How thick can each machine weld in a single pass?

HELP!!! My 252 won’t turn on, the red digital read outs flicker when i turn the switch on. If i spin the dials it flickers a little faster. Once or twice the fan turned on without anything being hot, (since it won’t run) Any ideas what it could be?? I purchased it new in 2008 as a hobby machine. Barely used at all since i tried to teach myself how to weld and seldom used it. Last time used was about 4 months ago. Thanks for your help, TJ
