this is so good. sometimes i’m laying around beating myself up, and i look over at my kitchen and it’s lit up like the balrog in LOTR coming from beyond the columns. damn! i should paint that!

Thank you for sharing your paintings on youtube. I have learned so much watching you carve out your subjects onto your paper/canvas. On a much more superficial note, what is the palette that you put your guache in. I am struggling to find a good guache set up and I love this palette. Thanks

I don’t recommend a palette cases or paint box unless you paint gouache a lot a lot. Boxes like mine close and are prone to tipping over the paint into other compartments or molding if left closed. I find the best setup is a butcher tray or plastic palette and pouring the paint onto a wet paper towel rolled up. The box is great if you do it a lot though… this was custom built for me- kinda expensive for gouache but I really love it. It’s a Craig young paintbox he customized for me.

Looks great! I’m a watercolor artist just getting started in gouache. What is your favorite paper to use with gouache? I’ve been using tinted Strathmore. I like the aesthetic of the colors on the darker paper.
