Long time lurker of your channel. Thoroughly enjoyed the episode. Samsara is a complex word (like a lot of Sanskrit words) meaning the wheel of life, flow of life, world or even family. Samsara with Jasmine & Sandalwood reminds me of the offering to hindu gods in a temple where you would have sandalwood paste & jasmine garlands. You would also use sandalwood paste to draw religious symbols for the gods. It also reminds me of aunties during festivities, while growing up in India, with their jasmine garlands and sandalwood bindis :)

Finally ❤❤❤ Bois des Iles may be my absolute favorite perfume. I love learning that others share my perfume eccentricities such as not wanting to finish a bottle. 😅
So happy Egoiste made the cut. Still probably my favourite sandalwood to wear on its own. Santal Majuscule would likely take the crown for layering. 😉 So many sandalwood centric scents I've yet to try. A great video!
The very first time that I smelled Neela Vermeire's Ashoka it was the sandalwood that came straight through and captivated me. I commented on that and it was pointed out to me that it is fig dominant to begin, but I just couldn't help it, I locked on to the sandalwood. My favourite sandalwood of all time was Crabtree and Evelyn's Mysore Sandalwood. I wish I still had some. I think that Ashoka latched onto a memory of that for me. Incidentally I was incredibly lucky to meet Neela and she is funny and friendly and just really lovely.
Samsara is a glorious perfum I am so lucky to have have difrent formulas from the first years and I love Samsara think is one perfums that I have a romantic expirence everything time I smell it. Other that in my skin ends in a so beautiful and come Sandalwood is Luxe Volupte from Franchesca Bianchi and Honor 43 I can say end in ny skin like the most cream and sensual Sandalwood this one is new for me but after ten days of using it I can say that has a remarkable Sandalwood note. And the last one that I have that I can appreciate that glorious Sandalwood is Nüwa.
What a great video, even for a self-proclaimed sandalwood hater (in my own defense, it may be the screechy industrial version you get in so many newer perfumes)!!! I just went back in time, and watched your "Classic Fragrances - the '70s" you had done w/ Max during the lockdown, and boy do I LOVE that video. As a child of the 70s, that video is gold to me, with so many great masterpieces. Sheer nostalgia, that review will stand the test of time. 🙏❤🙏
Lovely topic and wonderful list! I love sandalwood! A very affordable sandalwood is H&M Santalum, made by Olivier Pescheux. I have the oil version. Sadly discontinued but it's a heavenly creamy Australian sandalwood and with a fruity touch. I layer that sometimes with Sandal. A very strong sandalwood from Oudh Al Anfar Perfumes London. I think it's synthetic because it's very low priced. And yes, Chanel Egoiste is beautiful and a very important perfume in my life. Greetz from Holland 🌹
About discontinuations or on the contrary keeping up with the heritage of houses, Mathilde Laurent has said that Cartier is working on the reissue of nearly all classics, albeit in similar packaging, which is excellent news. My current favorite sandalwood fragrance is Serge Lutens Santal Majescule. That fragrance replaced D.S & Durga Radio Bombay as my sandalwood holy grail. Ive tried Trayee and thought it was pretty good. Love its bottle design too. I have Chanel Egoiste but am STILL trying to learn to like it after all these years. Its great sandalwood, but overall the fragrance accords hit my nose like a dry ash tray.
Sandalwood has not worked on my skin at all,however, I do own and adore Bois de Iles ..😬🤷🏻♀️. Thank you, I am slowly working through your channel and goodness; you do have some funny and fun members ; I love it.🧡🙋🏻♀️🇦🇺

Ah, yesss! Santal Blanc made the list. I rarely hear anyone talking about it, but it is oh so elegant and gentle. Was one of my first non-designer frag purchases while on a business trip in Paris. Regardless of the sentimental value, still a favourite. I find it very re-balancing to spray before sleep.
Thank you so much for this list on a favorite note. A favorite, 10, Corso Como, the woody drydown is so lovely although not only santal. Surprisingly, another favorite with this note is older Calèche extrait, I smell a lot of sandalwood in it.
Fresh melone, sandalwood, amber and Tetramethylacetyloctahydronaphthaline plus tuberosa. The kind of tuberosa from carthusia. The Bohemian Monk. This kind of combination could create sparkling emotions. By the way, Samsara equals Samantabhadri, the female Buddha. Thank you for your great time 🙏🏿❤️
I'm not sure if Santal Blush has been reformulated, but I fear it has. I loved it when I smelled it in the clear bottle years ago and recently smelled the one in the dark bottle and found it horrid. Loved the video, Mr. P!

Thanks for saying exactly what I've been smelling. I dislike the "spikey" type of sandalwood. I've been describing it as a sharp, almost musky/musty odor. I've tried a few sandalwoods where its more of a textural experience, and enjoy them. I will sample some of these on the list and expand my nose to more sandalwood.
I feel like very underrated and maybe unknown yet beautiful sandalwood is Santal Carmin from Atelier Cologne . I think it’s one of my favourites- possibly Samsara’s child .

Floris Santal - didn't like it when I first got the sample. Tried it again yesterday and loved it (though not certain how much Sandalwood it actually has in it, it's a very nice fragrance)

Hi! My top 3 sandalwood compositions: 1. Santal Sultan by Ensar Oud 2. Santal Galore by Areej le Dore 3. Santal Segar by katana Parfum I can see none of these made your list 😅...all of them have real Mysore sandalwood, top one contains 40 years old vintage sandalwood oil. Really worth trying...love your videos, big fan....
I found Serge Lutens Santal de Mysore very impressive, but you're probably familiar with that one. Another great one, though entirely different is Ten Fifteen by Room 1015. Soft, powdery, elegant sandalwood. Another one that is highly regarded in the fragrance community is 24 Rue de l'Université YSL. Very expensive but supposedly worth it!
I am not too good at recogniz vćing sandalwood in a composition unless it is very obvious. I remember smelling some indian Sandalo Mysore in a empty bottle of essential oil, AMAZING!!!
Every time I wear hardcore sandalwood I can’t smell it at all. Totally anosmic to it. But in college I preferred that incense over the patchouli ones for covering up the scent of….okay. Now I know why.
I was hoping you would mention 24 rue de l'Université by YSL. The best sandalwood I've smelled to date. Altho I may grab Santal de Mysore by Serge Lutens at some point, albeit I've never smelled it, just did a LOT of looking into to it lol... Thank you for your content
Yes @Persolaise I am amazed too that I never heard mentioning “24 rue de l’Université ». You do not seem to be huge fan of YSL Le Vestiaire des Parfums. I do not remember you talk it about . I am too poor to ever afford a Tom Ford fragrance, but many years ago I sampled Santal Blush at Bloomingdales, and thought this is just like Bvlgari Omnia. They are virtually identical to my primitive nose. And doesn't Bvlgari work with quite distinguished perfumers too? Thanks.
Bois des Isle was brought back in limited edition in the 80's when Bloomingdale's had a Fete Francaise and turned the entire store into a Paris wonderland.... Chanel brought into NYC exclusive to Bloomies, a limited edition parfume in a silver case..Bois des Isle.....love at first whiff ❤....
"Vanille Galante" & "un jardin après la mousson" are already gone (rthat's why I bought my favourite "jardin", "un jardin après la mousson" before I had thought to). I didn't know about "brin de réglisse & "eau de narcisse bleu"... sad :(

1. Santal Sultan by Ensar Oud
2. Santal Galore by Areej le Dore
3. Santal Segar by katana Parfum
I can see none of these made your list 😅...all of them have real Mysore sandalwood, top one contains 40 years old vintage sandalwood oil. Really worth trying...love your videos, big fan....

I found Serge Lutens Santal de Mysore very impressive, but you're probably familiar with that one. Another great one, though entirely different is Ten Fifteen by Room 1015. Soft, powdery, elegant sandalwood. Another one that is highly regarded in the fragrance community is 24 Rue de l'Université YSL. Very expensive but supposedly worth it!

Le Labo 15ml in 2011 was $58. It is now $99 for that same size. Byredo's Sellier is very similar to S33 although it's more leathery.

Not a great fan of sandalwood but I do have one from Juliette Has A Gun. It's called Sunny Side Up and it is indeed sunny, joyful and relaxing.

I am not too good at recogniz vćing sandalwood in a composition unless it is very obvious.
I remember smelling some indian Sandalo Mysore in a empty bottle of essential oil, AMAZING!!!
The oil really is very special.

Every time I wear hardcore sandalwood I can’t smell it at all. Totally anosmic to it. But in college I preferred that incense over the patchouli ones for covering up the scent of….okay. Now I know why.

I was hoping you would mention 24 rue de l'Université by YSL. The best sandalwood I've smelled to date. Altho I may grab Santal de Mysore by Serge Lutens at some point, albeit I've never smelled it, just did a LOT of looking into to it lol... Thank you for your content

Yes @Persolaise I am amazed too that I never heard mentioning “24 rue de l’Université ». You do not seem to be huge fan of YSL Le Vestiaire des Parfums. I do not remember you talk it about . However the collection Le Vestiaire des Parfums - Editions Couture (the black bottle one ) is really nice. I own 6 Place Saint Sulpice too

I am too poor to ever afford a Tom Ford fragrance, but many years ago I sampled Santal Blush at Bloomingdales, and thought this is just like Bvlgari Omnia. They are virtually identical to my primitive nose. And doesn't Bvlgari work with quite distinguished perfumers too? Thanks.

Bois des Isle was brought back in limited edition in the 80's when Bloomingdale's had a Fete Francaise and turned the entire store into a Paris wonderland.... Chanel brought into NYC exclusive to Bloomies, a limited edition parfume in a silver case..Bois des Isle.....love at first whiff ❤....

"Vanille Galante" & "un jardin après la mousson" are already gone (rthat's why I bought my favourite "jardin", "un jardin après la mousson" before I had thought to). I didn't know about "brin de réglisse & "eau de narcisse bleu"... sad :(

@@Persolaise I haven’t yet! Was hoping you might have come across them. I’ve heard they’re similar but progress much faster so to speak, that is, they present their ideas much more quickly, though those ideas are still recognisably Samsara, so to speak.
What about Gentiane Blanche, does anybody know? Speaking about Hermes discontinuing fragrances, thank you for letting us know. Mousson is a beauty and I should probably buy backup bottle. And I love Santal Massoia.

I know of Lush (but I really don't like their bottle design) and Voyages Imaginaries (created by a woman perfumer who used to work together with Anik Goutal, I can't remember her name right now 🤔).

Have you ever tried Santal austral by matiere premiere ? I’m getting the 3 scent set that they sell and am getting Falcon leather,radical rose (don’t like floral fragrance but am challenging myself) and am not sure about the 3rd smell…Santal austral or encens suave 🤔
