Hey there scotty I drive a honda crv 2000 I had a problem with the brakes.. it made my vehicle slow down.. I'm assumed that my calipers were bad and so did my parents, so I managed to get brand new calipers and brake hoses for both the driver and passenger side of my vehicle.. I'm still having the same issue, when the car cools down it turns on and drives perfectly but after 15 minutes the brake paddle hardens and my vehicle struggles to accelerate due to the friction of the brake pads, it always smells like burnt brake pads down there, can you maybe suggest some possible issues thanks
Woh! Solution from 8years ago! Well, this worked for a truck that had given me quite a long stretch for a fortnight! Thanks Scotty... I hope you still rocking
@GraniteBees not always, it pulled to the left on that road the way it was pitched as that wheel continued to move on the left following the drainage of the road. which side pulls where is always dependant on many variables. that's why you check both sides before doing any work.
Hey Scotty, thought I'd add a quick comment on your video for your subscribers. Be careful when putting brake fluid in your car, brake fluid destroys clear coat, and if you get it on your hood or fenders you can ruin your paint! Nice video, and thanks for the info!
Scotty I have used a lot of your videos for reference wile doing work on my 77 Vette. Complete life saver. Thanks again for your videos. Straight to the point and how to fix the problem.

BRAKES PULL TO ONE SIDE If your vehicle suddenly swerved to one side when you apply the brakes, there is uneven braking side-to-side. This usually means one front brake is not working properly. The pull will be toward the side with the good brake (because it is doing all the work). Brake pull can be caused by brake fluid, oil or grease on the brake pads, a stuck caliper, a blockage in the brake line to one of the front calipers, or sometimes loose wheel bearings. A brake pull can also be caused by different types/brands of brake pads side-to-side on the front brakes. Different friction materials have different friction characteristics, so the brakes will pull toward the side that generates the most friction.
Youve gone and done it again scotty the proper steps in their proper order. im pretty sure youve saved me some money, either way I wont be spending any needlessly due to improper diag order. Blessings.
2:36 Brake fluid is corrosive & will attack paint, your handling the paintwork with dirty gloves. Then you spash fluid everywhere when you refill the resevoir. :O
I cannot understand people like you. It's so obvious that maybe for you it's a hunk of shit, but it doesn't mean it's the same for its owner. A good mechanic should take same care of every care car he repairs - IT'S A STANDARD!
It's not the gloves, that would bother me. It's all the spilled brake fluid, that will eat through the paint in just a matter of days = future severe rust issues.
Thanks for your videos! I thought I knew a little about cars, but I learn something new with every video I watch from you. I'm saving tons! Thanks again!
Ok to Scotty & the commenters here's the deal. For as many videos Scotty's posted here it would just seem prudent to add some words and caution regarding safety. Overall the advice on these videos is intelligent from having 44 years of experience, however I add: 1. When jacking any vehicle to work on it, always support with quality jackstands, a must! 2. Generally speaking brakes line are very rusted and don't break loose this easily. 3. Brake fluid is caustic to paint, use caution. Good luck!
Awesome video Scotty! I've watched every single one and I love reading comments from people that say you are doing something wrong. Yeah like they know more then someone with 44 years of experience right? I bet most of the people that leave stupid comments aren't even 44 years old!
Scotty, I think it's worth mentioning to be extra careful when dealing with anything involving inverted flare fittings. If you start torquing them up and wind up cross threading, it's a major pain to swap out the lines and they break very easily. Keep up the good work!
I have a 99 Taurus. Just the other day i had the rear tires replaced along with right front outer tie rod and wheel alignment done and now when i come to a stop car veers to left when braking. Thoughts?
perfect video. A note to add. You said "have someone press on the brakes" ( while bleeding them) etc. I need to note that when they do press on it,tell them do not let up until you retighten the brake bleeder,or it'll just suck more air in. Other then that. good video. :)
realize brakes can pull from brake problems, or from front end problems. Air in the brake system can do that, as can any worn front end part. find a good alignment shop, most can figure that out quick
hardy har har. It's not mine, it sat for 16 years unused, and that was right after I got it running. It no longer smokes, runs great after a couple weeks with me.
Just something I do FWIW... I hold down the brake pedal by wedging a crowbar between it and the seat. That keeps the brake fluid from flowing out while you work. If it'll be more than 15 minutes or so, I pull the fuses for the rear brake lights so they don't drain the battery. Although, admittedly, not a lot would come out as fast as you work!!
Hey Scotty.excellent video as usua l! the only thing I would add is for people to always use jack stands whenever raising a vehicle..most people would know to do this , but just in case there are some that don't. (.especially when someone is going to be inside the car stepping on the brakes ,while your under it tighting the bleeder screw.) keep up the good work ! keep up the great videos!
@MicrosoftCPU3 the reason I haven't made evap repair videos is because you really need a dealer level scan tool and a smoke machine to make such repairs correctly. Without just wild guessing. And seeing that most people will never buy such expensive equipment, such videos would be useless for most people. and yes, cannisters do break down if you want to guess on an evap repair.
good vid but something to add is once those flex lines get clogged up chances are the caliper is gummed up too now. may be good to rebuild the caliper or just get a new one.
@blarson12 BUT, we mechanics get lots of money fixing em, and many people like to save money. Or, don't even have much money to spend in the first place.
Scotty I’m having a hard pull to the right when braking in my Nissan nv2500 I checked to make sure the brakes were working on both sides . Caliper isn’t frozen . I replaced the passenger front hose and still the same problem I am going to replace the passenger front caliper tomorrow
does bushings involve in braking problems too? cuz i have a toyota 1983 and the brake system is new complete but still got problems and i hear a person say that if the bushings were bad the brake system will not operate correctly is this true and thanks for your amazing videos
any worn suspension part can do that, I'd advise a trip to a good front end mechanic, most give free estimates on work that needs doing. Even I use those guys at times when stumped by no obvious bad parts
I had a slightly worn wheel bearing that caused that for me. It had barely any of the usual bearing-going-south noise, but was just a little harder to turn by hand. I changed it, and it now accelerates straight again.
Hi, Thanks for all the good info I have a question for you . I have a 2006 Smart for two diesel cranks but it does not turn on, So I checked the fuel. injectors and crankshaft sensor are all good but do not turn on, and all the cylinders are good too

how do i know if the master cylinder is sticking a little bit? , since i cant see all the way inside the cylinder. thanks for the help and the super fast reply . cheers :)
@Warhawk407 the hoses near the callipers are the ones that wear out first. Idle speeds vary, but 1000 is a tad bit high on most cars. O2 sensors generally don't cause high idle, watch my video "how to fix a car that idles poorly" for fixes.

Right ? Back when Scotty went “uh!” More When something was on tight 😂😂😂
As someone who’s not mechanically inclined and learning everything on their own this definitely helped me. Thank you.
Hey Scotty, thought I'd add a quick comment on your video for your subscribers.
Be careful when putting brake fluid in your car, brake fluid destroys clear coat, and if you get it on your hood or fenders you can ruin your paint!
Nice video, and thanks for the info!
Also dot 3 and 4 can easily be cleaned up with water, just do not get water into the brake system.
I'm sure he knows that. Being a mechanic longer than you've been alive lol.
@calk87 oh, come on now, this is an old beater car, and it was starting to rain so I was in a hurry.
wow, your that careless, wouldn't want you working on my car.
yes, and do right rear, left rear, right front , and left front when bleeding in that order.
I love how you pour the brake fluid in 😂 ✌🏼
Yeah that was savage
Lmao! He's just so care free. No preciseness to him at all. Imagine him as a surgeon 🤔

You keep saying front brakes, but I have this issue because of my rear brakes
Jazaka Allahu khairan brother, you have saved me lots of investigational work.
Thank u much
I have an old mx5 and your videos have saved it's life thank you
I searched “brakes pull to right” because my BMW e21 has this problem and this is the first video to pop up. I love Scotty and my Mind-reading phone!!
Youve gone and done it again scotty the proper steps in their proper order. im pretty sure youve saved me some money, either way I wont be spending any needlessly due to improper diag order. Blessings.
@jonathanyip343 As I've already said, it started raining and I was in a hurry on that old thing.
Well done, man. I love your energy. Something that's sorely needed in this day.
@FromThe3PointLine headlights dim because the alternator isn't charging, the battery is weak, or the wiring has grounding problems. check those first.
You are one of my favorite youtubers!
Scotty, I appreciate the work you do for us - people in need.
A lot of this stuff is really useful!
You clearly know what you are talking about. Your videos are educational and entertaining. And you are a Ford guy. Subscribed.
That is a " GREAT " & easy example you showed there, SIR SCOTTY.
i wish if had such a talented mechanic like u in our town !
He condenses all this great info and logical troubleshooting into 3 minute videos, This guy is good!
2:36 Brake fluid is corrosive & will attack paint, your handling the paintwork with dirty gloves. Then you spash fluid everywhere when you refill the resevoir. :O
AHAHAHAHA exactly my thoughts. But I'm sure he changed his gloves before touching that hood.
He knows.
I cannot understand people like you. It's so obvious that maybe for you it's a hunk of shit, but it doesn't mean it's the same for its owner. A good mechanic should take same care of every care car he repairs - IT'S A STANDARD!

Thanks for your videos! I thought I knew a little about cars, but I learn something new with every video I watch from you. I'm saving tons! Thanks again!
@suzukiholdenman old age does that, especially if you have hydraulic lifters. Try adding a quart of lucas oil additive, that can stop it.
@dmcadik drums in the front would have hoses, yes. But in the back they normally have solid steel lines.
Very concise and on point. No unnecessary blabber. Thank you Scotty! Appreciation! 🇿🇦

@RelentlessIntentions there's hardly any paint left on this beemer. It's getting a full paint job when it runs fine.
@zerohunter64 yes, if bushings are worn, hitting the brakes can cause pulling to the worn side.
Scotty, I think it's worth mentioning to be extra careful when dealing with anything involving inverted flare fittings. If you start torquing them up and wind up cross threading, it's a major pain to swap out the lines and they break very easily. Keep up the good work!
I love the sound effects you make! It's pricelss!
Great video as well, I am a frequent viewer!
@Vacmasterthegreat of course it is, you analyze the whole car till you find the problem and fix it. In this case, a hose fixed it.
@MrShtirlitz often a front end alignment or worn front end part will do that.
I have a 99 Taurus. Just the other day i had the rear tires replaced along with right front outer tie rod and wheel alignment done and now when i come to a stop car veers to left when braking. Thoughts?
@bamac2008 yep, no brakes are normally master cylinders or other hydraulic problems.
perfect video. A note to add. You said "have someone press on the brakes" ( while bleeding them) etc. I need to note that when they do press on it,tell them do not let up until you retighten the brake bleeder,or it'll just suck more air in. Other then that. good video. :)

hardy har har. It's not mine, it sat for 16 years unused, and that was right after I got it running. It no longer smokes, runs great after a couple weeks with me.
yes, change the rubber brake hose it must be collapsing. Only a stuck master cylinder would be the other possible cause
Good job with the step by step troubleshooting
I love this guy! Thanks Scotty. My caliper was sticking on the left side. Greased it up and good to go!
Great video.
Diagnosed my problem exactly.
Hey Scotty can you make a video on how to fix car alignment problem when you get the chance? Thank you!
Just something I do FWIW... I hold down the brake pedal by wedging a crowbar between it and the seat. That keeps the brake fluid from flowing out while you work. If it'll be more than 15 minutes or so, I pull the fuses for the rear brake lights so they don't drain the battery. Although, admittedly, not a lot would come out as fast as you work!!
small front end problems often do that from the torque of the engine. That's not road slant, have a pro alignment guy check the front end out
many things can do that, but normally it's alignment slightly off. It can be adjusted by a front end man
@blackandwhiteslalom worn suspension parts, such as bad ball joints
Hey Scotty.excellent video as usua l! the only thing I would add is for people to always use jack stands whenever raising a vehicle..most people would know to do this , but just in case there are some that don't. either wheel cylinders need replacing, or brakes need adjusting to even them out. Pull the drums to see if cylinders are leaking
feel bad, because I watch loads of these videos and keep forgetting yo like. great channel.
I like the trick to check the hoses, didn't knew it. Thanks!
im in collage to became an autotechnician. i love ur videos an i hope one day i became as good as you are..
@MrTee448 yea, they are stronger than flare nut wrenches. I used to use those, now I use crowfoots.
@PDizzleRizzleSizzle should have changed the rotors too, they are somewhat warped. Change em quick, or the pads will warp too
@blarson12 that's why I make these videos to make it easier for people to fix their own, you should take a course in inferring.
thanks scotty your the best.us non a holes really appreciate you.
just found the problem . it was a stuck caliper.

@blummiiii the front end has serious wear, have it checked out as I show in my video "how to check your car's suspension"

@Nalcora I would change the pads to match the rotors, that makes em sway like that.
good vid but something to add is once those flex lines get clogged up chances are the caliper is gummed up too now. may be good to rebuild the caliper or just get a new one.
@blarson12 BUT, we mechanics get lots of money fixing em, and many people like to save money. Or, don't even have much money to spend in the first place.

Great video 💪🏼💪🏼
@Nalcora Usually shaking when you press on the brake means bad rotors. They might not have actually done it.
any worn suspension part can do that, I'd advise a trip to a good front end mechanic, most give free estimates on work that needs doing. Even I use those guys at times when stumped by no obvious bad parts
I had a slightly worn wheel bearing that caused that for me. It had barely any of the usual bearing-going-south noise, but was just a little harder to turn by hand. I changed it, and it now accelerates straight again.

just put it in neutral to spin it. But if it only did it once, just bleed the brakes first, could be dirty fluid doing that.
@Warhawk407 the hoses near the callipers are the ones that wear out first. Idle speeds vary, but 1000 is a tad bit high on most cars. O2 sensors generally don't cause high idle, watch my video "how to fix a car that idles poorly" for fixes.

@Compwhiz128 hey one question at a time. Kinks can be carefully unbent if not too bad by carefully using locking pliars.
@djmussy18 cause it wasn't working and now it was. and when I road tested it, the pullng stopped after putting the hose on.
Hi, I dont know where to post a request but I wonder if you can make a video about how to install an "outer temperature-sensor" and the display in a volvo 940 ? Have a nice day
Nice bimmer Scotty I have the same car, but after bleeding the brakes how I purge the clutch in this car correctly? thanks
@trombe1990 no it doesn't vibrate when braking, it vibrates when i drive at the hwy or drive around 60-75mph. i am guessing it may be my tie rods or rack and pinion. what do you guys think?
Thank you sir . Your videos are the best

Thank you for your help, I love watching your videos, they taught me alot :D
of course check the wheel bearing first, they often go bad and make the rotor loose.
very heavy handed when pouring the brake fluid, i hope scotty cleaned up the spilt fluid
Same happened to my 1985 gmc 1500. Thanks Scotty
Scotty Ur my new hero ! Lol keep up the great work
