WWE Hall of Famer and original 4 horsemen member Tully Blanchard discusses the differences between NWA and WWE when he jumped in the late 80's, winning the tag titles from Demolition and being managed by Bobby The Brain, matches with the Hart Foundation, leaving the company, being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and later producer job offers with the company that he didn't accept.

Tully looks great. He looks healthy. His tag team wrestling skills with Arn Anderson were as good as it gets. Demolition vs The Brain Busters in the best of 3 fall matches looked as real as it could be. Blanchard made wrestling look real. That is the best compliment.
Beat thing I can say about Tully: I hated him more than any other Horseman. He always seemed like that weasel, chick$hit heel and you just despised him. So, the man clearly did it right. Much respect.
You prolly dont care but if you are bored like me atm then you can stream all the new movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend during the lockdown :)

He was arguably the smallest of the horsemen too, so him transitioning to face to atone for his ways of his past would've worked had they prepped each Horseman like they did with Evolution, with Arn and Tully being future World champs vs. just muscle.
Tully and Arn were my favorite Horsemen. Loved them
Such an unappreciated talent. Loved his feuds with Dusty Rhodes, Ron Garvin and Magnum TA and Nikita Koloff. Wonderful and fantastic worker that I love watching to this day.
Vince should've gave Telly Blanchard another chance and let him stay the brainbusters was the best tag team in the WWF at that time 👊

I grew up watching him in the mid 80s in the NWA. A heck of a worker and a heel's heel. There was no middle ground with him. You simply HATED him. He was not only a great in ring worker but a master at generating heat. Just reading the couple comments here remind me of that. He really should be hired to lend his expertise in WWE.
I loved him. He was my favorite wrestler when I was a kid. I was a an extreme Four Horseman fan. I always liked Tully. He was just so cool in my eyes.

WWE is sterile acrobatics, and has been since Steve Austin was no longer wrestling full-time. The more their empire gets broken up, the better!

I know in the east coast back then SNME was on in place of SNL like once a month or so . It would always say that SNL will be seen next week so we can bring this presentation of the WWF , something like that .
The two guys I hated the most in pro wrestling as a little baby mark were Gino Hernandez (RIP) and Tully Blanchard. Two guys who had nuclear heat. You couldn't help but to loathe both of them. IDK if it's a cultural change or the post-kayfabe world wrestling navigates through, but you just don't have those kinds of guys anymore. I actually think that the WWE should step back and do more prerecorded stuff so that their heels can get better at getting over.
They weren't cool heels that wanted you to like them sothat their merch would sell . Good heels were hated and would get a percentage of the faces they putover merch sales

This man had impeccable timing in the ring. He was always where he was supposed to be. He had the sean Michaels arrogance before sean michaels was sean Michaels
Shawn admires him a lot. They are both from San Antonio so no wonder.
Dusty Rhodes said Tully was the reason the horsemen were the baddest guys on the planet. Brian Pillman could have been Blanchard for them but he was on a horsemen for like 6 months. They both could get a crowd HOT. REALLY wish Tully could have gotten a run in the 90's but I'm glad he is doing well. He actually follows me on Twitter!!!

Later on after the brainbusters run, it sounded like Tully wasn't taking any of WWE's bullshit. Here he is just saying it in the nicest, most professional way possible.
Outside the ring one of the - nicest - guys. That a fact.
The Horsemen, particularly Tully and Ric; Barry Windham (what an athlete), King Harley Race, Paul Orndorff (incredible tempo in his matches), Scott Hall, Scott Norton, Diamond Dallas Page and Sting (for his loyalty to NWA/WCW) were my favourite wrestlers.

Hannibal is right. Saturday Night Live would be preempted by Saturday Nights Main Event. At least in Central time zone.
There traditionally were 5 SNME'S a year (January, March, May/April, October and November) but in 89 they had 6 (They had one in July of 89) well 7 if you include Friday Night Main Event Show in early February where The Mega Powers split up setting up their Wrestlemania V match
Also had one of those special July shows in 1990 as the series started to wind down.
They also had a Friday Night Main Even after Survivor Series in December
Tully got really nice teeth.
Anyone know what the beef with JBL, that led to his not being hired as an agent was all about? Tully can be a somewhat mysterious figure in wrestling history, in that, in a business full of shady characters, Tully was considered a Scumbag's scumbag, vmery few wrestlers liked him, but we never really get to hear any goof reason why? He was an absolute lightning rod for heat, but I can't figure out what made him so much worse than the rest of the. Regardless, Tully is the best worker I ever saw, I remember as a little kid watchingWE TV. only 2 guys came in and dropped my Jaw. they seemed to be working on a level far above the rest the talent. Aside from JBL, the general story I read was Tully did not have the heart for the (wrestling) business anymore. Remember Tully basically stopped being a wrestler after he left WWE and he returned there 17 years later... that is a long time to be away. When he worked for WWE as an agent or producer for that one day, Tully realized that life is not for him.

Saturday Night`s Main Event aired at 11:30pm Eastern. SNL is an hour and a half... So SNME wouldn`t of started till 1AM...
There was no Saturday Night Live on the night of Saturday Nights Main Event. It took over its time slot of 11:30pm to 1am. I remember always having to beg my mom to let me stay up till 1am to finish it all.
Imagine if he was allowed to come back when the horsemen turned face....Tully wouldve fit perfectly because they were faces....BUT Tully had that sneaky devilish demeaner that would keep fans on their heels wondering at what point they're going to flip the script and go back to being heels

Why did Tully and Arn want to go back to the NWA. It was in worse shape than when they left it.
In the case of Arm it was the crazy WWF travel schedule. IIRC Arn had a young child at the time and wanted to be closer to home.

wait, so they had script writers back then? The attitude era wrestlers say that they didnt have script writers, just plot points for interviews. I guess in the 80s they were more scripted? This is interesting.
