You are awesome. Not only did it fix the app store, I am also now able to access the iTunes store as well. I haven't been able to do that for years! Thank you, thank you!
I looked and had nothing marked on my system root certificate , I tried everything listed here and nothing worked for me.what I did was to go apple website were I downloaded the older Mac OS version macOS Sierra( you don’t need App Store to install this one). Once it finish installing go to your application and open it from there ,you should be able to install the mcOS , bam I was connected to the App Store, and I was able to download high sierra that I needed . Hopefully this helps someone. It seem like the issue has to do with mountain lion mcOS .
I'm getting the same issue on an old Mac Mini 2012 however when I check the certs they all look fine. I even tried a fresh install and still can't get the app store on 10.8.5. How the hell can I update it if I can't get to the app store?
Well there are about 6 solutions for the same problem in these comments, and *none* of them work for me. Incredible. Here's my solution, throw this old laptop into the river.
+Brackynews I tried everything that people are saying here. Safari did not work for me as well as Appstore. Fixed both by simply ticking off automatic search after proxy in network prefrences. So: 1. System Preferences 2. Network 3. Under Wi-Fi connected select Advanced 4. go to proxy and untick the first box, 'autimaticly search for proxy' Lemme know if it worked :)
+Hodviking This worked to an extent. I found out I had the proxy boxes ticked, so I unticked them all, opened app store. it worked. signed in fine. Thanks Mate!!! Lifesaver!
my iMac with os x 10.6.8 had the same problem of inability to connect to App Store. I tried a lot of solutions including checking the certificates, changing the network setup, deleting the cookies, reseting the time but none work for me. Turned out that the Norton Antivirus was the culprit. I uninstalled it and the App Store works seamlessly after. I will install a newer version of the Norton later.
This was really helpful, but I thought I would comment for anyone having trouble with this even after checking in the Keychain. I tried every solution I could find on the web, with no luck, and I didn't have any blue crosses in my Keychain... so figuring out how to use the fix was becoming really frustrating. Anyway, I ended up going into Network Prefs and choosing a new location for my internet set up. That completely solved the problem for me. I hope this helps someone out there. So simple! :D
Omg, this still worked after 8 years!! I tried over 6 different things on UA-cam, none of them worked. Almost wanted to give up.. thank you so so so much!!!
it didn't work for me :/ the part where you go into the keychain access, all of mine were already set to no value specified . do you know whats wrong with mine?
Make sure to close App Store before doing this *Open Terminal *Copy & Paste the following ~ rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/* *Press enter All credits goes to alphaefficiency. thank them
Thanks! It's a complete mystery to me why this should work (and why that 'cannot connect' problem occurs in the first place), but it did the trick! Bless you for fixing this bug for me!
Could not connect to Appstore and my keychain access do not have any +sign. The below solution worked for me. 1. Navigate to Applications>Utilities>Keychain Access 2. Open Preferences 3. Navigate to Certificates tab 4. Change the settings for OCSP and CRL to “Off” 5. Reboot your mac and check Hopefully this works. I myself had to spend more than 48hours to find a solution. So, Spread the word and help others too.
instead of blue plus signs my macbook pro just shows blue certificates. If you dont find the plus sign make sure you carefully scroll through the list. It is easy to scroll it too fast to be able to identify one of the certificate errors. And yes i have always had the same problem with the app store ever since i bought this computer. Hope this helps
Eric Arrensen also to be sure that this is the same thing as the plus symbol, when i open the certificate i see the blue plus symbol at the top. therefore the BLUE CERTIFICATES ARE THE SAME AS THE ONES WITH PLUS SYMBOLS
I've tried both kpellet76 and Abby Purcell ways to fix but still didnt work. Then I found this in apple forum and worked for me. here is the link: discussions.apple.com/thread/2739085?start=15&tstart=0 rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/*
I'm not sure if this fix is still applicable with the latest updates (not that I'd know since I'm technologically challenged as it is) but even if it does still work, I do not have anything listed under "System Roots" in my keychain. Is that unusual? I'm having issues logging into anything that requires an Apple ID and it's driving me crazy. I do not know if it a problem with my mac, myself, or if it's because I'm currently living in a foreign country and my computer and phone are just like "f-that" despite the fact that the date and time are correct.
omg not only am I able to open up App Store but I also was having trouble opening up Cricut Design space and when I tell u I am shook I mean it was able to get that to work too!!! I don't normally comment on youtube but this video made my day it worked for me..but what I did was went on system>certificates. since I did not have any files with plus on system roots>certificates. just incase this might help anyone
I have a different problem. Trying to update my OS and have all the requirements, I clicked update it restarted after updating the EFI or whatever and now it wants me to sign into the App store and I click login and it keeps spinning, doesn't matter what I type either, I can type in the right password or the wrong one but nothing happens. No error message so nothing to work with.
+nateo200 I ended up getting it to work out. Let me try and refresh my memory since its been a while. IIRC I followed a guide online but ended up doing a bit of my own investigating. I ended up finding the update package online via a torrent website from a reliable source that I knew wouldn't give me viruses and I got a DMG file or other type of installer and installed via a flash drive and skipped the App Store all together, after that when my system was updated the App store was fixed. I had a partial download from the app store of the update that I had to delete first though if I remember correctly
Worked great for the first couple that I did, but there is one certificate that will not become "valid". Every time I go through the steps it says it has custom trust settings... any ideas?
I have a problem I hope u can help me. I'm trying to download some updates on the Mac App Store. But it freezes and when I click "force to quit" appears a message below App Store that's says "web content". What can I do? Please help. I can't update any app. Thanx
I had no blue +s. I fixed mine by: System Preferences > Network > Advanced (bottom right corner) > Proxies > Messing with the listed proxies. I had a SOCKS proxy that was unnecessary. Unclicked it, hit 'OK' then 'Apply' and boom. It all works.
mine is having the same problem. reason facetime didn't work was because i've swapped phones (android). the app store for me goes black when it says 'unsecure connection', which probs means i'm hacked or there's something weird going on. called tech support, many solutions, none worked sadly.

Your time and date must have been different from your original country timeline. Try changing your time and date back to normal
@Darkmoonproduction thank u :)
As you said i did all those things and i found that my all certificate are already on right way but still my apps store says cannot connect..
Me too
Just make sure that the time and date is correct..go and check people
Ohh thank you!
THANK YOU MY HERO😊😊😆😊😆
queen A thanks it worked
it was fine
Make sure your time and date are set correctly. Sometimes even setting your clock to wrong time and then back to correct time will work.
I have an older I Mac (2006) and I can log in to the app store but does not let me purchase or get any free apps, can you help me with this Problem
Try to update the apps store. Thats where I would start.

I see some success with setting the time date ahead then back to set automatically. If that does not work I would bring it into the apple store.
