Hollow Knight is one of those games I wish I could forget and play all over again for the first time.
SIlksong might revive that feeling
@@megabyte_101 Assuming that game ever comes out. I’m actually starting to have some doubts. Not huge but some…
@@leeartlee915 the game has got to be deep in development, we waited long enough but we need to wait a little more.. Hopefully little..
@@megabyte_101 Yeah, it’s probably hanging out with Metroid Prime 4, having a laugh.
But seriously, if they continue to say nothing for much longer, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to start worrying.
RIP Akira Toriyama; great to see new Dragon Quest hype around!
I have so little time, but so many games on my backlog.
The struggle is real bro same here 😭
Me too
Im a grad student so its hard to keep up 😢
I recently started a list of my backlog and crossing them off as I beat them. Got Little Nightmares, Alan Wake Remastered, Code Vein, Super Mario Galaxy, and Xenoblade Chronicles off so far. I have a ways to go but I see how I can do it now!
With pen and paper or like an excel document? @@Shynotic
Everyone should play "A Short Hike"! Super casual, exploring a small island loaded with things to find over a few hours.
Although it's a small game, it's one of my favourite switch games to go when i just wanna relax and float across the island. One of my best buys on the Switch 👍
Really a wonderful experience especially after playing some long open world games like totk. It was so refreshing to be able to finish the whole thing in one afternoon
Felix, you are looking more and more like Mario
I get more of a luigi vibe from him
Alex is Mario, Felix is Luigi and Zion is toad

Witcher 3, I picked up and put down four or five times at this point. Every single time I go through the tutorial, fight those first few monsters, get on the horse, get to that town and go into that bar with the card game, and this is the exact point where I lose any steam every single time. When I decide to pick it up again I boot it up, realize I don’t remember any controls or mechanics, have no idea what to do and start anew. And the cycle continues… Maybe one of these days I will end up loving it, but by this point I seriously doubt it. It’s also exactly the same with Skyrim for me, too.
Exactly the same for me bro
I did the same thing in 2018ish, decided to play it last year and got started on the first quest and was honestly hooked. The combat sucks, but it reminded me of experiencing Skyrim for the first time.
I tried it back in 2018. I was only captivated by the nameless baby story, and I think more for the philosophical implications than the gaming experience. But maybe it’s worth another shot.
That is my story with Monster Hunter
@@NueThunderKing oh, same for me! I tried multiple games over the years including Rise, which people say is very new player friendly, but could never understand what is the point of those games. Like, I don’t even see what is supposed to be fun about them. Then again, most people seem to be playing online with friends, which has never been an option for me.
That comment Felix on Xenoblade.
"You need to see it to the end..."
The time has come Felix... time for you to start FC, and if you have a way to play X, 2, Torna, 3, FR.
See it through Felix... to the end.
Yes… YEEEEESSSS
I found the story of Xenoblade very engaging but I burned out halfway through because the combat system was so not interesting
@@pilgrimspromise1132 I just beat it yesterday. I got to Ch15 or so (~50hrs) and decided I was done with the game so I put on casual and finished it. I liked the combat, especially as I learned more later. The areas and enemies started getting boring at the end though. Story is really good.
This is how I felt with Octopath Traveler 2, only that I took nearly a year to even play it.
I thought Octopath Traveler 1 was just ok, and didn't really feel like a sequel would impress me much (especially not at $60). I waited until the Holiday Steam sale, then finally bought it in January. It was so much better than I ever imagined, making me actually feel guilty I bought it at half price!
Aside from that, I've tried playing The Witcher 3 about 4 times, but never played more than 2 hours. Somehow I can push through 3-4 hours of Persona games doing nothing but dialog & cutscenes, but I can't push through 2 hours of The Witcher? I can't explain it! 😅
I've tried to play Witcher 3 at least twice and couldn't get into it. I think it's the combat controls for me but I'm still dying to play it. I'm just gonna have to suck it up eventually I think. I couldn't get into Octopath 1 but after playing OT2 I went back to 1 and loved it.
After I finished Metroid Dread, I started looking for other metroidvania games available on switch. I compared that list to games that were currently on sale and the common thread was the game "Guacamelee." It looked cartoony and goofy - not at all matching the aesthetic I was hoping for, but it was highly reviewed. I started playing it a few times, never getting that far into it. Then one day, I played for a little longer than before and was oh, so pleasantly surprised. It was the only game I played for a while. The platforming puzzles were very challenging, parts of the combat were very complex and hard, and the game mechanics were very unique. I also really appreciated all of the subtle (and not so subtle) nods to other games hidden throughout. I just got Guacamelee 2 and have been really really enjoying it as well.
Im currently playing TouHou Luna Nights. It's an excellent game in the symphony of the night style with a great time stop mechanic. It's made by some true talents. Got my copy imported. Play Asia.
The maker of Guacamelee also made a topdown like game called Nobody Saves The World.
I think it's their best game yet and Guaca coming very close, maybe you like it.
I tried so hard to get into Monster Hunter in general. I bought games on the 3DS and even Rise on Switch, but it never clicked. This past January, I made the commitment to really give Rise my attention. Two hundred and twenty hours later, I am still going through Sunbreak, have gotten a couple of people (including family) hooked and I am now telling everyone to give it a try.
Gosh, I'd really like to get into Monster Hunter but the tutorial and UI are aweful! It's like they expect you to know a bunch of stuff from playing previous entries. And in the short period I played, I couldn't get used to the controls and movement. I will eventually give it another try though
@patricioart4301 the training area was a BIG help to learn some basic combos in Rise. You can also look at your hunters notes for more combos for a specific weapon. Spend time trying every weapon until one seems interesting, then spend 10 minutes getting down timing. Do some HR 1 quests to hunt basic stuff until you have a good feel, then try going through the village quests.
It sounds like a lot, but in about 2 hours of gameplay, it will save you a big headache. If you have someone who plays that is willing to watch you and help when necessary, that is the beat teaching tool. If you have 3 other friends willing to give it a go, it is the most fun you can have in Monster Hunter and you really become a team.
I wouldn't regret not loving a game sooner, personally. Many of the titles I came to adore over the years took bouncing off of a few times before I found them at the right time to appreciate what they brought to the table. Hell, that's part of why my backlog is so tremendous. There are myriad games that I recognize the brilliance of and that I can see how I'm going to enjoy them. I'm just waiting for the mood to hit to appreciate them properly.
The biggest seller for dragon quest xi is its demo. If you do everything in the demo it will take you around 10-20 hours, genuinely. You get up to 4 party members, can level up to level 20 iirc, and you get a big meaty chunk of the story and dungeons. Then if you decide to buy it, borrow it, rent it or whatever all your data carries over. Its incredible.
My friend LOVES the Witcher. So she made me try it. 5min in and i see this scarred up, naked guy in a tub, off to a bad start. I didn’t really like geralt and only played a few hours. Yearss later, i just randomly gave it another chance. I played it to the end. Its by no means my favorite game, but wow was it good. Once you get going, the combat, creatures, world, characters, its all veryy good. I was a fool, but even a fool can learn from his mistakes, i recommend it to anyone looking for a good single player experience
And what happened to the friend?
For me, it was Metroid Dread. I played the demo, and couldn't really get into it. Then I got Metroid Prime Remastered on the switch and everything about the franchise clicked. My friend then lent me Dread, and I ended up absolutely loving it. It's now in my top 5 games of all time.
Give Samus returns a go on 3DS. You'll probably even enjoy Fusion and Zero Mission.
This, but the other way round. Loved Dread but can't get myself into Prime Remastered :(
@mooNylou same! Playing Prime rn, quite like it now, but bit rough when i started. Not as logical about where to go next as Dread
For me, the game was Nier: Automata. I played a few hours of it, but it didn't really click with me. During the pandemic, I had some time, and I decided to go all in on the game. Oh my. I remember sitting there, watching the credits after getting ending E, hold the controller, wiping away tears, and thinking, "I'm not the same person now that I've played this." I will never look at life and living the same because of Nier: Automata, and I hold it as one of, if not the greatest video game I have ever played.
Exactly this. When I got the first ending I thought 'ok thats kind quick might as well get the other endings' but I hit a wall where I questioned if it's really worth all five 'true' endings. Then I got ending E. No spoilers but I was literally staring, smiling, shaking my head at the TV as the credits were rolling. I consumed all the Nier and Drakengard lore UA-cam videos a full week or so after that. Absolutely one of the greatest games ever made.
I agree with XC. I had to stop trying to do all the side quests and focus on the main story.
In BOTW, I got stuck on the first Lynel on the way to the water area. I put the game down for at least a year. I had my little sister clear it for me, finished the game and realized I almost missed out on one of the best games of all time.
It took me three tries to _really_ get absorbed into Chrono Trigger. I thought it was another one of those "SNES classics that are fine, but overblown by fans due to nostalgia" that I'd played before.
But _dang_ ...what a special game. I'm not even a huge JRPG fan and I sunk _ages_ into Chrono Trigger. The world, the characters, the combat system, the twists, the sidequests, the _music_ ...yeah, I'm extremely happy that I stuck it out. What a downright magical experience.
The Yakuza games.. I was 20 when the first one released but I didn't get into the games until 2022.. It's now my favorite franchise
For me, it's Stardew Valley. It was my first farming sim and I just didn't get how repeating the same simple tasks could be rewarding in the long run. But I told myself "I'm going to play this at least for 10 hours to figure out the hype", and those turned out to be 40 hours total, not a huge amount, but in the end I loved it so much!
Nice!
Great video Felix! The energy in this one just felt so genuine and lovely. Keep up the good work!
Days gone felt this way for me. Super fun game after you get into it. Probably like 2 hours or 3 and then I was like ahhh yeah this is gonna be a fun ride
Recently it was The Outer Worlds for me. I started the tutorial section about three times before I pushed through and played the entire game. I ended up really enjoying it.
I bounced off RDR2 pretty hard when it first came out.
I liked it a lot more a few years later.
Dude I remember a few months after release, a friend said "I played it but quit, it was soooo slow" But he never made it off the mountain 😂😭. I finally forced his hand and of course it's a monumental experience.
I love that game so much. My wife laughed at me cause everytime she saw me playing it i was hunting or fishing, so she was like why didnt you just buy a hunting simulator instead. If arthur was in one i would
The outer wilds is such an amazing experience.
All of it, from the music to the story, to the relationships between characters, gameplay loop and puzzles.
It’s a game you won’t be able to understand or appreciate until you’ve played it.
So so good 🙏🏼
For me it was Metroid Prime. It was MY FIRST VIDEO GAME, and trying to manage the controls for being your first gaming experience was so janky. I got back into it two or three years later and I loved it!
Metal gear solid was a game I struggled with as a kid because I AM AN IDIOT and didn’t realize Meryl’s codex number was on the back of the game case the whole time 😂
Good video. I absolutely love DQ XI from the start. One that I had to try multiple times goes way back to XB360 - Blue Dragon. Once I did get into it though, I loved it.
I also couldn't get into Hollow Knight, I might try it again
Me too! I REALLY struggled with the difficulty and I got to a point where I had to fit either one of two bosses and I just couldn’t beat them to progress and I had picked up all available upgrades. But then a year later I booted it back up started from scratch and beat 1 of those bosses and an optional one for a handy powerful and one of the dreamers. It felt so good!
Hollow Knight is probably the most glaring example for me too…because it then went on to become my absolute favorite game of all time 😂.
sometimes some games even movies doesn’t click with me , it could be the mood i’m in or idk but giving them another chance later on could be months later and it all clicks and i end up liking said game or movie. i was like that with Hollow Knight.
Winnipeg Jets hat? 🎉
True north!!!
Funny, i have had similar experiences with Hollow Knight, Witcher 3, and Outer Wilds. Perhaps its time for me to revisit them, as ive recently gotten really into single player games again and they really do seem like games that i would generally be interested in. Here’s to hoping i have an experience similar to yours!
DQ XI was one I instantly fell in love with. I would say that Witcher 3 is one of those games for me too. I beat the Baron quest but the whole time I wasn't enjoying myself because I kept expecting a jumpscare. The game was almost too atmospheric... also the large amount of side stuff was overwhelming even though I usually like games like that.
Xenoblade 2 is probably on that list for me... I started it a couple times and I WANT to love the Xenoblade games but so far I haven't done more than the first part. Breath of the Wild is also on that list of games I've started but never got too far into but I want to love it the way other people seem to.
I suppose one game that it took me awhile to really appreciate was the original Suikoden. I rented it and did not care for it but then I bought it as part of a buy 2 get one sale and that time I really did fall in love with it.
A game that took me a couple of tries to get into but once I got it I realised what a masterpiece it was was Transistor! The first time I think I hadn't quite understood how the update system worked, and the fights were just getting too long and hard. The second time I really paid attention at the start, and suddenly the systems started making sense, and I finally could focus on the story that was fantastic. And about half way through I realised how great that game was and how much fun I was having. I ended up finishing the game in only a few sessions, I couldn't put it down!
I can relate to your experience with Xenoblade. I missed the original game on the Wii and didn’t try it until it was released for virtual console on the Wii U. The game didn’t click with me, particularly the combat. I didn’t love the auto-attack mechanics. When Definitive Edition released I gave the game a second chance and it finally clicked for me. Talent Arts made the combat deeper than I had realized, and it still has the most unique setting and world I’ve ever explored in a video game.
I’m in the same boat about Xenoblade. Bought the collectors for launch. Played up to chapter 3 then dropped it. Wasn’t a huge fan of the combat system especially the auto battle. Then last year I decided to try the game again from the beginning and loved it. It’s what got me to buy 2, Torna, 3 and FR and literally all I played for the next 7 months. In August I finished FR and I’m planning on doing a NG+ in all the games to fully 100% them
Great list! Definitely had a similar Xenoblade Chronicles experience (without the resuming and loving it) on 3DS. Maybe I should pick up XCDE and try again...
For me, I'd say the game that resonates with this message the most is CrossCode. My god is it charming as hell. Great writing, amazing music, quirky characters, quirkier sidequests, and some excellent lore mystery to boot. But I must have played its demo (which is the opening sequence) at least 3 times before I finally went all in. And each of those 3 times was separated by at least 6 months!
I regret not loving CrossCode sooner, and I am beyond hyped for Radical Fish's next game (in development!).
I had a similar first experience with Hollow Knight, and it's definitely due for another try. On the other hand, I found Shovel Knight to be a pure delight from start to finish. It pushed every nostalgia button I have from my childhood (which was a bit longer ago than yours was, I'm afraid).
Metroid Dread, I wasn't quite enjoy first until I managed to beat its first boss. It's so fascinating and turned our my favourite game!!
Same!
Kind of surreal that your first two games mirrored my own experiences with them exactly. I guess I need to give Outer Wilds a third shot.
It took me several consoles, but The Witcher 3 sucked me into it on the Switch finally. I really do regret not having beaten it earlier. One of my favorite games ever!
In my case, more recently, it's The Alliance Alive. I don't really remember any discourse around it, but I purchased it on switch years ago and only now have really been enjoying it since The Legend of Legacy (which I love) is releasing on switch soon and I wanted to play it through at least once, even though at least two playthrough are required to really "beat" it.
The biggest one for me was Final Fantasy X. It was my first RPG, and I had rented it just to see if I’d like it. I wasn’t used to a lot of cutscenes, which put me off. Also, because I didn’t know RPGs, I just rushed through it until the desert. There I just kept dying because I hadn’t done anything about the sphere grid and other important things. I hated it, and it wasn’t until several years later I tried again. Now it’s my #1 favorite game ever.
Precisely Hollow Knight is one of these games, i love metroidvanias but i tried for 4 hours and got stuck at some place but i was quite bored with the game and found it overhyped, then 15 days latter i tried again and fell in love with it and couldn't let it go , i kept sleeping 4 hours daily because of this game and well now is in my top 10 games of all time.
The first steam will dig was like that for me. I just didn't understand the digging mechanics and I just felt like all I did was doing was digging the whole game. I kept hearing about how good it was so I picked it up at a later date and then it just clicked.
Breath of the Wild took me a couple of tried to really click. Tears might be the same, but not sure if I will ever know, not a fan of the game. And I know I am probably solo with that stance.
You're not alone. Only difference is, BotW didn't click with me the first time and it's not getting anymore chances. It's severely overrated. Tears can kick rocks, no chance I'm giving it a look.
Hollow Knight is and most likely will always be my favorite game of all time. I want to give you and everyone who is reading this comment, pls try out Crosscode, this game is still way way underrated, truly a special gem, it became my third favorite game ever and I wish more ppl would experience and talk about it.💙🥰
Witcher 3... Geralt my beloved
Hollow Knight doesn't really lend itself to short plays, so I've never played it handheld. Its a game I found you really need to get deep into. After 35 years of gaming (I started when I was 4) Hollow Knight has actually topped my favourite games of all time. It overtook A Link to the Past, which for 30 years has not been beat and its a game I replay every year. But Hollow Knight, its an amazing game of systems, and world building, challenges, and great ideas, and good DLC.
But the funny thing is, I also found the beginning of the game a little lacking... It comes off more like a Limbo clone on first visual impressions but the world and challenge increases quickly once you get to the first boss and go beyond this. I have completed it 3 times now and own it on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X and Steam. And the Devs deserve every penny i spent on it.
Dragon Quest 11 at first I couldn’t get into but I think I was just more in the mood to play a different style game at the time. I think it was nearly 2 years after launch when I finally gave it another chance and I loved the game. I even got the platinum trophy in that game.
The Witcher 3 I fell in love with that game immediately and couldn’t stop playing at all till I finished.
Another game though I couldn’t get into at first was Dragon Age Inquisition. Played the game for an hour, literally fell asleep in my chair for a couple hours, played the game for a few mins more then I put it down. I eventually picked it up again and completed the game, and even done a second play through later on, but I much prefer the first Dragon Age game with its expansion over this one.
So glad HK clicked with you, I fell for this game straight away…it’s probably one of my fave games of all time!
You are so right, sometimes you get a game on PC or Xbox and it doesn’t click.. and then the portability of the Nintendo Switch is a game changer. I loved the Ori games so much more on Switch!
I couldn't put BOTW down when I first started playing it on Valentine's Day, and I'm also shocked that Akira Toriyama is gone when I heard about his passing last Friday. He's a legend in manga and video games, and I can't thank him enough for his effort making his characters come to life!
Took me 3 tries to get into the original ff7.
20 odd years later it's one of my favourite games ever, and the one to get me into hundreds of rpgs since
I have only just barely got past the tutorial of Witcher 3, I really like what I’ve played, but the game just feels so overwhelming to me
But one day I’ll play it…
Outer Wilds and Dragon Quest 11 are both on my list even though I've been on the fence with them for a while. Outer Wilds seems like it will be challenging to get into, but it also looks sort of like a modern take on Riven (Myst 2) which is one of my favorite games. And I love simple RPGs so I think I want to try DQ, but I'm also intimidated by how long those games are.
Felix's Switch Collection is grown nearly as fas as his mustache.
Looks good. Keep rocking it.
WAHOO!!
I had to play the Metroid Dread demo twice before deciding if I liked it enough to buy it. Now I’ve played half the game in two days
For me it was Ghost of Tsushima. I was hype for it on the PS4 but one feature was missing that severely hindered the combat and overall gameplay for me.. there was no lock-on feature and it ran at 30 fps so it was hard to keep up with enemies.
Coming back to the ps5 game 2 years later was like a dream, they added 60 fps and a lock-on feature and I 100% the base game and am almost done with the dlc. The first go around I didnt even get a third of the way thru.
If you have a ps5 give it a shot
i'm glad that game is finally getting ported to PC. I've wanted to play it since it was first announced
Felix's first mustache was not on my 2024 NintendoLife Bingo Card.
The way I've gotten past this hurdle with some games, is I take every game in my library and use a random # generator to pick one, then I force myself to stick with it the whole time I'm at my job (there is a lot of downtime at our hotel). If I still am not invested after a couple of shifts, it was never going to be my game and I'll watch the rest on youtube. The others, well I've gotten a few new favs this year like Demon Turf and American Fugitive, currently I'm immersed in Ni No Kuni (even though I can't stand most jrpgs), and looking forward to whatever comes next!
That game for me was Sonic Mania. I bought it… played it to the halfway mark… put it away… then when I picked it back up, I finished it within days. Then I bought the Sonic Origins collection and played through that quickly. Great games!
Exactly my experience with the Witcher , hated it to love it more than anything. The quarantine was the best time to invest into this series for me
The 2 games that come to mind for me like this are Arkham City - when the combat clicked - and BO3 - took me 4 separate tries, but i finally clicked with the jet packs
Man, I really need to get back into Dragon Quest XI this year. I initially played in 2020 but I honestly got overwhelmed balancing my job and grad school in the middle of a pandemic that I needed to switch to a shorter game. As for what games didn't initially click for me, definitely Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Was a bit weirded out by the concept but after the first world, I was completely invested.
This video has come just after I bought Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. I’m really looking forward to playing it once I’ve finished Promenade (which I highly recommend).
Dragon quests music just gives me warm fuzzy feelings, and im not nostalgic for these games. The first time playing a DQ game was 11 about a year ago. I've played DQ 8 since then, and im convinced it just a wonderful series, and I want to play them all now.
I am a simple man. I see or hear Felix. I instantly like
Dragon Quest 11 is my favorite game of all time. Love it to pieces
Red Dead Redemption 2: I just started playing on 9/24/23 and got instantly hooked. I played rdr2, and only rdr2 for mouths. Best story in a game ever hands down.
Hollow knight clicked for me when i downloaded it on my macbook. This is not meant in a bad way but it feels bad sitting down behind my ps5(4 at the time) or switch and not playing like a real good game so to say?
Hollow knight is fenominal in its own way and i LOVED the combat in it so much, the way it flowed etc but. It felt like a game i needed on my 3ds back in the day or even my phone. When i started playing it on my macbook at my gf's place tho or at my work on a break. Thats when i got addicted.
I started playing it even before bed not even booting my other 20 consoles or smth. I loved every second of it.
I know this is a Nintendo channel but for me it was Red Dead 2. I recently played and beat this game for the first time. 6 years after it's original release.
What a f🤬king game it was. Probably my all time favorite
I had a similar experience with the Witcher 3 where I got into it every now and again (thankfully remembered enough to never restart). Definitely an all time favourite! One game that took me a second try was Warframe, tried it out on PS4 when it was fresh, didn’t get into it and then tried it again on PC and it clicked. It does take a little bit to get into but definitely an improved experience nowadays. Trying POE but haven’t gotten into it.
3:33 haha i actually did the exact same when i saw it for around 5 bucks and thought now or never
It took around 2 years for me to finally play Breath of the Wild. I'd started that game probably 3 or 4 times, never reaching beyond the great plateau. My only prior Zelda game was A Link to the Past, which I'd played for only a dozen or so hours. I spent a lot of time wondering why people held BotW on such a high pedastal until I finally pushed through it, and low and behold I now have put hundreds of hours into it!
I get what you are saying about the Witcher 3 but it is just because the White Orchard section is a gigantic into to the real game. It is similar with Breath of the Wild for example. It is huge and it takes hours to finish but it is just because there are so many mechanics to learn. Xenoblade 3 also incorporated the whole game section to learn mechanics and it took around 10 hours to pass that one.
Off the top of my head it took me a bit to get into New Pokemon Snap, had almost convinced myself the fun was all nostalgia, and then one day I just started having a blast with it.
For me it was back in the GameCube era. I hired both Windwaker and Metroid Prime three times before I got them. Now both are two of my favourite games. I never got Eternal Darkness
I had this experience with *Skyward Sword* on the Wii. I hated the control scheme at the time and put it away. About 5 years later, I decided to try it again and push through my initial aversion to the control scheme. I started to absolutely LOVE this game. So much so, that I actually prefer playing the Switch version with motion controls. LOL.
You rock the mustache extremely well. 👍🏼
So funny enough, and blasphemous as this may sound. I initially had a hard time getting into ToTK. That alone is a crazy statement because Zelda to this day is still my favorite franchise! I loved the opening and a lot of the sky island tutorial, but after I landed in Hyrule I just kept dying over and over and over. I then decided on a whim to just progress the story and it started getting better, got the hang glider, did the first dungeon w Tulin and then found the depths for the first time and was both shocked and a bit terrified of what that whole area was. How Nintendo kept that a secret till launch is frankly amazing! 😂 But yeah those first like 10 hours I was not feeling it at first. Glad I kept moving forward with it though. As for Witcher I just got it a couple of months ago and I absolutely love it. 118 hours in so far. 👍😊
I a bought ToTK on release and put it down after about 10 hours myself. It’s so hard!! I’ve been thinking about it lately though, I absolutely LOVED BOTW
@@ColaradoSunriseXxXx you just gotta get the paraglider and then it gets a lot easier and more fun to play. And after the main story opens up it gets a lot easier and better too.
This was me and elden ring. Picked it back up this last month enjoying it a lot more. Also I have some of these games on my list too😆. I HAVE to finish each xenoblade. I really want to do it, they are just very long games. But before I do that, i want to finish sea of stars. Im most of the way through it but i just keep putting it down.
Hollow Knight is definitely one of this list. It’s a hard, but beautiful game. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to drive into this, when i see another areas, but can’t access them yet. Witcher 3 is amazing and I instantly falled in love with the story, Geralt and the huge open world.
I also put down both Witcher 3 and Hollow Knight after trying to enjoy them, so It's interesting to hear you had a similar initial impression. That was especially true w.r.t. Witcher 3, I could not STAND the combat. It does make me wonder if I should go back at some point, but there just isn't time. These days I tend to view games that aren't clicking with me as somewhat of a win, since it means I can move on to one of the other massive games that require my attention :P (either new or in the endless backlog)
Also it's interesting you mention the animations of Xenoblade Chronicles DE. I played the original, on Wii, and instantly fell in love with it, but when I picked up the DE re-release I started playing for a bit and then fell off of it. Don't get me wrong, I still consider it one of my favourite games of all time, but something definitely felt off compared to my original playthrough and now I wonder if was the clunkiness of the updated graphics!
What is so bad about the combat in the Witcher? I don’t get it
@@ishkapiska4516It's possibly just me who didn't get it, ultimately, but I found the moveset and attack timings were a challenge to get working reliably and the magic had a fairly minimal impact. It felt clunky and unsatisfying, but maybe I was missing something obvious? I did enjoy preparing for the fights by crafting things like poison coatings for my sword, etc. that I learnt about from the monster compendium, I just wanted that strategic planning to have a big impact on the actual fights and it rarely seemed to because I found attacking so finicky. I gave it a good 10 hours before throwing in the flag, but it's such a huge game it's certainly possible more mechanics open up later that would have improved things.
@@dufflebagg i think to see if the preparation has a bigger impact on combat you gotta up the difficulty. I noticed that I used potions and oils far more often on hard difficulty then on easy/normal. Also you can upgrade the magic to make it have a bigger impact or do different things and that can really make a difference depending on who you fight.
I too have attempted Witcher 3 and shovel knight multiple times and just can’t get into them. I think I’ve discovered I don’t like open world games. I’ve tried Zelda BoTW, Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur, and Witcher 3 so many times. Never finished Elden ring either.
Totally agree that the 3ds is the best platform for shovel knight.
Whrn the witcher 3 came to switch I was blown away. Yes its not as good as it is on more powerful hardware but the fact the Switch can still play such a massive game is impressive.
For me it would have to be Stardew Valley. Played it over and over and I just didn't get it. I realised I wasn't playing it for long enough. Eventually after my fifth try, I put in a solid 5-6 hours and it clicked. It's now one of my all-time favourite and most played games.
I still can't seem to enjoy Witcher 3 though... Maybe one day
Felix is looking like a classic Gomez Adam’s.
It’s a strong look.
I’ve tried to play through Hollow Knight twice and I never finished it but I loved what I played. I’m hoping to do a full playthrough this year.
I love so much about DQ11, but there was a point where the music finally drove me mad. Such a beautiful game tarnished by such a careless soundtrack.
For me, Persona 5.
Over the past 4 years, I've tried to get into it 2 or 3 times.
Picked it up again a week ago, and this is the time that it's clicked. I haven't put it down all week, and I'm now 2 main dungeons down and going strong.
I'm still trying with witcher 3. Got as far as skellige on my 3rd try, but I'm just bored with chasing ciri, you know?
"She's headed to this place,"
Go to this place;
"She's not here. She went to this place,"
Urgh...
For me it's FFXV. I completely wrote that game off at first because I hated the concept, didn't like the world design and thought the characters were totally lame, but then a couple years ago it was on sale for almost nothing on Steam so I said fuck it let's check out this dumpster fire aaaaand, I still didn't like it at first. But I fought through it for a few more hours and set it down a couple times and finally a couple chapters in the game won me over and I found the story and characters to be some of the best in the entire series and the music is probably the best the series has ever done, so now it has skyrocketed up my list of favorite FF games.
R.I.P. Akira Toriyama. You were a true legend.
This was basically me with Final Fantasy, I’d played like 5 FF games before I played 9 and loved it
Risk of Rain 2 was my own personal hidden gem. I was actually getting ready to submit a request for a refund but during my playtime I managed to unlock a new character & then another & then another. Pretty soon I was putting 100s of hours into this game
Same! HK was one I just finally got back to. Did not click for a long time and I was confused by the hype!
I love being late to the party on a game. I feel like the dust has settled, the marketing hype is gone, and there's just the game and its legacy left to judge its worth. Also waiting a year or two usually makes the game cost half or a third as much
Final fantasy 7 remake and persona 5. Played the original versions but didn’t really enjoy a ton until the enhanced versions came out and I gave it another go. It wasn’t even the things they changed, but in general the mechanics and world clicked to me so much more the second time around
My biggest turn arounds were Elden ring (I hate souls games) and persona 5 royal (I got stressed about time management)
Both games were miserable blind, but fantastic with guide.
Completely agree with the Witcher. I couldnt get on with it, when i forced myself and got past the barron and into the first city it clicked.
