- Pros and Cons associated with living in Tucson Arizona. From the higher elevations to the lush high desert on down to the crime of South Tucson Az.
Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. Lived in Tucson/Marana for the last six of my 34 years in AZ. Loooooooove Tucson. Friendly people, absolutely stunning scenery, plenty of culture, food to die for.
To me Tucson has so many more positives that by far out weight the negatives. All the things you mentioned are HUGE pluses. Phoenix is just another big city. Tucson is not a small town so of course its going to have better and worse places to live. People always say that about Tucson, but you all dont think Phoenix doesn’t have “rough” areas? because yes it does as ALL cities do. Tucson has “flavor” its not just another cookie cutter city and that with the views makes it tops in my book! Not to mention all the nature!!!
Merica 4Realz Best comment.
Thanks for saying this
1000% agree!
That makes sense. I would look at it like there is a time and a place for everything. A time for the quiet, a time for more excitement, music and whatever. A time for everything also nature walks or hiking. A few nice bars and clubs.
I visited both places. I do like Phoenix and it has a very nice downtown. I visited the gorgeous Heard museum and saw most the the west side is poor with some middle class areas northwest. The east side is very affluent. Tempe is a bustling college town with life. Other than being the hottest city in the US, its still a great place to live although much more expensive than Tucson. Tucson is more affordable with a middle class hometown feel. This city has more mountains and still nice places to go to that have a bit more greenery. Depending on your income. Both are good. I have chosen Tucson.
I liked Tucson, when the population was about 300,000.
My air force father was stationed in Tucson in 1959 when I was 4. I began to appreciate my surroundings around age 10 when The Old Pueblo had approximately 260,000 residents. Tucson has changed but mostly for the better. It is a big city without the big city feel. Shopping has improved greatly thus eliminating trips to the Evil Empire in the North. Even before the shopping scene got better nothing in Phx could compare to Broadway Village or Casas Adobes Shopping Center. There was nothing like Fourth Ave. in Phx at the time.
Tucson became an astronomy hub with telescopes high up in the Catalina's and on Mt. Hopkins in the Santa Rita's. Kitt Peak on the way to Ajo is the home of Kitt Peak National Observatory, home to one of the largest arrays of optical and radio telescopes in the world. Because of this, Tucson is quite conscious when it comes to light pollution.
While Phx has a great zoo, Tucson is home to The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum dedicated the the flora and fauna found in the Sonoran Desert.
When I tell people I want to move to Tucson, everyone always mentions the crime. But I've been living in gang territory in Chicago for the past 3 years, so it really can't be that bad by comparison, right?
Tucson is not Chicago at all. I lived there ten years and didn’t have any problems. The heat is the only concern in Tucson. And the south side of Tucson is like being in Mexico.
Right! Ive lived in Tucson for years, and Chicago is a lot worse
do they mention the racism from Hispanics...it is a problem...
Originally from San Francisco, I went to UofA and lived in Tucson for 4 years (09-13) in the university area - first in the dorms, then north of campus on Euclid and then south of campus on E 7th St. I loved Tucson and the people. There is a great sense of community in Tucson and people are much more friendly than in California. What I really loved about Tucson was the fact that it has its own unique character and flavor - lots of local businesses and restaurants (great food! check out Mi Niditos), not too much urban gentrification (not a Starbucks on every corner) and people from Tucson take a lot of pride in their city.
The notion of Tucson being "ghetto" needs to be broken down. There are a few areas (most notably South Tucson and parts of the West Side) that are in need of rehabilitation and city/county intervention (i.e. run down buildings and communities that look like the city forgot about them 20 years ago). I'll also mention there are no street lights once you get into the neighborhoods, but not sure if this has changed since 2013. This can present a danger when walking at night and I walked many friends home to their house/apt when we were studying late in the library or coming home from parties.
Overall, comparing Tucson to PHX, Tucson is not as built up and modernized as PHX which can be a pro and con. I like that Tucson still has the "Wild West" and "Old Pueblo" feeling and sense of community, but there are drawbacks, especially around city planning. Of note, there is not a drainage system in place when it rains. When it does rain, the streets get really flooded and it makes driving (not to mention walking) tough and potentially dangerous.
Would I move back to Tucson? Personally, no. If I had a good job or could work remotely, I'd consider it. For me, Tucson was a great place to go to school and grow into adulthood. If there were more job opportunities in Tucson and the surrounding areas, that may change my mind.
I think your dog was eating a cricket. Watching the animals kept me entertained.
I've lived in Phoenix in 1976 - 1978. And I moved to Tucson, after retiring, and live in Tucson the last 6 years. Phoenix was about 200,000 more in population larger THEN, than what Tucson is NOW! And Phoenix had (just like Tucson today) had only ONE freeway! Traffic was unbearable. .
What Tucson has for good points (according to me) Tucson has a "sense of community". Down Town Tucson has lots going on! Phoenix was dead down town, last time I was there (2010) It is a lush desert. It's much more progressive minded than Conservative Phoenix! And the HUUUGE event in November, 'All Souls Procession' . There were 125,000 attending it last time I went! Another thing comparable of Tucson & Phoenix, is Tucson preserves water by NOT putting lawns in there front yard! We have desert landscapes in our yards, instead!
The bad of Tucson=(according to me) when it rains, the inner city has NO DRAINAGE! The streets are DANGEROUSLY dark at night, because we are a "Star Gazing Community", because of the observatories! This man is WRONG about the size of U of A ! We are 2nd to Arizona State. I live in the West University District.
I’m from Hawaii and living on Oahu in Aiea lol....I own a house in Tucson that is being occupied by my nephew who plays baseball for the University of Arizona...I love visiting AZ and also watching all your videos, keep up the good work!
Tucson is more beautiful than Phoenix. I live in foothills area for about two year. I love it.
The Town of South Tucson is ONE square mile in size. Maryvale, South Phoenix are massive in comparison and much more crime ridden.
Moving out to Arizona sometime in the next year or so! Love the Phoenix/ Scottsdale area.
Me too, God willing!!!😁
Tucson is nice. I live on the south side, no problems...yet.
I live 5 miles south of airport no problems here either
U say yet? I lived and grew up in tucson,ur in south tucson is bad!!!
I’m moving to there please I read in the net but I found not safe ,??
@@HEALTHYLIVE-rr3qy DONT MOVE TO SOUTH SOUTH TUCSON,,,ITS NOTHING BUT GANGS!!I GREW UP THERE!!ITS NOT SAFE PLACE TO LIVE!!TRUST ME!

Thankyou for the video, anything on Sierra Vista AZ.?
Tucson is like most cities in that there are areas to avoid after dusk, and in general at any time. Some areas may have a little territorial scope in social perspective. Noting that; After dusk - if you don't have a prescribed destination with purpose for being there - Be somewhere else.
Temp in Tucson/elevation about 10deg lower than Phoenix
Be advised, if you are a young family and have toddler kids, it can be tough. You just can't send them into the backyard to play when the yard is covered in rocks and cacti abound. And, during July and August, those playgrounds remain sizzling hot to the touch, unless you're there EARLY in the morning. During those hot months, you'd better have a large indoor play area or shaded pool to access to keep those kiddos entertained. Yes, there's a Children's Museum. But, that gets pretty crowded in the hottest months of the year.
12:24 just moved to Mesa from Mississippi. The housing prices are crazy here, even a 1-bedroom apartment in the shady part of town will set you back 1200 a month. Shotgunned my resume to several businesses in Tucson...got my fingers cross.
I love Tucson. My second home.
Tucson has a zoo, desert museum, caves near here you can tour, festivals, Tombstone near, Theatre. Lots of beautiful hiking areas.
I am interested in Tucson to be my new hometown when I retire and live here most of the year. I am coming from Ohio and love this place the way it is.
I too, am possibly looking at the Tucson area. I want the Palm Springs CA area, but probably can't afford it.
I was born an d and raised in Oregon, I spend Winters in Arizona now. I'm in Tucson right now. My first time here Yuma weather is better in the winter but Tucson has a lot more to do.
The Sonoran Dog is so good!!!
I live in Tucson beautiful I will live here my whole life 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Amtrak is profitable in California from San Diego to San Luis Opisbo, San Jose to Auburn,CA just Northeast of Sacramento & the San Francisco Bay Area to Bakersfield. It is also profitable in the Midwest between Chicago & St. Louis, Chicago & Milwaukee, Chicago & Detroit, St.Louis & Kansas City, between Eugene, OR & Vancouver,BC,Canada.
Tucson also has first class medical industry.
Brian Chapman. Just got my RN license in AZ. Moving to Tucson soon so, good to hear!
@@toliveischrist950 My daughter works at Banner and loves it!

Catalina is fantastic.
Been watching you for a while now and visiting in Dec. from IA. Love the videos...they are very informative. Someone said it was boring, I love boring most of the time and the fact that there is mainly I-10 to get around :) Not sure if moving toward more technology is a good thing; such as the silicon valley feel...We have great music venues not far from where I am. Would like to see some videos on music venues (interested in the metal scene if there is one). Also, descent coffee shops to chill at and street food...Might hit you up for more later, Thanks!
Other than me, people in Tucson do not really listen to Metal. I moved near Tucson about a decade ago from Omaha, NE, and the music scene was much better in Omaha, especially the concert venues.
Other than that, Tucson is awesome in all other ways. If I need good metal or rock, then I find it somehow.
Have you done anything on or could you talk about "Marana" area?
Thank you, Chris caliber
Marana is not as special as they want you to think it is. Oro Valley is Much MUCH better.
Is Arizona going to have water in 10 years?
Im from Michigan, moved to Tucson when I was 9 loved it ever since....i like it more than Phoenix...to much like L.A. California...yech!
This from a person who has NEVER lived in Tucson?
South Tucson is a small enclave of one square mile with 5600 residents in a metro area of about one-million, hardly the crime center of Arizona.
Does Tucson have monster wildfires? I can't take any more evacuations here in California.
Look up the Bighorn Fire and the Aspen Fire
Tucson and Phoenix connecting in future?
What light rail?
When you mention south Tucson do you mean the city of south or south Tucson in general?
If you know the difference - You've answered you own question
@@ziggymon2529 I know the difference, but I'm not the one making a video about a city I know nothing about.
MysticStylez520 Both are shitholes 😂 but neither the worst neighborhoods in town imo
I’ve been thinking... Because I hate Los Angeles now.
Thanks very much,
My thing is that U of A has the grad program i want to get into.
Noel Ebbert U of A campus is AMAZING!!!
Then who cares what he has to say just get in if you can and proceed
Pros: Outdoors are accessible, lower cost of living, more laid back, good food scene, close to higher elevations than Phoenix.
Cons: The roads, the lack of freeways, jobs pay less, and AC bills can go through the roof.
Moving to Tucson in the fall, really great info in all your videos, looks like we'll be looking hard for a home in Catalina Foothills and Oro Valley.
And yeah I hear you about the 18 wheelers worked in Utah on a fire engine which are pretty big themselves and over 40,000 pounds fully equipped. Well a 18 wheeler goes whizzing by us and we're already max speed (governed at 78) so must've been going 90-95 and the force of the wind bouncing off that 18 wheeler was making the engine shake! Felt like a space shuttle breaking up on re-entry lol
Fuck those 18 wheelers going anywhere above 65.
Hi Jeff again good video on Tucson. U won't believe this but it is true we have a high speed rail coming in to Missouri going from St Louis to Kansas City I think the cost is like 20 billion! You can google it for more info just hard to believe it's going to happen! 10 years down the road if not longer to complete. I-70 is nothing but 18 wheelers you would hate it!
You got a little off-topic here. Coming to Tucson in January. Looking forward to it.
Def remember your voice from crypto vids
Options international or national I am an out doors gal I feel better in warmer weather I am more happier as nowhere that has sunshine warm weather dry heat I will live in.
I hate rain snow cold weather and grey skies is not my bag .
Grant and Calderon. Thats the one.
Even though you went off the topic and forgot about talking about Tucson😂 , you are right about how innovative China is now. Americans need to wake up
Tucson was the shit,to many people now.( little phoenix )
is the area around University of Arizona safe
I pass everything on the I-10 on my motorcycle.
If you broker real estate let me know. I am moving from california to tucson later this year and want to ultimately buy. Thanks for informative vid
Could you talk about Payson, Az
Sorry dude but I had to thumbs down this video just like I did one of your previous ones. Started out ok then you went off on a way too long tangent about light rail, trains, China blah blah blah. I want to know more about the city I just moved to 3 weeks ago! Like it here so far but all I've gotten from you so far is that the employment and the economy are pretty bleak, stay out of South Tucson, and Catalina Foothills are nice. Gee, thanks.
I was planing to move to Tucson but is super hot 🥵 I preffer fresh places
Catalina mountains are expensive homes
Jeff we live in united states not america unless cemtral south north
Great stuff! Is there anyway someone can write you or call you for your AZ expertise? Let me know your price for the AZ knowledge. Thanks brotha!

The Us has a Fuckit list Jeff lol
Hahahah what if the food place tucson was nominated for was eegees
Where are the safe places to live in Tucson?
Oro Valley, Catalina Foothills, Dove Mountain...
Live anywhere north of river road and you will be good
@@LivinginArizona basically north of river lol
@@LivinginArizona those are the upper end areas where houses cost $250k and up but as long as your north of river you can get a house for $170k-200k
The environmental impact studies to do any high speed rail will keep them from ever happening.
Hello
Tucson has to many aggressive homeless people, go downtown and it's a bombardment of got any spare change . I need a fix of Heroin. I don't want to work just like to get drunk and bother people who work for a living. Lots of jobs here.shit loads of laziness. There are plenty of things to do here.i do not think TUCSON is boring although. Tucson has a great bus service suntan. The company on the bus can and is a pain in the ass .lots of drug addiction panhandling. U can have a lot of fun in the old pueblo.
Don’t forget Santa Rita Park on 22nd.Street which I call Bums Park.
Lol wow 1 hr vid of pros n cons.
HI
This yokel obviously lives in Phoenix metro. Has he lived in The Old Pueblo? If not his opinions are worthless.
Ehhh, I don't believe anyones opinions are worthless. Try not to be so bloated and ignorant. As I'm sure there is also someone else out there that would also call your opinion worthless, it's gotta stop at some point.

How's the VA hospital in Tucson?
We moved to Tucson a couple of years ago and one of our criteria was for a good VA hospital, so we did some research. Our VA experience here has been exceptional. My husband has Crohn's disease and a number of associated autoimmune disorders, so is in a number of different clinics and we spend more than enough time in the hospital!
We both love Tucson.
So if sports, news, concerts and trains are negatives for me Tucson sounds great. The comparison between overpriced yuppie food and healthy food is amusing and disturbing at the same time.
ATC program trim special needs kids school to work
I live in the Midwest and would like to move there. I am a Facility Engineer in a data center and would like to find a job in the same field.
You give so little information. Very sad.
The ghost town
What do you mean by property crime? Robbing your house, taking your lawn furniture, vandalizing?
Arizona has one of the highest grand theft auto rates in usa
Is better to have a weapon in your house if something happens
The crime is mostly petty crime
Maybe Tucson is against rail because it would hurt the economy. More people would rail to phx for cheaper flights. Phx for better shopping. Probably a few more issues too. Phx on the other hand would benefit. It would be great if phx had a speed rail to Vegas also.
As for Trump...he wants billions for infrastructure but remember who controls the funding...house of representatives. Not his fault.
Thank you Connie
5G is not great.
It’s the dessert, people are just hot angry and pissed!
How are the medical facilities? Are the doctors good at their professions? I’m asking a lot yeah I know LOL

Unscientific garbage. Amateurish analysis and endless off-subject rambling.
I have lived in Tucson since age four in 1959. I keep a smaller home in Phx - Tucson is far more livable.
Tucson Arizona. The mot unimpressive city I’ve ever been to. There’s a lot of stuff but also nothing all at the same time. I live in Phoenix so we’ve been a few times. But mostly it’s nothing. Military and that’s about it.
