hey I guess I was uninformed about the service dog clip. thanks for educating me. obviously sometimes my takes will be bad, as I am a flawed human and also don't know everything in the world
Don’t worry about it too much. I’m in the process of training my service dog - she’ll probably be fully trained in the next couple of months. The biggest problem is when you tell people about the proper way to interact with service dogs and they purposely ignore it because of their own wants. Now you know! Thanks for recognizing it but you really don’t need to stress too much about it long term. And now you also will know how to interact yourself and for your kid in the future :)
I know everyone is talking about the service dog,but I thought I’d add that the person is most likely angry because that happens. All. The. Time. And people are so mean when they’re told no. Eventually it becomes an automatic response to be frustrated when people start pushing you on it. If kid came up and started messing with your cane or wheelchair you’d be freaked out. If the mom came up and got mad at you for it, instead of parenting their child and explaining why they can’t do that, you’d be angry too.
Hard to tell on this one because apparently there were signs all over the place saying not to touch the dog. I would hope if the mom is getting this butthurt, it's because the owner was also pretty rude about it. But that's definitely not necessarily the case, either. Some parents get incredibly uptight about anything involving their children - so much so that if you told a kid not to lean too far over the Brooklyn Bridge guardrail, there's a solid chance that some Karen parent would admonish you to mind your own business and give you a "how dare you speak to MY CHILD" harangue long before worrying that little Porter was about to taste the East River.
@@mr.whippedcream8000this is an absolute brain worms take. How about having respect for other people. Dogs have been scientifically proven to be able to sense some of the slightest differences in our bodies making them some of the best life savers in the game. Please educate yourself before being ignorant and have more respect for other people's medical health and requirements. Do you get mad at people in wheelchairs because they can't use stairs? Or mad at blind people because you can't just quietly sneak up on them? Your logic is just insane. 😂
The service dog comments make me glad to be in a community that isn’t an echo chamber, that just agrees bc their fav creator said it, like so many others. Also that Cody can admit fault & not double down. Love y’all. 💕
Every time you acknowledge the fact that I’m eating my lunch while watching your videos it snaps me back to reality and I feel like I’ve been caught red handed
I’ve worked with service animals and in certain states in the US it is illegal to pet a working service animal. Service dogs are trained to specifically alert and guide their owners with many different medical problems from blindness, heart problems, panic attacks to schizophrenic episodes and so on. Strangers interacting with them with their vest on can take them out of “work” mode and the distraction can be dangerous for the owner. Also this is aimed at the babies mother, obviously a little kid wouldn’t know that and it’s up to her to handle the situation appropriately. Just wanted to share why it’s important to not pet the working pups :)
they would still be working at home, especially if the dog works with someone who has epilepsy etc. but probably do have cuddles and fun times with their owner.
literally like, WE GET IT. HE GETS IT. there's no way he'll make this mistake again after people are hating on him so hard for simple lack of awareness
Not sure if Cody reads comments, but I'm a service dog handler and heavily rely on ADA law to protect both me and my medical alert dog in public spaces. I always say "Sorry, you can't pet her right now because she's working" and that usually gets through to people, but if someone tried to argue with me the way that lady did I would 100% stand up for myself and my right to be in public with my medical aid. If my dog is being distracted by people touching her 24/7 she can very easily miss her alerts (it's happened before, and hospital trips are expensive and unnecessary when we could've just been left well enough alone).
I seriously hope that he reads these comments. I'm genuinely upset that he's spreading an opinion like this on a platform this large. The attitude he has about service dogs does real harm to people trying to live independent lives with the help of medical equipment that happens to be in the shape of a dog. I am so tired of dealing with these people every time I want to go out of my house. I want people to leave me and my dog alone.
@@laurenbuckley1355he definitely reads the comments! He’s been corrected for bad takes/slip ups/ miss pronunciations in the past and has brought it up in future videos. I’m sure he didn’t realize what he was saying about the service dog or how Important they are, but definitely a bad take 😬
Fun fact: the karen who called the lady for «princess» is actually a princess of Norway😂 If you google «Märtha Louise» you will see her, and her fiancee Durek Verrett also features in the video
The child ran off to the dog. Sadly the reality of having a toddler in public. Sadly she also has a Karen mom who didn't just explain that and say sorry and leave.
YUP! Sorry but WILDLY entitled of Cody and everyone else who thinks like that to feel like disabled people should let them bother their workings dogs for no reason when in some cases that can literally put their life at risk. I've witnessed a service dog fail to alert her owner to a seizure because children and their parents were harassing it in the mall. The owner didn't know to get down in time so he fell and then he needed an ambulance.
Cody was just stating the facts. Toddlers are going to try to pet dogs even if they've been taught not to. The mom should've just apologized and moved on. The pet owner shouldn't have kept arguing. They were both in the wrong.
@@joecota2644Absolutely. They are children and not highly trained and programmed androids. They forget things bc their brains aren't even close to being fully developed.Tell them no just don't scream at them or traumatize them.
Yeah and it's so incredibly gross and concerning that Cody thinks there's any excuse for a FIVE year old to not know that rule yet! TWO is when children are capable of starting to comprehend that lesson. The kid in the video isn't anywhere near five but they are %1000 over the age where they should have learned not to do that. If her mom wasn't so utterly worthless at least
Bad take on the service dog, it’s illegal in multiple states to harass a working service animal. The mother was waaay too entitled to an animal that wasn’t hers.
The mom is setting a bad example for their child. Someone told you no and firmly set their boundaries. Instead of listening and abiding by those boundaries, she immediately argued with the person and tried to make them feel bad. This could teach the child to not respect consent and boundaries, which is awful.
My partner worked at chick fil a during the pandemic and usually got stationed by the door for the sole purpose of preventing people from coming inside. One time a guy was blowing up in him about how he needed to use the bathroom, and when he refused to let him in (there was a Walmart across the street that had an open bathroom by the way), he-no joke-backed up into the corner of the parking lot and took a shit right there. As if that was going to prove something
I don’t understand why bathrooms were closed during the pandemic. Was it to prevent homeless people from coming in I can’t understand the logic behind ending a crucial public service.
You aren’t supposed to pet a service animal because it can distract them from performing their duties which are often life saving. They’re essentially on the clock, and can’t have everyone in the vicinity petting them all the time.
Yes! I saw a man in a mall have a seizure and get hurt and need an ambulance because some absolute cretins brought their nasty brats (they were yelling at the man that he wasn't blind) up to his service dog to harass it. The dog was so distracted (trying to hide from being grabbed and shrieked at) that she didn't catch it and didn't alert him. Without that alert to tell him to get down he just fell right over in to a display rack. The metal pegs on it hurt him really bad and he got hurt when he hit the floor too. There was SO MUCH BLOOD. I watched the whole ordeal cause a nurse swooped in to help and asked me to sit with her baby. It was so horrible and the disgusting people who caused it immediately ran when he fell. Dude even picked up their smallest kid so they could get away faster. I don't know if they got apprehended.
@@Joeysmalls3119 it affects the training of the dog tho. its literally illegal to intentionally distract a working service dog. its fine that the toddler made a mistake but the mother shouldve realized it and not got upset that her daughter couldnt pet it. its just how it works.
@@Joeysmalls3119 it's obviously not about the toddler, it's about the mom making a fuss about it. The irony about you telling others to touch grass...😂
Ong 😭. It was a horrendous take definitely but I can imagine him having a panic attack rn. On the bright side at least he knows now and will avoid that behaviour with Otis.
I hope this comment goes to the top of the comment section lol. The future karens in the comments r laying it on sooo thick you'd think he sat Otis on the back of a blind person's service dog and led him around the yard
since he has acknowledged his mistake and those with service dogs are forgiving, its fine to move on, however unless you have a service dog it is not your choice to forgive him for this situation, if you do then great, but if not then you dont get to decide forgiveness
It's important to teach your kids about not running up to stranger's dogs. You never know if that dog is friendly or not. When I was a kid I used to want to pet every dog I saw (still want to) and my parents teach me to always ask first. And of course it's also important to explain to them why is not ok to pet service dogs while they are working. It's not the same. Hope this helps :) loved the video btw ❤️❤️
As a mom, I've been super diligent to teach my kids to never run toward a dog and to always ask before petting. You never know when a dog will be bitey or anxious. Along with that I've showed them that service dogs are at work and shouldn't be pet. Parents need to do better for their kids safety and social development.
Good job! You are literally supposed to start teaching boundaries and safety such as not running at or assuming they can touch animals at TWO. And the reasons that that's the correct age to start are SO OBVIOUS! I have a real hatred for people who raise their children like they have absolutely no capacity to comprehend anything until they're speaking fluently! And apparently Cody plans to be one of them.
It's super important and I'm glad you pointed out it's for all dogs. Always ask. And children should be taught how to safely pet a dog that they don't know. Different dogs get upset or frightened with random small people running up to them. There's the high pitched screaming, the getting in the dogs face at eye level, the hugging and kissing... It's unsafe for children. "Good" dogs can bite in these situations. I rescue and some dogs have been abused in homes where children are present or by children. If I have leash control over my dog, I should still be able to walk him in public. (Not a shop or restaurant, but on the street). Tun the tables. Just because I think your kid is cute and you brought him out in public, how'd you feel if I immediately started touching them?

@@Lindseyisloonyunfortunately it is probably a generational thing. The quality of someone’s parenting skills usually comes from the quality of the parenting skills of their parents. Unless you decide to break the cycle, which few do, unfortunately. I don’t know what kind of parents Cody had, but let’s hope he does not become one of them. He has the resources at his disposal. It’s just about doing the work. 🤷🏻♀️
as someone who works in the front end of a pharmacy, i can say with 100% certainty that customers really do act like that. I'm so happy i don't work IN the pharmacy as a tech. i almost did... dodged a bullet there frl

I'ma bout to start haha... I've worked in retail for 5 years tho specifically in the returns department, I'm pretty much used to being yelled for the stupidest shit by now. Wish me luck 🤞
Dear Zade, Just wanna say how much I appreciate your editing. However, I haven't seen the smiling "headphone warning" Cody meme in a while, and that makes me sad. It gets me every...single...time. This is my petition to bring it back. I love you. Thanks.
i learned recently the service dog thing is because some people have life threatening conditions and if a dog is distracted when they need to warn the owner it can be really dangerous. Like people who have conditions that make them spontaneously pass out
@@ariana_208 yeah because medical equipment usually isn’t a living breathing fucking animal lol. I’m all for not touching service animals and leaving them alone to do their job but just because they are legally considered objects doesn’t mean they actually are. a wheelchair and a dog are different. you can’t own a wheelchair as a pet
The "Princess" is actually a Princess, she was going to be Queen of Norway but she was not willing to be part of the royal house. So now her bother is going to be King of Norway
Honestly? Good on her for making that choice for herself! Idk why, but I felt the need to say that. Maybe it's just because I feel like celebrities and government officials are worshipped way too much.
wait nuh uh u could just be making this up and 100 people will like it without questioning it?! like idgaf if it’s real or fake but this could so easily be bullshit and like no one cares HAHA

Not yet. He apologized already sorta but it won't actually hit him until this follows him for a while. Which it will, because there is a big difference between a bad take that happened because of an innocent lack of understanding and making himself look like an airplane hanger sized ahole because he clearly has never considered disabled people's needs or wellbeing. it's EVERY adult's responsibility to NOT be completely oblivious to disabled people and their needs and rights and the law thankfully backs that up. "I didn't know" isn't a legal defense and judges find people who have takes like his to be abhorrent.
@@AA-ve5qpNah, he only defended a crime. Which is still pretty shitty. He didn’t know, I get that, but the damage is has already been done unfortunately.

Especially with how little mileage they get on a charge, and all the rare Earth metals needed, etc. In the USA 81% of their electricity is made by fossil fuels. Tesla's may even be worse overall for the environment.
@@Redbeardian it still is more efficient to use fossil fuel electricity to charge cars rather than use the fossil fuel itself. Batteries are a big problem tho
No one’s blaming the kid. Here is how the interaction could of and should of went: Kid runs up and tries to pet service animal. Handler says “no.” Parent comes to collect their kid and apologizes. “I’m sorry, we’re still learning.” Parent reinforces that you need to ask to pet and that service dogs are working and they have a job, they aren’t like regular dogs. Parent and kid leave. There. No screaming. Just take the L with grace and make it a learning experience for your kid. Bad take for several reasons, Cody
This is exactly how it should go. Also I'd not even say "take the L", because everyones kid gets away from them sometimes. If they'd have had solved it the way you described that'd just be decent and no L's taken on either side.
The pharmacy tech video is so real…i worked at Walgreens in Las Vegas and the only customers you get are people on narcotics, it’s really sad but technicians have to deal with their mood swings and it can be mentally draining
The thing is, service dogs are medical equipment and are doing a job (alerting handler of incoming seizures, panic or anxiety attacks, diabetic alert, hearing or sight, and legit so many more) they aren't JUST pets, they save lives.
My best friend since middle school gets seizure esc episodes as well as OCD and could barely get through the school day. Multiple head injuries from falling on the floor, she got bullied and teased and once she got her service dog, she was ecstatic because she could finally be independent. Please educate yourselves
@@samueldominguez9859 Don't judge what you can't understand, service dogs are beloved pets to their owners but they still serve dual purpose as a medical aid. Educate yourself
I’m happy seeing all these comments educating Cody about service dogs. that’s incredibly important. Cody needed to know that, and he’s acknowledged his take was bad. we love to see it. service dogs are medical devices when they are working and are protected as such. they should not be distracted for any reason, even an excited child who should know better and doesn’t. the mother was at fault in that clip 100%. what we don’t love to see is people trying to turn Cody’s idea of parenting into one that’s neglectful or endangering. he’s only been a parent for a few months, guys. he has lots to learn. it’s really upsetting to see everyone blaming Cody for having one bad take that was swiftly and easily corrected. my father has been a parent to four for over 20 years and still doesn’t even really know what he’s doing. Cody is not a bad parent for not knowing absolutely everything after having one (1) baby. come on, everyone.
Fun fact: That citizens arrest video @11:57 where the Karen calls the other woman "Princess", is actually Princess Martha Loiuise from Norway. And the guy that asks "For what!?" is her boyfriend and is called as Shaman Durek.
The biggest thing to remember about service dogs is that when they are working, they are not considered pets, or even animals really. They are a piece of medical equipment. Petting or distracting a working service dog would kinda of be like grabbing someones cane as a joke, or pushing someones wheelchair in a random direction without being asked, or fiddling with the machinery in someones hospital room. Its incredibly invasive, scary, and can possibly have immediate consequences to the owners health. Pets are amazing, and its wonderful when your pet can make other people/kids happy, but a working service dog is not a pet. That mother should have used the opportunity to teach her kid about other peoples medical/health boundaries instead of scolding the service dog user.
@@keibellaThat’s not what they’re saying. Service dogs are considered medical devices. This isn’t theothercrypt doing it, they’re explaining what service dogs are considered equivalent to medically by professionals and the law. That doesn’t mean theothercrypt or others genuinely consider service dogs just objects and not living things. You’re being ignorant and blaming someone for something they’re not doing, which you’d know if you actually tried to understand what they meant. And honestly, you’re the one who’s very off-putting by ignoring everything they’re saying just to misrepresent them and accuse them of something they’re not saying. Service dogs are living creatures with rights who deserve to be treated well the way any other living thing does. But they are also considered medical tools because of the precise training they go through to be so to people that need them. It’s hard to believe you’re not going out of your way to mischaracterize theothercrypt’s words, because your take away is so off the mark.
the editing of chilly running through the garage door and humping a stranger to death while cody is ranting has gotta be an all time favorite for me holyyyy shit
@FukaiKokoro that's not true. There are bunk 'emotional support' websites that'll charge you for a vest and a little internet certificate, but those things are glorified dog accessories The real service animals go through the ADA and are protected under law
My understanding is that Cody was just saying to the little 4 year old girl, seeing a service dog is probably like seeing any other dog and that she'd want to pet it. Of course you should teach your kids to be cautious, but 90% of the time they don't listen. Little kids don't work the same as teenagers and adults, the mum could've turned around to grab something off the shelf for 2 seconds and the little girl would've 100% been able to slip by and run up to the service dog without her parent even noticing. Cody was just saying there wasn't enough context to know what had happened, and that if the situation was such that the little girl had run up to the dog to pet it without her mum knowing and gotten yelled at by the owner then it was understandable that the girl's mum would be upset. Any mother would be if a stranger had just shouted at your very young child, whatever the reason. He also clearly stated that if the situation was such that the mother had gone up to the owner and ask permission to pet her service dog and the owner refused and the mother then doubled-down and got upset at the owner, then the mother would be completely in the wrong.
I think I get what you're saying but I disagree, heaps of people talk about having service dogs and not only are they exhausted from the disability that they require the dog for they're exhausted from this happening constantly. Especially because by distracting the dog their own life is put at risk. It's completely reasonable to sternly state no in response to someone threatening virtually turning off your medical device and while it would be confusing for the child I think it's the parent's responsibility to use that opportunity to educate their child. Not to exhaust and argue with someone who may likely have a heart condition, seizures, etc.
5:01 my dog was severely abused as a pup and was terrified of strangers. she didnt appear that way with me, so people assumed she was friendly. i wouldn’t let people pet her as it would cause her severe distress, but i had a couple people assume i was just being rude. this aint it, cody 😭 i dont think everyone should allow access to their dog - even if it is friendly!
yea my dog will straight up nip people if they touch her (she shows signs of distress before tho) so shes not allowed around new people until she acclimates to them. ive had friends that thought theyd be an exception and she would love them immediately- she did not.
HELL YES THIS NEEDED TO BE SAID! Good on you for catching that. His take had so many inexcusably god awful takes that I missed that one. The sheer entitlement of thinking everyone should let you pet THEIR dogs, working or not, makes me want to throw up.
And if my dog bites someone, she's the one that will be put down if they sue. That's the thing as well. My dog is super friendly, but also, I do not want people coming up touching my dog without talking to me. It's just fucking rude
In Texas attempting to distract a service animal is : An offense is a misdemeanor punishable by: a fine of not more than $300; and. 30 hours of community service for a governmental entity or nonprofit organization that primarily serves persons with disabilities or for another entity or organization at the discretion of the court, to be completed in one year.
Good lord people. He read the comments, admitted he was misinformed about the service dog, and apologized and learned better. He doesn’t need thousands more comments saying the SAME THING that’s already been said over and over and over. I personally love that he admitted he was wrong and apologized. It’s so refreshing to see UA-camrs actually be like “hey, I was wrong. I’m sorry about that, but now I know better.” Give the guy a break. It’s resolved.
Did you forget where you were? This is Cody's channel, everyone here regurgitates the exact same shit. You'll be seeing comments about this 6 years from now on unrelated videos.
Also, if your kid runs up to random dogs and people, you should correct that behavior because that's dangerous for your kid to be doing that in the first place.
Seriously. I was so shocked by his response. Someone petting YOUR dog is much different than a child running up and distracting a service animal. Either way, super dangerous for a child to think they can run up to any dog. You’re asking to get bitten
@@Koki-hc3mwExactly, it could end in the euthanasia of a dog and legal repercussions for the owner just because the parent failed to teach their child boundaries. Of course these things can happen to parents that do try to teach their children not to approach a stranger’s dog, because kids can be impulsive. But in too many cases, the parents are passive and believe their children are entitled to petting a stranger’s dog, and that it’s somehow the owner’s fault for refusing.
Yup. The other person in the wrong is Cody. It's not acceptable to have those views on service dogs at his age and it's also not acceptable to have a child and believe it's ok to still be running up and touching strange dogs at 5. That's actually insane. People who act like children just simply have no capacity to comprehend anything until they're like 8 years old make THE WORST PARENTS so Kelsey better get on that...

No, that girls mom should’ve kept her from the dog. I have a service dog who is trained to help me in event in a situation where I could die. It’s extremely distracting to my dog who is in a certain zone and when people come and get him out of that zone and it’s happened multiple times. Dogs are dogs they’re going to react. It’s not their fault. But you have the responsibility to identify someone who is most likely using a service dog and in that case leave them alone. They are helping their owner survive.

It is 100% illegal to harass a service dog, even petting. They're considered medical equipment under the law, not pets. Therefore, like a wheelchair or any other medical device, it's very illegal to mess with it as it can prevent the dog from alerting to a handler's issue and result in injury or death to the handler.
the mom let her kid wander around and approach strange dogs (regardless of service status) she's lucky something worse didn't happen. Not every dog is your friend and its the parents job to teach her kid when it's appropriate to approach animals.
Hey Cody! It's actually Illegal to harrass service dogs! It's not the same as a child going to pet it on accident, and telling them not to do that and they go on about their way, but it is illegal. Cody will be that parent at the zoo sobbing to police like "But how was I ever supposed to know my son might try to pet a lion?!" Because you never taught them common sense safety, dummy.
1000% agree. Not all dogs are friendly and if they go up to a reactive dog just minding its own business and the kid gets bit, then the dog has to be put down. Drives me nuts when people say “well if your dog is reactive just keep them at home” as if the dog is undeserving of trying to have a normal life??? Parents need to teach their kids to keep their hands to themselves ESPECIALLY around animals they’re unfamiliar with 👏🏽
@@micahacker3717 guarantee you won’t say “it’s just gonna happen” when a child is bit by a dog bc they want to pet them simply bc they are in public. because from experience, a lot of children do not know how to properly interact with dogs (especially if they are the type of children to run up and pet a dog without permission) and do things that may warrant a correction on the dogs end.
I’m sorry, but it drives me crazy how sometimes Karen’s will seat themselves in front of cars like that. Sure, the person who runs you over will face consequences. But imagine if you are dealing with someone with mental issues who would actually go through with it. Shit gets you nowhere at best and dead at worst
Genuinely so glad that the comments are full of other people that angry about his service dog takes. I'm so genuinely mad at Cody for not taking 5 minutes to actually educate himself and spreading an opinion like that on a platform as large as his. I don't think I'll ever see him the same way.
Yeah cody not with you on the service dog thing, it is illegal in many states. Its a working dog and shouldn't be distracted. Thatd be like pushing buttons on my insulin pump and potentially hurting me because "people light up when they push buttons" come on now
Just because there's a dog doesn't mean it's for others to pet it, service dogs are trained to pay full attention to their owner so if you try to distract them you are endangering the person who needs the dog to alert them
Honestly his ignorance about the service dogs isnt whats bothering me that much. Its weird to me he doesnt know about them, but it can happen. Its the fact he said "dogs exist to make people happy" and the dog owner was making a big deal out of it. All kids should be taught to NEVER approach random dogs without permission. Could end very badly for the kid and the dog is most probably going to get put down because of their parents ignorance. Plus strangers are NOT entitled to just go touch your dog without your permission.
The woman screaming on the plane gave me a flashback of the scene in Anger Management "rage on a plane" for some reason. Had to pause and go watch that lmao
It's sad seeing how many people think it's "not a big deal" to touch them. Like I expect it from the bros that LIVE for hating on anyone disadvantaged but seeing a lot of people that are certainly virtue signalling on another platform showing their true nature in the comments.
Bad take on the service dog video. They’re not the same as pets, they’re working and distracting them could cause genuine harm to the owner. Besides, I feel like everyone is taught super young that if a dog has a vest on that you’re supposed to leave it alone because it’s doing an important job. Even beyond that, I was taught to never run up to a dog I don’t know or pet a dog without asking, so bad parenting moment imo for the lady with the kid /:
My mom told me and siblings repeatedly as kids “No sweetie you can’t pet the dog he’s busy working” and we all understood immediately. More parents need to teach that tbh
Common courtesy should just come back. No toddler is trying to hurt you or your service dog. And the service dog lady isn’t trying to hurt your kid so why do we even need to escalate? Because people are bored and have no life. It’s just as easy for the service dog handler to say “Aww no sweetie I know you want to touch this dog but you can’t.” And the mom to say “okay I’m sorry that my kid ran up.” But instead the loser comes out in both of them and the phone has to come out.
@@ssjbargainsaleAs Cody said “I’m sure you’re fun at parties.” We teach toddlers not to run in the road too but pets are cute. Maybe you need to change in a few fur babies, for actual babies. Maybe you can transform from the weird cat/dog person that smells of their animal. To a normal person who understands and appreciates children and childhood.
You gotta take an L on the service dog thing Cody. It's important they not be bothered because they're literally there for an important job and it can distract them
yall if 3000 other people already made a comment about it, NO ONE needs your input, too. all of us, including cody himself, are aware of the bad take he had. get over it. life goes on. we dont need another comment repeating what everyone already knows.
People with service dogs, and the service dogs themselves, get harassed a lot, Cody. It’s not safe for a child to approach and touch any animal they don’t know, because that puts the child and animal at risk. Even more so for a service animal, because the animal is literally doing a job, and distracting the service animal puts its owner at risk because it impairs the animal from doing its job. I think it’d be the same as a kid trying to use a stranger’s wheelchair as a go-kart, or using someone’s inhaler as a kazoo. The kid might not know better, but they’re interfering with tools and accommodations meant to assist someone with a disability. It’s up to the parent to correct their child, not harass the service animal owner by saying they should let a small child interfere with the owner’s health and safety. I don’t blame the owner for getting heated at the mother’s ignorance and ableism. It’s likely not the first time she’s had to deal with people like that, and unfortunately won’t be the last.
Fr it made me just roll my eyes seeing Cody this perfectly able bodied dude just not understand medical equipment cause he has no fucking idea what he's talking abt it takes a simple Google search to learn abt this shit from a reputable website
@@ghoulishtoadyeah I hated that part. Either way tho you can’t just let your kids go up to any dogs and touch them you don’t know what the dog is like.
@lovelife5944 That too any random dog is not inherently friendly, a kid needs to learn that early for their safety and the dogs cause it's not really their fault when a little kid hits them and their instinct kicks in and then they get put down. It's just best to teach them younger not to pet them and just ask respectfully if they really want to
Man if you have kids and think its completely safe to let small children run up to any random dog that is a ticking time bomb on your kid getting bitten or worse.
i dont think cody knows exactly what service dogs do and is equating them to regular dogs. which i might get why he has the take if hes misinformed but yeah, do not pet service dogs. you're not supposed to distract them!
yeah i feel this way too. especially when he said that dogs basically exist to make people happy. like, no, cody-- service dogs exist to save people's lives and help people with disabilities. not to make your kids happy. no one should have to let people pet their dogs, but *especially* not people with service dogs. they're doing a job that is too important to interrupt for any kid who wants to to be able to pet them
@@existential_horror5045 i think he's confusing or grouping SDs with ESAs, which is so wrong. SDs go through intense training specifically for the person they're going to be with and their needs, they are regulated, they literally perform life saving functions like detecting low/high blood sugar or alerting before a seizure or fainting so the person has time to lay down and avoid injury from falling from the faint/seizure. ESAs can literally just be your cat. a hamster. anything. not regulated, not allowed in public spaces (where animals aren't allowed but SDs are), don't perform life saving functions, etc. they are completely different things and he seriously needs to educate himself.
Yes and it is completely unacceptable that he doesn't know that and that he thinks the mother has no responsibility to teach her kid how to act. He so so so thoroughly deserves every one of these call outs!
People don’t have a right to treat your child wrong because a child did a childish thing that they don’t know is wrong. You people really are just so miserable and sensitive. You must be liberals.
That part is kind of shocking to me. If it was my mom, she would have been embarrassed and quietly left. I feel really bad for that kid that their mom acts like that.
He did say they were both annoying and I have to say I agree. The owner had no mercy, and the mother had no humility. The only person he defended was the little girl and that's a good take. Kids a small and dumb. I was small and dumb. You were small and dumb. It's generally good to give kids some mercy. And the younger they are, the more mercy we ought to give.
Stop. You know what can cause anybody anxiety? Being harassed! Shame on you for just assuming you know anything about her situation. Regular dogs look at their owners when they are having interactions too. I can't believe you need to be told that!!
I think there is actually some kind of law or something at least in certain states regarding petting service dogs. If they're being pet it can distract them from their owner having a medical emergency. The mom asked, the dog mom said no, the end. Yes I feel bad for the 5yr old but her mom made it so much worse.
The child was clearly not 5 but it is completely unacceptable for any 5 year old to have never been taught not to behave that way. You are very literally supposed to start teaching boundaries and safety a freaking 2 years old. Ask anybody in a child development field!

She was screaming and swearing at me for like 5 minutes but I wasn't going to let her win and have the spot so I just tried to pretend she wasn't there and I thought about these videos lmaooo. But anyways I was anxious for the rest of the day 🤣
Some of these comments are SO brutal. Cody was absolutely wrong about the service dog video, but it comes from a place of being unaware of the work a service dog does. He isn't being willfully ignorant or trying to encourage the endangerment of children or people with service animals. He's equating service dogs to regular dogs which is clearly a sincere mistake on his end. Cut the dude some slack, he's only human. The barrage of comments has probably informed him plenty.

@marniluvsstrawberries There is no excuse for you not to know that... Most of them are labeled "do not pet", which should be enough. It's good that you know now. I imagine UK is similar to the US in the respect that the law doesn't care at all if you didn't know. Here you can straight up get a prison sentence if you distracting a service dog leads to the dog failing to preform a necessary task which then results in injury or other medical emergency for the handler.
@@Lindseyisloony get off your high horse, no need to sound so snooty. That one saying “are you ashamed of the toxic fumes?” Is DEFINITELY the same lady in the fake video where she was like “are you eating chicken? That’s murd3r!!” Same guy too 😂
You may and wanted to do a little googling before saying it’s okay to distract service dogs. They protect people and save lives, so they need to be on the job when they’re in their vest.
The part about the dog I find hilarious is that Cody said “that kid is like 5”, that kid (through the blue at least) looked like it was no bigger than a 2 year old 🤣
You're not supposed to harass service dogs, I don't know if it's a law or not. I guess I don't blame the child but it is something she needs to learn. For example if that dog was meant to detect seizures, it being distracted could be very dangerous to the owner. Edit: Glad that Cody corrected himself in the comments.
And either way service or not, it's not your fucking dog, what if someone came over and grabbed her tit and said "but I like tits, my dick made me want to touch them" Good for you, just cause you like to touch something doesn't mean you have any right to, consent is consent, sexual or otherwise, and is ALWAYS required, and for a mom to not teach her daughter that is disgusting
Whenever I’m on a plane, I sit and wait until most people get off and I have time and space to gather my belongings. I HATE cramming myself along with other people in an already small space.
Service dogs aren't pets, they're legally considered vital medical equipment. However, even if the dog wasn't a service dog, no one is entitled to pet your dog, and dog owners shouldn't have to drop what they're doing anytime someone wants to interact with their pet. Additionally, kids can be rough with dogs because they don't know better. If a parent isn't teaching their child to ask permission before petting a random dog, they're also probably not teaching other ways to respectfully and safely interact with an unknown animal. Dog owners aren't obligated to put their pet at risk for some random person's pleasure.
You're right. My dog is just a regular dog and she has never liked children for some reason. They make her very nervous and I don't think it's safe to let them pet her. I'm just trying to be a responsible pet owner and keep both my dog and other people's children safe. I can't believe the way that mom acted. She's very immature and lacking appropriate social skills. She's setting a terrible example for her child.
@@Meggiez1030You are right. Not approaching random dogs was one of the first things my parents taught me. Its so crazy to me how some people dont tell this to their kids. This woman could have one rude awakening if the kid aproaches wrong dog and ends up mangled.
As a former pharmacy technician, can confirm that you do indeed see the worst in some people there. Plenty of Karens and Kevins, and people having toddler tantrums. I'm also very glad I left that job lol
Lol. Pharmacies are soooo incredibly shady and unreliable so I can't feel bad for you tbh. The gaslighting is unreal. People get treated like they are unreasonable just for expecting the pharmacy to actually fill their prescriptions in a timely manner. The Walgreens pharmacy I go to has multiple lawsuits against it currently (no, none from me) for their misconduct. Walgreens in particular was publicly in trouble for *allowing* their pharmacy employees to lie and withhold birth control pills from their customers. Look it up. That happened to me back when it was on the news and STILL periodically happens to me now both at Walgreens and CVS so don't act like pharmacies are innocent. A LOT of the complaints are about actual misconduct and are completely valid.
@@Lindseyisloony I work at a pharmacy that does not withhold medications from people and we fill fairly fast… so I rarely if ever hear of those types of complaints. In my experience, people would become upset when we could not fill medications because they are on backorder (manufacturer is at fault) or because of problems they have with their own insurance. I don’t agree that a customer should ever act this way towards pharmacy employees… or even act that way towards another human. Also, I would consider looking for a different pharmacy that does not have lawsuits against them!
4:08 - even if it is legal kids should learn that a service dog shouldn’t be pet and to respect them and the owner. It would be a great way to teach the kid a lesson about a situation like this. It would be an easy parenting moment imo
@@The_Ooberist_Goober Yeah this too!! I get it. We’re all socialized to just trust dogs, but like people, not all dogs are going to automatically be having a great day and could be in a bad mood for whatever and just not want anyone close/touching them
It’s a great teachable moment about consent. Do you have permission to touch someone or an animal? No? Then do not touch. No means no. That mom is teaching their kid to not respect the boundaries set by other people, which is just so sad to see.
I don’t understand the dog comment to be honest. They’re not both in the wrong, do not pet a service dog and the mom was clearly harassing the woman after she said not to pet it.
@@travismccombs110 good learning opportunity for the kid. but the handler wasn’t arguing with the toddler. she was arguing with the mom who feels her child is entitled to other people’s things
Cody, I have a service dog. Under ADA law they are medical equipment, not pets. Therefore it is 100% illegal to mess with them in any way, even petting. It is life threatening to the handler when their dog is distracted. The thing is, we get takes like this all the time. And I really wish someone with this big of an audience and reach could make a small difference by explaining why it is so wrong to do something like the lady did in that video. It puts people like me in serious danger by preventing the dog from doing it's job. Even if it seems harmless, a service dog being distracted can easily lead to undetected panic attacks, seizures, blood sugar spikes, and a ton more issues that the handler will be unprepared for, which can lead to further issues (or even death for some handlers) It's not being overdramatic. It's people with disabilities trying to just exist as a normal person in this world without their life saving medical equipment being taken from them.
Part of me honestly hopes that the Karen did actually get in contact with a lawyer, and that they called her out for discrimination against someone with a disability and distracting a service dog, as well as pointing out that she would absolutely not have a leg to stand on in court. "You distracted a service animal" and "you verbally attacked a disabled person for their disability" ARE crimes, meanwhile "you were slightly rude to my child" is NOT a crime. A service animal being distracted by a child is potentially life threatening. A child not being able to pet ONE dog they saw is not life threatening. Still, I find this trash take to be really disappointing from someone like Cody.
A friend of mind had his adams apple ripped out when he basically first got it, by a random german shepherd he tried to pet. Super sad. I have 2 other friends who have been pretty badly attacked aswell, one at a dog park and one just in a neighborhood walking.
The ADA gov website in the US has all the legality posted there. NEVER pet a service dog, distracting a service dog can be a misdemeanor in many states. It distracts them from their job (medical alert) which can lead to the owner being injured or dying in some cases. Kids should be under the parents control, the mom was in the wrong and very entitled and uneducated. Bad take cody, please educate yourself on this.
Yes! Not only that but they can be put out of work forever after being traumatized by Karen’s! That dogs whole purpose being destroyed is depressing as fuck
hey I guess I was uninformed about the service dog clip. thanks for educating me. obviously sometimes my takes will be bad, as I am a flawed human and also don't know everything in the world
Lmao
Don’t worry about it too much. I’m in the process of training my service dog - she’ll probably be fully trained in the next couple of months. The biggest problem is when you tell people about the proper way to interact with service dogs and they purposely ignore it because of their own wants. Now you know! Thanks for recognizing it but you really don’t need to stress too much about it long term. And now you also will know how to interact yourself and for your kid in the future :)
I'm a service dog and I forgive you
I thought it was pretty common knowledge to not let your kids run up to a service dog. L take but we still love you
No don’t back down, you were right. No need to cower in the corner over it
I know everyone is talking about the service dog,but I thought I’d add that the person is most likely angry because that happens. All. The.
Maybe it’s a terrible tool for disabilities

Out of curiosity, are service dogs always in work mode, or can they be treated as pets when they are at home?
they would still be working at home, especially if the dog works with someone who has epilepsy etc. but probably do have cuddles and fun times with their owner.

No one’s blaming the kid.
Here is how the interaction could of and should of went:
Kid runs up and tries to pet service animal. Handler says “no.” Parent comes to collect their kid and apologizes. “I’m sorry, we’re still learning.” Parent reinforces that you need to ask to pet and that service dogs are working and they have a job, they aren’t like regular dogs.

Literally. People are so dramatic and angry about everything these days it's insane

How are they supposed to know?
Bad take on the service dog video. They’re not the same as pets, they’re working and distracting them could cause genuine harm to the owner. Besides, I feel like everyone is taught super young that if a dog has a vest on that you’re supposed to leave it alone because it’s doing an important job. Even beyond that, I was taught to never run up to a dog I don’t know or pet a dog without asking, so bad parenting moment imo for the lady with the kid /:
Not opinion that's just a fact
Even if it wasnt a service dog. It's not ok to go up and touch other people's animals

You gotta take an L on the service dog thing Cody. It's important they not be bothered because they're literally there for an important job and it can distract them

@@Lindseyisloony 😂😂 I hit a nerve 😂😂😂
Kody your brain is awesome. I never hear from or meet people with a working brain and chill humor. I love it. You da best.
I got screamed at by a Karen yesterday over a parking spot and she called me a shithead and princess of the world which was lowkey fire.

IKR!? Some people are just itching to say horrible things and hate on people I swear.. I’ve seen helpful, educational comments, but also people saying he’s a horrible father, out of touch with reality, does no work outside of sitting in front of a camera, and that people have lost all respect for him,… like whaaaaattt, yes he’s wrong but he’s not the embodiment of evil lol
@@JustMooshieI have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of those comments are just trolls lmao. half of codys audience are fairly normal, but the other half is a looooot of Reddit types, I’m willing to bet at least some are trying to pass themselves off as irrational to make the ppl speaking up look worse than they are

Finally, someone with common sense!! Thank youuuu! It's not something that is widely known or taught in the U.S. I didn't know that until I was 12 or 13! And it was from a UA-cam video I randomly stumbled upon!
exactlyyyyyy
I’m from the UK and here it is certainly illegal and common knowledge to not pet or distract service animales
I’m from the uk and I didn’t even know that 😭 rip
@marniluvsstrawberries There is no excuse for you not to know that... Most of them are labeled "do not pet", which should be enough. It's good that you know now. I imagine UK is similar to the US in the respect that the law doesn't care at all if you didn't know. Here you can straight up get a prison sentence if you distracting a service dog leads to the dog failing to preform a necessary task which then results in injury or other medical emergency for the handler.
@@Lindseyisloony get off your high horse, no need to sound so snooty. While I personally know not to touch a service dog, I've never once paid any attention to the writing on their vests, and I assume most people don't either. It's fine to not know everything, but you can educate someone without sounding like a dick.
That one saying “are you ashamed of the toxic fumes?” Is DEFINITELY the same lady in the fake video where she was like “are you eating chicken? That’s murd3r!!” Same guy too 😂
service dogs are medical equipment and can miss alerts when distracted so it's never a good idea to bother them as they are working
You may and wanted to do a little googling before saying it’s okay to distract service dogs. They protect people and save lives, so they need to be on the job when they’re in their vest.
He could also have just NOT left his entire brain out at the curb in the trash can today
Mhm, plus you can't go around petting everyone else's dogs because they can bite, yk?
@@owo6881 For sure, as a kid my parents taught me to ask the owner before I pet their dog.
It is the national law
Exactly, the owner has them for a reason and could literally die if you distract that dog who isn't a pet, it's a worker, doing a job
Man your parent Karen instincts are developing lol
Just sat down to pet my service dog, perfect timing as always Chody
cody i think you should apologize to all dogs in the world. bark and whimper for us.
4:08 - even if it is legal kids should learn that a service dog shouldn’t be pet and to respect them and the owner. It would be a great way to teach the kid a lesson about a situation like this. It would be an easy parenting moment imo
Also hello??? You should most definitely teach your child not to run up and touch any dog that’s how kids get mauled 😭💀

@@MsIngPeaces he quite literally said that they were both in the wrong

Even if it seems harmless, a service dog being distracted can easily lead to undetected panic attacks, seizures, blood sugar spikes, and a ton more issues that the handler will be unprepared for, which can lead to further issues (or even death for some handlers)
It's not being overdramatic.
Still, I find this trash take to be really disappointing from someone like Cody.

oof.. that service dog take was not the right one cody lol
