- In this video I drive the new Lotus Evija hypercar on the F1 track in Portugal, the new electric hypercar from Lotus. Also experience the craziness of the limited edition new Lotus Type 66 based on the unique race car from the 1970’s.
Lotus invited me to Portugal to be one of the first to drive the new Evija hypercar. The Evija has 4 electric motors which gives 1500 kw power and 1704nm torque to produce 0-186mph in 9.1 seconds and a top speed of over 200mph. The Lotus Evija has a real feeling of the Lotus racing DNA, the Evija handles extremely well around the track. It’s not just a 2000bhp hypercar that is just fast in straight lines, it’s a hypercar beast that is a true driver’s car which is so exhilarating and enjoyable to drive, especially on a F1 track!
Driving the Lotus Evija on track was a thrilling experience but sitting as a passenger with a lotus racing driver on a full power run with 2000bhp, really pins you back in your seat! Truly electrifying!
During the track day I was also able to experience the ‘Lost Lotus’ racing car, the Lotus type 66. A crazy looking and awesome sounding 1970’s race car which has been created as a celebration of the Lotus 75th anniversary. Just 10 cars will be produced.
After such an exhilarating day on the F1 Portugal race track, I spent a relaxing day on the Algave, staying at the 5 star Vila Vita luxury Hotel and private yacht to the stunning Benagil caves.
Look out for my next video on the Lotus Evija, a trip to the Lotus HQ and factory in UK.

Even from the video you can feel how powerful this acceleration is.
Electrifying
What an immensely beautiful thing this is.
Just fabulous.
I’m so excited for Lotus and their future. 😍👌🏻
Beautiful car. Hard to gauge performance w no sound but I m sure it’s fast
What a beautiful hotel. I had no idea Portugal had palm trees 🌴
I need to look up this location. That excited me more than the track coverage 😅
F YEAH!😮❤
I like the Evija and the Emira
Love the car. What is the price?
No V-box, no dragy, no data... We only have a claimed number: 0-300 km/h in 9.1 seconds... That's Formula 1 acceleration!
So how much battery does it use per lap on full tilt.
Who gives a 💩?- look at it!
(As long as it doesn’t stop after 2 obviously! 😂)
Hyper fast hair dryer
sounds funny
2nd comment😊
Lightest ev ever produced? NOT lol, maybe lightest 4motor awd ev produced. But the og tesla roadster is under 1,400kg.
The mcmurty speirling ev is 1,000kgs etc. 👍🏻😀
That's a shame. I want 3000 hp and won't take anything less.
Can you try building a 3 tonne car with 3000hp please Lotus.
I'd also like a door opening light that shines the price of the vehicle onto the ground when i get out.
Thanks for keeping it real and being so accessible Lotus.

They may be fast, but watching electric cars is hilariously boring 😂
Electric cars have no soul…
Just stick a proper engine in already.. Absolutely stunning looking car but this electric nonsense is doing my head in! Such a waste. Something as glorious looking as this car should be packing a V12- no less. With all the technical no how in engineering these days, I think they should be able to design and manufacture a V12 that has all the attributes we know and love about such a power plant, but with some others like super fuel efficiency, low CO2 and emissions in general. As for the Emira being the last proper engined car for lotus. Big mistake. They need to make more of the same with regards to their new baby and elaborate with different versions- like with the Elise. This Evija- Such a beautiful thing with the soundtrack of washing machine!! I do think though, that if you are to take this route with cars, then Kia have the right idea with their new super hatch back. The synthesised sound of a petrol engine in their new offering does seem to go a long way by adding back in some semblance of soul. Anyways enough rant:)
Adding engine noise to the Evija? It’s the opposite of polishing a turd, it’s like illuminating the painting Free form with a plastic up lighter from Temu. It’s not pretending to be an ICE vehicle. Just think of the whiny motor the soundtrack to your inner anxieties around battery life. A V12 wouldn’t fit in the Evija and you’d loose the rear lights if it was squeezed in.The Emira’s doing well with being one of the only manual offerings in its class. I sound like a lotus advert. It’s a bit underpowered though which will be addressed later I think. It’s pretty much the same as the Evora but has the potential to be a bit like the 911 in that they’ve both been going for ages. I’d like to see an emira with an ammonia fuelled engine. Until then, I suppose the Evija is the best green model and has carbon ceramic + regen braking so only tyre particulate emissions. I don’t think Lotus are that arsed with power as it’s heavier. Mid-weighted go karts seem to be their goal. Hand built in uk too btw.
this is like the car of my dreams. there's literally lot of others ice hypercars for you. this masterpiece isn't for you. i hate ice cars. it's all about personal taste i guess.
boring
