Absolute killer album - every song, but to me this is one of the best songs they've ever done. They really went out of their comfort zone on this one and they hit it out of the park. I love the 60's folk feel of it. You can hear echos of songs like California Dreaming in it. Thanks for listening and sharing! Peace from SF
This is quite mellow for RHCP. The Power OF Equality or Suck My Kiss from Blood Sugar Sex Magic are more in the Give It Away funky/rock style. Personally, I have a fondness for their less successful One Hot Minute album, which includes the excellent Aeroplane and Deep Kick and the wonderfully demented Coffee Shop.
I love OHM too, and when I saw Chad at a drum seminar and had him sign it, he was like "Oh, THIS ALBUM" lol. I am far more of a Jane's Addiction fan than I am a RHCP fan, over time. There was a point around 1991 where they were equal but the Chili Peppers just didn't carry the weight over time. They are good, don't get me wrong, and the two bands are permanently intertwined, but I just prefer Jane's.
You wouldn't think it, but the peppers can get realll chill when they want to. Porcelain, Dosed, Animal Bar, I Could Die For You, etc. They're way more than just crazy funky.
When I bought this, I had to get the cassette as the local shop was sold out of the CD. But I had to have it on release day. Lol. There’s a documentary that’s shows the recording of this album. The percussion break on this song includes the band banging in trash cans, if I recall correctly. The album was recorded in a (supposedly) haunted mansion in Hollywood.
Banger album. Definitely check out some of the funkier tracks. Personal favourites are Funky Monks, Mellowship (slinky in b major), and The Righteous and the Wicked.
Good track, and quite paired back for the peppers. Some really nice acoustic. I was a big fan bitd, got 6 of there first 7 albums. Checking their discog, didn't ever recognise the 3rd, not sure how that slipped past me. Not listenend to them in a while though. I remember being disappointed with Californication, and drifted away from them after that... I can be a fickle devil :)
There're no gaps between songs on this album - if you listen to it digitally and your playback system can't play it seamlessly throw it in the trash and get a better system
@@Owlstretchingtime78 I probably heard it a long time ago like other Faith No More albums but none left an impression on me (like all the other RHCP albums which never pleased me).
I always forget that RHCP has songs that I like. This one of them of them. Also Snow and maybe 2 or 3 others. Most people loved this record in my High School but it just wasn't my taste. I prefer the singing of Eddie and Chris and Kurt.
Often compared to Faith No More and that's perfectly understandable, but R.H.C.P's have yet to deliver an album that approaches the sheer brilliance of "Angel Dust". Kerrang magazine voted it the most influential album of the 90s, and along with Nirvana's "Nevermind" i have to agree. Mike Patton has the most remarkable vocal range that i believe you have to experience, and there's no album better than "Angel Dust" with which to do so. I'm a patient guy, but please consider this album somewhat down the road. It really is that good! 🤞
This entire album is perfect. Not a band song, every song is great. Each song leads into each other makes it even better.

This is their best album, one of those albums that’s best to hear from start to finish
This album is a masterpiece. Every song is strong. You can really tell how good they are as musicians.
Incredible album! Not into all of their music, but that album is tits. Super funky rock with killer grooves. Very fun to play on guitar.
I’m with you on this one!! I love this album
It’s John frusciante singing those high backing vocals btw🌶
Great drumming.

Coffee Shop is awesome

As everyone else is saying, this album is an absolute masterpiece. Definitely should do the whole thing.
My favorite song by the Peppers. This song is played by our local rock station consistently. Great review JP!
The music video for this song rules too!
Love singing this @ karaoke
Back when this band was good...great album.
Glad you like it, cool track, very good album.
RHCP are the best exponents of smooth, controlled power that I think I've ever heard.
I saw a making of video for this song. The drum break is Chad playing on car parts.

I've always wondered if that flutey sound was actually a mellotron (of sorts).
This is my favorite album of all time, you HAVE to listen to all of it!!! 🤘🤘🤘
This album and By the Way are both magnifiscent.
Very good album … a nice departure during a time in rock when Grunge was the alpha canine running around unleashed and all crazy-like at the Dog park.
Lol that description 🤣🐕🦺
Funky Monks, Apache Rose Peacock, Mellowship Slinky in B Major, Sir Psycho Sexy… this whole album is fantastic.
*edit: stupid auto correct
this album is pretty great!

Great album that.
Justin, you should check out 2 tracks before this wonderful song
Not my favorite band and not my favorite singer, but the groove and melody here are just undeniable.
I only like one Red Hot Chili Peppers album and it's their funky 1985 George Clinton-produced Freaky Styley.
Are you familiar with Faith No More's "Angel Dust"? Imo, it puts this bunch in the shade!

RHCP, like a lot of 90s bands, have an introverted style. It's almost like Middle Eastern music, like No Doubt's Don't Speak.
RHCP is a band that has never clicked with me. I don’t care for the vocals, the songwriting, the playing, and the overall sound. I’ve tried…
How do you feel about Faith No More?
Same.
Too… funk rocky?
@@lifespanofafry1534 I'm not a huge fan myself, but their album "Angel Dust" is worth a listen on UA-cam.
@@Owlstretchingtime78I haven’t heard enough FNM to have a solid opinion. It’s hard for me to get past the voice.
@@Owlstretchingtime78From the early 90’s, I like more bands from the Grunge movement; Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, etc.

Not a RHCP fan at all but this song is cool.
