- Parliament Funkadelic give Chocolate City more for what they are funkin for with "One Nation Under a Groove." Complete with great singing by Garry and Junie, bass playing by Skeet, and leading by George.
Glen died in 1977 unfortunately...his voice was unique, he was outstanding.
aint no party like a p-funk party cause a p-funk party don't stop. and it's true, they don't stop. they will play until they pass out on the stage. i found that out on a night I went to the concert and had to go to work the next morning...thank god for sick time.
If they ever build a time machine one of my 1st stops will be to see these guys live in concert!
Facts!!!!!
I saw them in 2000 in Chicago, but very watered down compared to back in the 70#$. Bill Clinton didn't even come out to sing until 45 minutes into their set. It was at Taste of Chicago in Grant Park.
parliament is the best that ever did their shows are a piece of history i have seen them in concert a few times and i will die a better music lover for it .the stage presents of george clinton is what i would call god like as far as live shows goes
Today's Rap Hip hop ain't got SHIT OF THIS "GROVE"
"Mash down on that shit!"
Gary Shider- One helleva musician- You kept it Funky brother. RIP
When performances were live and worth every cent!! thnx
AWESOME!
The male vocalist doing the falsetto? That'd be Junie.
YES....
HEEE HEEE feet don't fail me now....
YES!!
I know your right. That must have been a wild place with George goin' off like this....
I REMEMBER THE TALKING SKULLS ON STAGE THAT SAID "I WANT A JOINT"
Feet dont fail me now!
@Cykomiser I went to shows in the 1970's when the concert let out at 3-4 am in the morning. I was made to go to school.
R.I.P Garry Shider the "Diaperman".
The funk is all in the feet. You know you are in trouble if your feet fail you now or whenever, if that happens ---- getting it on the good foot will become a moot point anyway, and what could have possibly been funkier than a pair of George Clinton's socks at the conclusion of a P-Funk show ---- in that most chocolate of all cities, circa 1979 ---- Washington DC?
P Funk and LSD...winning combo everytime
How many times did I see the Mothership land? I don't know but I'd do it all over again and bring my grandsons along for the education in real instruments, harmony, groove and an Aqua boogie affair!
@meljr That wasn't Dennis Chambers. It was Tyrone Lampkin on drums along with Larry Fratangelo on the percussions
yes sir!
@blackrocknutt WHAT?! That sounds just like George. OK, I looked it up; lead vocals were given to Gary, George, and Junie. Never knew that. You were right.
I like junies signature tid bits on this clip, thanx...by the way if you can find his bread alone album let me know there was a jam on there called jock rock it was the shit ..ok bye
Listen to Junie!
They do this so well. This jam has a lot going on with it by way of instrumentals, vocals, etc.. George orchestrating, keepin'em in line and time......just luv the way they brought their music to life.... ....I don't know if music today can "get it on my good foot" like back in the day.. LOL!!!! 1979 I was 8th grade baby!! Remember this so well.
Man this is great. George is trippin' on this one. I luv it when he tells the band to "mash down on it, push this shit all the way to the ground." Pick this shit up BABY!!! "Here's my chance to dance my way.....out of my constriction".......Feet don't fail me now.....Man, this jam will live on...That Clinton is a trip!
THIS IS THE SONG THAT BLEW THEM UP BIG TIME. THEY HAVE MANY MORE JAMS!! BUT THIS IS THE ONE!! 5 21..
Yes!!!! Thank you!!!! 1Nation4Life
2021 n still we ain’t one nation under nathin 😔
RIP Gary...
That'is really funny. I was returning from the City today, beautiful day, successful meeting, hit a "brick wall" traffic jam, didn't panic, turned on the iPod system in the car and out jumps "Freak of the Week!!! Next thing I know, fellow drivers around me, also stuck, began "jammin" in their cars. HaHaHa! Just like that, we have Parliament instantly turn an unpleasant mess into a GOOD THANG!!! LONG LIVE DA FUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Freak of the Week!! ?! Your's truly on Bass. :)
Feet dont fail me now!!!
I CAN SAY THIS, GARRY STOOD BY GEORGE TIL HIS DEAT, AND SO DID GLENN AND EDDIE... LOYAL... FUZZY??? MICHAEL??
Anthony Howard Glen was fired, Eddie had a bizarre affair he left, came back. left all complained about low pay sometimes no pay
Great band. Everybody is so damn tight.
I'd say this version is so much better than the rather boring studio version.
Even though everybody is stoned and it seems like wild happening, the boys and girls are realy kickin'it - on the One !
5 min? Man thats how they play this song live, great since the begining no problems here....great band great song, long live the p.
-Atomic Dog
This show's Uncle George at his best, the bands fallin apart, watch G.C the Driver of he MotherShip, lead this track and the crowd into the Groove.
this ones 4 obama, ready or not here we come
glen died in july 1978 - wikipedia article on him. he died during the making of the quazar album - a band with his brother.
Great!! Thanks for posting :)
A Funkateer for life is what you be once the funk has oozed into your nostrals
an taken you up too the mothership! And if you where there when they took the stage
at Cobo Hall Detroit City, back in the day with " Tiki" playing, you know what I mean. Ciao
LOL...Yo god...LOL
P-funk is the truth of the matter!
whats that badass
riff at the
beginning?!?!!
it sounds so badass.
yabbadabbadoo!
was this at the cap centre, landover? if so I was there!
YEP....I THINK EVERYBODY FROM DMV WAS THERE
Is that Larry Fratangelo on percussion?
Say ONE NATION......
YOWL!!! I'm going to see him tonight in Cols!!!! SO EXCITED
I interviewed someone who went on a homeless tour through 14 states and she said the majority of those she saw in shelters were children. It's also a fact that over ten million children feel hunger pains in the US every day. I've talked to countless homeless people and there is not "always a way to get help," not even close. Obama's so similar to Bush Governor Christie brought this up recently, and how pleased he was about it. We all have a common ancestor out of Africa and are thus all related.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
on the flagpole at school, jammin' to this song!!!
They were so incredibly tight these years!
Them boys were smokin some good stuff back then and probably still today. But they were and are hellova musicians!!!!!!!!
So were we 😮😮
😊

Glen died in 1984...
Glen died in 1978
It was at the Cap Center and I was there!!! Kind of bothered me that George didn't sing lead during this live song; I KNOW it's his lousy vocals on the allbum version - lol
@nebula34 tochae'
