Instead of kameos they should just give every character an actual deep set of moves and specials so they dont get boring af using the same exact 2 strings over and over.
MK needs actual game developers, like proper software engineers to optimize the game and actual, PROPER, game designers. Anyone with 2 functioning brain cells can see that their most popular games are MK9 and MKX, so why not just extract what made these games good and put it in one game?
mk9 and mx are fan favorites but mk11 sales were miles ahead (i believe 11 sales are equal to 9 plus x) so im sure wb pushed nrs to keep the core mk gameplay slow placed unlike 9 and x

Honestly this chaotic system wouldve worked if they just patched the game more frequently. When you nerf or buff a kameo, you do the same to all the characters who synergize with it. If they patched balance monthly, his game would've survived (and lower prices)
I completely agree with your stance on kameos, while they allow for lots of creativity, cool combos, and lots of character variations, I think too many kameo moves make things safe with little to no counter play, it’s annoying and doesn’t take much brain power. Add in ways to counter these things and I think the game would be in a better state. I personally like kameos but they need tweaking.
Kameos ARE variations. It's just a pool of moves that every fighter has access to. Some fighters benefits more from having just one specific move from that pool, and others have more range of options, but everyone has access to all these options equally. Just because ermac mains refuse to switch off Janet or Sindel mains refuse to switch off tremor doesn't mean that the system itself is bad. People are just inherently lazy.
Kameos are similar, but the huge difference is variations don't save you from unsafe moves when you overcommit. The issue is that people turn their brains off and use Kameos to cover their butts and play neutral for them. It's understandable why people are bothered by them since they carry most players.

The people who say they like the Kameo System and that this is the most fun they've had playing fighting games, is because now they are finally winning at fighting games with a better W/L ratio because the Kameo System is huge aid to their lack of skill. I'm 32 years old and have been playing fighting games off and on for about 28 years... So I have a decent idea of how to play them. My Lil cousin who started playing MK games at MK11, has picked up MK1 Omni-Man X Jax and now can somehow be on par with my 28 years of experience compared to his off and on 5 years. That's how much of a carry Kameos are.

I actually love kameos they give alot of creativity to the players I think they will be amazing if throw and armor lunchers damage is nerfed to do minimal 18% and nerf free safe mix that ferra gives I think we will have a very fun game which is very close to that hope next patches we have will do that
I think people were scared of kameos in concept, but it just turned out to be a variation system. I think the dirt is just too much like Injustice 1, and people dont like cheap aspects of MK. It is the only bad aspect of early MKX, very cheap.
Kameos gonna be good when they add to EACH of them universal tools like F+R1 with Mavado or Jax's Kameo Grab. If they balance it right, make it spent all of your Kameo meter and part of YOUR meter for example (like Mavado's), but make these moves worth it, I think they will solve most of the problems. Remember how Spawn in MK11 was only character with armor break and then they gave it yo all character? They should do the same here

I like kameos but I think they'd be MUCH better if they increased the cooldowns of the kameo meter across the board. Make them all 50% longer so we see less kameos during the match.

I feel like the devs don't even know how to test what they are putting in the game. They add 50 percent combos at launch, take them out, and then add a new kameo and 50 percent combos again. Like if they don't want em test natara ferra and actually take it out don't add it remove it and add it again like 50 times over again.
A lot to unpack with kameos. 1) This game has never been a tag team, it's a 1v1 with assists. It's still 1v1 even if you're calling another character because you don't directly control them. 2) D1 special is atrocious and if it were up to me it would only exist on hit, not make some stupid mindgame of special or not. 3) I've always thought throw combos are cool and to whoever it really bothers I say learn to tech forward every time so its not a guess and the most you're losing is 11% and most likely getting put back to neutral. I do like kameos but things could def be better, they def won't be in another MK game. I think a universal pushback like Mavado has for every kameo would be a good addition.

yes. Everything else though, can go burn in the netherrealm. And the Kameos too. They can be good. But it really robbed from the main cast. Only a handful of characters feel reasonably complete.
Yeah I think you put it well kameo gameplay designs were kinda horrid in this game, like on paper they can be nice and can be fun at times but also can encourage very braindead/scrubby play as you mentioned so I don’t think they were implemented well. I’m a Nitara main and while she did become good with the buffs and ferra it’s the most braindead she’s ever played and I actually don’t really have fun with her anymore or feel like I’m earning wins, Khameleon she at least had to be a bit more cautious back then and her dive kick was still unsafe but now yikes. Balance in general not just kameos is horrid for this game.
I think part of the problem with kameos is they their moves don’t have enough nuance. They should really have meterless meter burn versions of their moves. A full bar of kameo meter really isn’t enough for what some of them do. Like khameleon for example has moves that in the past cost meter to do. Mileenas overhead ball roll cost meter, moves like the jade glaive always cost meter, even kitanas fan only lifted you up from the ground if you meter burned it, other wise you’d stay grounded. Also none of the characters are fully complete. As far as I know no one can do a full combo on their own without a kameo. Mileena being the exception but even she has to spend a bar. Kitana almost can but spending a bar doesn’t really get her anywhere unless she uses a kameo.
kameos make the game less fun and less competitive. they arent very creative in their implementation, and i would have preferred tag based fighting or atleast kameos restricted to unique nuetral tools, fun gimmicks, and combo extensions, not a braindead feature where you hit a button and make an unsafe move safe and then turn playing like an idiot into a mindgame
Hot take: they never should have re-reverted cyrax's side helicopter cooldown. I say this as a baraka main and i just feel like cyrax completes him in a way that no other kameo can. If the cooldown was slightly longer, i feel it would be fun and not to busted.
I feel like kameos just lack interactivity and depth. So often it just comes down to do i have kameo, then mash kameo. U cant guess right on defense on kano knives or kano ball or granades or glaive there just isnt an option to do anything. If there was a way to call out a kameo call and u win the interaction even if u could get hit for calling it out this game would actually make u think on defense and offense.
They should have had a universal way to counter kameo calls if you know they are gonna call it and the movado push block should be universal and no armour move should let you call kameo if it’s blocked

Kameos AND fatal blows are the reason I stopped playing the game. Kameos for all the reasons you said. Fatal blows = the most brain dead comeback mechanic that returns on block or whiff. At least in MKX xrays required actual meter

Poke special is the main thing stopping this game from being enjoyable, i feel like it violates the most fundamental aspect of fighting games.

theres alot of characters that can do combos on their own without kameos, like rain, scorp, sub zero, etc. but ya some should cost meter

Tremor, Kano, Janet, mavado, khammy are probable the best balanced kameos imo. I’d say Goro but his refill time makes him unplayable in this meta

We all know how crazy mkx was but they should just improve on that gameplay and If they wanna try new things do it as extra game modes, we need LEGIT extra game modes anyways. whether its NRS or WB please stop trying to reinvent and start refining the gameplay, itll save you from using up resources to solve the problems you've solved in prior releases
Kameos AND fatal blows are the reason I stopped playing the game. Kameos for all the reasons you said. Fatal blows = the most brain dead comeback mechanic that returns on block or whiff. At least in MKX xrays required actual meter

I liked the idea of Kameos; it was just poorly executed. Maybe my controller sucks OR MY old self; but its so hard to remember all these combinations & all these timings. I cant win one match Online. Do you think having auto combo system just in the beginner Kombat league;; would help casual players like me? Also;; I think having a No Nerf version would make the game more fun for casuals.
Is there Any hope for Invasions? Yeah, they added more variety;; but now..... I cannot even get 100% on any mesa!!
