The city proper has the worst roads in the state! You need off road suspension & ground clearance for the surface streets. 😞
I forgot to mention it but YES. I drive pizzas around on the west side and it’s awful. I’m surprised I haven’t destroyed my car already.
The saddest thing about tucson now is all the wackos from California.

Valley fever is a big problem for dogs. Fluconazole takes care of it pretty easily.
Fluconazole works well but has severe long term effects. It is really hard on the liver.
@@rickparker4047 true from what I can tell. But it is like an umbrella. If it’s raining, put it up. If you live with it up for no reason, your shoulder will break for no good reason

You forgot to mention that in June/July/August we get Monsoons. So as the temp hits 102 the rains can move in. You can go from 110 to 85 in a matter of minutes. Also, we even get snow in the winters on occasion.
Just at 1 year here. I like the monsoon when we get the thunderstorms but gosh I don’t like the humidity 😂 that’s when I get hot. But it’s a small price to pay for the beautiful landscapes and amazing winter and spring 🌵😎
Okay. Fair enough. None of things on the list are a deal breaker for me. I'm at 44 years in Tucson. Came here after getting out of the Army, went to school and never left. I've always found employment, friends, activities, a great music scene and the food diversity is world class. It's an ideal bicycle town. I commute about 1000 miles a year to work and to go downtown to play. Southern Arizona is great for hiking and backpacking. I finished the AzTrail in 2021 and just last weekend redid the first section of the trail starting at the Border. I'm retiring in a couple of years and will start traveling but will keep Tucson as a base.
The temps are a mixed blessing. When it gets hot (over 100 degrees) the town probably loses 25 percent of its population from the snowbirds leaving. I just sold my house in town that I owned for 30 years. It had an evap cooler the entire time. It worked great except for a couple months of the year when the humidity is high. (Above 25%.) My electric bill was around 95 bucks a month. I rarely ran the heater and just used an electric blanket to warm the bed before turning it off to go to sleep. Even with over a million folks in the Pima county metropolitan area, it still feels like a small town.

Thanks for watching. The cons are minimal here. I’ve had lots of outdoor adventures here from hiking to camping, and enjoying Mount Lemmon. I’ve seen more wildlife in a year here than I have I think in my whole life. I had some javelina staring me down while I was taking out the trash the other night.
The heat makes it near impossible to enjoy the outdoors during summer besides Mount Lemmon but I have a nice AC unit I’ll just keep on full blast until October!
Been a Tucsonan since 1976…Came here for college and then never left. It’s a friendly city, beautiful views, interesting plants & wildlife…I even love the sound of coyotes howling every night. We are retired now and head up to Flagstaff where it’s a gorgeous 70 and 80 degrees throughout the summer. We feel so fortunate that Tucson is our home.
It’s not a bad place at all. I’ve enjoyed a lot about the area. The heat can just be a pain but either than that I’ve had fun 🌵😎

Lol. For UA-cam search purposes “Top 5” is a more searchable term. There are other problems here. But for sake of time. I’m on month 7 and besides the heat my experience has been fine. I can see someone living here since birth or very young wanting out though.
I'm a retired native, and now live somewhere south of Tucson (not in Viagra Falls). Tarantulas are cute, not dangerous. All scorpions are poisonous, but the little bark scorpion is deadly. You didn't mention Gila Monsters, Coral Snakes, Bobcats, Mountain Lions, Coatimundis and the Colorado River Toad, to name a few. Then there is the native plant life, which is all heavily protected, that is mostly thorns from the invisible, to the barbed, up to two inches or longer. The lack of water is a problem which is never mentioned, except for the rainy season, which includes flash floods and torrential downpours which are barely mentioned . Out-of-staters have ruined the city, starting with Sabino Canyon, which used to be drivable. The streets are shot, crime is rampant, snowbirds are arrogant idiots and local businesses are dying. Tucson is a beautiful tourist destination, but except for those who can handle the heat without air conditioning, not a good place to live. Fifty years ago there were even good schools here...

I've been here since April 1960 and i never got bit by any of those creatures. I did have a run-in with a Teddy Bear cholla (the worst!) And barrel cactus.

I used to think Tucson was tough, until I've lived in West Phoenix Central City Phoenix last 3 years. Tough as in homeless drugs culture and crime it's all tied together
Yeah Tucson is only rough on the west side, south Tucson and some of the central areas depending on spot. Overall not too bad 🌵😎

The most retarded thing is there's only one highway which doesn't even go through the city and it's always under construction. It feels like the city was built with zero plans, it just sort of happened.
Thank God they legalized lane filtering.
I love Mt. Lemmon, gorgeous scenic drive but please use safety pullouts to let faster traffic through. I'll wave at you every time✌🙂
I lived here for 25 years and just saw my first tarantula. Sadly it was dead. Never saw a Gila monster or scorpions but we did have a few snakes in the backyard.
The heat is brutal but it's a dry heat - we don't sweat, we evaporate 😅
Thanks for watching. It’s been a good year so far aside from that hot sun. Seen and done a lot. My wife isn’t a huge fan of the summers so we’ll see how long our Tucson story lasts 😂

That so funny. Out of all the animals you listed, you're more afraid of the most harmless one. 😂 Tarantula are practically harmless. Rattlesnakes would rather leave you alone and vice versa. A pack of Javelina will attack your dogs, your children and you. No f's given.

True. There a 76 at Stone and Oracle and at night when I would pass it there were SO many shady folks. (And all the bus stops as well)
The economy sucks. I encouraged my kids to go elsewhere after college. The heat is unbearable. If you are retired with a decent pension and maintain the "snowbird" life, it isn't bad. Young people trying to make it here will have very limited opportunities to make any decent money. Culture is great, but I'm not sure that newcomers would get any real exposure to it.
I can handle the heat and enjoy the scenery. But the job scene Im finding is not good.
@travelswithtravis0117 I did, too, in my younger years. The first two cars I had didn't have AC. It didn't bother me. I guess it's an age thing. The heat does put a damper on enjoying the outdoors in and around Tucson though
@travelswithtravis0117 Yeah, you can't really make any real money here. I think my generation was the last to carve out a nice little slice for our family's. Been here since 1984 it was truly a small town back then. Different vibe altogether

Bisbee is for sure on the visit list. Unfortunately if you’re like me and want to live among the Saguaro you just have to put up with the summers!

Bisbee is great. I've was married there once and had two honeymoons in Bisbee.
As a Tucson native, lived on far east side where all desert. Tarantulas aren't as bad as made to be. We'd catch/pet all the time as kids, they bite only when feel threatened really. I really miss Tucson and hope to return only 6 years ago moving to Florida as felt the need to experience places other than Arizona as never visiting past Missouri where relatives lived.
Well I hope you find your way back! I’m terrified of large spiders. Have seen a few around of course but at a distance. I’d hold snakes (non venomous) before I’d ever touch a tarantula 😅

The roads suck. As far as crime it's spotty. One street will be fine and the next one will be ghetto. The heat isn't that bad. The number of 105 plus days is nowhere near as bad as the hell 100 miles north. The dirty pueblo has its issues but it's a nice place. I'm born and bred in the dirty T. Lived in NC for a year and lived in that hell up north for ten. In my opinion the better economy isn't worth it. The makers of South Park are 100% right about Scottsdale being the worst place on earth.
Yeah the roads are pretty bad and I forgot to mention it. I pretty much avoid west and central Tucson. I conduct my business either in the Cathills oro valle. Not a bad place to live tho if you have a good AC to get you through summer. Rest of the year is perfect weather 👍🏻
Valley Fever. Just don't breathe the dusty air. I've known 2 people who had it. One pretty much shook it off and the other one had lung surgery. I'm one of those Tucsonans who says, 90 degrees? Bring it!

Traffic can suck but PHX is worse! Haven’t experienced a dust storm yet tho.
What are you even talking about - traffic is negligible in Tucson since there are so many ways to get anywhere due to the block grid system. What place doesn't have wind at time? And winters are incredibly mild. Ok, things will get dusty I'll give you that one.
@@TheMachinePUA Perhaps traffic can be a nuisance in the city area, but here in the CatHills where I am at it isn't too bad, especially on the weekends.
I have heard some complaints about winters here, but that is surprising to me. A lot of people I have talked to left New England or somewhere north to be here. One guy was straight up upset it got cold at all. All things considered I have no issue with a 40-50 degree day here. I will take that over 100.

Very long story. Got really really screwed over by ex employer which is main reason. Some smaller reasons include lack of resources and entertainment in Roswell. It just came time to move on

I appreciate it! My dream was to open an 80s theme alien arcade on Main. But the capital needed to get that off the ground is more then I can afford lol. But it was pretty bad what happened. I created lots of alien things and did creative photography around town and sold it on the street before we left. It did very well. I’m thinking about coming back for the next festival to sell. I've been living in Tucson over 18 years, and work outside. I have NEVER seen a tarantula. I have seen only one scorpion (some are almost transparent, but they are the non-poisonous ones). Javelina don't see well. They sense movement, so if you stay still they will ignore you.
I’ve seen about 5-6 tarantulas but it was mostly during monsoon. Seen a group of Javelina once. But I do want to take a black light and go search for some scorpions! 😎
Tarantulas come out right before the rain. Go hiking when a storm is brewing.
Wolf spiders, tons of black widows mountain lions raccoons ringtail cats and killer bees to add haha
You're talking about LAST year, every year is different. The basic rule is 3 months of hot for 9 months of not hot.
Everything I mentioned is based off talking to locals or my experience over the summer. I’m officially at one year in Tucson and I realize things can be different each year.
I appreciate your honest review. I was based in AZ while in the military for a few years and I miss the scenery. Tucson is a nice city.

Limited transit options. The Light Rail is one line. The bus system is sad.
Riding a bike at night is dangerous with the condition of the roads and the Old Pueblo is a Dark Sky community.
Poverty is the biggest issue. Wages are lower than the National average. So many are just getting by.
A unique and dynamic place that does have issues like any other Metro.
All correct. I’m in the job market and damn it sucks. And even with my excellent skills and experience I’m still getting rejection email after rejection email. And some of these are basic positions. I do pizza delivery on the west side and besides the roads, at night it becomes sketchy. I’ve seen public defecation, massive police presence, people fighting, and because it’s dark and people don’t obey street signs it’s not uncommon for me to near miss hitting people. I’m transferring up to Oro Valley where none of this exists ✌🏻
@@travelswithtravis0117 Tucson sucks in that regard. I returned here after I retired from the military and the wage difference is really disgusting. I hold a graduate degree in Cybersecurity. I have two decades plus worth of experience in security operations, both digital and physical. When I retired I wanted to get away from the State and Federal game and go into something local in the private sector.
The problem is, that my skill set rates in the $60-80 an hour range for the work involved. Local companies in Tucson want to pay a quarter of that for the same expertise and workload. Which is why I simply ended up working for Raytheon in the end. They're at least competitive with pay and benefits. Shame though. Wanted to do something smaller and less related to the MIC.
Living in the phx area for 20 years, I moved to Elgin wine country two years ago and haven’t looked back 😊

You’re not wrong on that. Wages aren’t the best here and I don’t want to live in Phoenix where economic opportunity is better. Hopefully it improves here in the future.
