Swanie’s love of animals and nature was apparent from a very young age and she has spent her life working with animals and learning everything she could about them. Influenced by Juliette de Bairacli Levy’s books, she went on to become an herbalist, TCVM practitioner and naturopath for animals (Tierheilpraktiker). Juliette de Bairacli Levy went on to become a dear friend and lived at Swanie’s farm in Germany for several years.
Swanie is highly specialized in the natural rearing and treatment of dogs and cats and is one of Europe’s most renowned authors, teachers and herbalists. She is credited with making the subject of raw diets for dogs and cats popular in Europe and has written several best-selling books on the subject.
Swanie has been teaching herbalism, TCVM and dog & cat nutrition since 2005 and online classes in Germany since 2014. She is planning online classes in English starting in 2023.
Today Swanie lives on a beautiful farm in the high forest region of Germany with 4 dogs, 5 cats, 2 horses, about 20 goats and a gang of chickens. She splits her time between her farm in Germany and her home in the beautiful Provence region of south France.

My 7month old puppy has allergies plus a bad kennel cough even though they gave him a vaccine at the pound to prevent it. This was such a wonderful talk. I've been trying to help my sensitive and allergic dog since she came to me but she seems to only become sensitive/allergic to more and more proteins and veggies. At the moment she can only have duck and a handful of vegetables.
Have you thought about trying medicinal mushrooms? Maybe Reishi? I believe it acts similar to an antihistamine. Nettles does too.

Do you know of any books for animals? Dealing with a dog with diabetes. I have switched him to raw food. He is on insulin, but I am struggling to manage his glucose.
Can Burdock root be given of your dogis taking Vetmedin and a diuretic??

My cat sleeps in a bed or cat mint all summer.
I’m an over the road truck driver and take my dogs with me all over the US. A common problem I’m having is our dogs are being exposed to lots of ticks, so my vet wants to put them on a preventative medication. After reading about these medication‘s, I do not want to do that. I listened to Swanie mention “not to use herbal sprays because of their sense of smell being too much for them”. . So my question is; Would there be an herb that I could feed my dogs that would keep ticks from wanting to bite them?

my elder cat is dealing with arthritis. I've been trying to find ways to help him outside of the steroids our vet recommended. I was wondering if there are any herbs that could be helpful, as well as the best way to prepare and deliver them for a cat.
I'd research borax, adding it to water or food. The amount for a grown woman is 1/8 teaspoon per day in a quart of water, consumed over the course of the day. It's incredibly helpful for arthritis and bone / joint/tooth health.
Idk if turmeric is OK for 🐈 Google it... but I give my 🐕 that as well as cbd/thc tincture with wild caught salmon and he doesn't cry from his bad arthritis

What herbs can help my cat with UTI and crystals? I stopped the dry food
Cranberry extract OR Uva ursi (not both), nettle leaf & seed and a raw meat based diet to add moisture plus add a bit of water. For acute UTI the TCM formula Ba Zheng San can be quite good if there are heat signs.
I use a lot of essential oils in my health care but I am very careful with them and my pets. One I have used for the dogs when they get their gut flora messed up is oregano. It’s hot so I have to put a couple of drops in a capsule and cover it with cheese. But it kills the adverse bacteria and then I give them the probiotics. It has worked many times when they have tummy trouble.
