Great video PJ! I’d personally verify overall length as some storm doors are thicker than others. If a customers door is less than 5 years old the manufacturer may cover replacement of a damaged lock and or damaged hardware if bought through a big box store. The aftermarket profile locks are usually more rekey friendly so good to have in stock. Great to know you carry them! Thanks for sharing! #lockboss
Wish I had heard all this earlier in life! We had bought a house, and didn't even have a key to the storm door-and the lock was an older one without the hex screws. More or less lucky to have managed to get it rekeyed up with the rest of the house, as you suggested, without messing it up! #lockboss
Thank you so much you don’t know how helpful you are. I don’t know you at all personally but I feel as if we’re both pretty good friends just because you’ve been teaching me a lot and I’ve been learning a lot. Thank you again my buddy have a great week.🎉
I see a lot of patio doors with multi-point locks having profile cylinders - good to know GMS has a great offering of keyways & finish options! Thanks, PJ! #AccessLockKeyLLC #HaulinBrass #LockBoss
Fantastic video pj ..I have absolutely installed 1000 of storm doors and you are spot on the big orange store will rekey to match your existing key or you can do it your self if I can remember..ya mind is going ..but it's really great to know you stock them ...#lockboss 🏝😎
Great information and timely. Just installed a storm door on my house. It is Kwikset. My house is Schlage. Will be ordering one in the near future!!!! #LockBoss.
This is very spot on! Before becoming a Locksmith I rekeyed a few dozen KW1 Euro Profile Cylinders in the retail setting, they are really easy! #LockBoss
I find these locks very interesting and I was surprised to have ran into them in the field a couple of times. Andy Perrin on the #lockswood UA-cam channel does a lot of work on these in England..great guy, Locksmith and channel! #lockboss
I have used these often. It is always good to be able to match all the locks on a customer's house so they can use just one key. I usually carry a variety of rim cylinders so I can also match the roll up garage door if there is one. Thanks for the video! #Lockboss
Thanks for the info, PJ! I haven't encountered a euro-style cylinder yet, but this helps for when I do. I've discovered that when you know how a lock works, you can often figure out the disassembly or install process. #Lockboss
One of the very few instances in America where we use profile cylinders. I love those little things though. The old ones make great training locks. #lockboss
Awesome information for any #lockboss I sometimes run into these Euro Profile cylinders and it's great to know there are GMS replacements available in various common US keyways, which apparently are stocked at CLK Supplies. Thanks for the .pdf -- very useful information PJ.
I didn't know GMS made a universal replacement for these. Good to know. Definitely can use a couple of duranotic finish. Common on storm doors around here for some reason. #Lockboss
always have a lot of people asking to do screen doors now thank to CLK I can always offer my customer the option to have one key for both doors #lockboss
If you are ever trying to identify a screen/storm door Euro profile cylinder that is 23mm inside / 31mm outside, it's for an Andersen Windows door, and replacements are available from them in KW1 and SC1 and in several finishes. They're they only ones who do that size, as far as I know. #lockboss
I had an issue for 1 client where Andersen didn't have a kw1 replacement but it was the French inswing and had a rim cylinder dressed up for the profile mechanism.
So I got a new house last year and the keys only worked on the front door. So pulled the rest of the locks and rekeyed them all the same. Except the screen door. Researched euro locks only to see they were only rekeyable with special tools. So I just pulled out the Lishi and picked to read the bitting to make a key. Ended up having a issues with the door handle and pull the lock a few weeks after to find the set screws that top each pin chamber. I felt stupid not pulling it before. But keyed it the same as the rest of the house now. Lesson learned. #Lockboss.
Hey PJ, you should do more product reviews of your inventory at CLKsupplies. I like buying from there and when I'm unsure on an item a video review makes my decision much easier. #Lockboss - Daniel
Many of those locks won’t come out the door without pushing on the retainer on the inside side. I use the Kwikset smart reset tool to get inside the small hole to do this. #Lockboss
I use them all the time. but it is hard to find the right size. the one that works on most storm door is 2 1/8" long with only 3/4 in on thump turn size. and 1in on key side. PJ you may what to bring this up to GMS Thanks #lockboss
Can I order this to fit my new Larson storm door? I asked A local locksmith they have no answers , please tell me what I need ,I can take it to A locksmith. Thanks
Neat. Just curious, even with it being a 5 pin lock, would a 6 pin key (SC4) fit? You forgot to mention Gates, which use these alot as well. #Lockboss. Welcome to the itchy and scratchy Show.
I’ve pinned so many profile cylinders in my locksmith career but not lately though but here’s a little tip for my fellow locksmiths. When rekeying profile cylinders not GMS I think the popular one here in CA are I think a brand called CES and to key them up you have to go one pin down from your normal pinning number. So if it’s a sc keyway like say something easy like 47538 you have to pin it 36427. I honestly don’t know why I’ve always done it that way. Also when you remove the plastic cap on top sometimes they break, so I use the rubber seal from window screens to replace that plastic cap. I carry some with me all the time I shove it in the area where the plastic cap was then I use a razor to cut off the excess off and boom. You have a new cap that won’t come off at all unless you pull it off to rekey it again. GMS profile cylinders are awesome but sometimes won’t fit correctly so I’ve have to grind away a little bit if the metal or aluminum on the door to slide the new lock in. Or the cam is thick and I’ve filed down both sides of the cam so it turns inside the lock/door. Anyways that’s just my two cents! #LockBoss
Man…I have worked on so many of these. The biggest issue I have come across is rusted set screws in chambers 1 and 2 making them such a challenge to rekey. That’s why I keep a bunch on my van. #lockboss
I pin up one chamber at a time and check the key, that way if there is a pin that’s too high/low I am not hunting for the problem chamber or chambers. #LOCKBOSS
They’re pretty simple locks. Some aren’t made to be Rekeyed. They technically can still be Rekeyed but not worth the effort. Tell the customer you can order replacement cylinders that will be rekeyable
@@riplikable they’re a standard rekey if they have the hex screws otherwise I might charge a little more if I had to use a pinning shoe and disassemble. I have the kit from Peterson’s and it makes easy work of it. Maybe takes 5 mins longer than with the hex screws.
I live in a market that has lots of Europeans immigrating some of them have even developed a company that produces multipoint doors that are a hybrid design with north American hardware so these euro profile cylinders are not that surprising the biggest issue I have is finding key supplier and if can they tend to be very pricy to import. #Lockboss challanges

There’s plenty of vids out there on how to do the rekeys. I did a vid awhile back on the variations and special tools.
