- The new Grand Seiko SLGA007 is the one of the best watches of 2021. In typical Grand Seiko fashion the finishing and attention to detail is on another planet. Grand Seiko is doing exactly what the Japanese car manufactures did. They kept getting better and better until they no longer had to sell only inexpensive cars. Their quality is light years ahead of the Swiss for the price and in 10 years from now they will be able to get the same money. I think that GS could upgrade their bracelets and Clasps. GS needs a tapered bracelet. GREAT VIDEO

Again, "quality" is compared to... what, exactly? A Rolex? I'm not even a Rolex owner but I think we can all agree anything remotely resembling one is trying to ride coattails.
@@PeteNice29 Quality in craftsmenship, gs are all handmade and looked after one by one . Although rolex has perfected the machining of their watches nothing beats handmade
@@PeteNice29 But that's the thing, GS is not copying Rolex. They have a style all their own and the technology is really better than any other watch at the price point. Listen Rolex is Rolex and their crown is safe for a while ,but i believe thae in 10 years GS is going to be a major force,and they are going to do it the way the japanese car manufactures did. By one refinement after another
It's also analogous to what they did to the mechanical watch industry at the advent of quartz, but this time round they've taken the opposite approach and are looking to beat the Swiss on sheer quality.

Lange is amazing but it’s not even close to patek philippe the history , heritage , contribution and watchmaking of patek philippe is unrivalled and will always be

I watch a lot of watch channels but I feel compelled to say your production quality is next level. Most television channels are unable to provide this production or writing quality. It would be very interesting to know what line of work you are in and whether you work in television production? Love how you called out Rolex and Patek- whilst other channels insist on fawning over the mundane you look past all that nonsense. Hope you continue to keep it real and don't loss that independent thinking instead of following the crowd. More videos please.
Many people don't know that Grand Seiko has actually made a more accurate version of the standard 9R65 Spring Drive movement with the same accuracy as 9RA5 of +/- 0.5s/day (+/- 10s/month) called 9R15 in a very few selected limited edition models, dubbed "super spring drive". It comes with the classic 18k gold medals on the winding rotor. I'm fortunate enough to have it in my SBGA105 and I measured a silly +1s accuracy in over a month!
My basic SBGA373 did 6 seconds a month. it was insane seeing it stay so accurate

Thanks for another great video Brandon. Really like how GS is moving toward the 40mm case with 20-22mm lug width. A 22 taper to 20 provides nice symmetry with the rest of the watch, IMHO. Happy Holidays. 👍⌚🎄🎅🎉

As I write this comment, the surface of Lake Suwa, the symbol of my mother's hometown, is still shining on my arm since I was lucky enough to get it two weeks ago. It's a magical glow that brings me a happy calm rather than excitement. The glow of the white birch is beautiful, but I prefer the understated and deep glow of the dial, and the gliding movement of the spring drive matches the design of the dial. For me, the No. 1 watch for 2021 is definitely Lake Suwa.

Good stuff again, Brandon. Personally I prefer this to the White Birch, more subtle, although the 9SA5 movement in that is incredible with a standard of finishing that is next level for GS. Love the Spring Drive though - my SBGA373 is my favourite watch. I think we are going to have to get used to a drift upwards in price level with GS. Even with the new studio they are close to maximum capacity of how many watches they can produce - about 5% of what Rolex makes - and if they are going to grow their business they have to put more profit into each watch. To do that though the watches will have to get even more incredible than these so goodness knows what they have in store for us in 2022.

Yup, I know we're in the minority, but I like the white birch just a little bit more than the minamo. Spring drive is great, but I love the new movement in the 005. Looks a lot better too! I also slightly prefer the more textured dial and the indices extra depth in the grooves. The crown is more proportionate to the case and I like the look of the smaller date window too. Both great watches, but I give the slight edge to the slgh005.

A near perfect watch. GS makes it almost impossible for a rational luxury watch buyer (if that’s not an oxymoron) to buy any other brand. It’s just insane what they offer for the price. With a growing love of Japanese culture, they might also be the best long term investment too.
Love it, and was lucky enough to snag one myself.
Mark my words, this watch will go the way of the Whirlpool, KiraZuri and Peacock when it comes to long term collectability. Those watches had exquisite dials going for them... but this is that, along with a whole new tier of cases, movements and bracelets. The Birch and Minamo will be regarded as "Remember that time the world was falling apart, and Grand Seiko decided to crush everyone else anyway just because they could? That was also back when you could get a Grand Seiko under 10 grand..."
And I also agree, the White Birch is a fantastic piece. The only thing holding me back is the fact that aside from movement and dial, its nearly the same watch as the SLGA007. If they come up with a 44GS inspired "series-9" like update, along with a movement and dial on par with the White Birch... I would hurl my wallet through the GS boutiques window.

Love the white birch but the Suwa Lake just edges it for me. Slightly more understated and classy I think. The price put me off going for it initially as I've never spent that much on a watch before. Now I've put my name on the GS waiting list to see if they release any more!
I totally agree with you. It's more understated, but I love the flashiness. I like sparkly things lol. The movement also looks insane. I think both are home runs though. One subtle and one flashy. Haha good luck🤞you won't be disappointed

What I will say is about the integrated bracelet watches (Patek, AP, Cartier) is their watches are very thin so the adjustments on the bracelet is much less important than a thick sports/dress watch like this watch (which I like). Remember - the nautilus / AP are like 2 mm thinner still than the GS.

It’s my favorite brand also. The Springdrive is an amazing invention. Even when I hear how it works, I still don’t understand how it brakes the movement. My wrist is also 7.25 and my Snowflake fits me perfectly after removing a couple of links.

Big fan of GS. I'm a guy who wears his watch 24/7. So, the lack of lume is a big negative. If it weren't for that I'd have the White Birch (the tough part - which one?) on my wrist instead of a Sub.

hey brandon ... yes micro adjustemnt doesn't need it, i could configurate very well the bracelet cus it has 2 half links... and it is very cool, I could adjust mine so well... this about micro adjustemn is bs.. with all respect. you don't need micro adjustement...
