  • Tom has featured on this channel before in his Porsche 987.2 Base Cayman. He got the itch for a 981 GTS in 2019, and after several months of searching, missing out on a few cars, he finally got there in 2020.
In this video Tom kindly shares his journey to bag his 981 GTS, with a little help from his brothers.

Thanks so much Max for the time and effort to make this video. These videos are so time consuming for Max compared to the the typical live stream videos. I and I think your subscribers appreciate the time you put into this channel. If anyone has any questions for me or corrections to any of my statements, please let me know.

Well said Tom. 👍I enjoy all this excellent channels content but am struggling to find time to contribute so I really appreciate that Max and others like you have made the time, even though it makes me feel guilty! When I finish remodeling 3 properties I'm cuurently involved in, I hope I will be able contribute my part to this great channel. Thanks for what you Max and others have done.

Thanks guys. This channel is a passion of time, yet also a time black hole. My wife has been asking I paint the house for a while now, DIY tasks are building up, at some point I need to take a break from YT and get on top of my work outside of work! Until then, I’ll keep the content coming, and thanks to everyone like Tom and the rest that contribute the material. It’s a good feeling when it all comes together. All I need now is some recognition from the marketing department at Porsche, so I get invited to drive their cars on track! Hahahaha, I can at least dream ;-)

Max how are you? Seriously, I see other guys getting to drive "PRESS CARS" not sure if thats their name, with channels that have a lot less brand enthusiasm and truthfully i ask myself that question, How does this guy get to borrow this car for a couple of days or a week and you don't. Are you knocking on the right door? The whole reason why I got another Porsche after such a long period was from watching your Cayman generation comparison video.

    • @MAXREVS

Hi Rob. Marketing departments look at the number of subscribers a channel has. Simple as that. When I first started this channel you could buy 1,000 subscribers for around £50. Back then UA-cam didn’t police this stuff. So I could have got myself 10k subscribers to look popular. Plus folks are more inclined to subscribe if they see a channel with lots of subscribers.
I didn’t go down that route. Who would I be kidding? Just me. I sucked up the fact it took me nearly 2 years to get 1,000 subs. End of the day the people here make this channel. Real passionate people. One day when a marketing person realises it’s about quality not quantity I may get a look in. However doubt it. It’s one big popularity contest to get the attention of car manufacturers.
In the meantime I’ll make do with great subscribers like yourself! Remember, if you ever need someone to babysit your GT3 while you’re on vacation😜🤣

Congratulations Tom. You definitely know how to do your homework and are lucky with your brother's.👍 I have that luck too and also got my car through Car Gurus. I have to say the black wheels with the red calipers contrasting with the white looks great. I'm not usually drawn to white but when done this way it's a very smart and classy look. I think the black headlamp accents also add to that combination. Enjoy it! It sounds fantastic. Would love to see and hear some more so maybe you should send Max some of it being driven! No pressure though! 😁

Another driver focused video would be useful to get some more insight, and hear that exhaust. It was a great video Tom. Big takeaway points for me?
      1) The ride difference. As you said, it’s not between PASM on/off, it’s simply moving from the 987.2 to the 981. This is something I have been thinking about for some time now. How many people truly know what their car is SUPPOSED to feel like? My point being, if we buy a used 987 which could be anything from 8-14 years old when we buy it, what can we compare it to as a reference point? Only someone who drove that car new from the factory would truly know. I have felt clutches of varying stiffness, ride handling of varying degrees of hardness, all on the same models of cars. This leads me to believe it’s how the car has been affected by wear and tear over the years. I’m principally thinking of the rubber components in the bushes in all the suspension pieces. Anyhow, your comments on ride are leading me to get all my wearable suspension items checked out.
      2) The sound, the sound, the sound. In one of the clips you really made a point of this. It’s a big deal to men of our age, and I can report I have just paid-up the $$$ for a Soul Performance valved exhaust system. It’s not cheap for me being in the UK, as I have the shipping, and what’s worse the import duty to pay when it comes into the UK. It will be more expensive than original PSE fitted on my car, and that’s not including the labour to fit onto the car. My logic was to stop thinking about the resale of the car, I mean, who am I kidding? Am I really going to find £50,000 and trade-up to a 981 GT4? From research the factory PSE on a 987 isn’t that much of a difference. I believe the cracks and pops on your 981 GTS are software induced via the ECU programming, it’s not the exhaust pipe entirely. I won’t get cracks and pops, but I will get that sound which should add to my experience. Am I spending good money on an old car? Yes, but I guess it makes sense if I’m holding onto it for many more years to come.
Have you told your PCA local group yet?!?!

Thanks for posting. I like the black and white contrast. You got a great price on it too. There was a 2016 white GTS in Palm Springs California for around $70,000 USD. Low miles. I use the Porsche website used car locator. Check it out if you haven't already. Live live to the Max!

Hi Andy, aren’t you the guy someone wanted to feature on a livestream ;-) Question please, can you share the “regular maintenance” you perform on the steering wheel? I fancy the Alcantara on the seats and the steering wheel. Though didn’t know there was a method to keep it in factory condition. We gotta hook once it’s safe. Don’t care what anyone tells me, the 981 GT4 is my dream car. With my knowledge I’d swap out the headers right away!

@@MAXREVS Livestream? Who? What? When? Where? :-) I would love to swap the headers out for some that are less restrictive but, again, it would mean invalidating the Porsche warranty. As for the Alcantara, I don't actually know if there's a special method but I have my own methods. For the seats and upholstery I use nothing more than a soft upholstery brush to tease out any debris, and then a vacuum cleaner. I have never had to use anything more as I've - thankfully - never had a spillage or accident that warranted any further cleaning beyond that! As for the wheel... I'll explain in Wazzi's reply...

Grats on your new car! I DO think the white draws looks, and people are also intrigued by the mid-engine shape. Do you autocross or track your car? It handles amazingly well. I think in part due to the chassis stiffness that takes advantage of the trick PASM system. You can check out some of my runs in my profile if you wanna check out performance under heavy cornering.
