This is the only show that talk about this. Seriously $600M for a person that will not make your market grow like shohei is ridiculous oh soto is not even in the same category of Aaron Judge
This Soto contract will break the market. Soto is great hitter only. This will allow others to get payed alot of money and alot of players are going to be overpayed.
I get what you mean about "tune in guys", i would say Juan Soto made the Yankees a "tune in team". I was so happy to watch the revitalized Yankees last season and believe it or not, Soto had to do with that.
I think clubs are gonna overpay him. He hasn't won an MVP. He got the batting title in the shortened 2020 season and a lot of others had good batting averages that year. He had most runs in the AL in 2024 thanks to batting ahead of Aaron Judge. Summary: He's a good batter, ok defense. Tell me why he is worth half of Ohtani?
As a Canadian I’m stunned we didn’t take Scheiffele or one of Bouchard/Dobson/Weegar/Dougie instead of Parayko and Sanheim. Tavares might still over more than any of those guys on the 4th line. Real talk, is Hagel even better than RNH, Bo Horvat, or Barzal?
You cant say soto is nothing amazing to watch and then say that paul skenes is amazing to watch. Soto is an on base machine with power contact and walk rate. Literally nobody else in MLB has power contact and walk rate in 2024 (and the ones that come anywhere close suchbas Freddie freeman are still a level or two behind soto)
Global reach? Last I checked baseball was only popular in a few countries Just say Japan is a much larger market than the Dominican Republic thus making Shohei Ohtani more marketable
Shohei is global. Japan alone brought 15 million views in the world series. Ohtani brings Sponsors to your team = more money, soto doesnt. Ohani this season alone broke Messis record for most shirts bought for a team which was the all time record = more money for dodgers. Soto doesnt do not even 2 % of what ohtani does off field and in the field.
@ my point is that when you actually scrutinize the market for these players it’s a handful of countries that determine their marketability and value in regards to endorsements It’s not “global” in the sense the global would entail many more countries involved with baseball and buying those said jerseys and merchandise…it’s a few Asian countries, it’s the Caribbean, and North America that drives the market Baseball isn’t big in the majority of the world so we need to calm down about who is an isn’t a global superstar known throughout the world You might have 5-10 guys across all sports that are actually known globally and I don’t think any baseball players are on that level, unless we’re selectively defining “global” In Africa for example the biggest stars are football players, same with Europe, but we never put that into the equation I don’t even think Shohei is big in India what itself has 1.5 billion people; cricket being the most popular sport over there

Dude literally says 40 HR, hits .285 and is a bad fielder. No dudebthe most important aspect of soto is that he can hit the 40HR while maintaining an above average batting avg. And then he walks more than he strike put wvery year in his career. It is hard to hit 40 HR remain aggressive and still walk more than you strike out. Less than 10 players have done this consistently in the last 20 yeara
R.O.I. is not there. If a team gives him 600 it's because they fell into their own trap. Their thinking has to be, "well because one player got this much now I want this much" and the teams are stupid enough to give it to them. If each team made him an offer of what he is truly worth as a player, he'd still sign. He's not going to turn down Aaron Judge money (who I believe is better) if that's all he was offered. The problem is there's always that one dumbass. I don't know how he gets the money he wants without deferrals either.
You’re not wrong, World Series trophies do matter but in this argument it’s a moot point. It does however matter when the contracts are fully guaranteed. The organization needs to profit off of the player. The Japanese market is second to none besides the US market when it comes to baseball while the DR gets the recognition because of the players it produces, that’s about it globally. So when people are saying Juan Soto should get paid over $600 million it is a much bigger risk because he doesn’t gather the same attention like Ohtani.
It’s a financial reality. 15M watched the World Series in Japan, and their per capita income level is far higher than the DR. The DR has a total population of 11M. If half watch, only 5M. Japan has 123M people.
@@w00deey12a lot actually. Ohtani is the most marketable person right now with the most billboards of his person in Japan. Most definitely. Soto can’t approach a fraction of the revenue stream Shohei can. “He’s a really good hitter.” That’s it.

Do you know how easy it is to falsify a birth certificate in the HIGHLY corrupt DR??@@islander5858
You saying Dominicans be lying about their age? 🤣
One thing for sure, someone will overpay for a career .285 batter with 29 homers. He's also a defensive viability who's probably alot older than 26.

4 years $200 Mil max. Or buy 4 good players/prospects.
I hope my Cubs aren't dumb enough to overpay for him.

If soto gets 600M, Vladdy and Tucker will get their each 500M easily next year.
Im with Dan,, and I’m a dodgers fan. They should resign Teo Hernández 3/65 and go after Willie Adamas 6/150.

Hockey players should get paid more.

I disagree that Soto is not must-see tv. The kids love him and his intensity of approach. They go wild for the shuffle.
