    it's a thing of beauty. I used to think accuracy was vital but I find I'm just not bothered about it now, as long as it's reasonable. All that said, if you're spending big money on a watch then good accuracy is a must, and Spring Drive is way ahead of the competition.

    If I am paying north of $2000 for a watch, it should be accurate. Having said that, here are the things that I love about the Grand Seiko mechanical watches: I love the 'energy dial' feature, clean sweep of the second hand, design and quality finish of the watch, low number (35,000 units) of hand assembled watches (each year), and the fact that it is an Asian manufacturer brand with its version of high end engineering and technology.

    GRAND SEIKO, If this is their best, Houston we got issues!
    Bought a brand new Lake Suwa Ref 021 with the Spring Drive in Japan after hearing how great GS was.
    It's supposed to have a 5 day power reserve. I got the watch for a family member as a gift thinking this would truly be a watch he could enjoy for years to come.
    Never wore or sized the watch. Absolutely brand new from authorized Grand Seiko dealer in Japan. I just opened it up and wound the power reserve to near full and hoped to see it last for up to 5 days. Two days later I go back to see the watch that's in the box and it's stopped running! Now this can't be normal right? Since I don't live in Japan I couldn't go back to the selling dealer. So I went to my local GS dealer in my country and he said this is not normal. He said let us bring it to our Grand Seiko watch repair center to see what they say. 4 days later they tell me oh this is something ONLY Japan can repair and because this model is so new we are not equipped to repair this!
    I said so I paid about for a new watch and it has to go back to Japan for about a month or more to get repaired? I requested that Grand Seiko simply replace the unit with a new unit and he said they could not do that. I find this practice to be unethical, poor business sense, and a quick way to lose brand loyalty, of which they have not even yet established yet.
    SO basically I have to pay in full, never get any use from the purchase, and it has to go to Japan for repairs for God knows how long.
    Not sure Grand Seiko Marketing or Director of Sales would find this remedy to be fair.
    Anyways, that's my experience with GS so far and no I won't recommend this brand to anyone. If you have any suggestions kindly let me know.
    Thank you and happy holidays!

    Man EDWG, you really do have great taste in watches. Honestly, I go back and forth, between the SLGA007, and the SLGH005. By that I mean that, if I could only own 1 watch, for the entirety of my life, which watch would I choose. They are both, so close to perfection, in my eyes. Even w/ the lack of micro-adjustment, on the clasp. I know that you own both (or did, at one time). Which would you choose??

    • @EverydayWatchGuy
      @EverydayWatchGuy  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your feedback. I do own both watches. If you could only own one Grand Seiko, I would lean towards this Lake Suwa, due to it having Spring Drive. However, if the movement is not as important as the dial, the white birch is more dynamic in my opinion. Cheers

    • @tarasmathers7423
      @tarasmathers7423 2 роки тому

      @@EverydayWatchGuy As you stated, I do find the dial of the "White Birch," to be more dynamic, and a more universal color choice, when paired w/ outfits. Aesthetically speaking, I prefer the level of finishing, and overall visual interest, of the "high-beat" movement, as well. In terms of performance, there is no topping the Spring Drive movement. I also prefer that clean sweep, of the seconds hand. There is also the SLGA009 "White Birch," which as you know, is a Spring Drive. But again, I find the movement decoration, to be a little drab, in comparison to the "high-beat." I also believe that the dimensions are slightly different from the SLHG005. Does that make sense to you???

    How's this for feedback, it looks stunning.
    I do value accuracy even in affordable watches... partly because ai twke public transportation all the time here in Germany, and it runs on time to the minute... so that Vostok being +20 or whatever means I'm less likely to wear it more than a day... it can make a big difference in catching trams! I also value it in quartz watches... some of those cheap Casios, if I don't wear em for a month or two... it's not even really a good grab and go because of the above reason!
    Furthermore, resetting watches back a minute or whatever is anNOYing. Especially if you are rotating watches daily... it's something ao really appreciate in some of my good watches, that they maintain good accuracy for days or weeks and I don't have to reset them as often.

  • @Nefville

    Accuracy only is important to me when I spend over $2 or 3 thousand. I don't really use my watches to tell the time, they're more art to me but when you get to a certain level it should be highly regulated. Paying a lot for a watch only to find its inaccurate feels lazy and makes me wonder what else they cut corners on. I don't buy luxury to cut corners, the details matter. As for this watch, wow. The only complaint I have is the hour hand but that is _minor_ its a beautiful watch.

    How do we know that you are in a watch studio? I see one watch and a table.
    Just kidding.
    This and the diver are my two favorites. It's amazing what GS brings to the table. Unparalleled second hand sweep, attention to detail on the dial that a loupe cannot find any imperfections. Perfect hands. An unparalleled accuracy. And best of all. I can get 2 of them for the price of a glorified tool watch and most overrated watch in history. The Rolex Submariner. Ooh, the Submariner holds its value. Cars, boats, fine food and beverages, sexy women. I've enjoyed all of these and don't regret the cash they cost me.

    BEST Spring Drive?? TBD
    Saw your review of GS and the spring drive which compelled me to buy one this week ... HOWEVER ...
    Grand Seiko - Quality Control and Company Response TBD!!
    Heard so much about the Grand Seiko line and the Lake Suwa watch.
    The Spring Drive truly is in theory a great innovation and the sweeping second hand is impressive to look at.
    Quick run down: Bought one in Japan from authorized GS dealer and two days later found that the 5 day claim was inaccurate because it stopped after less than one day. Yes and the rear case back power reserve showed that it was full. Just two days and I never even sized or wore it yet. I immediately took it back to GS dealer that has offered to send it in to GS repair center to see what happened.
    This is somewhat concerning because list price is over 9K and you wouldn't expect this to happen to a Grand Seiko!
    I told the GS dealer if it requires opening up to repair I want a new replacement because this is brand new/never worn. So how would you feel if you bought a new watch and immediately it needed emergency care?
    Let's see how Grand Seiko responds to this "hopefully anomaly" and do the right thing because if Im the manufacturer and its an internal issue I would surely want to do the right thing and replace it right away.
    So far a bit disappointed to say the least and your viewers should be aware of this issue as well if they are considering this model.

    It's technically a quartz watch, so obviously you can't directly compare the accuracy to true mechanical watches. However, you can compare the engineering and watchmaking to other mechanical watches. It's a different mechanism, but every bit as impressive as some mechanical movements. If not more so. It reminds me a bit of powering a light bulb by pedaling a bicycle, although this is obviously much more complicated

    • @Roughdraft214
      @Roughdraft214 Рік тому +1

      Not technically no, a quartz watch uses the quartz crystal which is powered by a battery to run the watch. This watch uses a mechanical movement the quartz regulator acts as a break so it’s a hybrid of sorts but none the less a marvelous feat. But it’s okay if you don’t like it, just wanted to clear that up.

The narrow bezel with vertical brushing and the small lugs paired with a 22mm lug width give this case a weird composition. If you don’t value accuracy you might as well wear man jewelry on your wrist.

    Lack of lum. Instead of gold place inside watch ,cut corner to just add onto claps logo & save more time polishing in case by use more brush finish.Call this a special edition by adding more accuracy ,which already a very accurate watch that u cannot even tell! But not from the price.
