Sadly Delroy Burris passed away this year at the age of 68 and was a greatly respected spokesman for Liverpool's Black community from the 1970's to the present day.....

I stayd whith my daughter at time,s and she all ways workd and her children playd by the door and i neaver saw eny thing out of order and the people were nice both black and white i live in l8 but the other end and were i lived the kids white were out playing foot ball when there was one round the corner till one till one in morning till then would come out at one in afere noon till one in morning and bang on a womans wall and nothing was done so i hope what goes round comes a round and shame on the white perants,

Granby gone now. I loved that place, the gambling house, the food house, street buzzin with life and vibe. Sunday night beef stew at the church❤️. I’m The Bert ( Richie P, Gabriel O, Boo solid Gold, Loyd, Wayne Freemo, L8 hit squad). I’m white. Never got hassle (except the blue). Granby, Princess Ave etc was so vibrant, brilliant. I remember dancing outside African Center showing me Ska moves (rude boy) within couple of mins we had a crowd. We had food, wine and song and it went on till church opened. Loved going the Blues❤️ None left now, just a hazy memory. RIP Richie P ( brother from another), Delroy Burris. It will never ever be the same. Love you all, very much. This is from the Bandung File- program most closely associated with Darcus Howe and Tariq Ali. This is either Jan Bain or Gita Saghal reporting.
An excellent and informative analysis of a sad and unnecessary situation. Following the 1981 riots, a number of "normal" Police Officers were saying openly that the majority of the rioters and looters were white and from out of the L8/Toxteth area, just as Delroy reported that the car thieves/dumpers were coming into Granby St. from outside the area - surely the Police could have worked out that there were more stolen cars than there were in the area.
As for "open door" at the main Bridewell, that might have worked if the door swung both ways!

Delroy seemed like a guy you could have really interesting conversation with.
As someone who's lived in Netherton/Bootle, I've definitely always had a negative image of Toxteth based on what people tell me and as a result, I've always steered clear of it. It's sad, because with any area that has a bad reputation, you get a lot of amazing people mixed in and tarnished with that same reputation.

The same could be said for Bootle, Norris Green and Croxteth. I lived in Toxteth for 30 years and was always told to stay cleer of those areas.

Well not true has i came from bottle and i found granby ok has the people were rearly nice and some black girls were rearly nice too me so there you not being funny i lived there for a wail then when my daughter lived for a wail and she workd like a lot of them did black and white its being made too look worse than what it was,
