The mid to late 90s were truly the Golden era of gaming for me. I couldn't imagine coming of age in any other era.

The original Wii version of Xenoblade is def a "game I love to watch move." Lots of people say that it looks blurry and shitty now, but to me its one of the most beautiful game ever. There is a sheer ambition that bleeds through the presentation for a Wii game, and I think that sense of labored ambition is a big part of the games identity, being a massive intricate RPG on a console which otherwise had a reputation for being the #1 console for geriatrics. That identity feels kind of missing in the switch version of the game, which opts for a very plastic-y squeaky clean aesthetic for its character models.

I love this idea, and this is a very interesting game! Like the Bouncer- another game which I’ve only heard of because of you- it seems like something which was a big deal at the time and has since just never been talked about much and never been rereleased.
Sometimes an old, visually ‘dated’ game still manages to be impressive because you think you know what the hardware can do and it goes beyond it. I first played FF8 in 2020, and being able to move Squall while an anime cutscene was playing really surprised me
Only downside of talking about games like this is that they’re not very easily available, obviously, but at least Super Fantasy Zone is on the Switch’s Mega Drive NSO stuff and although I can’t have played more than 10 minutes of Sega All-Stars Racing I remember the name Opa-Opa
