In this video we are going to explore the potential of Bishop's power in the right scenario. Bishop has very little information related to himself as well as his powers at the full blown maximum. Bishop is a character despite some of his anonymity has gained a following a long with his showing next to the X-Men. Let us know any questions and theories you may have about the series as a whole. There’s plenty of history about bishop but not any drastic change regarding his powers (at least from what I read). So what would cause his powers to evolve? This video tackles that exact theory! Also one thing to keep in mind, most mutants abilities evolve in response to something directly (in most cases).

If Bishop was fleshed out he would be a walking Superman. Since he isn't limited to what energy he can absorb and can convert it he should theoretically be able to enhance himself. Ive seen him turn energy into beams, ive seen him redirect kinetic energy. So idk he is under utilized. He actually shouldn't be able to be defeated unless he has a pretty low absorption cap.
I think its a stretch for superman, wonderman maybe. But the plot armor on supes is unattainable for bishop. Lol. IMO the issue with that line of thinking is that superman doesn't consciously utilize a majority of his powers. In fact he is in a perpetual state of self nerf to avoid becoming basically lord Beerus. Lol. Bishop must consciously filter, recognize, amplify/transmute, redirect/divide (for sustain)... theres a level of his process that would need a serious overhaul to fall in line with big blue. Maybe a stark upgrade? Lol I dunno. I'd like to see a what if... bishop was a herald of galactus. Would he be able to transmute undesirable planets into adequate sustenance? Could he take a little from several living planets to make a dead one good to eat? With THAT type of upgrade you could really start imagining some wild stuff. Lol
Well, I feel like I saw a video recently, on how a black Superman would absorb more of the Sun's spectrum and could be stronger from it. That sounds like Bishop, too.

Bishop is a beast! I remember when he first appeared and he punch Colossus in his ish and broke his nose. My older brother was losing his mind because Colossus (who was his favorite character) got his nose broken in his metal form by the raw black guy. They seem to forget about him being able to absorb kinetic energy too

During the hunt for baby Hope, Cyclops did overload bishop's powers. So there are stated limits on his power, but as you said: Different writers different limits.

That was such a BS thing. When Illyana died and Magneto was holding everyone in place at her funeral, Bishop was the only person able to move and help the X-Men fight back. After which he absorbed the powers of Cyclops, Havok, Jubilee, Polaris and one other to hold Magneto down until Colossus intervened.
It always bugged me that Marvel always gives Gambit chance after chance but always regulates Bishop to the back burner. Bishop was a leader before he arrived from the future but the X-Men writers have always portrayed him as a grunt or underling while Rogue, Kitty Pryde, and Northstar are retconned into leaders. At the very least he should be co-lead of the Hellions with Psylocke. Hell, they even gave Iceman a solo title. Just ain't right. Also, if Storm is not really related to Bishop, then he should've had a shot before Wolverine. I think T'Challa would've underdtood that.

@@joeparrigen4982 He's had at least 3 titles (a origin one, a alternate universe one, and a buddy cop one), but as far as actually developing him, not so much. Unlike Cyclops, the X-Men poster boy, Bishop has untapped potential which nobody uses. Like Cable, he's from an alternate future. At the very least he should be off exploring the present and making connections. Instead he's just a less used Cyclops whose leadership potential is hardly ever addressed.
What are you talking about, marvel for the most part ignore both characters to an extreme, hell at this point in time I believe rouge is in the main x-men Lineup and gambit is nowhere to be seen, both are unfortunately on the back burner

My favorite aspect of the video is how you explained how much better Bishop can be depending on who he’s alongside. I remember the explosive results when they paired Gambit and Bishop together to take on Mr. Sinister.

His power limits vary with the type of energy he is absorbing and its deleterious effects on his physical matter. There are limits to say concussive force, but no real limits on say psionic energy. He also can use his absorbed energy to sustain and augment his physical systems. I love the character but he is often a story foil which kinda sucks for his development. Forge has the same issues. But nothing short of a secondary mutation would give home the omega level your looking for.
I agree, but also this is something that I had mentioned in another comment is that his powers are written inconsistently depending on the writer
@@AlternativeFactuals yeah tertiary characters hardly ever get the respect of consistency. Any of my more nuanced understanding of his powers come from the collectible card sets they used to put out. I have a GANG of those. And their great for gems about powers.
Great job. Interesting didn't follow Bishop at all. His character would be amazing to see on the big screen with the right production and direction. Love the background music.
actually, I think the best person to boost Bishop to his ultimate is to pair him with Spectrum.
I agree, bishops power works well with other powers that are score to absorb wide range of powers.
Energy Absorption: Bishop can absorb the vast majority of types of energy, including magic[citation needed], sounds, light, psionic, psychic,[3], etc, either environmental or directed towards him and he can project that energy from his body in different ways, whether in the form of concussive blasts, energy rays, explosions, fire, plasma, etc. In addition, Bishop can release the energy in the same way he received it, but with more force.[6] The nature of his powers makes it difficult to damage him with energy-based attacks, while also enabling him to work well with any energy-using teammates. Bishop can also store the absorbed energy within his personal reserves, whereupon the energy increases his strength, speed, stamina and recuperative abilities, as well as affording him a measure of invulnerability.[6] The upper limits of his ability to enhance his own physical abilities with absorbed energy is not exactly known, but is well into the level of being superhuman. He is learning to use his energy to temporarily increase his physical attributes in a manner similar to Sebastian Shaw and Agent Zero. The common powers he absorbed are listed:
Accelerated Healing: Bishop can heal at a faster rate than an average human; Bishop's regenerative factor increases proportionally to the amount of energy he absorbs, reaching superhuman limits. The limit of its regeneration is not known but the more energy it absorbs, it could increase incredibly.
Superhuman Strength: Bishop's strength reaches incredibly high levels the more energy he absorbs, his limit of strength is linked to how much energy he can absorb.[6]
Superhuman Speed Bishop's speed reaches incredibly high levels the more energy he absorbs, allowing him to run much faster than the best athletes.[6]
Superhuman Stamina: Bishop has an incredibly higher stamina than a trained human, allowing him to fight for hours without getting tired while he can absorb energy. Stamina increases the more energy Bishop absorbs.[6]
Enhanced reflexes and Senses:All of Bishop's senses and reflexes are increased as he absorbs energy.[6]
Superhuman Endurance: His powers reduce the need for sleep, food, drinking, body evacuations, and oxygen.[6]
Near-Invulnerability: Lately he has demonstrated the ability to absorb most of the energy from the attacks that are launched, regardless of type, making him almost invulnerable to all attacks.[6]
Psionic Resistance: Due to its ability to absorb psionic energy, Bishop is highly resistant to any type of psychic influence, since his body begins to absorb it, causing it to lose power, speed and efficiency. Bishop was even able to absorb psionic energy from Onslaught.
Energy Conversion: Bishop can also utilize the absorbed in energy in different ways, such as taking it and shifting it into other energy forms. Having done so once by converting ambient energy into psychic energy, using it to hurl a truck with his mind.[33] Doing so again when he was thrown from a tall building and converted the kinetic energy from his descent into sound and light based energy to break his fall.[54]
Concussive Blasts: He can re-channel the absorbed energy through his body for bio-kinetic concussive blasts or in the same form that was absorbed but with twice the force/power, including Storm's weather effects. This re-channeled energy is apparently able to damage beings normally immune to their own powers.
Energy Resistance: During the Civil War: X-Men story arc, Cyclops is controlled by another mutant to use his powers at their full magnitude to attack Bishop. Bishop attempted to absorb the incredible blast for a short time before he reached his limit and was forced to expel the energy into the air in a blast that would have killed everyone in the area. Other durability feats include Bishop preventing the X-Men's death at the hands of one of the most powerful beings in history, Onslaught, by absorbing a blast of an incredible amount of psionic energy aimed at killing them all. Plus taking and giving back two-fold a blast from the powerful mutant Mr. M.
Poison Resistance: Bishop is also resistant to most poisons.[6]
Other skills: He can "let his spirit go" as seen in X-Treme X-Men Annual #1. Bishop also has a kind of meaning that always lets him know where he is and where he is. It's unknown if this is a mutant talent, or an ability taught to Bishop sometime in his life.

I remember in the onslaught storyline, he took a blast from onslaught himself that was said to kill a thousand mutants. Now, he did pass out. It didn't kill him, but it did fuck his day up, lol.
Great review of bishop. And facts regarding the writers who at most times minimized his power set especially his power read. Matter if fact I think this similar slight happens for Neznho as well hmmmmm.

I've always been a fan of Bishop since his arrival into the X-Men. But he's been F'd over like John Stewart was in the 80's with DC. Marvel always regulates "O.P." minority characters to the background. Check this... he's joined the X-Men in 91 and he was the ace in the hole for them until they retconned Vulcan into the fray and basically gave him Bishop's power. Both of them are energy manipulators. How is Vulcan Omega Level and Bishop not? Can we get Ta-Nehisi Coates to step up his game and write for Lucas. He's doing mad justice with Manifold who he may be related to. Or have Nilah Magruder show him some love. And what's with him not having a love interest? Shuri has a intellectual mind that could sooth his savage heart or could Tempo, Celia Reyes or Frenzy be better match ups?
Comic book writers are racist. Whites can be powerful as all hell, but the moment a black character is introduced with the potential to be OP, they either get killed, sidelined, or put into limbo.
Well damn, you were even trying with this one? (just kidding lol). The best showing of his power that i can recall is a short face-off he had with Sinister in the 90's where he was carrying over a million volts of electricity (basically the totaliity of elecrtrical power in Sinster's lab). I always theorised the contrast between him and Gambit's energy absorption/manipulation abilities was intentional as their characters have such a long running fued, they're powers are essentially two sides of the same coin.
Trust me I know he’s powerful, the point that I was trying to make was that simply his powers could evolve even further but the whole reason that I kind of gave a scenario is mostly to show that he would need a trigger for his powers to evolve to the next level. So wasn’t so much that I didn’t know that he was powerful but it’s more or less there’s not enough history to show that his powers could evolve but I will still feel theorizing that it’s still a pretty big possibility

Honestly, he should already be able to do that among other things like absorb mutagenic energies and copy powers or being able to channel planetary energies like heat and magnetism. Bishop's powers have the potential to head into Omega level and they could have been there a long time ago if he had been more fleshed out. But of course, comic writers won't let that happen.

Got some really great & potent abilities, but here's his drawback, he(his powers) can be overloaded. So despite the years of experience he picked up, skills in the XSE, & w/the X-Men, if her absorbs to much energy? It's an official wrap. Remember when he tried to act tough & got hit arm ripped off?
