Just dont forgett the fact that Stanley Kubrick died 6 days after this movie came out.
The author of the novella the film is based on, Arthur Schnitzler, did not last very long after telling the story either. He died 5 years after publishing the book "Traumnovelle" at the age of 69 of a similar "condition." Coincidently a year younger than Kubrick.
6 days after showing the final cut to Warner Brothers. The movie released much later in July

for all the music nerds out there...i just LOVE the fact the pianist is actually playing the score with proper gear (even triggering the voice samples) you would have found in a home studio back in the days, with the mpc and other sample based stuff which is definitely needed to play not-so-keyboard-like sounds, such a cool detail!

When you think about it in context, knowing what we know about Kubrick's filmography, it probably wouldn't be too far-fetched to correlate the "Bear Scene" in The Shining as perhaps two people that had participated in one of these ceremonies while they were still alive.
For all its flaws, this film has some unbelievably hypnotic moments.

The masks used in this scene remind me of the shaman masks which were used by shamans as a form of protection and power against evil spirits. The setting feels like a world in between worlds where humans and evil spirits can be present at once. This scene terrified me more than any typical horror movie.
