I've seen lots of Chinese who were not working hard, and not achieve their goals....they are Chinese borned in Hong Kong, a place where Chinese culture was a bit fading. I'm Hongkonger too, but I was borned with Chinese personallity, I regard my work as artpiece, as a game, and my growth. I'm still working hard after retirement, researching in history, religion, mythology....ten hours per day.
Chinese culture was taught to children by telling stories to them. Those stories are about Chinese heroes who love , contribute and sacrifice for their country and family. Since Chinese history is thousands of years the parents can always pick the right stories for the right occasions to inspire their children. Also I want to add one thing that China is different from the west. Talk less, act more. 讷于言,敏于行。president Obama would never have any chance to be a Chinese president but he is so popular in the western world by just talking.
As someone grew up in China and now lives in Canada, I would say westerner are quick good at "吃苦"/“eating bitterness” when they do sports. They encourage their kids to get out of couch and practice sport skills hundreds of thousands times. They do believe in "Hard-practice makes perfection" when it comes to sports. I think that's good, it forges strong souls that the kids will be benefited from for the rest of their life. But strangely western parents are not as willing to push their kids hard academically (maybe they do traditionally, but not anymore). Asian parents that pushes their kids hard will be called out as "tiger moms"... It's almost accused like child abuse...
Too bad the “forged strong souls”they learn in sports as kids do not carry over as adults. How many beer bellied entitled hosers are crammed into sports bar reliving their athletic youths with drunken stories and complaining how immigrants are screwing them over now.
I'm reading a book atm, (The Geography of Thought) and it says that the Chinese don't work or study hard to ''feel good about themselves'' (The is a western concept); they do it for self-improvement. So, the end goal is never actually reached, as you can always do better. Better for the family, better for the community and better for the nation.
Thanks for your summary, those are good observation. All the ethics is coming from the thousands years value of Agricultural Society。and Generally, China has very few resouce but to many polulation. if you want to live better life, you have to work harder than others. That's why the work ethics come this way. We don't enjoy workhard, but have to.
There is a face value in most Chinese or Asian culture. Can also be called pride. It's not so much the money they lose when they clock in late but the face they lose for being late. You're right about the manager talk, we all know the limit where things get spiralled downwards and we are all fearful of it. 😆
Punctuality is important because it would affect the others especially in a meeting. I hate it when I have to wait for so many people in the meeting room and the meeting can't proceed.
Insightful ⭐ Lizzy whom to spend our time with if we don't have quality circle of friends or surrounding with same ambition or mission in a temporary new town ? Also what should we do to increase our value in that precious time apart from reading books & articles ..
That's the thing, you need to kind of get out there and go out to find that soecific group of driends, the foreign community is big but probably won't always find "that" special friendship at your work, buttt you could if you're lucky 😉. You'll definitely meet people. I would say traveling? It's so cheap and convenient and it's so interesting to learn about the culture here and the people
I agreed Chinese are wired differently than others. Even in US, I can see it in the workplace...like they would hire all these Asians for Key Data Operators positions and I can understand why...because they work hard and don't complaint. This is at Franchise Tax Board...there are like hundred of people working on that same position and yet as I go through the name, I see mostly Asian. So I was a bit surprise but then I understand why. You as a company want to hire people that give you result....with no if or but about it. Asian, they're quiet...sit down and do their work...whereas non-Asian like to walk around sometimes chatty and complaint when they get too much work....not saying all of them are that way...but at least I don't see Asian complain in such manner or not working hard. Is it a culture thing? Most likely. I am Chinese but I don't live in China rather I came from Vietnam.. Still we value education and working hard to get result growing up. I don't think it's much different from other parents or culture as children growing up...idk. I seen other races also preach about the important of education....but as far as working hard...I do notice that is something that separate Asian from others. I also view it as a duty or responsibility rather than working hard. People tend to use "working hard" as a excuse for Asian success and dismiss their accomplishments due to culture but it is more of a duty and responsibility mindset than anything else.
10:44 .. about the guy hating the job but still strives. ... Mindset is the idea that : the "company" is important to the country (the 'home'). Thus, if the "company" succeeds, so is the country (the 'home'). ... Notice how CN people 'sweeps' (with dedication) the public streets (the 'home'), compare to the West. Same idea.
Yeah exactly. They do see this as their home and they are proud of their country, so they strive to be a part of it's success. I agree with you completely
try to help you undersand more about 「chi ku」in chinese culture. If you understood chinese, you should google one famous chinese term 「天道酬勤」。Most chinese are not seriously religeous, but we still believe there are 「天道」- simliar as God‘s wish. 「天道酬勤」means God will reward those working hard people to give them better life. Now,do you understand why Chinese can accept 「chi ku」?😊
The West motto : "In the pursuit of happiness", well then you just have to spend that money. The Chinese motto: Save the money so you don't have to "eat bitterness" all he times.
i am a Chinese immigrated to Canada this year. I'd like to share some of my thoughts. Chinese are hardworking, diligent, saving money. that’s true. that’s why china has made so much progress since 1978. But not all the Chinese are like that. You work at an international school and your Chinese colleague must work hard to get a position there. They would have get fired if they didn’t work hard. The percentage matters. Say 25% of the Chinese work hard. 60% are just ok, 15% fool around. For black people 15% work hard, 15% are ok, the rest fool around. You got the idea. One important thing to take into consideration is the Chinese government does not have welfare for the lazy people. You cannot get anything by just saying you are a victim or black life matters. Actually, I think excessive social welfare worsens western society.
Chinese people always think that their children's life should be better than theirs. because of that they work hard, then the child will think that his child's life must be better than him, so he works hard anyway... 3_4 generations they will have rich offspring
Huawei, an employees owned company, made it through all the sanctions and hardships, still standing and profitable.
👏👏👏👏

Yeah Chinese do sacrifice a lot and work hard 👏👏👏
Omg! You are so spot on! And so smart to adopt what makes you a success! Cheers 吃苦!吃苦!
Yeah a lot to learn from the Chinese 😁

Yessss 👍 very true. Even personally, it's always been sport, not academics

The swallowing bitterness is such an important lesson and view on life!
Yes, really great 👍

China has a lot of resources, and its mineral resources are in the forefront of the world.
Thanks for the comment ☺️. Yes I agree, even though we don't always enjoy the hard work we have to do it.
That take on China kind of refreshing, interesting,..
Thanks 😊

You know & understand more deeply than some Chinese themselves especially youngsters nowadays, good work 👍👍
Wow thanks so much 😃
True I found Chinese work really hard and really smart!! Now times 1 billion even with a bad govern they move forward at a pace we can’t comprehend
Fundamentally, the mindset is that : laziness, does not need training.
Exactly!
Thanks for sharing Lizzy❤
Sounds a lot like my friend who is working very hard on everything
Hopefully he likes what he does? Or she

As other people, Chinese also complain because of hard work, but most of them don't quit.
Yes true, they don't quit!

Yes, I saw “confusion” in the subtitle. Sorry to nitpick. Great videos, by the way. Enjoy your time in China. 👍

As you know most chinese believe in their party and country just like you believe in god.
LoL. You must be a Chinese.
Because this party developed China very fast and well.
The Western education system was derived from chinese system from ancient time, you know the graduation hat? Does that ring any bells?
Do this people enjoy life?? Look at Croatia. People sit near the sea, eating food...BALKAN is a PEARL on Earth
你根本没弄明白中国人为什么爱储蓄??
I do now! Amazing 😁
No loh. Most Chinese now r following the western style loh. Not working that hard already... getting very lay back... loh..
Most of these sound horrific
Because you're selfish and lazy 😂😂
Yes I much prefer to be lazy and turn up to meeting whenever I want.
😂 yeah definitely not for everyone
I am against decadence.
