Very interesting account, if only the Germans understood they had been totally compromised by the British breaking Enigma I suspect the U-boats would have continued to wreak havoc for longer than they did.
Bletchley Park saved a lot of lives in that insane period of history. Bravo ladies and gentlemen, unsung heroes.

I Agree! The breaking of the enigma code is rarely given enough credit.

I bet most of the crew were secretly relieved.

Herbert Werner was born in 1920 and died in Vero Beach FL in 1920.
I think Iron Coffins is a very good book.

A lot of these add on snorkel systems were not very good. There wasn't enough time to improve them. The Germans actually captured Norwegian subs with snorkel systems early in ww2 but never saw a reason to equip their subs with it till it was urgently needed.

Snorkel equipment was a Dutch invention.

This is an excerpt from Iron Coffins by Herbert Werner. He eventually lived in Florida. Probably dead now.

Very interesting. A different sound coming from the German captains at this point in the war. Gone are the days of the wolf pack hunters, their trash talking and taunts of the convoys. Examples of these are part of the film Greyhound.

Great. For some reason, no advert interruptions.

I have Premium and have no adverts ever on YT. Well worth the monthly fee.

None of his crew. Injured or uninjured were innocents.😠

Soldiers are the same on all sides. They do what they are ordered to do. Innocence, guilt, are not words that applies to them unless they personally commit war crimes.. These sailors served honourably, for their country, if for the wrong cause. We honour our own veterans, even when they fight in immoral wars.

God bless these German heroes. They were slaughtered in the end after the enigma codes were broken and ASDIC became standard. 3 of 4 crew did not return. They served their country with great honor. Most very young men. The bravest if the brave. The best if the best. Rest in peace my brothers. It's a difficult thing to take on the entire world. Some of us understand the truth.

Interesting/informative/entertaining. Is that Admiral doughnuts 🍩 saluting the crew.-??? 😲 Due to his arrogant leadership disposition. Refusing to accept the reality that Bletchley park broke the enigma code. Sent many a U-boat crewman to " King 👑 Neptune's grave yard.😇😇😇😇. Seems like the U-Boat captain the orator is describing what was in his diary. Was a much better leader then Admiral doughnuts 🍩 was or ever would be-!!! 😉 .

Doenitz lost his own son in a sub. I think he paid the price. Aircraft are what screwed subs. Code stuff helped but wasn't all.
