through a single game ranges from firing everyone to confirming we're gonna be Super Bowl Champs. Nothing makes sense- can't wait to see how it all plays out.
They're playing 5D football.
Being born and raised in Minnesota, I know better than to get my hopes up about a Minnesota sports team. But wow have they been fun to watch at least
I just turned 50 and have been a Vikings fan since conception. In the end, I'm disappointed but not surprised. This is the history of Minn men's pro sports since 1991.
This is my first season being a Vikings fan and I just realized this season is CRAZY.
Fun Fact about the Vikes: They are the best franchise to never win a Super Bowl. They’ve been there 4 times and coming up short of the big game around a dozen times.
@@LateNightTableCo They’ve made a conference championship game at least once in each decade of their existence technically.
@@fortynights1513 they are the only team to have done this.
Just now?!🤣
Outro music never fails to get me HYPE!!
Points allowed is 28th, or 5th worst, which isn't far off either stat you mentioned.
Last year we were criticized for not peforming in 1 score games. They said we were not a "clutch" team. This year its the opposite and now we are lucky!
This was spot on as yesterday proved all too well.
Incredible video, best analysis I’ve seen, tells the story for what they are, well done!
“How did the Vikings finish 13-4” -I have no absolute clue
KTOOOOOOOOO!!! Another banger. I've been wondering wtf is the deal with the Vikes in how you never know which version would show up on Sunday. I like the stats too. Interesting moving forward.
Additionally, it's a privilege to watch Justin Jefferson play football man. Dude is literally ballin out of control lol. He keeps this up he'll be one the best to ever, ever do it. Can't imagine the truck load needed to deliver his bag when contract talk comes time
11 one score wins isn’t a coincidence. That’s great situational coaching, perfect for the playoffs.
How is being within a single score against terrible/average teams a good formula for the playoffs. You don’t go down by 30 against the 49ers and expect to come back on poverty teams that’s an awful fucking formula.
@@brusselseastside3546 how about watch the games. Majority of their one score wins were because they were up by 17 and let the other team get back in it. They already proved they can come back against elite teams as well. They were down 17 in the 3rd against the bills, in Buffalo.
@@5luelight726 OOOH so they let shitty teams one up them until they finally sober up and finally close the game well into the fourth. I don't care how you spin the narrative having a negative point differential going into the playoffs is fucking tragic.
@@brusselseastside3546 lol you mad. Are you a lions or packers fan by any chance?
Jefferson's 4th and 18 catch still gives me chills.
What’s so strange is that they’ve pulled off their roller coaster bizarro stuff against both top teams and bottom dwellers. MIN has a bunch of veteran players who seem to play better situationally than fundamentally, and it’s wild to see them click into gear when hope seems lost
We need a dorktown/chart party from SB nation on this Vikings season
Yes
It’s not there defense is Ed Donatell
Being a Vikings fan really takes its toll on your body after all the stress
Welp their luck ran out against Daniel Jones and the Giants in the Wild Card.
Phenomenal video. No matter what happens in the playoffs, this season has been super fun. I hope there's still some magic to be seen..

They have amazing stories about them!
im a viking fan and this is the most ENTERTAINING season of all.
You know the Vikes are never going to win a Super Bowl, they just won't. And I love it just because it keeps Paul Allen from screaming on the radio.
Not even a Vikings fan but they had some of the most entertaining games this season
Common Giants W
I started becoming a fan of this team around this time, in fact, the first game I actually tuned into was the absolutely insane Bills game
One and D O N E
Noithing abt JJ18 on 4th&18 is more bone-chilling than how selfless he was after making the greatest catch of all time. When Diggs made a one handed catch on 3rd&15, he just stood there like he's all that, when JJ made his catch, he handed the ball to the ref and jogged back to his team. That catch alone put him at top 2 WR in the league, and he's not 2
And now they’re one and done
Great vid man.
1 round exit...😂😂😂😂
this was cool as hell to watch. can’t wait to see what we do in the playoffs😤
Annnnnnnnnd the Vikings ended up Viking again. Always next year right 😂😭
looking back to 2022, as a vikings fan, it was the most stressful year of football i’ve ever watched
31-24…
I didn’t grow up in Minnesota, but since I’ve been up here, I’ve rooted for them. This year I got to go to my first Vikings game, at home vs the Lions.
I had so much fun, I went to the Thanksgiving game vs the Patriots. Another fun game.
My luck ran out when I drove out to Green Bay on New Years and watched a humiliating loss.
Good luck to the Vikings. If they manage to beat the Giants again, they’ll probably have to face the 49ers. I doubt they could go into Levi Stadium and pull out a win. But who knows. It’s been a fun season.
Vikings lost 31-24.
It’s hard being a first year head coach in this league, it’s incredible how far they are going
Aged like Milk
When you look at all of those clutch plays, you get a real sense of how good they can be
Think it's the opposite. Not easy to reproduce insane catches and crazy comebacks. I think all you get when you look at them is the sense of how bad they can be that without all of that. I think they should be able to get past the Giants though.
@Yawg moth Not true having 8 game winning drives like that is not luck bro maybe once or twice is but 8 times shows how good that offense really Is and how bad that defensive was now they have one of the best DC in the league Vikings are gonna be scary the next couple years
As long as Cousins is the QB the Vikings will always be a pretender. They showed that in their 1st round playoff loss 😂
I think Cousins ints going up and wins also going up is bc he's just tossing it up to Jefferson more. He's going more Farve-like and getting more big plays on jump balls which gives the momentum
The Vikings remind me of TCU this season. Absolute fluke wins and we’ll get smacked in the playoffs by a real team.
That's what I'm waiting for. I wanna see them lose.
Worth a deep dive. Kirk Cousins now has 3 of the 5 least probably wins in recent NFL history.
Vikings vs Bills, Vikings vs Colts, and now Falcons vs Eagles.
We Viking fans know that come playoff time they will always break our hearts. The only question is what new and creative way they will come up with to do it.
As a Minnesota sports fan I'm not sure I expected more than this lmao
This season has been an EPIC rollercoaster ride! No matter what happens during the playoffs, I'm very thankful to the Vikes for such a fun ride this year. SKOL!!
"You are what your record says you are." - Bill Parcells - That said, I also think they were over their skis in '22.

I was sitting on the toilet bowl at my grandmother’s boyfriend’s house when the Vikings rallied against Indy. Had terrible squirts after eating a moldy cheeseburger. But I watched the game on my phone and, as the rally began, was just glued to the thrown. Literally. Buttocks got sealed to the seat and medics had to come in and cut me out. That game was one to remember.
