  • GM got CAUGHT Sneaking Millions from Corvette/Camaro/Car Owners!
Ladies and gentlemen, today I will discuss GM quietly and very sneakingly scamming millions of money from anyone who owned a Corvette or Camaro, and really anyone who has OnStar that likes to drive fast at times.

GM recently announced OnStar will be "free" and standard on all new cars for 8 years. Trying to sell a spying feature as a positive when it's actually you that's the product. Don't drive recklessly? Do you suddenly brake or swerve to avoid hitting another car, child or squirrel? What is your definition of reckless vs the reasons they will charge you more?

I've talked to a couple of friends, and they both told me theirs went up (neither own Corvettes). Still I don't like GM selling private info. Oh, we're Cali people, we expect to always pay more

This is why I appreciate "UA-camrs" like yourself who is not afraid of posting information like this. This is HUGE partner and GM needs to be held accountable for this.

When I bought my sixth gen Camaro SS (back in 2018) they asked me about the onstar if I wanted it and I said NO because I KNEW this was being done without anyone telling me because I used to work in IT. Whenever a transmission is going out, someone is receiving it on the other end.THERE IS NO WAY A DEVICE even like a GPS that tracks your arrival time that is connected to satellites isn’t transmitting and STORING that data somewhere in the hands of someone. Not just car companies but Garmin and TomTom have probably been doing the same thing. I’m not excusing it but this isn’t a GM thing, this is a WORLD WE’RE LIVING IN thing. Don’t think that your Alexa isn’t probably doing the same in different fashion. Take control of your privacy and make responsible choices with your data 💪🏿🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥🇺🇸🔥👍🏿

Recently I noticed it was on again and I am the only one who uses the car and the app, and it was after an update and restart that the app had done. So somehow GM reset that setting to being on, seems fishy but not surprising. So might not hurt to double check the settings occasionally, especially if the app does an update.

It is ridiculous how State Farm increases my insurance a month. I’m paying over $2,500 a year for a Cruise. Every company that I call it’s about the same. It’s insane. If you’re young they charge more and when you get older they charge more.
    Thank you for this information.

Fortunately, my OnStar is a 2LT standard and is no longer supported. Mine is insured by Grundy for an agreed value of $50K for $638/year, $100 deductible with unlimited milage. Had a fuel pump fail on a previous car insured with them, and they did reimburse towing expense.

In addition to sending the information to the Insurance Companies: 1) How does Carfax and similar services get their information. Someone must be making money here? 2) How do the third party warranty companies know that your Factory Warranty is about to expire?
Info leaks like this are certainly an invasion of privacy to loyal customers!!!

Mike, this does piss me off. How would they possibly know if you were, for instance, at a closed course somewhere having fun with your car legally? And is any of that any of their business? And, why do they make cars like this and test cars like this in those environments if they don’t intend for them to be driven that way? All rhetorical questions, but it sounds like you have the answers as to the next steps. 1. Change insurance companies (preferably NCM). 2. Disable the system. 3. Put your name on the class-action lawsuit. 4. Let your dealership know that you know and show them the evidence. 5. Vote with your feet.
This is such a huge violation of consumers’ privacy and yet another way that technology is constantly biting people in the @$$ when they don’t even know it. This is the sort of thing we know the government has been doing for a long time, and we know private companies do it as well to tap into peoples’ purchasing habits for marketing intel. But to think that GM shares our driving habits with our insurance companies is infuriating.
Great video and content, Mike. Thanks for sharing. 💪🇺🇸

It baffles me that people are surprised. Every modern vehicle gives you a privacy disclaimer, sometimes very briefly, that tells you they sell your data. This right here is why that matters, why we as consumers need to advocate for our own privacy, and our own ownership. Things like this will keep happening, it will get worse. You cannot sue gm for this, like it or not. You all agreed to it.

Quite literally knew about/suspected this 10 years ago, caught my wife's 2014 TrailBlazer 'calling home' periodically using an RF spectrum analyzer, wasn't able to decrypt the OTA payload back then, but the emissions stopped dead by pulling the OnStar box from the vehicle (under rear seat on passenger side) and was promptly tossed in the junk bin. I'm guessing pulling that box these days could render the vehicle inoperable??? I'll never buy a GM product manufactured after 1990 again.

This is no different than eavesdropping. Which is illegal in most states. Not only should the lawsuit be against GM it should also be against each insurance company that bought the information. It is bad enough that they price ALOT of people out of the market.
Insurance is a steady income for these companies and investors. In other words. It is guaranteed money that does not need to see profits. Is would be what I would call a base income.
This act of invasion of privacy needs to be used as an example of what not to do by striking both GM and ANY manufacturer that sold information to the insurance companies as well as Allstate and any insurance company that purchased the information right in their pockets for this VIOLATION.

One thing that no one has put out is the fact that GM decided to not use their engineers pricing suggestions for new model Corvettes like they did when the C8 was 1st introduced. Instead they created a new bunch of bean counters & had them juggle the numbers so they could build in a big price increase across the board for the Z06 models. Then to add insult to injury they decided to put this 6 month rule out to void the cars warranty not for the person doing it but for the next buyer who had nothing to do with causing any of it. The other part of that 6 month restriction was to threaten the sellers with not being able to purchase anymore cars from them. You will probably get a chance to Vlog about that part of the 6 month rule in the near future!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you really think over-the-air updates were for YOUR convenience? No, in the dead of night, the manufacturer ACCESSES your vehicle and COLLECTS all the data remotely, and sells it. This is why I am keeping my 2012 Ford Focus. All the companies do this, if you have a new enough car. It also knows where you went, how many times you go there, and if you took kids or adults with you, and how many of them. Did you think being able to tell if a child was in the front passenger seat the air bag would be shut off, and that's all? No....they know who is in every seat by weight, and collect that data.

You can deactivate linked services but………. They will still have access to your location and certain other vehicle information. I had this issue in 2018 with a Chrysler Pacifica hybrid. For the service department to deactivate all information sharing, it would leave the vehicle with a check engine, light on, and a bunch of wiring would have to be pulled out. Bunch of crock! They are watching our every move. The sad part is, you agreed to this monitoring of your vehicle when you accepted their terms, and they gave you some rewards points through Chevrolet. Ridiculous.
