      Yes! Love to hear it, love your ranking too! These games are all so good, I was fairly surprised to see Three Sisters at the bottom of my (Ilya) list but after playing all four consecutively a couple of times that is where it ended up, I wonder what effect time will have in the future, especially with French Quarter as we've played it less than the others,

      Same here in that order 🫶❤️

    Thanks for the video! I'm a big roll and write fan!
    Really intrigued by French Quarter. Would love to try it. I do own the other games and mostly play them solo. My top 3 would be:
    1. Three Sisters: absolutely love the combos, even though it does happen that I forget to do something :p
    2. Fleet: really like the "simplicity" although I sometimes forget my license or building bonuses ;-)
    3. Motor City: for some reason, I find it harder than the other ones because I can never find the right icons on the different tracks :p
    This being said: I love them all ;-)

    My favorites in order:
    1. Three sisters
    2. Fleet
    3. Motor city
    Although by what I’ve seen so far for French Quarter, it might become my second favorite 😆
    Thank you guys for the coverage

    This is like picking your favorite child! I love three sisters. It might be my number one. When you can chain together a long combo, it’s just so satisfying. I totally get the part where you can lose track of things though. I’ve played it more than 40 times and sometimes I still lose track. Three sisters is one of my favorite games of all time. Definitely my favorite roll and write!
    I’ve really enjoyed French quarter. I like the spatial puzzle part - I think because it’s so different from the rest of the series. It seems simpler - easier to on board. But, with some really interesting decisions.
    Motor city is good as well. I need to play it more to appreciate it though I think because it’s hard in a way I’ve never found the others. But I like that part of it too. Plus - it might be the most replayable of all of them if you have the KS extras.
    Fleet is my least favorite. Though I still enjoy it. I think I personally like the drafting mechanisms that have more to them - Fleet is the only one where you’re drafting only the die face and I think it puts it on the bottom for me for that reason.
    Thanks for doing this video!

    So more complexity bumped the games down, even though you love those heavier games. That is interesting. :) I only have Fleet, but I didn't know that the others are from the same designers. Three sisters has been on my radar for a long time, but nobody has a german copy to trade. xD
    Have you ever played Dungeon, Dice and Danger? That is a fun heavy dungeon crawler as a roll&write. My brother has a copy and it comes with four dungeons where you kind of work together to a common goal (defeat all monsters in the dungeon) but one hero will emerge victorious by having the most loot. Fun times.

      We do love complex roll and writes, but it is the overall feel and integration, always interesting to balance that formula. Hope you’re able to try Three Sisters soon!
      We have! Dungeons Dice and Danger is such a fun game! We simply adore it.

    Love all 4 of these but I do agree that Three Sisters is the most complex, and for us it's because it has the least effective way of managing your combos and free actions. There is a lot of mental load in having to keep track of the extra actions that are unlocked during your actions that are not as present in the other three games. However, have loved each of them. Think my favorite is Motor City with FQ close behind.

    • @kovray
      @kovray  Рік тому +1

      Oooo love your perspective! I (Ilya) didn’t even relate complexity to the management of combos and free actions but that is such a good point! Thanks so much for watching!

    How would you rank dinosaur island rawr and write and fliptown among these in terms of complexity and your personal ranking?

    • @kovray
      @kovray  5 місяців тому +2

      We sadly haven’t played Fliptown yet and only played Dinosaur Island Rawr N Write a few times. It’s about medium complexity though, I would say these are a bit more up there in my opinion.

    I own and love Three Sisters… is French Qtr different enough that I should get it? I didn’t get Motor City cuz it felt too close to Fleet and the theme really didn’t appealed to me.

      @@kovray would you still prefer all of the loaded roll and write games mentioned in this video over Hadrian's Wall?
      I'm just curious, because I'd like to try out a more complex roll and write game and I've never played any of these games mentioned in this video or Hadrian's Wall however I've heard so many great reviews regarding them all.

  • @sarahreed-eurogamergirl
    @sarahreed-eurogamergirl Рік тому +1

    Lovely video! Happy to see you both like Matt, Ben & Adam's loaded roll & writes so much! We're fans too.
    Three Sisters is my favorite and it's also in my top 10 games of all time. I actually like the fluid nature of the turns where you gain bonus actions and have flexibility on when to use them. Though you're very right that it can be hard to keep track. Thankfully, Will always helps me so I never miss an action.
    Fleet Dice would be my second favorite of these 4, though it has been replaced in my mind by Three Sisters. There's only one thing I don't like in Fleet Dice that Three Sisters fixes and that's the bad die roll. In Fleet, you can get a die roll that won't help you and one coin is a poor consolation prize. There's never a bad roll in Three Sisters.
    We got to play-test French Quarter and so it'd be my third favorite here. I like a lot of what it does except I'm terrible with maps and moving around to place the numbers. And it's hard for Will to play at all, so it's sadly one we won't be buying. For me, I wish it was on BGA as I'd like to explore it a bit more and see if I can get better at it.
    Unfortunately, Motor City was a big miss for both of us. I found it too constrained and constricting and not fun at all. But that's the way games go. Not everything is a hit for everyone.
