I love this video, your hearts, and your vulnerability! I have been a homestead dreamer for a few years, but recently the Lord has been convicting me and asking me WHY I want it. My husband is unable to care for a big property with me. I recognize the idolatry in my heart because of the romanticized persona of homesteading on UA-cam. I am working to be grateful for what I have, simplifying my life, and learning to live off of the land only in ways within honest capabilities. May the Lord Jesus Christ continue to bless, keep, and guide your beautiful family. ❤️🙏🏼
So well said. Glad to know I’m not the only one going through a farm reset. I think we have to try all the things to find our niche, market, and know what we are good at. It’s also an ongoing process. Our families, needs and resources are constantly changing over the years, and so must our priorities!
Our first 2 years doing our large garden was a lot of work, mostly with weeding, in our 55+ ages it was too much. The 3rd year we invested in the DeWitt garden weave mats, what a difference. That year we also went full micro sprinklers which helped with our water bill. Last year we decided to do a large water catchment system, we did the expense of putting gutters on our pole barn and can now collect 3000 gallons of rain water at a time and have a little water pump with timers. Our water bill has decreased considerably. Things people need to realize is all good systems come with trial and errors, we've certainly had our failures but you tweak it and move on.
A year of “pruning” only makes things healthier. Blessings to you as you release the things that were only for a season and hold tight to what is worth keeping. 💙
I was having trouble coming up either my “Word of the Year” While watching this video the word Resonated with me. I having been making lots of changes in my home “Reset” is the perfect word!
The great debate - do I work more off farm, do I do more on farm, what do I do without, what is my why! And for every person, this is different and there is no shame in that. You are so right that too many influencers make it all sound so lovely but when you have been doing this for decades, it just doesn't sit well. But I guess that's why they are successful and some of us are still cleaning out the chicken coop....lol. I totally respect your thought process and sharing your hearts on this. I think your pasture will thank you for it as well. The sheep and the chickens will help rejuvenate that as well. Although having a steer or two (or a milk cow and a steer) might not hurt either to help keep the weeds down.... just send to a processer when its time. It will be interesting to see how and what you do in the coming year. Wish you nothing but the best! Have a blessed day.
My dad always said you can raise 2 grown cows to one horse. Now if your going to go way back and have a plow horse or poney that is different. I would love one milk cow, raise the baby for food. That is all except chickens and a garden with the basics. With a smallish green house. That would be efficient enough. Milk and different easy cheeses. Veg to can that we use most. I have the means to do this, but im 71 y/0 with a grown family that has no interest! I try what i am able. God bless you!
Divide the big garden into smaller plots that each one grows something different. Tomatoes in one, squash, cucumbers in another and anything else your family will eat. And it’s okay to let some plots rest. And if the kids want to grow something they like it want be so much to take care of. Wish I had a small plot of my own but I have very rocky land and I have to go with raised beds and have to work around a septic tank (buried) and the field lines. I’m learning but it’s slow going.
Are you all not familiar with the actual Great Reset? Are you not familiar with the WEF? This seems to be a really poor choice for a title to this video considering everything that is about to be our reality.
I wondered about that exact thing too... Even UA-cam thought they were referring to WEF's Great Reset and put the warning on their video. 🤦I would have been shocked before this video if you told me they were not aware of the term and the implications culturally, religiously and economically, but apparently they are not. And ... Josh's comment on "the geopolitical issues we faced a few years ago"....🤔 they have not gone away and instead have multiplied by factors of ten! While I agree with the idea behind this video, now is not necessarily the best time to scale back on food production or adding to our self sufficiency.

I believe whole heartedly, do what sustains your family , grow your favorites , what you eat , and enjoy God and family above all else

Opportunity cost. Uncle Gary saying. Not all opportunities provide value for our family. As your kids age your values will change and grow with them.
"homesteading is just not fun when the systems are not set up well" 💯💯💯

This just sounds SO sensible. Good on you guys for learning about yourselves and for being reasonable.
I think this is a really responsible and necessary step for your family. It makes sense to pick and chose to do the things you love to do.
Thank you for your honesty. I was wondering. Love the videos.

Great video! Making adjustments and learning from experiences is part of life! Good work
