RJ Corman Loop Creek Branch Coal Train Interchanging @ CSX Mainline, Thurmond West Virginia!

- Опубліковано 25 сер 2024
- RJ Corman Railroad Company bringing a huge loaded coal train down to CSX interchange in Thurmond, West Virginia. Remote coal town with 2 railroad companies, a unique railroad/automobile bridge, a restored station still used by Amtrak and a population of 5! This spells awesomeness~! We chased a couple lite locomotives up the 16 mile branch and then filmed them coming onto the CSX mainline. The coal train is seen coming onto the main in the heart of the town and then backing east down the main. Then we show the locomotives run around the train to hook onto the other end so another crew can continue the move east. I also show the rails before and after the train. It takes 5 locomotives to get the train out of the loadout at Pax. A few miles before Thurmond, the 2 RJ Corman locomotives were set off on a siding. Trains go very slow on the branch to Pax and it takes 2 hours to go the 16 miles. A truck can been seen in the video following the train on the branch. A crew member in the truck lines the switches and removes the derail for the coal train. Listen in on 160.230. Recorded Friday, October 12, 2018. Also check out my friends band Chaos Ritual. www.reverbnati... Thanks for watching! Please comment, rate and SUBSCRIBE TO JAWTOOTH!!

I like all your videos, but I think this is your best so far. Great close up action! Thanks, Mr. Tooth!
Thank you Crush!
I have been to Thurmond several times and this video about the train making the run to Pax is one of the best Jaw Tooth has ever done. The bridge over the New River is wonderful to walk.
One of the very best JT. Love the echos of horns off the hills, the rivers and bridges and of course the close up action - just like my HO! Frank, Chichester,UK
Sure was a lot of train action in that one. Great video. I love the sound of a Train Horn out in the Hillsides where it echos forever. Thanks Jaw Tooth
Beautiful little town... Bet there's some great fishing in that river... I worked for RJ in Kentucky about 15 years ago, only for a few months, something better came along. Nice vid JT
Of all your great videos I like this one the best. I grew up in West Virginia, in Princeton, but I am just now beginning the explore the New River Gorge National Park. I have been to Thurmond three times, and it is like a trip back in time! Absolutely fascinating. I knew nothing about the Loop Creek Branch to Pax, but your video makes it come alive, especially the part of the video that follows the RJ Corman locomotives up the branch to near US 19. The coal train that comes back and transitions on to the main line is great to watch. This video really tells well the story of WV coal and the countless rail spurs that trail off into the mountains to bring it back and eventually to people all over the world. Keep up the good work!
Thurmond is definitely the best place for railfanning in my opinion Jaw Tooth! I love the beautiful scenery and the trestle over the New river. You definitely got some cool coal trains in this one! Coal trains are my favorite kind of trains for sure! The old buildings, the National bank of Thurmond, the Mankin building, and old coal tower are truly awesome Jaw Tooth! I know it would be a great view from the top of that tower, but I'm afraid of heights! Anyway, really awesome video of some awesome coal trains and historic train station with museum.
Amazing video in FULL!,👌🏿👆👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿💯🤗😋🤠
Thankfully locomotives have steerable trucks, otherwise I believe rails would cry!
Never too old, the video 👍🏿
Great work Jaw Tooth 🦷😄🤜🤛
The beauty of an well build railroad bridge..A art of its own..thanks jaws..
Couldn't agree more!
4TH time viewing “THURMOND”, one of my AL TIME FAV’s!
Absolutely fan-dang-tastic video JT. Excellent work. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed on this one!!! Many gthanks!!!
I AM IN BRAZIL BUT I AM YOUR NEW FOLLOWER AND BUILDER OF THE ONLY RAILWAY FERRLEO LIVESTEAMER ON SCALE 1/10 THE FERRERO !!!!!, SENSATIONAL VIDEOS THANK YOU
Thanks for that long distance shot at the Gantry Signalling, this is always one of my favorites prior & during changing.😎👌👍
Great to see the return of the coal industry.
Love coal trains. I live in Valdosta Georgia we have a huge CSX yard here. And Norfolk Southern.
I worked at the scout camp near Glen Jean for 6 summers. My wife would ride Amtrak to Thurmond or Prince from Indianapolis at the end of the season and we would drive through some awesome country on our way home. I watched trains all over that area when I was off. Thanks
9:07 Look at that beautiful old style railroad signal with semaphore arm.. Just a wonderful picture with the station and the bridge and the signal..
Cool video. Was just down there a couple weeks ago. When I was down there in 2013, I caught an empty coal train going up the branch as I was driving to Thurmond, and then in 2014, I caught a loaded coal train coming down the branch to Thurmond. Got a great pic of it and a westbound intermodal waiting at the Thurmond station (train on both sides) while they waited for an eastbound tanker train. Quite something to get a 3-way meet there. On that day, they pulled the coal train into the siding on the other side of the old C&O coal tower, ran the locomotives around up there, and then left it there for CSX to take.
Awesome! 3 trains at once would be like the good old days. We also caught Amtrak right when it got dark.
Yeah, when I go down, I spend the afternoon down there and then head home after catching the Cardinal. Not as many trains as a lot of places I railfan, but it's a very relaxing trip.
No, I never have seen a bridge like this until now. It's unique! Enjoy your train videos and love your trademark sayings: "Start the video, son" and: "But wait, there's more"!
Nice, my nephews and I enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing!!!
Love those trestles!!! Nice job! ☺
I love it when you guys catch them on this line! I think it’s very scenic and cool as hell!
Great video. I see you video a lot around Cincinnati also. I live up the road in Lebanon.
Wow that was a 100 car train and they backed it up quite a distance by the look of it, another very interesting video, thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Luv trains on old bridges!

Great video.I love the old building at the junction.
That was a great video. It sure looked like that river was raging bank to bank right up under the bridge. Really enjoyed it. Thanks 👍👍👍❤️
Glad you enjoyed it
That river is a hoot to raft on. Side note; my mother and a lot of family is from that area. As a kid in the summer I spent a lot of time around Summersville and that area long before the big bridge was ever thought of.
Cool, I wish I could have seen it back then
@@JawTooth Beautiful area and great scenic backroads. Just be sure to have strong brakes on your vehicle .
BTW, If memory serves me the movie "Matewan" about the mining wars Ie " Matewan War 1920 was filmed there in 1987. Thurmond was a stand in location.
Man, this one was so cool! Lots of curved track, switches and a bridge. Busy rail intersection and great scenery. Even some unique-looking crossings. Very cool stuff where you were shadowing the train engines from the road, too. Awesome!
This is another awesome video that piped up.
Cool, cool location.
👍👍👍👍👍 Jawtooth!
Awesome Video. Love that bridge. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! Look at all that coal! Nice to see it. All the best to everyone in Thurmond, WV.

Same here.. Truly a wonderful man. I wish I could have met him..
A rare breed in this day and age. Few and far between.
Love the “Weight Limit 10 Tons” sign

I filmed a couple other coal trains, a mixed freight and Amtrak at Thurmond for a future video.
That's a very tight turn coming around to the bridge.
Nic e video. Love the C&O depot wither yellow siding and gingerbread wainscoating.
That depot was in the movie called "Maitland". It was filmed right here. I have it on DVD. Thanks for watching James!
Don't forget the classic 2-blade semaphore Train Order signal!
Tooth, you the man.Keep it up
Thanks, you too!
Hey JT, nice catch, great video. Beautiful West Virginia scenery. My wife’s parents and family were from Beckley about 20 miles south west of Thurmond. 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Awesome! I drove through Beckly a few weeks ago
I've been watching them for over a year now, keep up the good work, P.S. I retired from working on British Rail (Now Networkrail) 3 years ago. I served for 45 years as a Signalman (Now called Signallers), you would know them there as , all the best.
Thank you for your comments on my videos and for watching my videos!
By far one of your best videos. The scenery is very cool with the mountains and bridges. Super job!!
Thank you very much!
Very verry interesting! Too often we h've seen freight trains on main lines ans it's rare too get one stream on jonctions and see the real works as operations going and back...
Love that shot at the junction.
Heck with the rest! Jaw Tooth’s the best!!! NAILED ALL THE SIGNALS TOO!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Really boss place to see trains.
Loved this video Bri.....one of my favs.
If Thurmond had tracks coming through town and had a greasy spoon scrambled eggs n bacon place Id visit.
Plus looks like a nice river to fish in too.
Glad you enjoyed it! They have almost all of that. You just need to bring your own food
I walked all around this town once. It was used as the set for the John Sayles film ‘Matewan’ about the coal wars of the 1920’s and the formation of the United Mine Workers Union. It’s hard not to notice that the railroad was Mainstreet in these old towns. The downtown buildings always directly faced the railroad tracks.
I have that movie on DVD. Good movie.
used to hear and see trains around here all the time, I miss them now, thanks for sharing!
My friend was asking how far we were from Cass. I have another friend who wants to go there also. Anyway, thanks for watching and have a great weekend Randy!
Cass is awesome
RJ Corman. One of the best men to ever live in the country.
I got to finally watch this operation by following the train down the line as it headed to Thurmond. on Mar. 5, 2020
Awesome!
If you get a chance to watch the R.J. Corman story on here, I highly recommend it. Inspiring to say the least!
I just saw it tonight. Fantastic story of rags to riches.
I love it! Rick was the example of what every ceo should be like and how they should treat hardworking employees.
definitely it brought a tear to me eyes
My dad lives right above the RJ corman line. I grew up watching trains from above. This line used to serve the Georgia Pacific Plant as well.
Nice video Jaw Tooth. I am a relatively new subscriber to your channel. I have a few railfan videos, but I live near a not so busy CSX, Housatonic, Amtrak line. I love trains, and my 2 year old goes crazy when he hears the horns.
Awesome. I miss living by the tracks. I lived by the tracks in a few places. Hope you enjoy my videos. Merry Christmas!
Some good looking coal there
Hey jaw tooth...love your work brother
Love the video!!! Don't know which one is better the train or the view, mountains & Bridges. Spectacular
Great video. I am a couple of oceans away, and in another hemisphere, and 3 yrs late but it feels like I am standing right there beside the line. Thanks mate. Really interesting.
That scenery really makes it a cool video. Nice job J T
Thanks 👍
I just saw the "Working Hard to be Lucky - the R.J. Corman story". He was a very unique person and someone I wish I could have met.

You made it to 100,000 subscribers -- Congratulations, Jaw Tooth!
for me to see these amaizing trains makes my day
Thank you Heather!
Nice catch thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
This whole scene has a lot of potential. Very interesting
I go to Thurmond alot and never once seen a train back down the main. You see it's places like this that really get your attention. Imagine what it looked like back then. You need to be there on Sundays, Wednesdays, or Fridays Amtrack goes through on those days. Hinton, WV will sometimes let a Steam Locomotive run through Thurmond. On Hintons Train Day. There must be an agreement between them and the company throughout Thurmond.
Imagine Thurmond in the days of steam.
Jawtooth, it"s a great comfort and a joy to see you and Warren (Buffett) communicating so well during these turbulent times in our country. Perhaps the two of you could help President Trump and the Congress deliver us from Covid-19 by Labor Day as well. Lord knows we all need help. Regardless, take care in tour travels.
Awesome catch my friend.
Holy hell! You got the Harvey Crossing in the video. My dad is actually the one who had them install the crossing lights. Used just be a cross buck there. My dad lives right above the tracks to the left of the crossing. That’s so awesome man.
Fantastic Video Clip ❤️👍
Very scenic area and great catch!
Thank you very much!
That bridge is epic! Interesting how it’s one lane for cars with the rail line right there beside it...makes me wonder if there wasn’t another line at one time, or maybe they added the roadway later because they figured they already had a bridge there
Se nota muy bien la HD. Muy bonito se oye el agua del rio, me encantó el lugar y las maniobras. Gracias
I never realized how beautiful that part of W. Va is! Thank ?//you
JT, I like this location.
I like it A+++
Thurmond, WV has a lot of history
3 buildings, station and the Loop Creek Branch
Do you know Thurmond futuring a 1987 coal mine documenting film
Called Matewan I watched the movie is about the history of the
1920 coal mine strike 7 miners and 6 agents are In a battle of Gunfire battle all were killed and the Thurmond Mayor was shot in the battle it might say it is haunted
If you never watched the movie Matewan, you got to see it to learn the history of the coal mining town.
Yes, that is an awesome movie. I have it on a DVD. It was filmed right there where I was. Thanks for watching!
although filmed in thurmond the actual shootout took place in matewan, mingo county. nor was the film a documentary, it was a dramatization of the mine wars taking place in and around "Bloody Mingo".
What beautiful scenery!
Jaw Tooth my grandparents Are about to live in West Virginia and they have been to that place before this is my favorite video when I’m bored I want to watch trains the engines are so cool in the cool cars we see them at Lewisburg West Virginia it’s really cool I love your vids great day bye

You're the best!
Great filming location for sure!! Never saw CSX yet in person but I really want to
You should! Thurmond West Virginia is a must see
Wow that was freaky. IRL not far from my apartment, is a set of tracks. theres a freight moving on it. ( no passenger service in this area) anyhoo the real life train sounds horn, then video train sounds horn, then real, then video. lol. anyhoo enough of my babbling. thank you for the upload. locomotives and trains in general have always been an interesting thing to me
thanks for sharing ,im really enjoying this
Glad you enjoy it!
@@JawTooth it was a good one ,i love seeing places like that
I heard direct from a company employee that the late RJ Corman was a wonderful guy! His railroad company runs the dinner train in Bardstown Ky--and I took the ride one time it and it is a great experience! Jaw Tooth, a fine job on your videos! I live in Cincinnati and hope to meet up with you sometime!
That would be awesome to meet you sometime! I rode the Bardstown dinner train and I also rode the Lexington dinner train before they discontinued it. Thanks for watching!
Great video! One of your best. Greetings from Belgium.
