Like what you said about defensive driving, Been hit twice both while I had right of way and driver blew red light , then stop sign, I slow at every cross and ride much more aware now.

Hey, great advice on filling the space in the chain cover. About the exhaust lubing the chain, not a bad idea except the un burned old is not the only thing that will drip from the pipe. An automatic oiler isn't hard to make and can be set to drip very slowly. Just have to remember to open and close the valve at the beginning and end of each ride. I don't know if o ring chains are available in this size, but they only need to be cleaned once in a while. The way we used to lubricate they non o ring chains for racing many moons ago,,, Heat grease in a pot and immerse a chain in it. When the grease thins out, it creeps in between the pins and rollers where it's needed and thickens up there when it cools. Was the best "trick" for keeping lubrication in an abused chain for a long time. Enjoyed your video and have subscribed.

You especially have to ride like you're invisible on these because people see a bicycle and assume its a normal bike and think they they have time to pull out I've almost been run over by a tractor trailer that was at a stop sign because of this, he started moving as I was directly in front of him, it wasn't his fault nor was it mine but you have to be VERY careful when riding these

What are your thoughts on how far you can travel on a motorized bike... I'm planning on getting a motor for my bike so I can get to work.. Also what are some good motors?
@@jessemartinez2492 they have really good km to the liter a full tank would easily last me a full week with a 15 minute ride everyday. Im not really sure what a good motor would be but if you did a good bit of research i say you could find a good one. I heard some people talking about a zeda motor. I heard they were good. I didint do much reaserch when i got mind i just got it off ebay and i suppose i got lucky because it hasent broke yet.
I am a first timer motorized bike and just by looking all these videos it looks a lot of fun... I am on my 60’s and pedaling gets me tired and knees hurt so badly so my best choice is to get a motor what kind of motor do you recommend?? Will preciate some recommendation thanks in advance

Recommend a 415H motorcycle scooter chain(these are durable and hard to install but not impossible), CNC throttle and Mag wheels on bike, maybe dual disc brakes.

On the note of riding like you are invisible, (which, btw, is exactly what you should do) you should also ride like EVERYONE can see you. I built bikes for my cousin and i, (we live in a decent sized town/city in Wisconsin) while riding around, a car came up from behind and was tailgating my cousin really hard. (Speed limit of the road was 30 mph, we were both doing about 35mph and unable to physically go any faster.) Causing him to run off the road, but not before that car cane with in about a foot of his rear tire. He slammed on his brakes so hard just to prevent from crashing that he locked the rear brakes (v brakes, the arms tightened and bent so they held the wheel) and bent his rear wheel. Ride safe out there.
Oh, that last question is interesting.
Reminded me when I was young, and I over filled the oil in my C90. The seal on the gear selector drum is right over the front sproket, so when it blew off because of excess oil, my chain was lubricated 🤣
Recently took a 112 mile trip from buffalo ny to olcott ny and back broke the engine in nicely

ive been watching your channel for a while now. i had one of those 80cc anbull engines that came in but the engine came seized and the clutch was broken lol. i have a 50cc being shipped soon and im super excited to use it ! im thankful for these videos youve made. thanks a bunch!

Regarding what tools/spares you carry with you: You didn't mention a 14mm socket and some kind of wrench/ratchet wrench, and ABSOLUTE MUST! I went on a long ride during one of the hottest days of the summer two years ago. Well, I brought every tool/part you could practically need with me, EXCEPT for a 14mm socket and wrench. My head bolts ended up coming loose (forgot to tighten them after break in, so STUPID!) and I blew a hole in my piston, was pretty scary, but the worst part was pushing that 70lb bike for 5 miles to get back home in 110 degree heat. SO KEEP A 14mm SOCKET AND WRENCH ON HAND AT ALL TIMES!
Good call! I had a head loosen up mid ride to for the same reason... a 14mm would have been good to have.
@@LAHover I hear you brother, sometimes lessons are learned the hard way, lol. When I pushing that heavy bike home, during 110 degree heat, I damn near collapsed from heat exhaustion, I was only about 2 miles from home but was so burnt out that I couldn't take another step. This happened at a park, where I sat down on the grass to cool off and rest for a few. Well about 5 minutes later the sprinklers just randomly turned on, spraying me with cold water which I was SO GRATEFUL FOR! It was like "Manna from Heaven", and interestingly enough the park maintenance man was driving by in his "golf cart" (or whatever it was) and stopped, looked at me and said, "That's weird, the sprinklers aren't supposed to come on at this time, but you look so hot & exhausted I guess its divine intervention". They say that the Lord works in mysterious ways, and boy was I grateful that day, lol.

@@rockrl98bro if you do 70 miles in one day, say for 10 hours nonstop, you'd have to be doing 7mph the entire time. You must have some flat ground or incredible endurance
I say this because I do a mountain bike 3.5 miles everyday mild hills through town, and it wears me out a lot
Lol are you serious? I pulled off 35 miles in 2.5 hours and im a smoker. Averaging 7mph is nothing. 70 miles in ten hours is time to stop off for a beer

I am on my 7th build.. the first motor failed me because the mounting bolts vibrated loose while going down the road and one bolt snapped off when the motor turned sideways. The other 6 bikes all still run fine and my family uses them on a daily basis to goto work, store etc.. I have learned it helps to check bolts often, use liberal amounts of locktight and try to keep the motor in its comfort zone, (8/10 of throttle) to keep things running very smoothly. I have yet to build a 4 stroke, but that is coming soon.
How do I make my bike start everything set up correctly just seems the clutch doesn’t engage properly to start it and the wheel is still free coasting instead of locking up to start the motor ?
@@Daleyc Have you taken off the clutch cover and adjusted the nut for tension? I've built 2 kits, so I'm definitely not an expert, but my bikes get ridden, a lot. After the first few miles I tightened them up, then they were fine. Full disclosure I did replace the crappy hardware with grade 8 stuff.
Good info! Guess that I've been lucky, as I've had Pepe (my motorized bike) for over 13 years and only a leaking intake tube and weak chain needed attention-John in Texas
I agree on your assessment on the rag joint. The alignment and maintenance is the key to it lasting
I even built my second bike and used a 2001 xr80r Honda dirt bike engine on it and used a rag joint on it and about 600 miles now still doing good.

I bought a universal hydraulic disc brake and adapted it to the stock cranbrool wheel and welded a bracket to the original fork works great!
They make a universal adapter that goes right on the axle nut and a little hose clamp type thing that goes around the fork don't have to weld weld on metal you weaken it

Yeah you can weld any metal but when you weld metal you weaken it because you're changing the molecular structure of it especially on those China frames like the Cranbrook that's a huffy from Walmart

Is there anything stronger than the yd 100 I hear them call these 66 / 80 they are 66cc or 49 I guess what's the strongest motor I can buy

So today I went a got the exact same bike with a cheap engine kit on it for only 100 bucks! The bike had its tags on it and the bike never even got ran through it’s first tank of break in oil even yet! Only thing that was wrong was the throttle cable got pulled through the plastic throttle tub but luckily I had one from a minibike I had that worked and now I have a awesome bike to cruise back roads around me
They sell a little peace of metal called a "motorized bicycle chain stop" on ebay that bolts the side cover preventing chain lockup.
I like the experienced advice. It's good educational content. I'm just beginning to research motorizing a bicycle and all these tips help. This video potentially just saved me and others from some serious headaches and stress in the future. Thanks 👍

Just thought you'd like to know a garage door opener that uses a chain to operate it will work on the bikes. It's a 415 chain. It's a nice long length too. I see these in dumpsters all the time.

A rebuilt is a common on 2 strokes, remember thought rebuilding means you'd have to do the proper break in again.
PS. Not such a heavy 16:1 or 20:1 since the crankcase has been lubricated and the cylinder walls/piston ring+bearing can be precisely lubricated for effective break in.
Exhaust oiling the chain. Back in the day Harley routed the engine breathed thru a tube that exited over the chain.it worked on my 74 flh. But then the eco crew did away with vented motors. What's old is new,lol

On the fork swap....Myself I used a set from a junk bike.... I had to use a cutoff wheel and trimmed the top and bottom of the tube for the threads to fit the top locknut on.... Just make sure it is an even cut and clean the edges for the bearing cups to fit back in the tube

Couldn't agree more if your going 35 mph on a bicycle with 2 stroke engines you better have you're wits about you.i have a little mountain bike with the 49 cc really cool I built it from scratch. Along with a better bike I recently picked up another complete one for 50 bucks. My first bike has a little more than 200 bucks My first build I am mechanically experience and frankly I grew up race deserting motocross. Open class only so these cute little things are nothing really but fun.i plan on on building a collection 80 cc 100 cc and a 4 stroke model.when I graduate to a high speed road bike I plan on using one of those cool frames with the built in tank I have seen some gorgeous ones that are out together sweet with the backseat and years 70 plus mph but for now I going to build mountain bike style and get more experience in our these little rice burners under my garter belt haaa.You provide a tremendous amount of information on these things and I sincerly appreciate it. Havnt tried oil chain from exhaust mainly cause try to keep oil from rear tire. Learned that lesson riding motorcycles. Also chain catching...,I tilted my motor forward so that top of gear case was further away from chain and have had no problem since. But understand not every solution across the board. But have built 2 stroke, 4 stroke and 1000w 48v ebike. So i have learned many lessons the hard way. Biggest upgrade in my opinion was wheels. My spoked wheels had to be trued every other ride and just got sick of tasking tires off n on. So i got some mag wheels and i love them. Durable, sprocket mounts directly to wheel and disc brakes were no problem to install. after i made my own adaptors. so if i can help with Anything would be my pleasure.
Ran one only one rim with rag joint for 12 years, maybe 5000 miles. Retired it only because last time I had it trued, they said that all they could do with it. Got hub adapter, broke spokes, punctured tube.. A nice slime tube 😢.

I see the way you ride and interact with the bike. I just picked one up and plan to get quite a bit of use out of it. And I'm hearing horror stories about using them as regular commuters
Gotta concur regarding rag joints. I have one on one wheel, and a Billet Adapter on another build, and truth be told I think I trust the rag joint more. Just something about the nut bushings on the adapter against the spokes under torque...I dunno, I may put a rag on that wheel too...
I have also heard of the exhaust system having garbage in them and it gets sucked into the cylinder.

The first engine I ever bought had the piston installed backwards and both rings were busted when I finally had to overhaul it. I check the piston every time I get a new engine now. It’s 50/50.
I love the videos on this channel! I'm new to the motorized bike world and getting my kit shortly. How do i determine if the piston is in backwards?
Make sure you ten your tensioner to the bike frame a bolt or a pain in the frame where the bolt tensioner is for the chain so it does not move and take your spokes out
On your seeutek motor take off the fly wheel cover clutch plate and spring. Then loosen clutch cable and it will reset your clutch arm.

The Hotshot bicycle has just been retired and was replaced by the Huffy Cranbrook bicycle.
I think the large gap around the chain sprocket on the engine is so you can put a larger gear on and still have clearance.
Once you take the forks off you will see what size head tube is but older ones typically had smaller tubes and the new ones have larger sized head tubes!
Eh fender tip take a piece of pvc pipe split it with a saw and heat it up and bend it around a old rim, will have to clean up a few waves but they would great as full fenders

Hey, that last question caught my attention. On my Huffy Cranbrook, I have an El cheapo banana pipe, and it does just that. It does actually lubricate the pedal chain, unfortunately not the drive chain, but yes, it works great 👍👍

The 415 stock chain that comes with the engine kits is more than long enough for 29" bikes. You still have to remove about 5-7 links to have the correct length of chain.

The Seeutek 80cc 2-stroke bicycle motor is still being used on the Huffy Cranbrook bicycle.
I've been riding the same two-stroke 80cc motor for 11 years with a rag joint on it same rim on the back same rim a huffy stock Chinese rim and I tighten those nuts every 10 hours riding it I've never had any problem
Hello All..... I built a custom 80cc and had to CUSTOM bend the exhaust in order to clear "Leg Space". A bonus was that the exhaust oil blasted onto the chain while riding. Matter of fact, it lubed the chain so well that the master link came apart and the chain just slipped off to the ground. BTW> I was at 40 MPH. Talk about Dumb Luck with NO damage? Anyway, Just thought I would share this with you all and PLEASE don't run your bikes passed 50MPH !!! Mine does and it's NOT fun anymore at that speed.... Talk with you again, Phil
I highly suggest buying a high quality japanese chain. Would have saved me a lot of headache if someone told me lol
The ears on the wrist pin clips get knocked off. I lost 2 engines that way. the cure is using clips without ears. Treatland has them from Wiseco for about $5 with shipping. You have to cut a groove in the pin area so you can get a pick under them.

Love your vids man. Do yourself a favor and buy a 1/4" drive Ryobi impact driver and some sockets. It's cheap and is more than good enough for this type of work. You won't regret it!
Get rid if the inline fuel filter if you have one in your tank , increases flow and make sure your ratio of oil is tuned to your bike where the bore and head is not black and spark plug is coffee looking
built 2 fat tire bikes and 1 standard bike using 56 tooth and had to add more chain. no big deal. but have some around so you don't have to wait to ride, peace ride family

Yes I actually do run my exhaust where it blows on my change oiling my chain however you have to have a chain cleaner permanently mounted on it otherwise with the excess oil on it the road dirt gets up on the chain and causes damage to the chain and gumming up your sprockets inside the motor housing other than that it is a lifesaver especially if you ride in very wet areas my chain has never even had surface rust on it
My bike has all the street legal stuff, even turn signals. I still been hit 3 times. I ride in the street and always give cars/trucks the right of way letting them go around me... but they don't always move over far enough so they end up clipping me with the mirror or turning into you. there are bad drivers, some that actually hit parked cars and run up poles.
Hey br i like ur videos...what do u think is my best bet on a rear wheel..obviously i would like to get a hub adapter but i at least am going to go with 12 gauge spokes.. my bike is a Yukon Giant 44 to carburetors stock I do have a banana pipe on it not a full expansion chamber but it in Access one and runs a lot better with it curious what you think as far as wheels go bro
A remedy for a slipping adapter is to install it on the shaft and if both sides touch both sides need to be shaved till you can see small spacing after that use a pin punch and tap it with a hammer to roughen it up the inside and also all around the rim shaft and problem fixed

24:00 I had it twice because I didn't tune properly, got it started and going but would immediately sputter out, and going fast on a heavy bike when that clutch is fighting back... it was enough torque to bend the stock tensioner bracket, and the I guess the shock of it rippled up the chain and got it stuck.
what size are the gungeon pins on these engines? one of mine flew! off today. didn't even hear it land.
Be careful if you decide to try your chain lube idea using the exhaust. It might infringe on fords automatic Undercarriage system for lubrication of external stationary parts system. Theirs uses leaky oil pan/valve cover gaskets, and the venturi effect, combined with any crankcase pressure to atomize the hot lubricant while driving, and the force of the air at driving speed to distribute the lubricant across everything. Your idea of using the unburnt oil already coming from the exhaust is a far superior automatic lubrication solution though in my opinion, because since these 2 stroke engines do not have a wet sump where engine oil is stored, only a "moist sump" (lol) where the oil/gas mixture passes through the case to lube the bearings. You wouldnt have to install the red flashing "replace engine now" light, that always comes on after your U.S.L.E.S.S. lubrication resevoir runs dry while driving, since it shares its supply with the lubrication system for the engine internals, and yours uses what would end up being wasted oil anyway. They are similar systems, but i'm no patent lawyer, so take my comment, as well as the (hopefully obvious) satire with a grain of salt.
TL:DR, I think your chain lube idea would probably work well, but maybe too well. It will almost certainly be messy. I"ve had an ingrained negative outlook on Ford vehicles since I was old enough to drive.
Love your videos BTW. I just had to toss in a little humor since I've watched quite a few of your videos now since being bitten by the bug, and you've helped a ton with some decisions on what to buy, and what to stay clear of. Keep it up. Sharing your experiences is helping someone somewhere. I'm honestly interested to know if you ever tried the chain lube idea though, and if it resulted in a black stripe down one side of your back or not :-P

Exhaust near or blowing on chain I've seen only on motorcycles not bicycles. It heats up the chain & makes them look real dirty but never seen anything go wrong. I've also seen a blow by hose on 4 stroke go on top of a chain.

me with my first couple of builds, simply omit parts that don't want to fit.
Air filter rubbing the frame so the motor won't stand up straight, no filter. Exhaust doesn't clear the pedals? Gone. Brakes interfering with the chain? Ha, trick question I haven't used brakes on any of my bikes with a motor. Extra brackets, nuts, bolts, weird thingy I never used? Meh, prolly not needed... Some nuts shook themselves loose and fell off? Sure but it's still running so why fix what ain't broke...

I’ve seen 48ccs with the same engine parts for 2+ years, I guess some just tend to last longer than others, I’ve seen a cheap 66cc last for 30 minutes before blowing up these things you just never can tell.

Been hit twice and gotta admit hes right both times could have been avoided. One time i was late to work forced to take the bike with basically no brakes.
I like the points you raise about chain lubrication, tension and it folding up in the trans.
Chain tension I would imagine could be solved with a 2 stage spring tensioner... fancy yes but I'm gonna make one, essentially like a miniaturized long travel shock absorber in a guide. The "fill the space" epoxy puddy is a great idea too, but the machined cover would be ideal. Compromise and go get a guide plate welded to the inside of your cover?
Automatic lubrication would be great, but I would worry about an excess buildup gathering in the trans (especially with the cover chain guide) or worse... on you. Not sure how much the exhaust leaks honestly, my only frame of reference I have is messy nitro RC motors. I'll be ordering my 1st 48cc 2 cycle kit (IL legal) next week, and your video is quite informative, thanks!

How do I make my clutch engage to start my bike ? It just carry’s on free coasting instead of starting ?
I know you're probably busy but I'd like to ask you what motor kit to buy for my Mongoose mountain bike I'm pretty sure it's a 26in I'd like it to have decent amount of speed as I live in an urban city like area I'm not trying to spend a lot of money but I don't mind standing at the same time to get the right motor please give me a recommendation whenever convenient thanks a lot and good job on your videos
As I don't know all frames I can not guarantee a good fit. But something like the "Zeda Triple 40" is a solid motor with good performance. It has a larger lower mount witch allows it to fit in smaller frames as well.

Flip the clutch bracket arm. It should be angled outward. And when adjusting the cable only adjust it so the arm rests on the clutch pin (no pressure).

My engine cuts off whenever I engage the clutch I just did a complete engine overhaul on a phantom 85 any ideas why it shuts off when I pull in the clutch

If everything is working properly. Loosen up ur motor mounts and use locktight every were u can..not the permanent one not red .vibration is the main killer thats all

Holy crap did u make me laugh all of my motors have been second hand I'm sorry to say virtually no milage because of the exact scenario you described either a wheel fell apart or some other misfortune I got the good end of the deal someone or several someone's realized a crash at even 25mph sucks hard and have gotten 6 motors this way thanks for letting people know that these aren't for the average person or kids they vibrate a lot and require a lot of carefull maintenance to be safe thank you!

That last part about fouling the fill that void with gear oil it will oil the chain auto about 2 drops a day loose seals in there the reason I did who make sure bearing got the chain was an additional benifit.

Regarding oiling the chain from exhaust, as far as I know the carbon/ash and heat from exhaust harms the chain links causing excessive wear and shortening the chain live. This I know from old motorcycle guy, never tried or seen this on a motorized bike. For the sake of experiment I guess it's worth trying, I let you know if I ever do.
