650ib ask Zach if he was suppose to put oil to lubricate to new cams. I usually see it done on new engines ua-cam.com/video/e6I6vJb6HQk/v-deo.html
I love these videos!!!!!!!
650ib I would definitely like to see your s1000 vs @esbklife s1000 on the track. I think he out in Arizona. Check out his channel

I am a machinist and I build motors like these for a living and it's really impressive to see a bike mechanic with this much understanding of the engine. Most mechanics don't have half knowledge and understanding of the insides of the bike as this dude. I really wish I had more shops near my house like this to work with/use.
Sirmellowman start a go fund me and build you a shop. Or put together a business plan for a shop and find an investor. The bike community need more mechanics like you and zack. 👍🏼
Sirmellowman I'm not a mechanic, but I knew from day one he was a awesome mechanic.
I need to watch this one more than once for sure..Great video!!
can anyone help me - i have a 2012 r6, im tryna install the camshafts. there are marks on the intake and exhaust that are supposed to be level w cylinder head - whenever i line them up, and go to install camshaft caps, the camshaft sprockets move and the lines on them are no longer level w the cylinder head - how do i fix this, should i install the tensioner (i have a manual one) in before installing camshaft caps? the camshaft doesn't sit in fully straight too. im thinking about doing that after seeing some of this vid
Seriously shocked me too dude kicks ass
mad respect to Zach, if it wasnt for his interest and time into actually explaining the steps i wouldnt watch the video throughout completely, i'd just be skipping through. You can tell he's a genuine guy. Thumbs up !!!
Thank you very much for that feedback.

Great to watch a pro doing his thing.
I really enjoy watching this BMW S1000RR being upgraded by a professional bike mechanic like Zack. He explains step by step what he's doing. GREAT bike build series!!!! Thanks 650ib!!!
I just love videos like these, pure mechanic stuff, and specifically videos about the engine
Zach got it all,I am very impressed ! Unbelievable knowledge about everything. He probably started to work after elementary school! While he is working hard and very fast, I never saw anybody else in the shop working. They play with their smartphone, have a smoke or just sitting around. Also, I would like to see a video where 650i just has to change a spark plug. It might will take him one hour, Haaaaaa
That was REALLY informative. Like a master class in how the shims are set along with how to clock the cams, etc.. Outstanding.
Awesome. Been waiting a few days for this. So glad Zach showed the process. I checked the valve clearances on my 08 CBR600RR at 36k miles and was happy to find them still in tolerance. Nice work Zach.
Been waiting to see the race cams installed. Can't wait to see the dyno results with everything installed.
Mr. Desmo that's what I'm waiting on aswell.
Really like this part of your videos. Watching Zack gives me more confidence in doing videos like this.
I feel like I could become a BMW tech after watching these. Zack does such an awesome job of explaining everything.
Very cool to see technical mechanics like this. Couldn't stop watching.
Thanks.... Zack is a BOSS!!!
This was a fantastic video....very informative. . This type of demonstration has never been shown on UA-cam before....all I can say is WOW...innovation at its best.
Thanks man!
Having the tool to lock the timing in place is really smart. It can be annoying on other engines when things keep moving around. Love this video by the way. This mechanic explains everything super well and detailed
This is about the greatest UA-cam video I have ever seen! Totally enjoyed seeing this process. I would love to try this, as long as the engine was already out on the stand, lol!
Alot of mathematics, timing, and patience to do that kind of work. And Zack has alot of patience. I would be scared as hell to take my bike apart like that. Zack is the man, for sure. My friend is purchasing the same s1000rr, motorsport color from Manhattan BMW next month. I need to show him these videos. He can learn alot about his bike when he gets it.
Zack is the man. Thanks for showing us and educating us on this procedure.
Sweet work! And doing a valve clearance job to boot! Im loving it. The bike is surly going to pick up a lot of hp.
The majority went over my head.. but damn.. that was super informative. Zack is doing an amazing job...
This is great i love the step by step and how candid he was about this 😁 ive always wondered how they do the valve job
This guy really knows what he’s doing man gives me great confidence
Love it, real technical & so much easier to do with the engine out. wish cars were that easy to pull down. Much respect 4 Zach, straight shooter & no bullshit. Good vibes & good video brutha!!
This guy is a fucking wizard. He's so calm and explaines beautifully what when and why things are happening. Everything he is saying is actually going in my head. Instead of in one ear and out the other. Loving the videos 650ib. Wish the UNITED KINGDOM COULD ENTER
Awesome video!!!! Made a scary job look so much easier! Two videos in two weeks that helped me ALOT. Keep em coming 650!🤘🏻
His explanation step by step is awesom
There’s Absolutely No way in Hell I would Trust Anybody besides a True Mechanic like This Man to do this to my bike.. Absolute Legend
I agree 💯💯💯💯💯💯
Thanks for sharing great video @650ib..! Be sure to let Zack know his patience and knowledge is greatly appreciated!
Way too involved and more laborious than I’m willing to do it even though I have the resources. I’ll let my bmw dealer to check and adjust the valve clearances when it’s due. I’m impressed with Zack. This video is one of the best of the new bike build series. Thank you ib and Zack.
650 is THE most awesome dude, cares more about his viewers than anyone else.... Look at this crazy machine he is going to GIVE away! Its nuts!
Thanks so much man!!!!
Digital NASA level torque wrench.
Too trick.
Great vid, awesome mechanic.
Been looking for a valve clearance vid, so thanks dude
Zach is a legend his work is magic
It was amazing. Thankyou for sharing this. I look forward to see more of such workshop videos.
As a fellow motorcycle technician thank you this video was truly awesome and actually helpful and your tech seems to be very knowledgeable and experienced with what he’s doing
Thanks, I agree
Amazingly descriptive! Nice one Zack!
Absolutely amazing. Great episode!
Just another day in the life of Zach the master mechanic. Wonderful!
Very interesting and informative video! With the knowledge he has and time he saves having it, Zack is easily worth $85 an hour.
BikeLife Soldier 2whlz4rlz sad thing is that he probably gets a small peice of that
@@willydmankal running his own shop?
I'd love to learn more from Zack, he's a great mechanic. I love to see him work on engines everytime.
Awesome to see BMW Mottorad using AIR for everything as well. Being a tech on the car side of BMW, it's really cool to see all the same tools being used for the bike side. The evolution from BMW car to bike tech seems like it wouldn't be so bad ;)
Daulton Grothaus correct we get your hand me downs😂. Thanks for watching
Great mechanic zack is very technical advice
Thank you for those informative videos, it was extremely hard job, but with this Zack, he made every thing clean and easy but for real it isn't
I've done work like this many times but never on a BMW. Nice to get a look at their spin on things.
Give this man a raise!!!!!!!
Nice job, Zack. I do the same type of work myself with equal amount of precision. I can't wait to see dyno numbers.
Zack for Senate!
Wow I like the fact that BMW makes that kit and the tool for the end of the cams so you don’t have to use a degree wheel which means the cams probably have the same lobe center as the stock cams
This guy is a beast mechanic
Really good informative video. Thanks for sharing the process with us all. 👍👍
man I love this channel!
WOW!!! An extremely informative video. Zack is awesome! Wish I had a mechanic so thorough. Does he work on Ducatis?
Very high quality content. Keep it up guys.
Man I have a new respect for all motorcycle mechanics, WOW!!!
My shop charges $75 an hour labor, and Im not going to complain about that any more👍🏾
Outstandingly informative video! You got yourself a great mechanic in Zack! I would do this job myself but of course it would take me like at least a month to complete. The best part of these videos is watching ib fumble with tools :). ib you need to get back down here to Washington, DC for some fun! Keep up all the good work.
I will be there tomorrow, Sunday at 2 Wheel Performance at 1pm
Best video man, as a geek i love it
Zack is strong man this kind of work need knowledge thinks ib for the video
Excellent👍 Zack is da man, he know's his stuff👍👍
ahhh i have to run out .. but ill be back to watch this video as im pumped to see the cams installed !!!
That stuff is TRULY amazingly cool! Mkes me want to go to school so i can do this for a living
Wow by far best vid I've seen for sportbike camshafts timing and valves. Just quick question. I noticed the camshafts hopped out of their journals after the caps were taken off. Is that normal to have to push lobe down while seating camshafts when sprocket timing markings are aligned with cylinder head matting surface?
Love these technical vids. Thanks.
Thanks Tony!
Really good video mate, really enjoyed this
Thank you!
That guy is a wizard 🧙♂️👌🏻
Waiting on the dyno results. Btw, Zack is the sh.t! Good vid
Fascinating stuff. Thanks for filming.
Zack for President 2020
Sweet video ib! Keep it up bro!!! Zack ur da master!!!
Really interesting stuff, well done guys!
Thanks!
The guy knows his stuff 💪💪💪
he is one great mechanic.
Zack is the truth and nothing but the truth!
I’m planning on doing a valve clearance check on my 2015 S1000R and this video definitely gave me a confidence boost. Thanks for all the detail and things to look for that are seriously critical. One question, for my 18k service do you recommend changing all main gaskets?
Zack is a artist :)
Your content is amazing!
Thanks ✔️✔️✔️✔️
I'm glad I waited to comment about the coating on the cams lol
Excellent video!
ohhh baby new video
Zach use a safety gogel to check the valve spring good work man 👍👍💪🏾
Owesome video. Good job guys.😉. I have a question. If I change the racing cams to my yamaha r1. How many horse power will get ?
Great content as always my friend
Thanks!
I just noticed that you set the timing with the 0° side of the BMW tool. As far as I understood the 0° side is for checking if the Cam timing is still alright and the other side with 1,7°/1,6° is meant for adjusting the cams after loosening the cam sprockets.
IB, I'm proud that you made this bike give-away legal.
Race Cams indeed make lots of power difference. You must be enjoying riding your Beast more now. 🙂
Ride safe.
This is going to be 1 seriously fast S1KRR
I agree!
650ib First off, killer work to zack and you. Love this series. Secondly, all I can ever think about while he's working is how you must be thinking "Jesus am I glad I work in IT" instead of in a shop. In actuality, skill for skill, zack should probably getting paid A LOT more. Just being honest. Y'all keep up the great work though.
Awesome video!
Wut up , I like your show an you seem like you an alright dude keep up the good work . Rod from Savannah GA .
Thanks!
Suprisingly interesting
1 of the best video ever
Are you sure the new valve springs are a single piece kit, without an inner spring? I've never heard of such a layout!
That magnetic cam retainer tool is so cool. (If you've never removed valves and keepers with an old C-clamp type gizmo, you won't appreciate how much easier the procedure is with the new tool.)
Nice job 😉
Which brand of Digital Torque Wrench are you using?
@650IB I love it when he's doing shim math and your like yup, sure🤣. Great vid!! More of this please!!!!
Hahaha. I was trying to follow along but he 🍳 my brain.
will give 8 hp and improve that mid range.
Hopefully they are good quality cams.
Best bang for buck would be porting the head and some good wsbk stage 3 cams from alpha racing the top bmw s1000rr specialist.
Zack you know your stuff pal. Been a pleasure to watch your skills 👍
man a rc car, lawnmower, and quickie saw is that a small engine repair shop lol another great video and in my cars I screw in a air hose connecter in the sparkplug hole and connect an airhose so you really do not need a leakdown tool as long as the fitting is the same thread size of the plug holes man I sure hope he put alot of assembly lube on those cams before install and turning them they looked dry to me which is a big no no on any engine should have kept old shims they are high dollar and may be useful for another bike
Hi! Thanks for such a great video! I have a question: Why on 26:15 the marks arent at the same place (aligned with the cast top)? I wonder how is that possible.
Do you put progressive wound of spring towards the head? Did you use Carpenter springs and retainers? I assume yes because you are using busa shims. Bmw has limited sizes. The cams change the base circle a fair amount
Wow. Who ever wins this bike is gonna be one very very very happy person. I wish i could participate, but college is kicking my ass, and my pockets. Lol
Awesome, would like to watch gear ratio tuning too.
Guess I'm late to the Zack party but the guy is damn good..
good job man !!1
Impressive!
