Ok, so I’m having a hard time finding any connection between the Goodfellow’s (or Matschie’s) tree-kangaroo, the impala, the secretarybird, and the short-beaked echidna other than they VERY tenuous and hypothetical “Woodlands Animal Pack” but as you pointed out, the impala and secretarybird are more savanna and grasslands animals. MY HOT TAKE: as a nod to the “original, in-game founders”, you can call it “The Goodwin’s Animal Pack” featuring Bernie’s favorite animals that feature all four of these dictionary species. They can also throw in other community wanted species like a New World monkey, a highly requested exhibit animal, one (or two more) habitat birds like the greater rhea, a pelican, a stork, or another type of gamebird (like a guineafowl) or waterfowl (like a wild duck or goose species), or a really off-the-wall pick would be the Kori bustard. The shoebill is a TENUOUS open-air species, with the San Diego Safari Park once having a pair (pinioned obviously) near the tram station over a decade ago. Now they are found in their own huge flights (NOT WALKTHROUGH) in the United States at Zoo Tampa (where I saw them) and the Dallas World Aquarium. For the love of God, SHELVE THE IBISES AND SPOONBILLS. 9 times out of 10, these birds are featured in WALKTHROUGH AVIARIES. The only place I have seen ibises in open air habitats are wild white ibises in any zoo in Florida and pinioned African sacred ibises at the San Diego Safari Park with pinioned demoiselle cranes and common shelducks. I know the Saint Augustine Alligator Farm and Zoo have wild ibises and roseate spoonbills nest on their grounds. I will venture a guess that the native Australian ibis species also nest and wander zoo grounds. The eagle mention would be a nice sneak peak to the much demanded and hypothetical “Aviary Pack”. It would be extremely foolish to have eagles as an open-air exhibit animal that’s unable to fly (though I have seen open-air bald eagle exhibits at both the San Francisco Zoo and Zoo Tampa, but in those instances, the eagles had wings that were permanently damaged and left them unable to fly). When most people see eagles, they want to see them fly in a large flight cage. Same with any vulture (although, stupidly enough, the San Diego Safari Park keep their vultures pinioned in open-air habitats). Anyways, my hope is for a Latin America Animal Pack. We NEED more monkeys, the greater rhea, and other highly requested Latin American animals. Getting the impala, secretarybird, and short-beaked echidna, for me, are much welcomed additions I will more than happily include in my zoo.
Bro wrote an ESSAY You might be onto something with the Goodwins Animal Pack, I like that idea. It would be a way to split a bunch of highly requested species between 2 DLCs and then label them as "our" favorites, and "their" favorites. The only thing is, if this next pack is the one with all these species toward the top of the wishlist (secretary bird, tree kangaroo), it would've made more sense to swap the names. Still, maybe if we get a Goodwins Pack we could get the human statues I suggested back when I proposed a Primate Pack. HOP OFF the ibis and spoonbill!! Yes they're not kept in open-air habitats, but I wouldn’t be building open-air for them anyway! 😂 I've always had the mindset they don't care too much about if a species can fly after the red crowned crane, but you have a point, cranes (like flamingos and swans) are often kept in open air habitats. But I don't know, I think we could still see an ibis or spoonbill even if it stretches that realism just a bit, which Planet Zoo likes to do. Kind of like how we got the king penguin as a habitat animal even though realistically they're always housed indoors, I think that's a great comparison. The people who care about handling these birds realistically will just build realistically for them. Also - I've seen African spoonbills housed open-air with greater flamingos at Detroit! Anyway I'm pinning this cus we spent so much time writing these comments LMAO
@@shaununiverse I certainly wouldn’t mind getting the roseate spoonbill and the scarlet ibis in a hypothetical Aviary Pack. They are iconic and popular species for walkthrough aviaries. At Fresno Chaffee Zoo, they have both species with blue and gold macaws among other species. My hope is for Planet Zoo 2, they have a setting for large birds like waterfowl, cranes, flamingos, pelicans, storks, and even the secretarybird, seriemas, and ground hornbills that they can either keep the wings clipped, pinioned, or grown in, giving a realistic option of how the birds interact with the guest. When clipped or pinioned, they won’t “threaten” the guest in an open-air exhibit. Careless players that leave a large bird unclipped in an open-air habitat will have guested be “visited” by them or they fly all over the map. Only unclipped birds can be housed in a walkthrough aviary or a stand alone flight that guests can’t get into (these would be for the raptors and the mischievous species).
Just throwing the animals out there that I'd personally still like to see: -Long-Beaked Echidna (I would personally pick the long-beaked echidna over the short-beaked because body-wise it's larger on the whole and has a more prominent beak, thus making it a better animal for viewing) -Secretary Bird (not only a personal and fan favorite, but also a huge homage to Zoo Tycoon 2 in my opinion) -Ocelot (It's a personal and fan favorite) -Marabou Stork (It's so iconic bc of The Lion King) -Shoebill (probably would have to compete with the Marabou Stork for inclusion unfort) -Walrus (low chance because very aquatic) -Northern Elephant Seal (low chance too because also very aquatic) *barring the ocelot, all of these would be great because they're relatively popular and also very distinct from what's already in the game imo Honorable Mentions (even more biased and most likely won't be included, I'd say): -North Atlantic Puffin -Greater Roadrunner -Hyrax (highly underrepresented animal imo) -Olive Baboon (another callback) -Nile Crocodile (another callback) -Macaw/Eagle/Toucan/Blue-Footed Booby (as exhibit animals if not regular animals)
I suspect the Zookeeper pack was originally going to be 2 packs- a highlands pack and a shrublands pack (Bear, Baboon, Cat and Goat for mountains, Dik-dik, Lemur and Tortoise for shrublands). Then, the anniversary came along, and they mixed them together for a "5th anniversary celebration pack". This would explain the weird pack art, as well as the remaining dictionary animals all fitting these themes(echidna, impala and secretary bird for shrub, and the tree kangaroo for mountains). This is in no way confirmed, but I think it at least makes an interesting theory.
The impala and th eagle and some other words like civet are mentioned in other animals zoopedia entries, atleast I think somebody said that on the forum.
