      I agree. I have been so disappointed with the price point, taste and quantity of vegan meats sold at the store. I'm on a mission to try to make them as quickly and affordably at home as I can!

    So good! I made this again for Christmas. I ran out of molasses and used brown sugar instead. It came out great!

      Sounds great. Nice tip about the brown sugar. I want to try a chick'n recipe for this one soon. Hopefully make it a little more twisty :) I'll be experimenting in the upcoming weeks!

    Do you know if vital wheat gluten would be an OK sub for methylcellulose?

    I made this yesterday and just put it in the oven now! I used all the same stuff except my jackfruit was frozen that I thawed out first. The dough was very wet and I ended up adding about another cup of pea protein to it. Hoping it still comes out okay!

      Let me know how it turns out. Make sure you cook it until it is browned on the outside. Oven temps vary and I think my heat it up a little in Hawaii so it needed less cook time :)

    Hi! It looks amazing. I was wondering if I can use xantham gum instead methylcellulose. Thanks:D

    • @VeganAlohaKitchen
      @VeganAlohaKitchen  3 роки тому

      I haven't tried that. I am not sure what happens to xanthan gum when it is heated. Most of the test I tried were unsuccessful without the Methylcellulose. If you try it let me know how it turns out.

    We tried this for Thanksgiving yesterday, unfortunately didn't quite come out like how it looks in the video. The texture was very tofu-like (although held together much better due to the methylcellulose), and it was also just very bland in taste for some reason. For others trying this recipe I would suggest adding extra salt and seasoning to the wet dough mixture as well as the marinade

    • @VeganAlohaKitchen
      @VeganAlohaKitchen  3 роки тому

      I am sorry about that. Did you add in the celery salt, garlic salt and liquid smoke? Those usually pack a pretty big flavor. I made this again yesterday and it turned out for me. Either way thank you for your feedback and Happy Holidays.

    I'm going yo try this, but wondering if I can make turkey cutlets instead of the roast. Thoughts?

    • @VeganAlohaKitchen
      @VeganAlohaKitchen  3 роки тому +1

      Yes I think this would work even better. It will take less cook time. One of my plans is to adapt this recipe and make "chicken" cutlets. I'll try to reach out when I get that one up.

    Any substitute suggestions for liquid smoke? It’s a migraine trigger for me. Thanks!

    • @VeganAlohaKitchen
      @VeganAlohaKitchen  2 роки тому

      You could add extra smoked paprika that will give it a nice taste. If you have a regular smoker you could take this ingredient out and just give it a natural smoked taste by putting it in the smoker. Or possibly grill it but put Smoky wood chips in the grill.

    Looks great! But I'm allergic to soy. What would be a good substitute for the tofu?

    • @VeganAlohaKitchen
      @VeganAlohaKitchen  3 роки тому +1

      A half can of white beans might work. I'm not positive because I know the tofu firms up a little bit when it bakes. But the methlcellous also does a good job of binding everything together. I would try it with a small loaf to see how it turns out. Let me know how it works. I would swap the tofu for beans and then add a half a tablespoon more of methylcelliosis.

    Does it freeze well

    • @VeganAlohaKitchen

      Absolutely. You can freeze it before you cook or after. I always shave off a bunch and keep it in the freezer for sandwiches. I have also frozen it in "turkey" pot pies.

    Hello! I made the mistake of following your verbal instructions on the tofu portion and didn't have captions on. Ended up with an overly mushy tofu mess after two days of cooking! Please edit it on your website recipe instructions too as to not confuse anyone else like it did for me.

    • @VeganAlohaKitchen

      So sorry it didn't work out for you. I found if you place it in the fridge overnight it should firm up and cook through.
