Coal on the Loup Creek Branch in Thurmond, West Virginia

- Here are several videos I made into one that I took of CSX heading up the Loup Creek Branch to Pax, West Virginia to pick up a coal train and bring it down the mountain. First you see the 2 CSX locomotives leaving Thurmond, West Virginia on the Loup Creek Branch, then we see them at Harvey, West Virginia coming up the mountain towards Pax.
The next video is of them arriving back in Thurmond about 6 hours later with an additional locomotive and the loaded coal train.
They then move the train onto the main line, and back it up on the outside track and wait for a mixed freight to pass. They leave the train and run around it and hook up to the opposite end to head East with the loaded train. It was a very cool process to watch!
The Loup Creek Branch is operated by RJ Corman. They have a staging area located up the mountain from Thurmond where they store their locomotives. They put them on the rear of the train when it is coming down the mountain for additional braking capabilities.
You also see my good friend Jaw Tooth running around here and there in the video too. We spent the whole day there in October 2018. We saw around 5 trains all day, it was slow, but it was worth it just to get to check out all the historical buildings and whatnot there in between in the train action.

I am a confessed railfan, in fact I had applied to the Florida East Coast Railroad to be a radio technician for them. I was working though the screening and interview process when I talked to good friend that had that job at one time. There were some
conditions that were acceptable and others conditions which weren't acceptable.
Jaw Tooth said I have to check out your videos 😂😂

Thank you! I appreciate it!
I thought that white building looked familiar.
I hope all that coal is not designated for the North Pole as that would be an awfully lot of naughty children & adults on Santa's list.
Enjoy what you do, have fun in it & keep listening for those Rhythms of the Railroad!
Thanks for watching! Yes, if Santa needs that much coal, we are in big trouble! Lol
Why did CSX-468 pause after coming across the bridge? I didn't understand why it stopped just for pictures what the schedules. You don't want to miss the relief crew somewhere down the line.
The relief crew was on the way and the RJ Corman guys had to get the derail off the track before the train could move onto the main line. That was a long process!
👍
Thank you!
