I miss the ringside photographers. They added a sense of sports reality. Yeah, they would get knocked around by the wrestlers sometimes, but that was part of the charm.
And the darker lighting! I always enjoyed the MSG or Boston Garden matches on Prime Time Wrestling (86-87 era) with just the ring light rig lit. Again, gave it a more "real sports" feel.
@@paulcarpenter7844 I always laughed at that because it's just a wasted photo. The flash drowns out anything more than 6 feet/1.8m away, resulting in a black photo.
Hot take: What's missing not just in TV production but wrestling in general is: The Jobber role. hear me out. WE have out weekly TV shows being like tiny pay per views really. Known face vs known heel. Face wins clean, heel wins dirty. Standard fare , right? Wrong. These days the new performer is instantly established based on another performer losing to them or winning to them. That brings DOWN that performer. ' have to stare at the lights for the new kid to look good.' Regardless what wrestlers TELL you in interviews, that's borderline humiliating when you're in your own prime too. Establish the HEELS by letting them win clean against other lesser established locals again. Hire some locals for a few hundred to job out and make your talent look good without cannibalizing the hype from someone else.
Definitely need to bring back interviews and promos in front of just a portion of the crowd. When Crockett and WWF did this in the 80s it gave it much more energy. They need to script less.
He was walking it back, but people are actively dumber these days. There's no intellectual curiosity. As far as moving camera, it's wrestling, not Blair Witch Project.
Not Every Single Wrestler Needs A Backstage Scripted Interview. Similar To How Kevin Sullivan First Booked Goldberg In WCW. There Was A Mystique To Goldberg before Bill Goldberg Became A Mark For Himself.

I love the brain picking of Easy E, he’s got a great mind of the business and TV. All the small things that build up to a greatly shot professional product.
I agree, I thought the segment was funny and wasn't something distasteful that embarrasses pro-wrestling. it was a comedy segment based off of 90s comedy and Cameron clearly watched too much MadTV, In Living Colour, Lyrics & Lounge Show, and especially SNL. she's very much Cheri Oteri and Chris Farley inspired. is she on there level, no, but what she did wasn't something completely terrible but just a classic hit or miss.
I agree i think the openning doesn't get enough attention. Modern wrestling show opens so boring that next thing you know it's almost 30 minutes into the show and we still haven't had a match yet. Not good. They spend to much time regurgitating the smack talking script so that it really does start to sound like a soap opera instead of wrestling. Note to McMahon we viewers don't tune in for lip off contests.
10:45 its for those who want the feeling of standing right next to the talent but you've been bumping nose candy all-day with Tony Kahn version, you dont know why but i just got keep moving so your vision doesnt loose reception
*good wrestlers know how to act, have a great knowledge of ring psychology can cut a compelling and charismatic promo, and can think on their feet. Not someone who has good rope work and can get an out of touch, on the spectrum, ol marble mouth fool's stars. Ha.
Is there such thing as being _too_ produced? That's been WWE the last decade or so, but more so the last 2 years. It's like I'm watching ESPN or FOX sunday football instead of "wrestling".

The same reason why we should listen to that same guy who helped make modern wrestling what it is today. If it wasn't for Eric, WWF would still be running the cartoon-based characters with the same format that had already been played out for years at that point. Quit being so braindead.

@@Michael-ml6lu That's honestly what made the old syndicated Crockett stuff (World Wide and MACW/Pro) from 1983-1989 look so good.

I wish you so much luck Eric. I want you in wrestling. It is undeniable how much influence you have had one the game since the mid 90s
James should be the new host of 83 weeks Conrad has lost touch u don’t constantly try to interrupt ur guests
Great conversation with Eric, looking forward to full interview. WSI is great

I agree a lot of wrestlers don’t feel like stars these days
WWE essentially use NXT wrestlers as jobbers on Main Event
Have to agree. The heels gotta win clean to get over.

James gets more quality out of Eric than anyone else.
Who else would want to?
Bischoff speaking in the middle of the ring for 15 minutes every show was horrible. They’ve done that kind of thing ever since.
Him doing that was one of the main reasons they got the stellar ratings they got. What’re you talking about??
Anyone on the mic more then 5 minutes is ridiculous!
Sure thats why they had better ratings for 83 weeks, that was horrible indeed and people didnt like it at ALL🤦🤣
Oops.
@@ensabahnur7657i dont ANYBODY talked that long. Unless it was match commentary 😅. Maybe Hogan or Hall/Nash MAYBE😂
Always enjoy listening to Eric talk. He has great stories to tell .
I also hate the constant moving camera. The NWA did an old school segment a while back, it was great.

Filming the backstage scenes in TNA through the blinds of a window was fucking cool
The two people that James was talking about shaking stuff and being interviewed by Renee Paquette was Mina Shirakawa and Harley Cameron.

That Mina holly segment was the most entertaining female’s promo in a longtime.

Did that revolving camera technique start with MTV's reality shows? Like Real World.
😂😂😂 all my years on this earth. I never see a person have so much hate and jealousy in their heart for someone else company.

Reality TV 101, start your answer with the question your were asked
He awkwardly seems to misunderstand both questions, but still interesting
Great charity to give to!
FY👁, Minachan's "milk cake's" r real😜. Just wish over here they would focus on her wrastl'n which has significantly improved over da past few years...
Good wrestlers, who look like tough guys, that are in interlocking compelling storylines of the neverending struggle between good vs evil?

He HATES AEW

Yeah, that was part of the turnover after they ran out Dunn. Also, I'm sure Fox played a big factor in influencing that.
Eric has been spending the last 20 years trying to rewrite history and making it sound as if the fall of WCW was not his fault 😂😂😂
WCW started dying in November 1988, and they just kept finding cash to keep it on life support for thirteen years.
Never heard of that supposed successful actor
That's wild because his forrays into wrestling have gotten mainstream attention but fuck all that right?
He's awesome.
He is Stingray on Cobra Kai
watch Blackbird

EXACTLY
Go actually look at all thirteen years of WCW's existence. Aside from those 83 weeks, that company NEVER drew money like its predecessor.

I love his NJPW Tee. Awesome. 😎🫶
Modern wrestling just sucks
