I bought the Serge Lutens discovery set, smelled Santal Majascule, and now I’m obsessed with sandalwood.
Been waiting for this one. I never realized how much I love sandalwood until I realized I was gravitating towards fragrances with a prominent sandalwood note. I especially love it paired with vanilla. 🤤
It's the best combo!! 🙌🏼
You make me want to buy literally every perfume you describe.
You described Guidance perfectly. My goodness, it’s just stunning and quickly became a huge favorite. Worth every penny.
It's a special one! 🤍
That sillage from Amouage Guidance is truly breathtaking
Right?!
Do you consider this fragrance a safe blind buy for sandalwood-lover?
@@anik2451 I absolutely think it is! It is a mass pleasing scent to me. The bad reviews on Fragrantica baffles me.
Thank you you described guidance so well!! I struggled to pin point what I was smelling but I knew I liked it 😅
Spot on description of Guidance! Such a stunning fragrance! Lots of love from Germany 🥰
You are truly superb at describing fragrances! Love your enthusiasm! Thank you Anne.
Thank you so much!! 🙏🏼🤍
THIS is the video I was looking for so long! ❤
Thank you ❤
Loved this videos! So many of my favs. The way you described Guidance was spot on! I actually picked up Santal Vanille during this Sephora sale 😍
Thank you!! Ahhh I'm excited for you!!
Love this list! Sandalwood is one of my favorite notes as well.
Thank you!
Boucheron’s Santal de Kandy was a sandalwood fragrance I had an instant reaction to and had to buy immediately. It has a cozy and slightly creamy nuance…but I never hear anyone talk about it 🤷🏼♀️ Totally agree about Gris Charnel! ❤
I’ve seen Guidance all over but you make me want to try it asap! Ordering my sample now. Love the OG Gris Charnel!
so curious what you'll think!
I recently purchased Santal Vanille and before that I purchased Apres from Ellis Brooklyn based off of your reviews because I was interested in trying woody fragrances. I'm totally in love with them and can see Santal Vanille becoming a signature scent for me! I'm so glad I tried them out. Thanks for your great descriptions!
Oooohhh now I love me a good sandalwood! I actually want to add more into my collection so very excited for these picks!
Yesss bring in more sandalwood! 🙌🏼😂🤍
Great list! I love the This is Her from Zadig & Voltaire, sandalwood with sweet whipped cream
Thank you!
I love the pink color on the Guidence bottle, Very interesting in smelling it now.
the packaging is gorgeous!
I adore Gris charnel OG and Santal Gray. Book- is my favorite of the Book line, I love the musky note
You are my favorite reviewer. I just adore how you explain things I almost binge watch you lol. Excited to try guidance. Ordered a sample :) I wear santal 33 but I’m craving a creamier s situation.
Seven virtues finally listened and made the travel a spray instead of roller ball!!
Thanks for the list Anne! Give a me more sandalwood fragrances to check out!❤
Love your descriptions! Great video!😊❤
Thanks so much! 😊
I also find the vanilla in the dry down of Gris Charnel Extrait incredibly addictive. ❤️
that was the note that convinced me I "needed" the extrait 😉
Your love for sandalwood is so apprarent and here I am as someone who doesn't vibe with sandalwood that much still watching the whole thing. I am hoping that gris charnel works for me. I also have the extrait and we will have to wait and see on both of them as I love tea and fig notes so fingers crossed.
awe thank you! 🤍
I freaking love guidance!!
I’m getting Sunny Side Up in the mail today! Can’t wait 💃🏻
😍😍😍
i just ordered Santal Vanille during the Sephora sale. I'm super excited
😍😍 I'm so excited for you! I hope you love it 🥹
I agree on GC and GCE- I could have both. I find the Extrait even sweeter than the OG in the dry down- yet the opening is more opulent and spicy .. so beautiful 🖤
yesss I love their spin on the Extrait!
Intrigued to check out Guidance! Personally my top pick in this category is TF Santal Blush, the formulation in the original clear bottle.
Anne Lauren Queens and Monsters smell so good I love the Sandalwood I can't stop smelling my self when I put it on 😊
It's so underrated!!
Really love G Water & Gris Charnel. Big loves. Love Guidance too. I noticed how nice the pear was, but I gotta pay more attention to the sandalwood next time.
That pear melds so beautifully into the sandalwood! 🤍
Brilliant video!
Definitely a great list! Missing Perris santal du pacifique for me but still a great list!
Hi Anne, may you kindly review the Henry Rose line? Your candor is refreshing ❤
Love and own both versions of Gris Charnel, just like you do. 😁. I’ve tested Guidance, and although people had commented that this is easier to wear compared to the other Amouages, and although it is beautiful, it was not for me. My decant is pretty substantial so I will revisit and try again in the future, I might change my mind. 🥰
Totally understand! 🤍
Ive been wearing a sample of Gris Charnel and I've fallen in love.
What a great and complete Sandalwood list ❤❤❤ I love sandalwood but it has to be sweet!! I fell in love with a bottle of Armani prive Santal Dan Sha and I purchase a Decant and not for me unfortunately but the bottle is gorgeous. I am obsessed with guidance definitely top 2 from the house. IMO 🥰
Thanks babe!! I wish that Santal Dan Sha was 100% me as well, those bottles are some of my favorites ;)
And I agree! Guidance and Sunshine Woman are my top 2 personal favorites! 🤍
I think I've commented this on a few of your videos because I'm obsessed, but Santal Carmin by Atelier Cologne is another of my fave sandalwood fragrances! Has that Baccart-y vibe from the saffron.
I've loved several of your sandalwood recommendations, including Gris Charnel, Queens & Monsters, and Sunny Side Up. Thanks for showing me that sandalwood doesn't always smell like pickles like when I first tried Santal 33. 😆
I'm glad I could introduce some gems!
Above and beyond any other creator, your taste is sheer perfection- at least to my nose:) We have similar tastes in notes for sure, so I can pretty much bet on ANYTHING you recommend. Just bought Santal Vanille. LOVE. I would blind buy an Anne recommendation any day ❤️
I agree 100% with you on the Guidance. A total beast mode perfume with a strong sandalwood bomb base. When I tested it I thought the Santal 33 I tested a day or so earlier had remained, or resurfaced on my skin. It is a beautiful scent - but for me, one tiny spray is all I can take. And your Santal 33 description is so spot on. It reminds me of summer hikes on a sweltering day here in the west coast of Canada in a cedar forest. ❤ BTW I am wearing the new Kayali Yum Pistachio today, and I swear it has that sandalwood dry down similar to Guidance. ❤
Thank you! Oh how interesting! My nose doesn't pick up the similarity, but Yum Pistachio Gelato has slowly been growing on me, it's currently a like and I keep going back to sniff it from the bottle haha 🥰
@@AnneLauren Not a sandalwood bomb. More subtle and it takes a while.
I love sandalwood and own both Santal 33 and Gris Charnel. Milky Musk I loved on the first spray but after some time it was too cloying and I couldn't stand it. Now I need to try all your other recommendations especially Guidance and Santal Vanille ❤ (I immediately bought Santal Vanille sample). Other sandalwood I own and love are Radio Bombay and Piano Santal
I hope you enjoy Santal Vanille!
Love Amouge Guidance! Everything that Quentin Bisch produces is a masterpiece.
He's so gifted!
I love santal vanille also but I have to be in the mood for it. It’s really well blended. Santal 33 I am still testing. It was not what I expected at first but on skin it’s interesting. I like it. I may be with you on it though, I’d probably prefer smelling it on someone else.
totally understand!
Hey Anne! So happy to see another video from you. I got Santal Vanille because of your reviews and at first at first all I got was sandalwood and pepper but the more it sat, my nose started to really pick up on the vanilla and coconut. Really love it now, it’s so great to layer on with very gourmand scents to help ground them. Sadly, I’m one of the ones who can’t pick up the iso-e-super, I blind bought sunny side up and had to declutter it lol. Have you tried IF by Frapin? It’s compared to Gris Charnel on fragrantica and it’s cheaper at discounters so I wanted to get your take on it 😊
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it now! I haven't tried that one because I don't like the bottles lol 😅
@@AnneLauren LOL 😂 that’s fair.
Santal 33 is my signature scent I have loved it for years! It’s one that I will never get sick of and I always get compliments. It doesn’t smell too masculine on me and I love how dry it is. I think I want to try Gris charnel.
Good ones in here. I had a funny testing experience with Guidance. The opening almost blew it for me but they dry down is gorgeous. 😉❤️
Is it fbw for you or not quite? 😜
@@AnneLauren I kept the sample card and put it in my backpack and you can still smell it two weeks later!! The dry down is so pretty…even my super picky mom liked it. The opening was very sharp and headache inducing (which never happens). So at that price….I’ll wait for a good sale then revisit. In the meantime, I’ll try spritzing one more time. 😍
This is such an incredible and thorough sandalwood list.
I have recently been loving Leather by Malin + Goetz due to how easy it is to throw on and would love your thoughts! You are so good at describing scents and would love your take ☺️
Thank you!! The combo of leather, violet, lily of the valley, and cloves scare me so I haven't tried that one haha
@@AnneLauren I don’t get much of the top or middle notes. It’s quite enjoyable. It’s more of a soft suede and sandalwood for me than anything else really. Thank you for your response though ☺️
@@VeroVPham If you think I'd like it I'll definitely sample it!!
Love sandalwood fragrances most❤ GW, Gris charnel and Santal Austral (love the scent bubble) are my most worn.
Too bad Henry Rose and 7 virtues are not available in the Netherlands for shipping. I Just feel like I would totally love them.
:( that's so unfortunate!
I’m lovin queens and monsters I’m on my 2nd bottle
Great video 😍
Thank you!
Yeah, Guidance is getting some all over the place comparisons lol. But...I LOVE HER!!!! I get a lot of creaminess from the sandalwood and incense, rose, saffron and fruity notes.
You definitely pick up some of those other notes more than I do! 🤍 But yesss we love her 😘😘
Yesss Santal Vanille ❤️
the best!!
For me, Piano santal! 🥰
Bon parfumeur: 402! Und Santal Complet!!
Den Guidance muss ich unbedingt testen. Danke and greetings from Germany ☺️
I’m curious what you’ll think!
Le labo Santal 33 is the only perfume my husband would wear and also loves on me and we had to buy the whole collection even we got the version of the hotel collection for the house. Lol
Love the list!!! Wondering your thoughts on the newish' Armani Prive Santal Dan Sha. I've heard it described as a female version of Santal 33. I haven't smelled it yet but it's on my list.
I should've waited till' the end, lol. Thanks for your thoughts on it 🤗
Thank you! It's definitely related to Santal 33, but not as harsh or aromatic. This is a more light, fresh take on the DNA. It has a bergamot note that definitely adds to the fresh quality, and it has bit of a cooling vibe in the opening, but gets warmer as it dries down. Dry, woody sandalwood and cedar, cardamom, elemi, and violet. I'd describe it as perfectly unisex :)
Those are all kinds dill pickles to me, well Santal 33, Santal Vanille and Book. I like those creamy ones and I have Santal Piano, Loewe 001 Woman, Santal Austral (which doesn't smell like sandalwood but it's savory in a good way. And someday I would like to get Santal Basmati..
I really enjoyed watching your video 🤩
Thank you 🤗
@@AnneLauren Anna make most worn perfumes of the month video
Have you tried Bal D’Afrique? I have also Gipsy Water but BD has my heart.
Yes I rave about it all the time!
Amazing video and recommendations, as always. My favourite sandalwood is Oh La La from Teo Cabanel. Have you tried that one?
Thank you! I wasn't a fan of it, but I'm glad it was a hit for you! 🤍
I love Oh La La, one of my all time faves!
My favorite sandalwood is Atelier Cologne's Santal Carmin ( or the similar but ridiculously expensive Atelier Versace's Santa Boisé if I had money ) I love that interpretation. Have you tried them ? Greetings from Spain !
That's a nice one! To me, it smells like crisp, clean paper with sweet saffron. So I was wanting more out of it, but I can see why people like it :)
Mmmm. I love so many of these. Haven’t smelled Guidance yet. Hard to get in Canada still I think. You inspired me to wear Santal Vanille to bed lol. I find it so grounding. I often wear it to sleep. 😴
It is a very grounding scent! 🤍
I find Gris Charnel masculine when I wear it despite how beautiful and feminine it’s always described. I just got Ex Nihilo’s Santal Calling and find it lovely. I wonder what your take would be!
I definitely wouldn't describe it as feminine either .. unisex, but not for people who prefer their feminine fragrances! Santal Calling smells like sandalwood baby powder to me 😩 Bummed but I'm glad it was a hit for you! 🤍
I love sandalwood. I own milky musk (my favorite), Gris Charnel, Santal Vanille, and Book. I've either already sampled all the others or have them on my sample wishlist. I'm curious if you smelled and have opinions on any of the below fragrances. They are all on my sample wishlist and I would love to narrow it down
Sandalwood Temple
White Sandalwood - Goldfield
Santal Blanc - Van Cleef
Santal Blanc - Serge Lutens
Santal Pao Rosa - Guerlain
Santal Blond - Atelier Materi
She was an anomaly - etat libre
Hanami - Phlur
Tam Dao - Diptyque
I'd be happy to give you my thoughts!
- Sana Jardin Sandalwood Temple (a simple fragrance. Powdery, creamy, buttery, sandalwood, vanilla. It also has a slight bit of a coconut vibe. That’s it. There’s beauty in its simplicity, this would also be great for layering. It’s soft and chic, calming. Cozy, understated. The vanilla note is soft and addicting, it keeps drawing me in. If the scent has a texture it would be cashmere. This is amazing for a your skin but better scent. Appropriate if you’re sensitive to fragrances, work in healthcare. Don’t expect anything wow factor or crazy because it is a simpler fragrance but it’s lovely. The reason I’m not pulling the trigger on a bottle is that I do detect a hint of that buttery quality which isn't for me.)
- Goldfield & Banks White Sandalwood (smells mature. Powdery. Rose, sandalwood, thyme)
- Van Cleef & Arpels Santal Blanc (nice! But not personally into the fig, which is a dominant note. Fig, sandalwood, musk. Powdery, soft. Doesn’t really project.)
- Guerlain Santal Pao Rosa (very woody. I get a spicy dark rose even though it's not listed. Tinyy touch of fig)
- Atelier Materi Santal Blond (I do smell a little resemblance to TF Santal Blush but I like this better, not so kitchen spice like. A dry, creamy sandalwood with hinoki bourbon and green cardamom. Not totally digging the spicy and deep dark aspect of the bourbon. Also detect a little bit of a dill smell. Unisex leaning a little masculine. It’s okay.)
- Diptyque Tam Dao EDT (realistic, natural wood. Dry sandalwood, cedar, rosewood, cypress, spices. I want a smidge of vanilla or something. Too linear and simple for me.)
These are of course my own opinions and tastes, you may have a different experience, but I hope it helped a little :)
I don’t know if you tried Santal Austral from Matière Première, it’s beautiful 😍
I have! I unfortunately don't get what everyone else seems to be getting from that fragrance. To my nose, it's sharp, and has this fizzy, piercing quality to it. It also smells sour when I put my nose up to my skin. I don’t experience creamy, amazing sandalwood like others. Such a bummer 😩😩 but I'm glad it was a hit for you!
Hi! I loved this video because I love sandalwood ans have some of your list, like Guidance and Gris Charnel. Do you know Sandalwood Temple by Sana Jardin? I would like to know your thoughts about it. Greetings from Spain.
❤❤❤❤❤guidance yummm is my favorite
Have you tried YSL Rue 24? It's a good one!
Hey, Anne! Have you tried leather by Malin + Goetz?
What did you think of scent of woods sandalwood in oak? Loved first sniff but need larger decant to do true wear test.
I like it, but I’ve noticed the note combo of sugar and herbal notes don’t agree with me. It’s not too loud, but that sugar/sage combo holds me back from loving it.
Thomas Demonaco RAW GOLD
Ooh!!! Love sandalwood. Meaning to film mine for like a year. 😂
😆 we're ready for it! 😘
Funny enough my nose either developed in a couple of months so quickly or I had a bad day - I did not like Santal 33 at first and the second time I tried it, it was an alluring experience. Not love at first sniff :)
I am currently loving Piano Santal since it feels so cozy wearing it :)
I came for a solid Guidance review and yours is excellent...but I stayed for the Sunny side up. Why did your description of Sunny side up make me so emo? I love it so much and it's highly underrated. Thank you.
Milky Musk is just heaven-sent. It’s so underrated!
yess!!
Have you tried Sospiro bel canto?? Thoughts?
I need Guidance in my life!! Going based on your review 😊
so worth a sample!! xx
My two favorite sandalwood fragrances are Kilian sacred wood and Santal Noble Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier(this one is more masculine than sacred wood but I love it so much). Have you tried these and do you like them?
Sacred Wood is amazing!
I was literally looking for a video about Sandalwood fragrances earlier this week!! 😍 definitely going to order samples of Amouage Guidance and Byredo G water.
Would love to get your opinion on Memo’s new release Sherwood! It’s described as a creamy sandalwood scent. 💓
perfect!! 😘 I hope you like them! And of course! To me, Sherwood smells like a nutty, creamy sandalwood and oak even though nuts aren’t listed. Maybe it’s the carrot seeds? So that part wasn't for me. I smell zero black currant personally. The florals are very quiet and well blended. Hope that helps a little bit :)
Ahhh thanks so much 🥹🫶🏼 that sounds so yummy! Gourmandy almost? Definitely have to go get my nose on it! Thanks again girl!!
@@ci2091 It doesn't smell gourmand to me, but maybe you'll have a different interpretation and smell a bit of that? To me, it doesn't have an edible or slightly sweet factor to it. It's dry, earthy, yet creamy and nutty. 🤍🤍
OH yes yes that makes total sense. Thanks again Anne 🫶🏼☺️
Hi Anne, what are your thoughts are on Molecule 04 from Escentric Molecules?
now that's one I haven't tried 🙈 I like more complexity than one note fragrances so that's why I haven't been interested in that one!
Try Santal Basmati from affinessence
I have a candle from Kohls or Marshall's that's Sandalwood Myrrh with hints of musk infused oak.. OMG I wish I could find a perfume like it, with a little vanilla to make it feminine.
sounds good 😍
Okkk I have 7 /10 !Probably I’m
a sandalwood fanatic but mostly Anne fanatic ❤❤❤
Awe! 🥹🥰
My current favorite is YSL-24 RUE DE L'UNIVERSITE - LE VESTIAIRE DES PARFUMS, hope you get a chance to check it out
Just blind bought Guidance and Hundred Silent ways.. definitely a psychotic moment i just had lol but most of my fragrances are blind buys. If all else fails… MERCARI!
Weirdly, I've fallen for Serge Lutens's Chergui. Sure, there are lotsa other notes but this scent gets no props for being magical, like some others do. Layering it with Orientica's Amber Rouge is lovely.
Anna, I usually like your recommendations and have bought some based on that. Having said that, Iris Malakhan was a huge miss for me. It smells like bad medicine on me. 🙈🙈🙈
That's why I always mention that it's very polarizing!
What are your thoughts on Santal Complet from Fragrance Du Bois in comparison to this list? ...personally I love the scent profile but find it's so faint I can barely smell it.
What are your thoughts on Sana Jardins Sandalwood Temple?
Greetings from Germany!
Unfortunately, not all of the brands are available here🤷🏼♀️
I love your videos!
Thank you! ❤️
what are your thoughts on Chanel Bois Des Iles?
I’m definitely not as cool as you- couldn’t take the edge to Santal Vanille! I still have a notebook nearby when I watch your videos though! Now you make me want to try Guidance- love me a creamy scent!
Omg! 😆🤍 Totally understand! I'd be curious to know what you think about Guidance!
could you review 'The Maker' fragrances?
Have you tried Santal Austral by Matiere Premiere? It's so good and I'm not even a huge fan of sandalwood!
I'm so happy to see you talk about your favorite note in fragrances...You know - I was late to the Gris Charnel train because every fragrance I had tried with the note of fig just didn't sit well with me...and tbh I appreciate sandalwood as a base note but I am not crazy about perfumes centered completely around it - that's just me...BUT, I was finally like: "Ugh, FINE! - Let me try it and see what all the dang fuss is about!" And yep! I get what all the fuss is about! What an amazing composition! I feel like it is a masterpiece! So, totally changed my heart on some things. I did want to send a recommendation your way - If you haven't already smelt it: Selperniku by January Scent Project (MY favorite sandalwood fragrance) Now, I am a gourmand freak and also a lover of some pretty Avant Garde fragrances - This smells like eating saltine crackers with butter and apricot jam off of a slab of sandalwood! That's the smell...The dry down is TOTALLY sandalwoody...And it is nuclear! I feel it projects pretty well and lasts for 12 days...LOL! I love it! But, I would LOVE to hear your thoughts Anne...lol! xoxo
I'm so glad you enjoy Gris Charnel! I think Selperniku may not be for me because I don't enjoy butter or "bready" notes, but I appreciate the recommendation!! 🤍
What do you think about This is her by Zadig & Voltaire and Nomade by Chloé ?
Chloe Nomad is nice. Citrusy, fresh, sparkling, with a touch of peach. After about 30 min, it transitions into that classic perfume DNA, I personally find the Absolu version much more special!
This is Her is a nice, simple, soft woody, powdery vanilla, musky scent. It's sweet, airy, lactonic from the whipped cream, the wood is very creamy as well and almost comes off like a molecular fragrance note such as iso e super. I don’t personally get the chestnut. I like something a tad more complex and I'm not a fan of the lactonic vibe, which is why it wasn't for me, but I do think it's good.
Is it better vanila sandal zadig voltaire or santal 33 for woman, not too sweet not to musculate
Have you ever tried Ten Fifteen from Room 1015? I love that one 🖤
I have! I was this 🤏🏼 close to getting a bottle, but there is a bit of a lactonic creaminess, and 5 hours into the dry down, it smells very similar to Z&V This is Her to me. Great fragrance!! Love love the opening and mid, I'm just sensitive to a lactonic vibe sometimes 😁
@@AnneLauren I'm shooocked, I have never smelled This is Her and it was actually on my wish list (Blanche bete as well) but then I saw one of your videos talking about that lactonic note being weird and I was like hell no, never even ordered a sample lol. Now I guess I could give those a try... I am new to fragrances and my nose is not that well trained :)
I really enjoy your content BTW you're partially the reason I blind bought Gris Charnel and it is my absolute favorite!
@@unclegreta1313 oh yeah I think they’re definitely worth sampling! And thank you so much!
Love your choices, and I own most of them, but...have you tried Santal Austra by Matiere Premiere? It's truly amazing. Going out on a limb, but I think it's a safe blind buy (don't come for me.)
Thank you! I have! I unfortunately don't get what everyone else seems to be getting from that fragrance. 😩 To my nose, it's sharp, and has this fizzy, piercing quality to it. It also smells sour when I put my nose up to my skin. I don’t experience creamy amazing sandalwood like others. Such a bummer 😩😩 but I'm glad it was a hit for you!
Has anyone tried the Gris Charnel dupe by Julianna’s Perfume?
