Kid Klown in Crazy Chase (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

  • A playthough of Kemco's 1994 action game for the Super Nintendo, Kid Klown in Crazy Chase.
I play through both of the game's loops for the best ending. The second loop begins at 29:32, and at 49:27 I show the alternate bad ending.
Kid Klown in Crazy Chase is a follow-up to Kid Klown in Night Mayor World on the NES. Night Mayor World was a reskinned localization of a Disney game, and so Crazy Chase isn't really a traditional sequel so much as it is a new game based on the characters established in Night Mayor World.
It's an isometric semi-auto-scrolling platformer in the same vein as Isolated Warrior on the NES. Kid Klown races the clock (er... bomb fuse) through five different stages - themed obstacle courses, in essence - in search of "honey hearts" that he needs to save Princess Honey from the villain, Blackjack. These honey hearts can be earned by successfully finishing a level on the first pass with all four of the card suit icons in hand. If he doesn't find them all, the level starts over again and he loses his opportunity to get the honey heart. The game can be completed without these honey hearts, but doing so will result in getting the bad ending.
Each stage is loaded with a huge assortment of traps and enemies, most of which are unique to each area, that have to be sidestepped or leapt over if Kid is going to make it to the goal in time.
He can be flattened by rolling logs, hit by cars, set on fire, impaled by spikes... there's an absurd number of ways that Kid Klown can meet his grisly end, but hey, since when was love ever easy?
But it must be said that these scenes are some of the best parts of the game, and the strongest part of an already impressive presentation. Kid Klown in Crazy Chase is a very good looking game: not only is the perspective novel, but the amount of charm that the art style and the fluid animation brings to the experience makes it a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable game. The game was praised for the quality of its graphics when it first came out, and that praise was well earned. The bouncy, cheerful music is also well done. I kept finding myself humming the first stage theme long after I would turn the game off.
The game isn't perfect - the perspective can occasionally cause issues with judging depth (especially during jumps), some of the traps can seem a bit cheap (like when a balloon drops on your head like a bowling ball without any warning), and the final scene where you unlock the cage can be infuriating (it relies completely on luck, not skill, regardless of how well you played to that point) - and these issues are what prevents the game from hitting "classic" status. But, they don't ever prevent the game from being a fun, light-heartedly violent romp through a brilliantly realized 16-bit pseudo-cartoon.
If you want something that feels original and special, Kid Klown in Crazy Chase is a great choice. It's not the best game out there, but it has a ton of heart and will undoubtedly make you smile.
Do yourself a favor, though, and be sure to play the SNES version. The game did get a release on the Game Boy Advance, but despite having more content, the GBA version's playability and appeal suffers as a result of its choppier framerate and cut animation frames.

I think I understand why the King decided klutziness was an asset for rescuing Princess Honey.
Look at how much slapstick-y trouble Blackjack gets into while he tries to hinder Kid Klown. Klown klutziness is klearly inkredibly kontagious.

      Positives:
      • *Good Graphics*
      • *Good Character Animation*
      • *Good Music*
      *NEGATIVES:*
      • *Horrible Enemy Placement* (My, *GOD!* I haven't seen enemy placement _this_ bad since Sonic Advance 3 and Mario 2: Lost Levels.)

      • *Mashing the Buttons Just to Move After Getting Hit* (This will happen to you over, and over, and over, and over, and *OVER AGAIN!!* )
      • *Hard for all of the Wrong Reasons* (Way, *WAY* too hard!)

Well this game is made by Kemco and they are famous for their Kid Klown games but also their Crazy Castle games. The reason why Kid Klown in Crazy Chase is so hard is because the game is too short so Kemco decided to make it harder. If AVGN review this game he will get pissed out how hard the game is.

      Kid 🧒 Klown
      Initial release date: 1994
      Series: Kid 🧒 Klown
      Developer: Kemco
      Genre: Platform game 🕹
Composer (s): Shinichi Furuta; Yumiko Orishoge; Musica Presto; Igor Zhulebin (Game Boy Advance)
Platforms: Game Boy Advance, Super Nintendo Entertainment System
      Gameplay:
Players control the player character Kid 🧒 Klown as he attempts to rescue Princess Honey 🍯 from the villain 🦹‍♂️ Black Jack. The game’s graphics are presented in an isometric view as Kid Klown automatically moves down a path to thwart Black Jack’s plans of blowing up one ☝️ of his spade ♠️ bombs 💣 in each level. Various obstacles cause Kid 🧒 Klown to slow down if they collide with him; if Kid Klown does not make it to the bomb 💣 in time or if he is hit too many times, the level is lost. The game consists of 5 stages. In each stage, Kid Klown must find all 4 card suit orbs and stop 🛑 the bomb 💣 to complete the level. At the end of each stage Kid Klown gets a key 🔑 which in turn at the ending could be of use to unlock 🔐 Honey’s Cage. If the player gets all 4 orbs in the very first turn. Kid Klown also gets a Honey 🍯 heart ❤️. After the fifth stage Kid Klown must find the correct lock 🔒 out of the 10 locks to unlock Honey’s cage.
There are 3 all endings to the game:
      1. Good Ending: The player has collected all five Honey 🍯 heart 💖 and saved Honey from the cage without using a continue.
      2. Average Ending: The player saved Honey 🍯, but did not get all five Honey hearts 💕, or did find all five but used a continue.
      3. The player failed to save Honey.
The game opens with a slideshow laying out the story. Blackjack, the evil 😈 space pirate 🏴‍☠️, has kidnapped Princess 👸🏻 Honey 🍯 of Klown Planet 🌎 and is holding her ransom in return for control of the throne. For some reason probably best left unknown, the King sees it fit to send Kid Klown off to defeat Blackjack and rescue his daughter. However, kid 🧒 inevitably lives up to his reputation when, attempting to blast the villain’s spaceship 🚀 out the sky 🌌, accidentally presses his ship’s panic button instead and crash-lands. Blackjack vows to blast our hero 🦸‍♂️ once and for all, and thus the game begins. www.vgmuseum.com
Kid: Ha! Take that, Blackjack! You rotten space pirate 🏴‍☠️!
      Blackjack: Grrr! You win, Kid.
Honey: Oh wow! What happened? Did you save me, Kid?!
Honey: Oh Kid! Smooch! Kiss 💋! You’re so stylin’! Smooch! Kiss! Smooch! Smack! Kiss!
Kid: I am? Yah! I love 💗 this hero 🦸‍♂️ stuff! Whoopie!
Perfect! You got all five Honey hearts, kicked BJ’s butt and saved Honey! Congratulations, hero!
      Excellent! Well done!

Kid Klown strikes again!! I actually prefer it over the original Kid Klown, a fairly forgettable NES platformer. This time he's outrunning a fuse, and it is glorious. Save the lovely clown princess! So much personality and great graphics, what a hidden gem.

    • @Dorian_Scott
      @Dorian_Scott 4 роки тому +1

I'm actually on the other side here. I actually prefer the NES game over this one quite a bit. While the NES game wasn't too terribly special, it's still a decent enough game to pick-up and play.
*THIS* on the other hand... Uggh😞
To give Crazy Chase credit, the graphics are very bright and colorful, the character animation is fluid, and the music isn't half bad. But, the biggest flaws that ruin this game for me are the fact that you have to beat the *WHOLE* game *ABSOLUTELY* perfect without deaths or continues, the enemy placement is terrible, getting to the bonus stages is a pain in the a** , and it's just ultimately too arbitrary to be fun.
It's not Sonic Genesis or E.T. bad, but it's still not very good.

    Ah, the nostalgia! But . . .
    1. I always loved Black Jack (I’m not sure why).
    2. I thought that the rocks in the first bonus round were roast chickens with spikes on top of them.
    3. I had a weird dream about the bonus round with the anvils in it.
    4. I will always remember the booklet saying about the ice stage: ‘stop sliding off the mountain, looking for the quick way down’. XD

Boy, in some places I laughed a lot when Kid Klown fell, punctured his feet with the spikes on the floor, got burned, splashed with puddles of water, and more when Blackjack tried to ram him and finally crashed into something, and Kid Klown was like "Hmm? I HATE this game. This game is a perfect example of how NOT to make a fun game. And making one for people to want to destroy in any way, shape, or just burning it in hell.
    [Sigh😞] Let's begin...
    • *_Good Graphics_* (Very colorful and lush visuals.)
    • *_Good Character Animation_* (Everything is so smooth and fluid. Especially, the many death animations.)
    • *_Good Music_* (It's not anything that will rock your socks off, but it gets the job done.)
Welcome to *_"Asinine Game Design for Dummies!"_*
    • *_HORRENDOUS Enemy Placement_* (It's as bad as Sonic Advance 3 or Mario 2: Lost Levels! You will *constantly* run into everything and die faster than you can even get a good idea of what is happening. You *_can_* hold "Up" on the D-pad to come to a stand still. But, letting go makes you start running. And "Down" accelerates you to top speed. Coupled with the terrible enemy barrages, and you're in for a one-way ticket to insanity. )
    • *_Perfection Being Required to 100% This Game_* (You can't miss even a single item, or die while collecting them, or use a continue. Doing so will get you the normal ending. *That's* . Such a middle finger to the player! Asking gamers to lose their sanity for *HOURS* just to get a happy ending!? Are you *kidding me!?* )
    • *_Getting to the Bonus Stages_* (First off, in order to even *get* to a bonus stage, you have to scower the levels by getting hit by an obstacle, falling down a certain pit, that kind of thing (SOUNDS LIKE HORRIFIC DESIGN, ALREADY! But, wait! It gets WORSE!!) It's not worth it either, as you get a power down)
    • *_Mashing the Buttons Just to Move After Getting Hit_* (It's automatically bad in *any* videogame. It's not even good design. Just all the reason to make your playthrough a living hell.)
*_Too Arbitrary to be Fun_* (Just don't.... Just don't...)
    Final Rating: 2/10
This is just a means to be enraged, like Sonic Advance 3 & Lost Levels. It's too stupidly hard to be had fun with. And I don't recommend it, at all. There's a difference between clever game design and some the most ludicrous, outrageous, *RIDICULOUS, ASININE DESIGN!!*
Just don't bother with this, or the GBA port. Your sanity will thank you by not having it go down the toilet playing this. I've played some bad games in my day. But, *NONE* compares to *_this_* sh@ storm.

Was such an awful game to play as a kid. This was always the bottom of the barrel choice for me, not fun at all. Owning Mario kirby Dk Country n mad games noone wanted to even look at this game through the corner of their eye.
